  • Laptop slows down after about 6 hrs.

I have a Satellite M500-ST6444 with Windows 7, 64 bit.It is about 17 months old. After it is on about 6 hrs., windows live mail goes very slow, when switching between emails. And same for explorer 9. When try to open another program, it takes many minutes to load. The wheel (old hourglass) just keeps spinning. Fan is running at 64% and cpu temp is about 64%. It takes about 30 minutes to get it to shutdown. AAfter reboot, all is ok, for about 6 hrs. It started doing this about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas? Thanks, Howie

    Satellite M500-ST6444
Let's make some tests after things slow down, Howie.
What happens when you boot into Safe Mode?
Start your computer in safe mode
Also, what happens when you boot normally into another account. If necessary, create one.
       Create a user account
Don't discount the possibility that your hard drive is failing. Components going bad tend to malfunction when they warm up. That would account for the slowdown as reads and writes must be repeated. Keep your backups up to date.

  • System Slow-Down After Printing

I recently installed Mountain Lion. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a significant operating system (10.8.2) slow down after printing with my Epson R3000 printer. This happens after every printing session. When I say slow-down I mean significant delays and dreading "beachballs" when opening applications, selecting menu items or anything else I should choose to do. I'm left with re-starting the computer to get going normally again. After re-atarting I have gone to "verify permissions" and I get approx "5" pages of permission errors, all associated with the printer library in some fashion or another. I then repair all those permissions and re-start my MacPro. The operating system then works as normal and I can use the computer with no problems (until I start printing again). I mainly use the computer for photo editing with Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Lightroom 4 and Aperture 3.2.
I did not have this problem before upgrading to Mountain Lion (and then to 10.8.2). I did not get "significant" permission errors before upgrading. Since all printer drivers for this printer are handled now by Apple via the "new" Software Update process I can't even re-download the Epson printer driver and start over. I'm completely at a loss as to what, associated with the printer function, is causing these "significant" permission errors and subsequent operating system slow down. My printer is almost brand new and was working flawlessly before Mountain Lion. Let me be clear though, I can print fine. My problem is the system slow down after using the print function which I am only guessing has something to do with the "5" pages of permission errors after printting photos (with CS6/Lightroom/Aperture).
Incidently, I am not in any way a computer expert. Verifying and repairing permissions is about all I know how to do that's why I need help. I also just thought I would try the forums first before going to technical support to see what people thought about this.
Again, I repair the permission errors, re-start my system and all is fine. Any further suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

  • System slow down after upgrade to 10.10.2

Still have a slow down after updating to 10.10.2
Tried everything I can think of.
Get spinning color wheel for a long time when opening even small files. Scrolling through folders, cursor hangs for a moment. opening and saving takes much longer.
Used HD repair and repaired permissions and diagnosed HD.  No problems.
Looking at Activity Monitor, I don't see anything that stand out-

  • Laptop broke down after installing kernel 3.0

My laptop died little after installing kernel 3.0 (the "linux" package). Details:
    - Laptop model: ASUS K50AB-SX029L, it was exactly 2 years minus 10 days old (based on the purchase date); specifictions here.
    - using cpufreq frequency scaling (ondemand) and the catalyst drivers for video - if this is useful.
    - the laptop used to get heated  when the ventilation became obstructed by dust; however, the sensors worked, it used to instantly shut down when it was intensely used and too hot in the room.
    - after I installed linux-3.0, I noticed some error message early at boot time, something about "soft restart" or "soft reboot" and something about "device" (not configured, maybe) - I don't remember well.
How it happened: I installed kernel 3.0 yesterday, rebooted, then built/installed the AUR ATI drivers (catalyst-utils, catalyst, lib32-catalyst-utils), rebooted again and then I left it building an AUR package. When I came back to it, the desktop was frozen, I forced a shutdown using the power button and since then, every time I turn it on, it gets powered, the fan is spinning and the USB external drive starts, but nothing else happen - no display, no boot, no spinning HDD. I removed its CMOS battery, but the same.
Now, since too many possible factors coincide - I installed kernel 3.0 for the first time, laptop was 2 y.o., it was used somehow intensely along the time, its warranty was just expiring - it is of concern to me what happened, if possible to find out. I mention that it was 2 years old because another laptop left me down before, after the exactly same period of using Linux (Arch for like 4 months on that one), different model and different brand (Acer). What is of interest:
    - someone else's laptop breaking down coincided with updating to kernel 3.0?
    - someone else's laptop broke down after 2 years or similar of using Linux/Arch daily? Any difference in reliability compared to using other OSs?
    - any insight in the reliability/durability of the notebook hardware in general (things that may not depend on the OS)? I mean if it was supposed to die anyway after 2 years of usage - which sounds too short to me, btw - maybe it was just a big coincidence that it happened right after linux 3.0 was installed. But there is a need for some arguments supporting this hypothesis, while searching the web comes with a lot of irrelevant or contradictory information.
    - if the case, how could the malfunctioning/misconfiguration of the OSs in general, Linux in particular, damage the hardware? I think overheating is out of question when the sensors work, but I'm open to information on this subject.
    - what data (logs, etc) could be relevant and how should I analyze it, after retrieving it off the dead laptop HDD?

MoonSwan wrote:Funny thing, my netbook's battery (an asus eeepc) pretty much died at exactly 1 year and 362 days old.  Coincidence?  I don't know.
Inxsible wrote:In my opinion, if you buy a laptop from the "Home and Home Office" section --- no matter what company, you most often get shitty computers that last all of 1 -2 years if you are lucky. My HP dv9000t mobo got fried exact 2 weeks after the warranty expired. Then fixing that, the wireless broke down, then the lcd got dead pixels. I think this is not a coincidence... Lenovo Thinkpad T series is what I went with after I gave up on the HP.
+1 on both. I had a kernel panic in my head this AM, too, but if you ask me it sounds suspiciously like a planned 2-year lifecycle on the products. Sack of middle fingers to the OEM retail products divisions.
Last night I had started compiling a kernel and was working on my thesis (which has nothing to do with computers besides using a word processor). Did a $ sudo pm-suspend and went to sleep when the machine finished compiling. This morning I'm at my desk with a multimeter and trying to find a local place that carries SATA to USB assembly.
BIOS won't come up, screen won't turn on, I'm definitely not getting to GRUB--pressing enter repeatedly and waiting does not lead to the hard disk thrashing at all. Yanked the battery, tested the adapter, cycled the power switch b/c I can't find the CMOS jumper and there's no repair manual for this thing. I realize I did leave a single USB fan and a USB light (turned off) plugged in during the suspend, but am having a hard time thinking that drawing power at USB spec (5V/100mA max) from USB could have done this especially with the A/C power source available. I'm not familiar with the actual suspend process, but a 5V rail is a 5V rail when it's got power, right?
I'm not going to start yanking individual components just yet, I actually want to get sh!t done today. The machine in question has a manufacture date of January 2009 stamped on the bottom.
    Mfg Date: 2009/01/07
So two years, seven months and about three weeks of life. Even with a backup of mission-critical files from last week, this sucks--losing 60 hours of work is FTL. Fingers crossed that whatever zapped it didn't get to the disk. I'm still kinda shocked about all this. Get it? Shocked? Har har X-(
I'm not going to blame the 3.0 kernel though I was tempted. "But I didn't even install the new kernel... how can this be"? I thought maybe I blew up my processor or something by compiling, running libreoffice, VLC and firefox all at once... hardly. Bad timing on a new kernel, maybe, or I managed to piss off some DelHewlitSUSway god, or something. I've had battery/power issues on this machine almost since day one, but never any indication of impending doom.
I agree completely with the advice to get laptops from a "small business" or institutionally-oriented line, like Lenovo/IBM's Thinkpads, and even thought about Mac this morning, but don't have a trust fund. I'm writing this on a second-hand Thinkpad R series almost six years old. The LCD screen and/or cable are damaged, the disk spins at an underwhelming 4300 RPM or whatever and I have to keep the fan at max levels all the time but at least it f-cking boots up.
Sorry if this is a thread hijack, but if you can't get to BIOS you can't get to BIOS. After confirming it's not a video issue the only options are to yank all parts not necessary to booting up, clear the CMOS by finding the jumper or battery or trying to cycle power via the switch (for, like, 5 minutes), and reinstall parts one-by-one until replicating the issue. If you can't get that far, the mobo, BIOS or processor is probably nuked.

  • Why do my loops slow down after many iterations

My Vi seems to freeze up or slow down after several iterations of the loop. This is an Analog Input Capture VI.

First of all, thank you for your contribution. You are right to say that I have no need in changing the AI Config every time that the loop runs. But as this is supposed to be a soft-scope, I need to be able to update the parameters associated with AI Start while the loop is running (e.g. trigger level).
I have tried to move the AI Config subVI out of both loops but the error as a result is: "No transfer in progress for the specified source."
I also need a sampling rate of exactly 96kHz. I realize that the laptop clock cannot attain this value. Do you know how I could get exactly 96kHz.

  • Macbook WI-FI Slow down after Screensaver kicks in

I just got this new macbook a few days ago. Everything is been working great except for this problem. I am experiencing an internet slow down after the screensaver Flurry kicks in. as long as the screen saver doesnt kick in, the internet still works fine.
Does anyone has a solution to it or experienced something similar to my problem?
Any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

I encounter a similar problem using my girlfriends new Macbook (Intel Core 2 duo). Out of the box, i remember it working well and it was fast on my network using a Linksys WRT54G router (firmware v8.00.2). However, over the course of a few days, WiFi speeds deteriorated quickly.
    This solution worked for me:
-Set the router to channel 3, 6 or 11
-Enable WEP encryption (mine is set to WEP 128bit)
-When entering the Key (key 1) into Airport prefix it with a *"$"* ie. "*$19C7B8C383489.....*" would be your key.
This is prior to adjusting settings on the router.

  • When i take photos or videos on my ipod touch with the camera, then i plug it into the computer to sync, the computer shuts down and this blue screen comes up saying "an error has occured" and a heap of other stuff.

When i take a photo or a video using the camera on my ipod touch, the computer (windows xp) shuts down and a blue screen comes up saying "an error has occured" and a heap of oth stuff in white. It doesn't wipe the memory or anything off the ipod. Whenever i sync my ipod without photos or videos it works fine. It also doesn't mind me taking photos off itunes to put on the ipod. I have had a look around and a couple of people say reinstall itunes, but i don't know if i will lose all my songs and apps. Any suggestions of help?

Removing all Apple related software and reinstalling iTunes should bring all needed drivers back: Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Also check for new driver updates for Windows, especially if you have a webcam installed.
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

  • Slow down after installing Lion OS

My Macbook pro later than 2009 model slowed down after installing the new OS Lion
any suggestions to speed it up

First suggestion ,there have been a number of identical user questions like yours, in the Lion Community. If you want to talk to other MacBook Pro owners, try the forum they have.
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro
What you do not need is some gizmo to "speed up" or clean caches etc.
Maybe you need to make more room on your hard drive, or add more RAM.
For now, hold down Command-R and run Disk Utility to check the health of your system drive (Lion Recovery Mode)

  • Compleat system slow down after current updates

Has anyone learned why we all seem to have a compleat system slow down after the current set of updates? Everything works, but is VERY slow to respond. Even iTunes 7.1.1 plays video choppy now. Audio track plays fine however. Odd.
    -Apple //GS

First of all, try repairing your permissions with Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility. Select the hard drive you're running off of and then click the Repair Permissions button.
If that doesn't work I'd do an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Then run the combo update(s) instead of the consecutive ones. That seems to be working for a lot of people, but it will probably take a while.

  • System slow down after lion update 8/18/11

Has anyone else had a problem with their system slowing down after downloading the system update for Lion on 8/18?  My system is not nearly as responsive and is only about two weeks old and have not installed any software other than Microsoft Office 2011 when I bought the machine.  Any ideas?

Ok my system is booting and shutting down faster now.. This method worked for me:
    First, I repaired the permissions:
    1) Open up Disk Utility
    2) Select your hard drive
    3) Now select Repair Disk Permissions.
Then, I deleted the caches folder:
    1) From the Finder's Go menu, select Go To Folder, and go to this folder: /Library
    2) Delete everything inside the Caches folder (This might require the Admin Username & Password)
Finally, go to System Preferences and click on Startup Disc then click on your boot drive (In my case I've selected my HD labeled "Macintosh HD Mac OS X, 10.7.1". Now do a restart by clicking on the Restart button. If you don't have a Startup drive selected your mac will waste time at boot searching for a suitable boot drive !
I Hope this works for you as well.
    Cheers!

  • My phone keeps on looping with the apple logo after the blue screen.

I tried to up date my iPhone 5s thru iTunes and got error statin iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore  this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes. Saw a video on you tube to use rec boot. So I downloaded rec boot v1.3 to try and kick it out of recovery mode and my phone keeps on looping with the white screen and black apple logo after the blue screen. I tried kicking it out with tiny umbrella and nothing happens. I was able to put the phone back in recovery mode and try using tiny umbrella while still connect to iTunes and hit exit recovery mode. under log tab it says sending exit recovery request to model # of the phone and nothing happen. My last option is to restore to factory settings which I don't want to do cause I would loose every thing. Can some one tell me I'm doing wrong or how to fix it. I would be greatly appreciate it the help. Thanks in advance.

Its looping because the iOS is not bootable which is why the iPhone booted to the ROM recovery mode.  Try using iTunes 12's 'Update' option when the iPhone is in recovery mode.

  • Lightroom workflow slows down after modifying an image

    Hi fellow users,
Lightroom 4.3 runs smoothly if I work on unmodified images.
However, if I apply modifications on an image, retouching it afterwards becomes much slower, even if I render a preview AFTER I made modifications on the image.
I tell you an example: I import a raw file to the program and I render it`s preview. Then I retouch the image - it works very fast, no waiting time, no Loading overlay.
Where the problem starts: I import a raw file, I apply some modifications on it (for example a preset), then I render it`s preview - then I want to do more modifications on the image, which becomes very slow.
I was monitoring the cpu usage of the computer. In the first case, the cpu usage during modifying the image is normal.
In the second case, it goes up to 100%.
It seems that applying modifications on an image makes working on it slow, no matter if you have the most up-to-date preview or not.
Anyone knows if it is normal or not?
Is there any solution to this?
    Thanks,
    Tamas
    My configuration:
Windows 7 64 bit (up to date)
    Lightroom 4.3 64 bit
    Fast PC
    lightroom settings:
    camera raw cache: 20gb
    video cache: 10gb

First of all, you can forget about the preview rendering, that's irrelevant. Previews are only used by the Library module, not the Develop module. In Develop, it's handled by the ACR cache.
Now, as for slowing down after initial adjustments, that's a variable I haven't looked out for. But it could well be correct (it would explain some weird results I got across two machines recently).
In general, Lightroom 4 performs well below expected standards on some systems, while others fly along, and it seems nobody can explain why. Long story, do a search on this forum and you'll come up with several lengthy threads. The problem is that there are so many variables in this that it's almost impossible to even define what "slow" means. And now you've added another (interesting) one...
