Sattelite A215-S7437 startup failure

Note: My Laptop does not have a battery.
When I plug in my A215-S7437 and press the power button the hard drive makes a spinning noise for a moment and then stops. The fan spins normally and the screen stays black, doesn't even turn on the backlight. The fan puts out hot air after a while of running. Connecting it to a VGA Monitor does nothing. Anybody know what's going on?

You might want to try these suggestions:
What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

  • RTC battery problem A215-S7437

    Hi all,
I have been having problems with my Satellite A215-S7437 laptop getting a "CMOS checksum bad" error upon startup for the past couple of months. This error usually occurs the first time I start the computer up in the morning. I press F1 to load defaults and windows starts as normal. No bigs. I tried to charge the RTC battery by leaving the computer plugged in (charging) and on for 24 hours. This didn't seem to help. I also recently updated the BIOS to the latest version. This hasn't helped either.
In addition, sometimes, especially when I haven't turned the computer on for a while, it will fail to boot. No splash screen, just lights and normal HD powering up sound but nothing else. I power-cycle the machine about 10 times and eventually it will start, give me two system beeps and the checksum bad error. I hit F1 to load defaults and Windows starts normally. Today I got a new error "ERROR 0250: System battery is dead - replace and run SETUP. ERROR 02B0: Diskette drive A error. Press F1 to load defaults, F2 to setup." The machine did not respond when I pressed F1 or F2, so I power-cycled it and got my familiar CMOS checksum bad error and it started as usual.
All this to say that I am convinced that my RTC battery is well and truly the cause of my problems and should be replaced. Now, the question is whether or not it can be done without sending my ~3-year-old laptop to a ASP 3 hours away and paying an arm and a leg. I do have a kind friend who I am confident can perform laptop surgery to replace the RTC battery without killing it.
Does anyone know what kind of RTC battery this model takes? Is it soldered to the motherboard? How much would it cost to have the ASP take care of it?
    Thanks for all your help.
    Regards,
    T

    Hello
Googling around I found info that for Satellite A210 (similar to your US A215) you can use follow RTC batteries:
    RTC battery (Maxell ML1220T10) Lithium-Ion 3.0V 14 mAH
    RTC battery (Maxell ML1220HT10) Lithium-Ion 3.0V 18 mAH
    RTC battery (Sanyo ML1220T28) Lithium-Ion 3.0V 15 mAH
    RTC battery (Panasonic ML1220/B) Lithium-Ion 3.0V 17 mA
Replacement procedure is pretty complicated and the whole notebook must be disassembled. If you are not familiar with this stuff you should not do this to avoid some hardware damage.
I dont know how much you must pay for replacement by ASP. Call and ask them.
    Bye

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to defaults? See if that works.
If not, try updating the BIOS.

  • Crazy Vista on Satellite A215-S7437 - How to restore it?

    Hi,
    I really need help.
I have a Satellite A215-S7437 and the windows Vista is crazy.
I want to restore the laptop with the recovery partition.
I haved read that if i want to boot with this hidden recovery partition i need to press the 0 zero key when i turn it on.
But it dosen't work in any way.
IS THERE OTHER WAY TO BOOT FROM THIS PARTITION....?
    help, help me.

Just to let you know this notebook does not have a hidden partition
In order for you to run the recovery process you need the recovery DVDs that came with this notebook
If you dont have them you will porobably need to contact Toshiba support in the US to order the recovery disks because this is US made notebook
Sorry about that inconvenice but that is the issue
here is the web site for that specific notebook

  • 1.90 BIOS Update for Satellite A215-S7437 doesnt work

I tried updating to the latest BIOS 1.90 on my Satellite A215-S7437 laptop but i found out that it froze at saying it was reading Old Bios, i let it sit still for 2 hours and then i did a hard shutdown. Then rebooted laptop, thankfully i did not bricked it had i done so my motherboard would be useless or would it?  My knowledge about BIOSes is limited but i do know something didnt go right.  Well only reason i was updating was because i saw that it added compatibility with Windows 7 and i plan to get Windows 7.  So is it worth the risk or would i be fine installing Windows 7 without the latest update which introduces 2.1 slic.
Also is there a way to check if my old bios didnt get affected, i mean i know laptop is working right now but who knows. If my Bios ever gets bricked what would i do to fix it?
BTW this is the update that i found not to work for me. Even though its for my model of laptop.

If it's working correctly your old bios wasn't affected.  Since if froze while READING the bios it hadn't had time to actually write any new information yet.  That is what saved you.  If it had frozen while WRITING the new data it would have required sending it in to Toshiba for a repair.  If you decide to update the bios again you need to read the instructions for flashing From the bootable BIOS installation CD-ROM.  That is a MUCH safer way to accomplish this.  ALso make sure you are running on AC power.  NEVER FLASH WHILE ON BATTERY POWER although you do want the battery installed.
I wouldn't update it unless you have to.  Wait to see if Windows 7 is NOT able to install or activate.  This is especially true if your system is out of warranty as you'll have to pay to get it fixed.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • A215-S7437 - headphone and microphone + soundcard problems

    Hi there,
I searched in several parts of the Internet for instructions on how to make my headphone and microphone jacks work as properly as they were when I got a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437 laptop.
One day I heard an odd sound in my headphone and/or microphone outlets, and sometime (probably a day) later, my laptop completely froze (even I couldn't move the mouse) whenever I start running the microphone's driver.  Next, I found one thread in this forum saying that I must reinstall the Realtek audio driver, but when I did, and after I plug in the headphones and microphone, the speakers stay on, while the microphone doesn't function at all and the volume control on the bottom-right corner of the screen can't adjust the volume when the headphones and microphone were inserted, although the slider can still be moved.  Then I found another thread that said to set the headphones to default while making sure the microphone is unmuted.
I'm also going to ask how to record audio on-screen, like using Audacity to record what's playing in an .SWF audio player. The desktops I have at home already included that function when they were brand new, but not this laptop.
I need to know how to solve these problems.  I appreciate it.

    Hello?

  • How to fix windows 7 startup failure? Windows startup repair cannot help

Recently, my laptop have problem with the startup and unfortunately it is showing crash dump error as well.
This is the error mesage for startup issues: c000021a fatal system error, intial session process or system process terminate
and this is error message for crash dump: STOP: 0x0000000A (0xFFFFF80003BEDE60, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000008, 0xFFFFF80003BEDE60)
So, when i start my laptop it comes up with the startup c000021a fatal system error. I tried to go to startup repair and chose the "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)" after that it shown system crash dump error message.
Unfortunately, I did not make the restore point. I want to reinstall my windows but it cant boot from CD/DVD due to startup failure. I already choose the booting sequence to CD/DVD as first sequences but it still does not work.
Anyone can help me with this issues?

    Hi Arie K,
Please explain a bit about the following question for better analyzation:
    1. What changes have you made before this issue?
    2. Do you receive the same error message when we use the normal boot, safe mode and Last Known Good Configuration? If no please share it with us.
    3. What error messages do you receive when we try to boot from CD/DVD?
We could try to use the USB driver to performance the system restore or reinstall.

  • Hard Drive and Startup Failure Code(Model: G61-429WM) Notebook

Windows won't start because it is missing a .DLL file.  I ran the system diagnostic tests( Hard Drive and Startup) they both gave me the same failure code(UOC7HA-52H74A-XD0021-60X603).  When I turn the computer on, it tells me to insert the system disc which I don't have.  Please advice.  Thank you!

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

  • Startup failure!

Well, here's how it is. Startup leads me only to the logo with an endlessly spinning progress dial. Safe booting also leads here. The only way for me to get anywhere is to boot up with the startup disc, and from there all I can really do is use the disc utility. Unfortunately it finds errors with the number of threads and such that it cannot repair after three tries. I've had the same results from fsck. Safe booting now leads to kernel panics. Is there some other way I can use the startup disc to reach safe mode? Any response appreciated.

The system profiler should show you the SMART status of the drive.
If the SMART status indicates that the drive has failed or is going to fail then it will have to be replaced. Prices vary depending upon size and speed. You can get drives from $89.00 up to many hundreds of dollars.
If the profiler indicates the drive has failed then you can't use any disk repair utility on the drive. You also cannot install a new system on it. You do have a backup of all your important files don't you?
If not then you will have to either accept that your data is lost or you will have to purchase recovery software which may or may not be able to recover the data on your drive.
If the SMART status does not indicate failure then I don't know what you can do. If the installer disk cannot even see the drive I don't know how you would do a reinstall of the system.

    Joe

There are quite a few dv7 failures. Just google "hp dv7 problems" or "hp dv7 class action". It is a motherboard failure common to a NVIDIA motherboard that HP and several other companies used. After a few years, the chickens are coming home to roost. My dv7 is 3 yrs old and has lasted longer than many I've read about. A fix runs about $400 by some estimates, although I've found one on ebay for $179.  I'm checking that out now.  No more HP products for me.

  • Randon startup failures with new rig

I have just bought an MSI K8T board with Athlon64 and 512MB RAM as a package deal, to replace my PIII/600, Abit-BH6 rig which went belly up. After assembly I discovered that my PSU didn't have the JPW 12V connector for the PSU, so I hustled out and bought a new one.
I get start-up problems. I've stripped right back to the following:
mobo, cpu, ram, video. I've connected front panel LEDs & switches, keyboard, monitor, PSU & d-bracket.
When I boot I get a whole range of failures. Out of ten attempts I get...
    7 at processor init
    1 at early chipset init
1 at the AMI BIOS System Configuration Screen display
1 at faiing to boot of network (which actually had all four green LEDs on the d-bracket! woo-hoo.
Once I had it try to boot off floppy when the drive was connected.
Any suggestions..? It's driving me mad actually!
Spec of what i'm using ought to be right here on my sig....

Thanks for the comments on the PSU, not at all suprised I bought a piece of junk. I'm now running on the (borrowed) Antec listed below, indeed I am writing this post on the new rig, booted into Knoppix off CD.
However, startup is still very hit and miss, it doesn't seem any different. The fact I booted an OS is only really because I connected the CD drive. Is it possible that I still don't have enough power..? Can on get Mr Fusion  (powered the DeLorean time machine in Back To The Future if you recall) for ATX cases.. ;-)
When it does start, it runs just fine - at this point it's been going for 20 minutes.
If only Counter-Strike was pre-installed on Knoppix, i'd be just about ok!
Has anyone else seen this wierd startup problem..?
I'm going to look at memory timings next, just for something to try...

  • New iMac, startup failure, question mark: TH00-9.000 TH0O-9.000

    Hi everyone!
My new alu iMac worked for 3 weeks. Today it suddenly crashed. Now the boot process stops with a flashing question mark.
Disk Repair didn't find any harddisks to repair.
System Profiler stated "There was an error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices."
AHT reports the following error code: 4sns/1/40000000: TH00-9.000 harddisk failure.
The error appears during (or after) the main logic board test while the fans spin up.
Looking closely the space between the zeros in TH00 is significantly smaller. So maybe it's not a zero but an upper case O.

Please look over the following Apple Advice letter:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
My guess is the internal HD has crashed, this of course would be covered by your 1 year warranty so you should contact Apple immediately for repair. Please remember hard drives are not made by Apple and they do fail. Some last weeks some last 10 years, unfortunately they are very unpredictable. While this is frustrating this is why you have a warranty. If you have been using Time Machine then once the internal drive has been replaced restoring will be painless with TM.
If you have added an external HD or have a flash drive inserted in one of the USB slots that can confuse the machine so it doesn't know where the startup volume is. Try re-starting by holding down the Option key, if the machine sees start up disks it will highlight them, then choose the internal HD. Once the machine has started then go to System Preferences-Startup Disk and select the internal disk.
If that doesn't work please post back and let us know what happened. BTW you don't state where you are located but you may be covered by AppleCare. Look in your owners manual for the phone number in your area and contact Apple, you have 90 days of free telephone support.

  • Kernel startup failure and timeout error during J2EE startup

We are working on getting a DR (Disaster recovery) instance of EP6.0 started up after a restore from an offline backup of our Production Portal. This is on a separate piece of hardware. We resolved this error. It was a timeout setting that we needed to change on the J2EE that allowed it to bypass the timeout error.

  • Startup failure, urgent help needed!!!

I have an 2008 intel based imac 24 inch with Mavericks OSX installed, it suddenly showed a flashing folder with a question mark and it shows it after startup each time winch persists, sometimes after few clicking a sounds and often a beep.
I've tried the alt/option button on startup but nothing happens.
I also tried to instal my original DVD of leopard on an external hard drive and tried to open disk utility , but the internal hard disk wasn't found !!
I haven't done a backup before this happened, is there any way to recover or fix this solution.
    Thanks

You can take the HD to a HD recovery specialist. Expect to pay hundreds of dollars or more.
You are probably about to learn a very difficult lesson on why backing up is not something you should do it's something you MUST do. In addition when it comes to backup, redundancy is a VERY good idea. Meaning having multiple backup solutions is smart.
You can take the machine to an AASP and see if they have any other ideas or if they can somehow get the machine to boot maybe they can backup your files using Time Machine.
I am very sorry you have to go through this but I can guarantee you won't forget this lesson.
