"save" always does "save as"

Hi. I just purchased the new iWork '09 and i was testing it out. I like to periodically save (command-s)(or just hit save on the "file" drop-down menu), but even after I labeled the document and saved it onto my desktop, everytime I click "save" it try's to "save as" and wants me to save it as a new document. Has anyone experienced this problem and know how to fix it?

What was your original document? If it was a Word document and you try to save to Word format, that is definitely the behaviour. There may be some other similar cases.

  • When save PDFs, always does "Save As." help please!

    Hi, I recently downloaded Adobe Reader XI. For PDFs that are already saved to my computer, whenever I comment on them (add text) and click Save, Adobe Reader always interprets that as "Save As" for the file and wants me to give it a name even though it already has one. When I give it the name it already has, Adobe Reader asks me if I want to replace the existing file. Does anyone know how to change this?? This is the case each time the PDF has been commented on. It is so very annoying. There aren't protections or locks on the PDFs that I 'm aware of. Thanks!

    It is a part of the Sandboxing feature, to enable straight saving to certain directories you can manually approve/whitelist them.
    Edit - Preferences - Security (enhanced) - Add Folder Path.

  • Adobe 9 plugin save function does not always work

    This may not be a problem with Adobe Reader or Internet Explorer, but my credit card company says it is, so I need to look.
    When I try to get my on-line statements from a particular credit card company, a new IE window with Adobe Reader running "underneath" comes up fine. When I press the "Save" icon (the floppy disk icon) nothing happens.
    I have done this recently with another similar site (brokerage account) successfully, so my version of Reader and/or IE7 do not seem to be the problem. Note that in all cases the bank/broker do not give direct access to the pdf file, which is probably for security reasons -- in other words, "right-click/save-as" does not work for on-line statements. Instead they run a server-end script which "presents" the pdf to the new browser window. All of this indicates that they have control over the security and therefore disallow me from saving locally.
    If anyone knows of a setting I need to make, or if they can confirm that the problem is on the server end, I could use the help. I want to stay paperless, so you'll be helping the environment if you help me :)
    My alternative is to print the statement, then scan it and throw it out, which is obviously ridiculous :)

    I am having much the same problem as the OP and Martin.
    Currently I am running Reader 9 on a Vista computer. This is a new computer and I was able to save my credit card statement in January. Then after I saved my statement in January, I believe I upgraded Reader at some point, and when I tried to save my February statement it wouldn't work.
    I have tried to right click on the document, and there is no "Save As..." option. But like someone else posted, it's just a long gibberish type name in IE address bar.
    I also tried printing the document to a file, but that does not work either. It fails to bring up the dialog box asking the usual queations. I can print the document on my printer.
    I have spent several sessions with the credit card company website tech support people. Per their suggestions I have uninstalled and reinstalled Reader 9, they also had me delete cookies, change popup blocker settings, add security certificates, etc.
    None of that worked, and they tell me it's an Adobe problem.
    Like other posters I can save this same statement using my laptop with an earlier version of Reader. In my case Reader 7.
    Like Martin posted, and the credit card tech people suggested, I believe this is a Reader 9 problem.
    I hope someone has a fix.
    Thanks,

  • Trying to Save (menu or cmd-s) a file always opens Save As dialog

    Hi,
    First post (hello forums) - any help would be much appreciated. Please be kind if this is a no-brainer for the gurus out there.
    I'm on a Mac G5, OSX 10.4 running CS3 - upgraded from PS7 about 3 weeks ago.
    All was humming along nicely until this morning. I opened a file I had been working on (without problem) yesterday, made a few edits, hit cmd-s, and the save As dialog popped up. Okay, no worries -- overwrite, and move on. Made a few more edits, cmd-s, and again the Save As dialog pops up. Cancelled that dialog and tried the save command from the menu -- same thing -- get the Save As dialog. Hmmm... Closed that file, created a fresh one, made some simple edits, and tried to Save -- again the Save As dialog opens.
    Not a huge deal - I can always overwrite, but save should just save a working file surely.
    I've scoured the interwebs looking for any ideas, but nothing.
    Again, any help would be much appreciated.

    Hey,
    Thanks for the speedy response. Its been .psd's so far, but I haven't tried any other file type. Edits have been anything really -- adding layers to new files, adding layers to existing layered files, adding shapes, adding text to a layer - just about any alteration that would normally 'un-grey' the save option in the menu.
    The 'Layers' and the 'Embed Color Profile' boxes are checked in the save As dialog.
    Thanx.

  • File Save Dialog does not show web folders

    Hi.
    My system is SAP ECC 6.0. From custom abap program, I need to be able to navigate to a sharepoint folder and save a file to it. I call METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>file_save_dialog for this. I have already mapped/added the SharePoint site (ex. http://abc/xyz/) to My Network Places. However, when I run my program, the File Save Dialog does not show the web folders in the said sharepoint site. Any clue to what I'm missing here? In WiinExplorer, I have no issue navigating/accessing the web folders.
    Thanks in advance.

    project manager
    um, yeah.
    Should not need the project manager simply to see new files added to a directory in a Open/Save dialog window since last opening the app.
    I did a scan, a extended scan, opened all the little turn down arrows of the
    full path to the directory I knew there to be the new files and yes, Logic
    shows them there in the "Project manager".
    BUT Logic still does not show the files in the Open/Save dialog windows.
    This is strange because even simple app like TextEdit can show
    new files in it's Open/Save dialog function windows without the need of
    a project manager.
    I have to quit and re-launch each time to see any new files?

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07 freezes intermittently on Windows 8.1 when doing "Save As"

    Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07 freezes intermittently on Windows 8.1 when doing "Save As". This occurs when opening a file from Outlook or from the web. I have IE 11 and Microsoft Office 365 installed on a Toshiba Satellite P50. Windows and Office have the latest updates. There are no error messages. I can clear Adobe Reader with Task Manager. Opening the PDF again has the same result in that it may hang or work correctly when doing a “Save As” again. This occurs intermittently when charging the laptop or when on battery.

    Some things to try...
    Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
    Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
    If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
    It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

    how do i convert a pdf into a word file, i have tried doing save as?

    Hi Jack,
    What version of Acrobat are you using?
    You might need to go to File> Save As Other> Microsoft Word or choose 'Adobe PDF printer' from the File menu.
    Is save as option not functioning correctly? Do you get any specific error?
    Please let me know.

  • Reader does a "save as" instead of a "save" on first save of an enabled form

    I have a form created using LC Designer and extended using Acrobat (Save As Other --> Reader Extended PDF --> Enable More Tools).
    When I enter data using Adobe Reader and File-->Save, it behaves as though I had selected "Save As".  If I want to overwrite the file, it prompts me to confirm.  From then on, when I save it behaves as expected (i.e. it automatically overwrites the file with my changes).  If I close the file and open it again, then make changes, then save, it does a "save as" again.
    I don't want it to handle "save" as a "save as".  Anyone know a way to avoid this behaviour?

    Yes, when I enter data in the form using Reader I am forced to use Save As.  The Save button causes an error message saying the form is either read only or already open. Shouldn't the Save button just save the file?

  • FileDialog in SAVE mode does not throw file access error

    Hi,
    We are using FileDialog to SAVE and LOAD files.
    If a file is selected to which the user has no access, then LOAD dialog throws an
    error, but SAVE dialog does not.
    Have I skipped something ??
    Below is a sample code :
    import java.util.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class TestClass extends JFrame {
    public TestClass() {
    setSize(400, 400);
    JPanel l_objPanel = new JPanel();
    getContentPane().add(l_objPanel);
    final JButton l_objButton = new JButton("FileOpen");
    l_objPanel.add(l_objButton);
    l_objButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent p_objEvent) {
    FileDialog l_objDlg = new FileDialog(TestClass.this, "Save now", FileDialog.SAVE);
    l_objDlg.show();
    public static void main( String[] strArgs ) {
    try {
    UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName());
    } catch(Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    TestClass l_objDlg = new TestClass();
    l_objDlg.show();

    The bug you pointed out is pretty different: JWS should work offline if no network connection is available, but no such behaviour is provided, never the less granted, if your server is down. No matter what your 'web-distributed' app is (ASP, SaaS, SOA, RIA, cloud, ...), you may have it work without a network, but no architectural pattern would ever remotely consider it should run if the providing server is down (and is not redirecting or, at least, sending some 'manageble' error).

  • Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? and...

    1. Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? in other words, all Lr settings, ratings, Picks, keywords, etc?

    2. does Lr automatically read the metadata from those XMP files when the images are imported into a different catalog?

    Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? in other words, all Lr settings, ratings, Picks, keywords, etc?
    Everything, with the exception of flags, color labels, collection membership, and stacking.
    Does Lr automatically read the metadata from those XMP files when the images are imported into a different catalog?
    Yes. Note that XMP files are created for raw files only; for other image formats (JPEG, TIFF, PNG, DNG), the metadata is stored within the file itself. Unfortunately, LR doesn't save metadata for videos (either in XMP sidecars or the video file).

    I always chose "save & quit" when I close and sometimes all my history is gone when I open Firefox again. Why? It just happened again. Can I get that history back?

    You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
    Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
    Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

  • Mail- Save Icon does not work

    I have noticed with mail since 10.5.2 that the small save icon on the email document does not save attachments / does not work anymore. I have to go to file menu and select "Save Attachments"
    Is this a bug or what ??

    John,
    I only now saw your first post. Have you looked in Mail Downloads folder to see if the attachments were saved there? In Mail 3.x, a quick click of the Save button would be expected to result in an unannounced save to that downloads folder. However, a click and brief hold on the Save button would be expected to result in a Save dialogue.
    More info, please.

    Every time I save a file "save as" my folders, lists etc. come up scrambled. I want them to be alphabetical every time. How can this be set? or fixed? I do NOT want to use Recent or click "set up details" everytime and then alphabetize the list, because this takes too long and too many clicks.
    Yes, I want to be asked where to save a file every time.
    I am using XP

    Sure EVERY TiME you save you can click on details then name and then 3rd click to bring it up alphabetical ( which may be backwards Z-A) then save. And then the next time you save you can do again. I want it to always, forever come up alphabetical like everything does on my computer when i save things.
