Save a single clip out of a file of multiple clips

Hello:  I have a VHS video tape that was used to archive multiple scenes shot by a DV camera.  I can load the entire VHS tape as a single file into Adobe Premiere Elements 12 and have cut the source into multiple clips.  What I would like to do now is save each clip as a separate .avi file so that I can then import same to the Organizer.
I have found the Export item under the File menu hoping that is the command that will enable me to save (export) clips as separate .avi files but I can't understand how to enable it.
Am I on the right track with the Export command or are there other ways to save separate clips as individual .avi files to my PC?
Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Short version...
Premiere Elements 12 File Menu/Export is now for Title only and only after the copy of the Title is highighted in Expert workspace Project Assets.
"Project file" was never part of the equation with File Menu/Export even when it included Movie besides Title choice. So I am not sure where John is coming from when he write "File-Export is for your project file....." The project file is a .prel file; the title file is a .prtl file.
Details About Exports AVI Files from Premiere Elements 12/12.1...
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? For now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. I will also assume that you are in a NTSC and not PAL setup.
The File Menu/Export/Movie has not been a feature in Premiere Elements since Premiere Elements 7. If you want to export the Timeline as  DV AVI standard or widescreen in Premiere Elements 12/12.1, then you use Publish+Share/Computer AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard or DV NTSC Widescreen.
Important: Publish+Share/Computer/ has many choices. It might appear that there are only 3 choices, that is, Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. But there are more. AVI is further down the list and has to be scrolled to to see. The scroll bar in thin and to the right of the choices.
Premiere Elements does not allow for more than 1 export at a time. Exporting more than one at a time might be found in a free program such as MPEG Streamclip.
Premiere Elements does allow for selective export of Timeline content. The keys to success there involve the two "must do" steps
1. set the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span just the content to be exported
and
2. place a check mark next to "Share Work Area Bar Only" in the export settings.
The gray tabs of the Work Area Bar can be set by moving them in place with the mouse cursor or using shortcuts. For the shortcuts....
Move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the segment for export, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, hit the left bracket key [
Move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the segment for export, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, hit the right bracket key ]
Please review and consider and then we can discuss the above further if necessary.

  • Corrupted clip import from DV: cut into multiple clips, wrong date

After importing DV tapes into iMovie '09, especially older ones, many takes are wrongly cut into multiple clips, some having the correct recording date & time, others having the current date & time. I have a single take, 32 minutes, cut into 685 tiny clips! All out of order... It's almost impossible to puzzle them in the correct order (and I lack the time).
Can iMovie be set to disregard timestamp info from the tape, and simply put clips in the order they are received from the tape? I could easily set the date & time by hand, and even make it understand it's one take, but not if it's a clip puzzle... Help!

Can imovie HD run on 10.6? I tried to install it and it said I needed iLife 08 installed first.
    Yes. It works fine.
    You have 6.0.4, you want 6.0 > 6.0.3 ONLY. 6.0.4 looks for iLife '08.
You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY!
iMovie 6.0.4 requires that iLife 08 is already installed. iMovie 6.0 thru iMovie 6.0.3 has no such requirement. There are no known functional differences between 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. If you install iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk it will probably be version 6.0 or 6.01. However you can update the software to 6.0.3 from Apple's Web site.

    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/imoviehd603.html
If you want to have both iMovie 06 and iLife 09 (and most do) just install iMovie 06 first, then iLife 09. You are now UN-STOPPABLE!
Also when you install iLife 08 or 09, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09.

  • Selecting multiple clips sealed off by other clips

    Hi,
Im trying to figure out a way to select multiple clips in a track which is sealed off on all sides by other clips, so I can't just click and drag.
I want to select the middle clips, without Ctrl+Click on all of the necessary ones.

Click and Drag  Lasso does the same thing without having to Select a Tool.
Locking and unlocking is 2 or 3 clicks.  About 2 seconds. You save one click  from not having to select a special tool to do this.
How fast do you want to be able to do this and what will you do with the time you save?

  • Applying Effect to Multiple Clips?

    Hi,
Is there a way within Final Cut Express to apply a single effect such as Chroma Keyer to multiple clips? I've seen this done with Final Cut Pro but can't seem to replicate it in FCE.
    Thanks for your help.

You do it exactly the same way you could do it in FCP. Drag the filter onto multiple selected clips, or copy a clip with the filter and use the paste attributes function.

  • Necessary to save every single file automatically in Multitrack Mode?

    Using Adobe Audition 3:
Remember in Adobe Audition 1 where if you right-clicked on a wave file inside multitrack view and deleted it, it was in fact deleted?  Why did they go backwards and make it so that every single file recorded was saved automatically?
I record 6 separate inputs at the same time in my sessions.  Then, I send the XML file along with all the waves to my engineer where he opens it up in Nuendo and masters it.  The problem is, this ridiculous feature of saving EVERYTHING makes it so I have to go through all the waves that were deleted from the session and delete them from the session folder manually.  This is an unnecessary time vampire.
Think about it, if I have a mix of takes I deleted, and takes I left in the session both in the same folder... I have to delete the files I don't want from the folder before zipping it up with the session file to send off to the engineer.  I have to sort through them, or else I am sending both deleted and desired session files to my engineer (unnecessary upload time with extra useless files).
So, is there a way to get Adobe Audition 3 to delete the files I delete from within multitrack mode so I do not have to delete them manually after sessions?  It really creates this whole other workload of sifting through files to assemble my folder to be master-ready.
I personally cannot fathom why a program would be altered to save everything considering the option to delete it is present, yet the files can only be deleted manually.

Okay, background: They didn't go backwards at all - they went forwards in the way most people wanted. Previously, all files were written to a temp file, and only saved when you'd finished recording. This was an almightly PITA for several reasons, not the least of them being that a power failure at the wrong point meant that you lost everything. Also, it put very real limitations on what could happen when you stopped recording in a session - a restart couldn't happen until you'd saved the previous temp file.
So what happens now is direct-to-disk recording in Multitrack. Gets around all those problems completely.
But, if causes an 'opportunity' with takes. This problem with deleting unwanted ones has been around for a while, and is based on not trusting you to know exactly what you are doing! What it comes down to is that deleting takes has to be a deliberate action on your part, not a default option of deleting the previous one when you record over it, just in case you didn't realise that you really wanted it after all... And because they were already recorded as files, removing them from the multitrack display doesn't get them out of the Files pane, and doesn't get them off your drive either.
The only way around this that I'm aware of is to use MediaSweeper. Just make sure that you send Suite Spot a donation...

  • I am trying to figure out how to save/share only a clip out of an entire project.

I am trying to figure out how to save/share only a clip out of an entire project. I do not want to delete the rest of the timeline as I want to cut/copy out several smaller clips and save/share them as their own files.  I am working on a copy of my original video, and I know I can just bring the project timeline down repeatedly to isolate this clip by deleting all else, but feel there must surely be a simple way to do this.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
For now I will generalize the principles involved. If more details needed then, please supply the details of your situation and Timeline track placement.
You would place the gray tabs of the WorkArea Bar to span just the area to be exported.
    The tabs are set...
Move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the segment, hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as you hit the left bracket key [
    then
Move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the segment, hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as you hit the right bracket key ]
The critical step is to make sure that you have a check mark next to the "Share Work Area Bar Only" option in the export dialog (if the dialog has that option).
Please review and remember that the answers are in the details.
    Thanks.

  • Can I Save a Single .AI Document As Multiple Files, Seperated by the Page Tiling?

There must be a way to save or output a single Adobe Illustrator file  into multiple files based on the "pages" I have created in the  document?
For example, if I have tiled 10 tabloid-sized  pages onto a single Illustrator CS3 .AI file, is it possible to save  the file in a manner that will allow all of those tiled pages to be  saved as a seperated or individual files?
I guess it  would be a similar concept to how in newer versions (like CS4) you can  export multiple jpegs of an illustrator file that contains several  artboards and it automatically assigns a number suffix to the filename  since multiple files were outputted from the single ai file.
Any  help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

Please post your question in the Illustrator forum. This forum is for suite specific issues only.

  • Why do I have to File Save twice before the Save menu is grayed out?

Open a file into Photoshop CC
    Add a Levels layer
    Click File>Save
The Save menu is still available when you click File. Doing another File>Save make the Save menu become grayed out (like it should the first time).
    System info:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.2.1 20141014.r.257 2014/10/14:23:59:59 CL 987299  x64
Operating System: Mac OS 10.10.1 (the problem has occurred since Mac OS 10.8.x)
    Thanks for any help.
    Daniel

    I have OSX 10.10.1 and CC 2014.
So I will open a PSD with an adjustment layer.
I turn off and on the "eyeball" in the layers panel. It counts as a change.
If you look at your document tab, you see a star at the end of the filename. It shows you made changes to  the file.
File > Save would remove that star and File > Save does dim on my Macbook.
If you are seeing it twice, the Preferences file may be corrupt. I suggest a reset.
Macintosh - CMD-SHIFT-OPTION immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
If that doesn't work uninstall/reinstall CC 2014 and updates'
Let me know how it went and mark the answer correct only if this solved your problem.

  • How do I save and share short clips of a video file

How do I cut clips out of a longer video file to post on FB or YouTube in 2-3 minute clips

    jthoma8318
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running?
You do not need to bother with in and out points to do this.
Position the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span the Timeline content that you want to upload to Facebook
or YouTube via the Premiere Elements feature. Then in the sharing section of the program - Facebook or YouTube export settings, make sure to have
a check mark next to "Share Work Area Bar Only". Both these steps are required to get the selective export.
Only this morning, I prepared this screenshot for a Premiere Elements 10 user for an QuickTime export
There are two ways to set the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar....
    a. with mouse cursor move them into place
    or
    b. use shortcuts...move the Timeline Indicator to the start of the segment that you want and, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, hit the left bracket key [   ....then move the Timeline Indicator to the end of the segment that you want and, as you hold down the Alt key, hit the right bracket key ]
Some exports do not have the "Share Work Area Bar Only" option in the export settings. Facebook and YouTube are two exports that do..
For YouTube is your export within the file size of 2 GB...your 2 or 3 minute clips appear to be in the duration limit for the feature within Premiere Elements.

  • Can I save a single image as several file names in one go.

I know this sounds like an unsual question, but I want to take an image (say a logo) and save that image multiple times (could be 1000 times), but each time as a different file name. ( I have a commercial reason why I dont want that image to be named the same for each entry to a database.)
I already have the database of filenames, but do not want to "save as" 1000 times in terms of my time.
So is there a way to take an image and then  "save as" then apply up to 1000 file names, so they are all saved in one go.
I do know these images will all look the same.
    thanks

    Hi,
No, this is not possible in PSE.

  • How do I copy editted clips from one project file to another?

I am working on a project. At one point, before I finished I "saved as" with another name to give me a backup. After working on it for a while I found that a section of the video had gotten out of place (a lot of clips and layers). I would like to copy this portion from the other project file I had saved. I can't figure it out. Both projects have the same clips in the project bins. I am using Premiere 6.5, with a Pinnacle DV500 DVD capture card. My computer is a duel P3 800, 512RAM, 40Gig Sys. drive and 480 Gig RAID 0. Please Help!

Throw away everything you don't want to copy, save as a new project, import the new project into the other one.
