Save a brush

I created a brush in PS CC 2014. Back in PS CS6 the brushes I created were stored in a directory which I often copied to another drive in my system along with a cd for safe keeping.
However, I can not find anywhere on my pc that PS CC 2014 has saved a brush I recently created. it just isn't there.
The default brushes are at : c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Brushes
And brushes I get from the web and load into PS CC are at:
And this:C:\Users\Steven\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Brushes
But can anyone tell me where PS CC 2014 stores brushes I make. It's like they don't exist anywhere. Also for some reason the sync feature in PS CC 2014 does not include any brush I have except the defaults and this is why I want to know where it hides them. TIA

I assume that over at

  • How do you save the brushes texture property with a brush?

I just realized that brush presets won't save a brushes texture which is slightly annoying. I'm in CS6 btw and I'm familiar with photoshop which is why I'm posting here.
For example I have two brushes, a watercolor one (with texture turned on in the brushes panel to the watercolor background texture) I save it as a tool preset (I'm not making the saving as a brush preset mistake). I go make a paintbrush brush with a different background texture and save it as a tool preset. When I go use the watercolor brush it has the paintbrush background texture and NOT the watercolor.
I never touched the texture property until lately so I'm not sure if this has always been this way...
Is there some way to save that property or do I manually have to go and change it each time. I want to be able to share my brushes. Do I have to instruct people on which texture to use?

What version of cs6 and operating system are you using?
On windows 8 using cs6 13.01 i'm able to save textures with both brush presets and tool presets.
Perhaps there is a certain kind of brush or setting that is preventing photoshop from saving the texture setting for the brush.
What kind of brush are you using: i.e regular, bristle, pencil etc
Can you post a screnshot of the texture settings in the brush panel?

  • What am I doing wrong? Cannot save as brush?

    Hi all
I am trying to make a watermark for photos on my website.
However, when I try save my image as a brush preset, I get the error "Could not complete the define brush preset command because the selected area is empty"
I have made the background transparent, the heart white coloured with opacity, and the text is 'knocked out' of the heart.
Here's a picture of what I have done so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're targeting a type layer, that has no actual pixels on it.
Merge the layers, make sure you have a black shape on a white background - then define as a brush.

  • Adobe synce doesn't save added brushes, actions.

Just finished a complete recovery of windows 8.1 and decided to see if synce worked. the only thing it recovered was my workspace. Brushes and actions were ignored even though I told it to back them up. Luckily I had the foresight to copy the preset folder to a backup disk

bump, I realize my post is long, but the main issue is that on subsequent calls to this method, the only line that isn't working is the "Save"  method call. For some reason, it seems that Acrobat is maintaining a lock on the file, preventing a save. So that when I call "Save", the result value is "false" rather than "true", and the save never occurs.
The only solution I can think of is to never save to an existing file. I'd have to come up with a way to delete the current file and then save a file of the same filename in its place, but I haven't implemented this yet and can foresee their being issues with being unable to delete the file if it is being locked. Is this the intended functionality of "Save"? How long would I have to wait for Acrobat to release its lock on the file? Is there a way to cause the file to be unlocked (or saved over) programatically?

  • Create & save a brush in CS5?

"Help" menu did not help with this. Instructor said create a design, drag around it to isolate it and then I can't remember the rest of what to do to save it to my brushes. Please help.

    Create the brush design.
Make a selection around the brush design.
Edit->Define Brush Preset, give it a name.
You can edit the brush settings in the brush palette if you want, and save that to a new preset.
Now you can save all the brush presets, or go into the preset manager and save presets that you select.

  • Custom Brush sets don't save to dropdown menu

Hey!  I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on saving brush sets.  I've recently upgraded from Elements 7 to PS CC and the way I saved brush sets in Elements doesn't seem to work in CC.
I can make and save a brush set fine.  I save it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Presets\Brushes alongside the default "Assorted Brush" and all the others, and I can load them into an existing default set.
They never appear in the dropdown menu though.  I've tried saving through the preset manager and the dropdown menu and saving them over an existing brush set but it reverts to the old brush preset as soon as I changed between default sets.
On restart, they stay in the brush set if I load it before closing.
Can't get it to work no matter what I try.  What am I doing wrong? :S

Ah, that makes sense, coupled with the fact that the entire menu for external Speedlite control isn't available if no flash or a non-compatible flash is attached.
Here's Canon's response. Its a firmware bug after all, but hopefully can/will be fixed in the next firmware:
We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding your EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 7D, and Speedlite 580EX II.
Thank you for your response.  Tests were performed with the EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 7D, and the Speedlite 580EX II to duplicate the problem you are encountering.  Surprisingly, by following the settings you stated in the forum, we were able to duplicate the problem with our equipment too.  I have submitted a notification to our engineers who will look into the matter further and hopefully a future firmware update may be released to fix the problem.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 7D, and Speedlite 580EX II.
    Thank you for choosing Canon.

  • Impossible to Save Brush Library in Illustrator CS5

I want to save my Brush Library. I try to save in (Mac OS) Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS5/Brush. In the Adobe Folder there is no Adobe Illustrator CS5 listing. And it isn't listed in Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 either. What do you think I may be doing wrong?

So actually your problem is, that Illustrator won't launch? If it doesn't launch, are there any error warnings?
Most probably you will have to uninstall and re-install. Since you just deleted, I would also be very careful about the number of installations. I would call the support number and ask them about this issue. You know, this one: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/908395?tstart=0

  • Save brushes preset without a save dialog

I managed to get the basic code of saving the brushes preset by using the Scripting Listener plug-in.
Only problem is that it keeps popping the file save dialog.
I'd like to dump the dialog and save the brushes file to a predefined file path.
    Is it possible?

    OK. Got it.
If a file with that name already exists in that location, you need to remove or rename it first before you save.

  • Save With Profile with Brush?

Is there any way to save a brush with a width profile attached?  I like the width profile feature, but to have to go back and change it manually every time I switch brushes is annoying.
Is there any way to save it in the brush settings?  There is an option in the drop down menu that looks like it would do that, but it is greyed out on every brush, I can't figure out how to make that do anything.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Jason

Not really.  I have a few brushes I use, one of them, I've gotten some good results with 2 or 3 different width profiles.  I just wanted a way to easily get that brush with those different profiles.
I've got a workaround using graphic styles to do what I was talking about, so I have a working solution now.
I probably didn't explain it well in the OP.
    Thanks for the response though!

  • Save your favourite brush

I there possible in photoshop cs5 to save your brushes, so You very easily have the 5-6 you use most very fast and dont have to remember the number etc.
I mean you still have all the brushes avaible but just these few are close to your work.
I can see you can save your own brushes and so but do anyone have a good way of working with a few favourite brushes in a good way.
    /Mattias

You could use the preset manager to make a custom
    group of brushes:

Or you could make some tool presets for the brushes:

  • Brush, Pattern, Font, Custom Shape Tool, gradient, etc organization

On record, I have over 1,000 brushes, over 1,000 fonts, and I'm making other resources on the fly. I have an issue here: I can't find anything!!
(I also have a second issue with resources and crashes, but I'll get to that later.)
Is it that hard to ask Adobe to put in some font organization, tags for brushes and a search engine for them? Sometimes it's a pain trying to find the right font, but say, I think, "Hmm.. I want a font that is remotely Western, probably serif" there is no way in Adobe Photoshop to get through all of those fonts in a timely manner which means I'm spending about 2 hours shuffling through the fonts trying to find the right one. Sure there is a panel where you can select your favorite ones, but that's not by category... there is no sane way to find the font just for you.
Same thing for brushes. Often the problem with brushes is that people lose where they've come from, meaning no credit to the brush maker and when you want, say, fairies because you need some, you can't remember where the hell they are. And if you do, you have tons of brushes to sort through. People have a compulsion to not label their brush sets properly, which drives me nuts because they also expect you to give them credit. How about Adobe gives them a leg up? Give them a space not only to name the brush, but give it tags, a name and a website where it was found at. (Not required, but can be used or even expanded down.) And give it search capability. (So I type in birds, then the brushes menu retrofits to show all brushes with the tag of birds, I delete the search line, all the brushes come back, I type in standard. All of the round brushes come up, etc. I type in spiritsighs and all of her brushes come up... and so on). Gradients, etc should be the same.
Sure you can clear your brushes, but do you know how many brush packs I have to sort through, then load to get the right one? --;; A pain. (Plus brush packs are often lost in computer crashes, harddrive wipes, etc.)
So I'm asking for a way to organize and find these resources more easily, with better searching abilities, because while the guys on Photoshop TV can afford to dump their probably thousands of brushes for a demo, isn't it kind of odd that they often say, "Where is it? "Ah there it is" in their tutorials? They've apologized at least a dozen times for the "ah there it is" and the "I'm sorry Adobe doesn't give a font organizer", but here is a crappier alternative.
I'd like this in other programs in the CS suite too. Especially the Historyless Illustrator (Illustrator needs History) and InDesign. InDesign should have had font management a long time ago--most of it is about type setting anyway.
    Second part:
Crashes. You've spent 2 hours making the right brush, stayed past your bedtime, made the brush, and voila, Photoshop crashes. You've just lost 2 hours of work, your files, which in your artistic daze you forgot to save and any chance of getting that brush file back.
So I propose three fixes which are already out there in Computer land that Photoshop hasn't implemented. (And other Adobe products should also implement).
    1. The auto save. When the user isn't using the screen, or at x intervals it will ask the user if they want to save, which is settable by the user (prompting and the auto-saving). Microsoft has it, Most Mac programs have it, Adobe Photoshop should also have it.
    2. Generated back up files. At some intervals, instead of a full save, in case of a crash, Adobe Photoshop, when prompted will create back up files.
    3. A way for Photoshop and Illustrator when creating brushes, etc to auto-save said brush when the brush is created, rather than generating a pack. Like it updates a file in Photoshop when one creates a brush. This means it will hard save to the computer and one doesn't have to make a brush pack or shut down photoshop to get the brush to save. I think this would save a lot of people heartbreak.
Minor peeve, but when I hit undo often it jumps to the previous layer I was at. I'd like an option to turn this "feature" off.

not sure if anybody mentioned  this.
tumasoft.com has a product for viewing and organizing your  brushes patterns etc. 25 bucks.
This should be native to Photoshop rather than from an external program. It's in many other programs,so I don't understand why Photoshop doesn't have a system native to it.
To be blunt: If that has happened more than once to you and you still  don’t save useful, newly created brushes regularly you should, in my  opinion, improve your workflow.
Saving a brush into a set should be doable  in something like 15 seconds, less if you use Keyboard Shortcuts.
Even  less than that if one automates the task with a Script (which could  then be invoked either via a Keyboard Shortcut or Configurator Panel).
Let  me know if you want to give it a try.
You misunderstand me. I save the brush into the brush panel, and I may have the brush in up and working, but to save the brush permanently, you have one of these options:
    1. Quit Photoshop between each brush made. The Save Brush Preset was NOT a permanent solution. It should be automatically saved to a file. Such as "all". Illustrator has a similar feature, though this really needs to be streamlined for Illustrator as well.
    2. Save as a brush pack. However, if you have a bunch of brushes planned, this becomes a pain to do. This means out of say the 100 brush packs you have to find it every single time and add it and even if Photoshop crashes, the brushes you saved won't show up in the brush menu, because Photoshop doesn't remember any of the brushes you made until you quit Photoshop. This means then, if you're in the middle of making a brush and Photoshop crashes, you have to bring up said brush pack.
Do you really make brushes? 'cause I do. I make lots of brushes and it annoys me to no end that when I save the brush to the brush panel it's not a permanent save, but temporary. It should be permanent and I shouldn't have to shut down Photoshop to get it to save automatically to the Photoshop Brush palette.
I spend a lot of time refining my brushes by testing them, making them, and then testing them again. When I get the brush perfect, and find that something big has happened, I expect the brushes I saved to the brush palate should have saved permanently. But test it... You can force quit Photoshop, after saving to a brush to the brush palate and find that it's not at the end of the brush palate anymore. This is wacky and should be fixed. I view it as an internal bug rather than a "feature" i.e. something they didn't think about when they gave users the ability to create their own brushes. This is very programable as other programs can do it and as you pointed out it, it is minor. Especially with the advent of workable backup files, it has become ten times easier. Since Photoshop remembers on shut down, it may be even more minor--just shifting some code from the shut down process to the "save to Brush palate" process. I wouldn't mind say 5-10 seconds more of waiting while it saves if the  save ends up in a permanent save.
But as for organizing Brush Presets  and Brush-name search capabilities Photoshop could indeed do with some  improvements. (I still work with CS4, so I don’t know what changes  exactly CS5  brought in that respect.)
Fonts on the other hand … I suspect  the risks connected with implementing any expanded font-capabilities in  Photoshop may be significant.
Font organizers already exist. And programs have implemented them with success without hindering the work flow. I'm proposing this in addition to the "favorites" and the type-in pull down menu, not instead of it. As there are working examples, I doubt it will be that difficult to mock up. This isn't like a new fangled idea--so making it isn't as difficult. It should have been in In Design a long, long time ago... All the Adobe Products need one. I wouldn't even mind if it was an external program that worked with the suite. (Similar to Font Book for Mac with the Coco Products)

  • Check-In of Brush, Symbol, Swatch Libraries from AI not working as expected

I am developing a custom connector for Adobe Drive. A large number of our users are Adobe Illustrator users.  From within AI, the user can save a Brush, Symbol, or Swatch library as a file to one of our Adobe Drive shared folders.  When this happens, the user sees the standard Check-In dialog prompting for the version comment.  After entering the comment and pressing "OK", the file is saved locally to the Adobe Drive folder, but my connector's CheckInHandler.execute() method is never getting called.  In other words, the user expectation is that the Swatch, Symbol, etc. library file has been checked into our system, but it never is.  To actually check in the file I have to open the Adobe Drive folder in Windows Explorer and check-in the file from the right-click menu.  This problem behavior only exists for the Library files.  I can save/check-in new and updated versions of the main AI file into our Adobe Drive folders as expected (e.g., using the File -> Check In menu command).
    So my questions are:
    1) Is this behavior reproducible by others and/or is it a known issue?  It's been reproduced consistently in-house.
    2) What is the intended behavior for saving Brush/Symbol/Swatch library files to Adobe Drive folders from within Adobe Illustrator?  It seems like it should either not prompt for a Version Comment, forcing the user to check-in from Explorer/Finder, or (ideally) would prompt for a comment and complete the check-in process like it does for the main AI file.  To show the Version Comment dialog but not actually have the file get checked in is confusing to the user.
    3) Any suggestions for solving or working around the issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

As a follow-up, I tested this scenario with the SDK's sample FTP connector and saw the same behavior: upon saving the Library file to the Adobe Drive folder from within AI, I am prompted for a Version Comment but the file is never checked in to the repository (i.e., the FTP server).

  • Downloading brushes from a collaborated library.

Hi I am using a pc, I had a previous adobe account and had made a bunch of brushes and shapes I signed in to that account and clicked collaborate, I entered my new adobe account email and sent the invite. I signed back into my new account and it shows that I have an invite to have access to a library, I accepted the invite. But I do not know how to use the brushes or shapes in my library. It just gives me pictures of each brush and shape and the only action I can do is collaborate. I don't know how to download them to my current library so that I am able to use them. Any help would be great! Thanks!!

Click on each one in your custom brushes you want to keep, this put these in your brushes palette,
Save your brushes palette as the same filename & location as your custom brushes.

  • Can i adjust pressure sensitivity options for tools other then paint brush?

Greetings all, i'm new to Photoshop elements and this forum, could someone help me with this problem please!!!!!!
Is there a way to adjust the pressure sensitve options opacity, scatter, hue jitter e.t.c for tools other then the paint brush such as the dodge and burn tool?
I'm wanting to use the dodge and burn tools with say a chalk brush but set the pressure sensitivity of my tablet to opacity, i can do this for the paint brush by using the tablet options drop down menu but the option doesn't seem to be avaiable for  tools such as the eraser, dodge and burn and smudge tools.
I've tryed the brushes from the Pressure Sensitive set but there is no chalk brush in the Pressure Sensitive brush set that effects opacity and you can't adjust what settings are effected for each pressure sensitive brush when using tools other then the Paint Brush.
Can anyone help me with this as i've tryed everything i can think of.

I guess the easiest way would be to select the paint brush tool
and using the brush of your choice, set those options you want
    and save the brush.
Then when you select a tool such as the burn tool, select your brush.
The one option that won't apply is the hue jitter (you can't use hue jitter or
color dynamics in the full version of photoshop either for most other tools
    aside from the brush tool)

  • Additional options for Photoshop Brushes pop-up window

I created Brushes to add borders or edges arround images and for every brush 4 different angles: 0, 90, 180, 270 because it is much easier to change from right click pop-up window or using , and . keyboard shortcuts then opening Brush panel or to use Options Bar every single time. What I suggest is to add at least Flip X and Flip Y in right click pop-up window from Brush Tip Shape tab. It will be great to have and angle control and clicable icon (or keyboard shortcut) to set options for current Brush as for previous. Here I mean options like Wet Edges, Color Dynamics and so on. I like randomness of colors whith Color Dynamics and Air brush mode but colors changing too fast, can you add some control over it for example to press some key and slow down display of color randomness. I know what to do to save every brush with preferred options but I plan to share this brushes and those preferences may not be very exciting for other users.

Often, the feedback/feature request sub-forms are disbanded and shut down, when a new version is released. Not sure if that happened here, but if the last post is close to the CS 5.5 releases, then it might explain it. In a case like this, should the sub-form be closed, it would be nice to get a sticky telling everyone that it is now closed.
    Just thinking,
