Savage Video drivers broke, no 3d acceleration-How to Fix

If you are currently using a laptop with the Savage/Super Savage chipsets you do not have 3d hardware acceleration and have not for about the last six months.  This is a known problem and I found the following URLs and bug reports about it:
http://www.mail-archive.com/dri-devel@l … 29967.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2006/11/msg00824.html
This is affecting multiple distros and multiple types of laptops that use the Savage video chipset.  The webpage below explains how to fix the problem and return 3d acceleration to your Savage chipset.  It is a very easy fix and takes less than 5 minutes from compile time to installation depending on the speed of your computer.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepor … g=37;att=0
If any Arch developers are reading this please add the fix to Arch.  This problem causes all graphics to be slow, 2d and 3d, and the new modules fixes it.
Thank you!

  • Slow GUI apps with savage video drivers?

Whenever I run an app with a GUI it barely runs. I can take Firefox as an example, Starting it is fine but whenever I visit a website that requires scrolling its incredibly slow. I started with Openbox and tried switching to xmonad but both has the same problem. The specifications of the computer is 1ghz cpu, 1gb memory and a savage gpucard. Ive tried both Vesa and Savage video drivers with the same results. Anyone who had a problem like this and know how to solve it?

Do you configure X manually with xorg.conf? I've found two examples for a xorg.conf in the wiki:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IBM … d_T23#Xorg
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IBM … d_T21#Xorg
While they seem a little bit dated (xorg 1.5) and are probably not for your machine, it may be worth trying some of the ideas.
With respect to Firefox, I found that disabling the smooth scrolling feature (Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General) brought me some speed increases on older graphics cards.

Although you say you have let the battery drain, was it for long enough? Since nothing else that you've tried so far has worked, I suggest that you leave the iPod unplugged for at least four days, preferably a week. That way, if something is stopping the iPod from turning the screen on, then whatever it is will drain the battrey. However, since the screen isn't on, that may take longer than if the screen was on.
Then, after that time, plug the iPod into a power source and leave it alone for at least thirty minutes. Only after thirty minutes will it show any signs of life, but you should leave it until it is fully charged before trying to use it.
If you get to this stage, the fact that the battery has drained will cause the iPod to reset when it springs back to life.
Let us know how you get on.

UPDATE: fixing iPad Sound after iOS 7
    http://youtu.be/SDf1LDcE95Q
    (1min 36sec)
    It covers the basics:
    checking side-switch / mute / "Control Center"
    volume all up
    ...and also the worst cases:
closing all apps (for rare cases when a single app might render the sound system instable)
    rebooting the iPad
So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video.
There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers... or forgot Air-Play turned on... so be sure you disengage bluetooth and/or airplay.
On the 'hardware side', dirty dock connector (30 pin) can make the iPad 'think' it is connected to external audio - if so, cleaning it with a dry toothbrush can fix. Also, moisture in the headphones connector can make the iPad switch to 'headphones' even without headphones connected, making it silent: check if you can hear things with headphones plugged in - if so, try gently inserting and removing headphones a few times and check if you get sound back to iPad's speakers alone.
Good luck to everybody! Audio problems are quite common - fontunately they are easy to fix.

Further on Option 3, this can often be a good choice for older iPads, iPads out of warranty, or if you are looking for a cheaper option than Apple is offering.
Many communities have local repair shops who can fix broken iPad screens.  Try Yelp or another local search tool.
You can also try a variety of National Mail In repair companies who specialize in iPad Repair such as RepairZoom:  http://www.repairzoom.com/ipad-repair.html
Always check online reviews and BBB ratings before sending your iPad off for repair!

    Hi, jjsylves.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the media is still located on your computer, I would create a version specifically for the iPad.  To create and iPad version in iTunes 11 select the media that you are wanting to convert.  From there, select the File menu > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV version.  Once the media has been converted, sync the iPad version to the iPad.

  • Lost sound output to video links in Safari... how to fix?

Recently lost the sound playback of videos selected via links on web pages in Safari (opened via Quicktime or Windows Media Player).
I can still browse online and hear previewed videos with iTunes, and can also open and hear videos first selected via the Quicktime Player. Tested adjustments in the sound preferences with no change. Not sure if related, but I have also recently worked with sound related hardware (iMic) and software (WireTap and SoundSource).
    Would love some HELP... thanks

    Hi,
Have a read of this article and give those instructions a try:
No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)

  • Can someone tell me how to update the video drivers on my laptop?

one of the games I play online claims my video drivers are out of date, how do I update them without a huge fight?

Someone could give you better and more exact information but you didn't include the model number of your computer. But I can give you a pretty generic answer. At the top of this webpage you should see Product Support. Click on Laptops and then select which model of Toshiba computer you own, ie Satellite, Tecra, etc. Finally type in the model number of your computer. Select the exact model number and click the red Go button to the right. Click the Downloads tab and look thru the different drivers for this computer. Make sure that the new video driver is newer and has a higher version number than your current video driver. If it does, click the Download button, click the Run button and let it do the installation. Afterwards, reboot the computer so that the latest drivers are fully installed. Try again with that game.

  • Compat-drivers broke my video

    Hello guys.
I have arch linux updated to this date (3/3/2013). A few days ago I've installed compat drivers patched from the AUR in order to get best wireless support. But it seems to have been update some of my video drivers (i915, i have a msi wind u100x) and now mi video doesn't work quite right. basically, when I boot, it start well, and when it load all my udev modules, the window blink a little ligher (as usually) and then it should change my resolution (it doesn't). then the system starts well, but i'm unable to start any xorg-server, startx or xrandr. anything else works fine, as it works on console mode.
Then, I try a distro, who boots from usb, and "restore" my arch instalation. It boots fine, and restore my usual config, i can start xorg and stuff. bun when i boot from original boot it work wrong again.
Looking un my dmesg ouput, i find this:

I've uninstalled compat-drivers-patched (all from pacman), and the problem was gone. BUT, I am a stupid user, so my best idea was to install manually compat-drivers, version v3.8-rc7 (make; make install)
Then, again, the same problem. make uninstall doesn't do anything, so now I'm stuck. Installing xf86-video-linux doesn't help. so, anyone have some idea about what could I do?
    Thanks
    Sorry for my bad english

You need to upgrade both of xorg-server and all its drivers, including the mga driver. Maybe the newer version is not yet in repository??

  • Installed FF 33.0, & now embedded images and videos on websites are blank. How fix? How roll-back to 32.0.3?

I installed FF 33.0, and "OpenH264 Video Codec by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.1" plug-in installed itself automatically. Did that cause this problem? I set it to "Never Activate," which seems to have disabled it, but the problem persists. Do I need H264 for any reason? If not, can I uninstall it, and if so, how? Also, how do I revert FF to a previous verson? V. 33.0 seems to have caused this problem, whether it's due to H264 codec or something else in this version. There seems to be some incompatiblity somehow that wasn't there before -- what can I do to fix this?

Are they blank or black? If they are black I would recommend disabling hardware acceleration. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
This does not cause an issue, it adds to the variety of codec types Firefox can render.

  • Installing AMD Video Drivers - Windows 8.1 (Step-By-Step Tutorial)

I am currently in the process of installing the latest AMD Video Drivers for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) on a Bootcamp partition.  I previously had three ATI Radeon HD2600XT Graphics cards (in CrossFire) installed in a 2008 Apple Mac Pro.
I've run into several problems with trying to remove the Radeon HD2600XT graphics cards and install the latest drivers (for the Radeon R9 290 graphics card) in Windows 8.1 (64-bit), so I am creating this to be used as tutorial for others experiencing similar problems.
    1) First I created a new/clean system restore point in Windows 8.1 prior to starting this.
Instructions can be found here:  http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-create-restore-point-in-windows-8-1/
    2) Second, I manually tried removing/uninstalling the AMD Software from add/remove programs in Windows 8.1 (Control Panel)
In Computer Control Panel, select "uninstall a program"
Select AMD Install Manager (and any Catalyst Software) and remove/uninstall the software (choose "express uninstall all AMD software").
Be sure to uninstall the AMD Install Manager.
    3) In my system, the hardware drivers for the three Radeon XT2600 graphics cards were not properly removed, and the drivers for the Radeon R9 290 were not properly installed.
    4) I tried running the AMD Driver Autodetect Tool
It stated "We were unable to find your product or OS" (and failed to download or install any drivers)
AMD Driver Autodetect displayed the following information:
    Graphics hardware:  0x1002 - 0x9588 PCIE
    Operating system: Windows 8.1 64-bit
    5) Since the latest software/drivers were not found with the AMD Driver Autodetect, I decided to manually download the latest Graphics card drivers from the AMD website for my graphics card and for my operating system (Windows 8.1 64-bit).  I created a folder called "C:\Drivers\AMD" and downloaded the latest AMD Graphics card drivers (Catalyst Software Suite 14.9) to that folder and unzipped the AMD drivers installation file.  I unzipped the file which included the following drivers/files:
Catalyst Software Suite 14.9 includes the following files:
                AMD Display Driver ver. 14.301.1001
                              OpenCL(tm) Driver
                              Catalyst Control Center
                              HydraVision
    6) I downloaded and unzipped DDU v13.5.1.3 (downloaded from 3D Guru)
I created a folder called "C:\Drivers\DDUv13.5.1.3" and unzipped the DDU installation files to that folder
    7) I ran DDU v13.5.1.3 (downloaded from 3D Guru)
          It displayed the following information:
    DDU Version:13.5.1.3
GPU # 0000 Detected : ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)
    GPU DeviceId : pci\ven_1002&dev_9588

    INF : oem55.inf
    INF Section : ati2mtag_RV630
GPU # 0001 Detected : ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)
    GPU DeviceId : pci\ven_1002&dev_9588
    Detected Driver(s) Version(s) : 8.97.10.6

    Detected Driver(s) Version(s) : 13.251.9001.1001
    INF : oem63.inf
    INF Section : ati2mtag_Hawaii
    5) Based on the output above, it seems that some extremely old drivers are currently installed (v13.251.9001.1001), and I need to remove the old drivers for the hardware above, and try to install the latest AMD drivers (v14.9)
    6) I rebooted the computer into Windows 8.1 "Safe Mode".
Instructions can be found here:  http://www.7tutorials.com/5-ways-boot-safe-mode-windows-8-windows-81
    7) I went to the folder called "C:\Drivers\DDUv13.5.1.3" and ran DDU v13.5.1.3 and selected "Clean and restart" (in DDU 13.5.1.3) to remove ALL of the existing AMD drivers and to restart/reboot the computer.
      - After removing the current display drivers (in safe mode) with DDU v13.5.1.3 and after the system rebooted, I then tried to perform a "clean install" of the latest AMD drivers (v14.9)
    8) Now perform a "Clean Install" of the new AMD graphics drivers.  Steps for performing a "clean install" (from AMD's website) are listed below:
To perform a 'clean install' of AMD graphics drivers:
You should make a system restore point before attempting, just in case
    1. IMPORTANT: All Windows Updates should be current, including the 'optional/suggested' updates
    2. IMPORTANT: Disable all anti-virus/ad blockers/anti-malware/ anti-anything before trying to install
    3. IMPORTANT: Netframework is required and must be the latest version. (from Windows Update)
Download the drivers for your computer to the desktop. Follow steps 1-5 ( http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ).
Do not use 'auto-detect and install (it might not detect your graphics card or best drivers).
Delete existing drivers from your computer:
In computer control panel select 'uninstall a program'
    For computers with Intel processors:
Select AMD install manager and choose 'express uninstall all AMD software'
    Including the install manager.
    For computers with AMD processors:
Select AMD install manager and 'custom uninstall' the graphics drivers and CCC only.
    Reboot into 'safe mode'
In safe mode run Guru 3D's DDU
    Reboot
    Install the new driver suite.
    9) I went to the folder called "C:\Drivers\AMD\AMD-Catalyst-14-9-win7-win8.1-64Bit-dd-ccc-whql" and ran setup.exe  (Catalyst Install Manager)
I selected "Express Install" as the default installation (highly recommended).
    10) Rebooted the system after the Catalyst software and video driver installation.

In the end, I found out that the latest/newest Radeon drivers do not support the older Apple Radeon 2600XT graphics cards, so I was forced to remove the older Radeon 2600XT graphics cards from the system (so the newest/latest Radeon Catalyst Drivers would work).  I was then able to boot directly into Windows 8.1 Pro, and the AMD Catalyst software and AMD Catalyst Drivers worked perfectly with the R9 290 graphics card (in Windows 8.1 Pro).
The only problem is that the AMD R9 290 is not supported in OS X, and now I can't boot directly into OS X because the Apple OS X graphics card drivers are missing and don't exist.  Apple hasn't added AMD R9 290 graphics card support to the latest version of Apple OS X 10.10 Yosemite (or 10.9).
I posted a thread here about needing the AMD R9 290 graphics display drivers, but Apple still hasn't added the latest AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card drivers support to the latest Apple Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite operating system.
    Another big Apple fail!
So now we have a wonderful new high-end AMD R9 290 graphics card and all we can do is use our Apple Mac Pro computers as Windows 8.1 Pro computers, because Apple has not updated their Apple OS X operating system to support the newest/latest AMD R9 290 graphics cards.  (So we're stuck with using our Apple Mac Pro as a Windows 8.1 Pro computer) because Apple refuses to add the newest/latest hardware drivers to their latest Apple OS X operating system.  Anytime you purchase an Apple computer you are stuck using really old hardware because Apple fails to update their operating system with the newest/latest hardware drivers for the latest AMD R9 290 graphics card hardware.
The only way to use the latest/newest hardware is with a Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro computer.  Hopefully Apple will get this fixed immediately, but it's already been close to a year now and Apple still hasn't fixed the problem.
We tried to contact Sapphire, and AMD, but both of them have said that it's a problem with Apple's Mac OS X operating system, and that only Apple can fix the problem and add the proper hardware drivers to their operating system.

  • Graphics Card Does Not Show Up In Device Manager (Re: Installing AMD Video Drivers - Windows 8.1 (Step-By-Step Tutorial)

This tutorial is a step-by-step tutorial on how to "fix" issues of a new graphics card not appearing in Windows 8.1 Pro, or not appearing (as a device) in Device Manager, or it's not being detected by Windows 8.1.
This is the "second part" of a Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.
GRAPHICS CARD IS NOT DETECTED AND DOES NOT SHOW UP IN WINDOWS 8.1 DEVICE MANAGER
This problem can appear if the video card is not installed properly in the PCI slot and as a result the card is not detected in device manager. Check the physical connections again, reinsert the card properly in the PCI slot, check the connections (including the power cables going to the video card, and ensure that the fan on the graphics card is spinning and the card does have power and is properly seated/inserted) and then install the drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
If the video card is in fact installed properly, but the problem of the video card not being discovered/found by the operating system persists, then try these following methods below to check if this solves the problem.
    Method 1:
First, I would suggest you to run the following Microsoft Fixit to get the problem automatically detected and fixed. This Microsoft "fixit" App checks if the device is currently disabled or turned off or the driver is not installed.
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us
    Method 2:
Sometimes, some devices in device manager are hidden due to corrupt or missing drivers.
Follow the steps below to show hidden devices in the device manager and troubleshoot accordingly.
Press the Windows key + X
    Select Command Prompt (Admin)
Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit enter
Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC and hit enter.
Once in Device Manager hit the View menu and select show hidden devices.
From here, remove each instance of the AMD or Nvidia card you see as well as each unknown device. Exit Device Manager and reinstall the latest drivers you can find for your graphics card.
After you install the drivers, reboot and see if you get any different results.
If the above solved your problems and the Graphics Card is now working and is now being properly detected/displayed in Windows Device Manager:
If your graphics card is now being detected by Windows 8.1 in Device Manager, but has a "yellow exclamation" mark (or video drivers are not found or not properly installed or the device is disabled) then install the latest graphics card drivers and proceed with this Step-by-Step Tutorial on how to install AMD Radeon graphics card drivers in Windows 8.1 Pro.
    Method 3:
If methods suggested above does not help, I would recommend you to contact Apple/AMD/NVIDIA to get the latest chipset, BIOS, graphics card drivers installed properly.
