Save As.. and Server Based Homes

Hi there
I'm setting up a new Client/Server system with OSX 10.6.2 on both sides.
There is one "problem" in using server based homes:
When you have a document opend (QXP7, QXP8, IDD CS3, IDD CS4....) from the server, and you choose "Save as" from the menu, you allways end up in the "Documents" folder of you home directory. This also happens when you want to place pictures in the mentioned applications.
Local accounts don't show this issue.
Is there any cure for this problem?

I'm confused by your post. What do you mean by "logged on locally"? When you're using RDC from a Mac to a Windows workstation or server you're logging on remotely.
If you're attempting to log in to the server via RDC (remotely) and on the server itself (locally) then you will be forced to select one logon and the other will be locked or disconnected. This is expected.
Can you clarify how and where you're logging in?

When you install a new server and you want to migrate users to server-based home directories and they currently have local home directories (with iCal, iTunes, iPhone, etc.), what is the process?
Will their local data be auto-moved to the server? Will it be deleted? What?

I went through this many years ago. Here's what I did...
#1: Create the user in Open Directory.
#2: Log in to the local account on the computer.
#3: Using "Connect to Server..." mount the network home on the client Mac.
#4: Copy all data to the same folders on the network home.
#5: Delete the local account.
Now when the user logs in with network credentials their network home will have all their stuff. Some preference files may need to be recreated but that's about it.

I'm new to .pdf development in Acrobat. I'm trying to create a form which allows users to fill in data, then save a copy of the form to a directory and file name which will be based upon several of the fields in the document. Is this method of saving possible? I've tried a script but can't seem to make the process work.

It's possible, but the code that does the actual save (using the doc.saveAs JavaScript method) needs to be in a folder-level JavaScript file and further in a trusted function and app.beginPriv/app.endPriv block:

You can make them as mandatory for the Sefvice items using filed selection , instead of making them as display using field selction for Document types
In the Customizing of account assignement category being used for Sefvices you can specify IR is binding, so that it always is ticked in the PO.
Similary in the Vendor master you can flag the Service ased IV flag, to get copied in the PO.

The server is "home server" and it is not always access (open).

Based on my knowledge, the default receive connectors are automatically created when the Exchange server is installed. Then the internal and outbound mails can delivered properly through Exchange server. After we create send connector and add public MX record
and A record on the public DNS server, the inbound mails can be delivered. And we can set the send connector with MX record, then the inbound mails are directly delivered by Exchange server.

Is there an on-screen touch feature for iPad 2 that will save wear and tear on the home/escape button? If so, what's it called and where can I buy it?

And if you are running iOS 5, you can enable Multitasking Gestures in the General settings. This enables you to quit out of an app by just pinching with four or five fingers. That saves a lot of use of the Home button.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Design time and Server in separate Oracle Homes (QuickStart)

there seems to be a contradiction between the QuickStart guide from JEAN-PIERRE DIJCKS and the 9.2 Install and Config Guide on whether separate Oracle_Homes are needed if you install both on the same machine.
The QuickStart Guide says to use the same home, but the Install and Config Guide says to use separate homes (p 2-4 and 2-18).

You can install the design time and server components in the same home on the same machine. The Install Guide is incorrect and needs to be updated. I'll file a documentation bug.

Safari and Server Admin slow to launch on a Network Home Directory

I have an issue with Safari and Server Admin that started two days ago. When you attempt to launch Safari or Server Admin while logged into a Network Home Directory on an Intel Mac it will bounce about 10 times, stop bouncing, and then about a minute later launch and act normal. If you quit and reopen Safari you have to wait again. Server Admin exhibits similar behavior, although the delay is longer and there are long pauses while using the program. The network home folder is on an afp share on an Intel XServe w/ 10.5.5 and 4gb of ram.
Troubleshooting steps already done:
1. Same intel mac with a local user, Safari and Server Admin launches normally.
2. Same intel mac with a portable home directory user, Safari and Server Admin launches normally.
3. Same intel mac with a different network home directory user, Safari and Server Admin have the long delay.
4. Different intel mac with a network home directory user, Safari and Server Admin have the long delay.
5. Different intel mac with a local user, Safari and Server Admin launches normally.
6. Different intel mac with a portable home directory user, Safari and Server Admin launches normally.
7. PPC mac with same network home directory user, Safari and Server Admin launches normally.
8. Checked forward and reverse DNS lookups for the home directory servers.
9. Checked entire DNS zone for forward and reverse lookups.
10. These exact same symptoms began occurring the same day at another site I manage with a separate DNS and Open Directory structure in another city.
11. All other programs appear to behave normally as far as I've been able to tell.
I have the feeling that something strange is going on with DNS and Server Admin and Safari are trying to resolve something, time out, then try to act normally. I don't know why it would just affect intel macs. In addition, there were no setting changes or DNS alterations that happened that I am aware of. These symptoms are also happening at another site that I manage with a completely separate DNS and Open Directory structure. I'm puzzled, any help would be appreciated.

Upgraded to 10.5.6 and the issue disappeared. I don't know what what wrong, but I think it was DNS related...

Cannot login to network account (leopard client and server)

Up until now, I have used local accounts on my leopard server. I want to start experimenting with OD prior to implementing. I created a new user account in the /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 domain, and have bound my leopard client to the server using directory utility. On the login screen, "Network Accounts Available" has a green button to the left of it. When I try and login to the server account, the login window just shakes. At first, I could enter the password and then it would prompt me for a new password. Trying to enter a new password would not allow me to login. I went back to server admin and disabled the "require new password" setting, (as well as the other good security policies)...
I have also reset the password in WGM, and made sure to disable all the security stuff there too...
Lastly, I have deleted the server in directory utility, rebooted, then added it back in, and rebooted again...
I still cannot login to the server account, the login screen just shakes
Does anyone have an idea of what settings and or logs I can check to try and narrow down what is going on?

to close out the thread, I have working dns on my network, but I did not have dns enabled on my server. I enabled the dns service and entered just the info for my server, then assigned my server and client to use the server's ip addy as the primary dns server. Next, I created the home directory.
Once both steps were done, I was able to log in from my client to my server based account...
FYI-I found a document on afp548.com called "leopard server: advanced setup, rsync backup and automated reporting" that walks you right thru the process...Here is the link, it's a very useful doc....

Your More system details list show that you run the latest Firefox 4.0.1 version.<br />
You can check that via Help > About Firefox and on the Help > Troubleshooting Information page.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

If you posted from another computer then download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Pdf's freeze using Reader in server based Mac 10.6 or 10.5

I support several hundred iMac's for a school district. We have a site license for Adobe CS4 (and CS3). The user's accounts are server based. The programs are installed on the local computer. If I create a local account and log into that local account all functions normally. However, if I or anyone else for that matter logs in using the server based account, pdf's freeze. Also, when logged into the server, if you try to install a new version of Reader it errors looking for a disk. What the program is really looking for is the users' local account which of course doesn't exist locally because I am logged into the server. I've had Apple out to look at the server and local iMacs. They say all is functioning normally and this is a known Adobe problem. Apparently the program can't find the users account on the server. I have used a workaround with Preview and Word but that's not a solution. Any ideas?

Thanks for the thought, Barbara B. Not sure if this counts, but emailed the file to myself [different email account, same computer] but it would not play as an email attachment. Any suggestions for a web upload where I can test your suggestion? Seems like there should be a different save option other than IMAGES ONLY but that is the only option I'm given.

Command line creating of users fails to correctly set afp:// based home dir

i'm using a script to make users. they come and go quite a lot, don't want to be using a mouse all day long.
i thought it would be simple. dscl /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 -create /Users/user1 NFSHomeDirectory /network/servers/some.server.here/path
with some other part of the script creating the home directory and setting it up for use.
this only gets me a nfs based home directory, which doesn't seem to work. when i make them in WGM, i get an afp based one. (afp://some.server.here/group1/user1)
what's the trick? how can i create an OD entry with dscl which results in the same outcome as using WGM?

Help! Internet and Server failure despite full connectivity

My internet access just completely stopped working recently. No matter where I am, neither Safari or Chrome will connect to the internet. I have tried to get on the internet using my home wifi and my campus internet and neither works even though it works for others. AirPort also shows full bar strength and says I am connected. Ethernet and FireWall say not connected. Network Diagnostics show that everything is green, except Internet and Server, which are red and say failed. IPv6 is set to "using DHCP" and "automatically" and the dns servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. I have tried renewing DHCP lease and turning my computer on and off several times. I've emptied cache and all that. Also, nothing is checked under the proxies tab.
Someone please please please help me! I don't know how to fix this problem.

You MUST use the (Apply) button or close the window and save changes for these to take effect. Even at that, it sometimes takes a Restart to work properly.
If no joy from that, try using (Assist Me) > (Assistant) ...
...and set it up again from scratch, being sure to specify a new "Location", NOT Automatic.

Database and Server Report

Hi,
I want to assist my friend (he is same like me, newbie in oracle) to give a report on health of oracle database and server; which is running in his small software development and data feeding company. There are around
1. 50 users,
2. windows XP professional,
3. Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 – Production,
4. one database, No Archive Mode, oracle home is : c:\oracle\ora92 and database is stored at D:\ORACLE\oradata\orcl, 3 control files, 3 redo groups and 11 dbfs
5. 2.27 GB is free space on the drive of oracle home,
6. more than 1 GB RAM is in the system,
7. <what else more; I should describe, please let me know>
He has to submit a report on current status, health, performance etc. of oracle database and server. How should we design and get the data, please guide me.
