Save as copies files

I regularly use 'save as' to start a new project based on an old one. Prior to 8.0.1, this would not copy audio files, but refer to the old files. Whatever has changed is going to eat up hard disc space every time. Is there a way to deal with this? I have not changed any options in the save dialog.

Okay. It seems that any files that were in the "Audio Files" folder from the original project are copied to the new project's "Audio FIles" folder. Any associated files that were not in that folder are not copied. This was not the case with 8.0.0.
In 8.0.0., checking "Include Assets" did not copy these files. Files were only copied according to the "Advanced Options"
Perhaps this new way makes more sense to somebody, but to me, it is a big negative.
The organizational pluses that I realized in 8.0.0 have been negated. I have to go back to my old ways, or waste enormous amounts of drive space with duplicated files!

When you perform a Save As in Dreamweaver CS5 it creates the new file but also keeps the old file open. I have found this to cause issues because I sometimes start editing the wrong file. In previous versions when you do a Save As the file you are working with simply becomes the new file. You don;t have two of the same file open. Is there a way to change the way this functions? No, there is no way to change it. This behaviour was introduced in Dreamweaver CS4 in response to feedback from many users.
The idea is that you make changes to the original file, and then select Save As. The changes are saved in the new file that opens, and discarded in the old file.
I have to admit that I still haven't got used to it even after a couple of years, but that's the way a lot of testers liked it. I find the best approach is to close the original file as soon as the new one opens.

'Save Medadata to file' - but only some?

Hello, I read an Adobe Lightroom discussion from November 2011. I am looking to start using Lightroom (have been using capture nx2) but need something answered please:
It stated that 'Save Medadata to File' will copy most but not all of the metadata changes that you have made within Lightroom', which got my attention, and seemed a bit worrying.
It suggested that this problem was for both proprietary raw formats with xmp sidecar files, and dng files (also TIFF etc I think). I also understand, or think I do, that it's only a problem
when you export from Lightroom to another editing program (or photoshop at least). I also read something similar on a recent post here, but I didn't find it very clear.
The problem is that some things are not included in the metadata write command....the develop history, stacks, collection membership, flags, virtual copies.
All of these things, apart from maybe flags, I need, and can't imagine that I can't use these important options, so I really must be missing something. And surely I would need to save the
metadata to file to send images to NIK software etc for further editing. I read it that if you stay in Lightroom there is no problem, as I think the catalogue has all the metadada, but that
won't happen, or not all the time.
I don't understand this, and can't quite believe it, so would be most grateful for advice, thanks

I don't know why. Perhaps you might be able to clarify why this might be a problem, if that's what it is - I mean in what circumatance(s)
might this be a problem?
I just presumed that it might prevent me, within Lightroom to use these features - or did they mean that they would just not be available
to someone I might send the files to, or whatever?
I will just need to edit files in Lightroom (I will be changing my NEFs to DNGs, editing in Lightroom, using NIK software/maybe other
software too, and sending photos to a website such as Zenfolio, and also to a printer or whatever)
I suppose you could say that the post I read alluded to a problem, but didn't explain (or I didn't understand) what the effects would be, at
least as far as I am concerned). I mean they didn't say 'this is, or could be, a problem because.....'

How to restrict the ability to save a PDF file in Acrobat.

Hello ! This is my first topic, evaluating to acquire Acrobat Professional 8, and I am asked if possible to restrict the ability to save a pdf file, when users are reading the file with Acrobat Reader. We are into creating a in-house document accessible to all users internally, using Acrobat Reader. I was able to restrict the printing, but I am unable to restict the saving of the file.
Any one knows if this possible ? or not?

Once they open it on their machine, they have a copy on that machine. They can simply move that copy to where ever they desire, making copies as they go. You can restrict copying content (though not full proof), printing, and changing the document, but not the physical file itself. Be careful with security and the assumption it fixes all your issues. PDF security is not all that secure. If you need higher levels of security, they you have to use the DRM (I think that is it) at a pretty cost.

Feature Request: save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.

Please have function to save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.
This would allow us to write cross-platform plugins that can assure data is up-to-date in the xmp, or modify xmp and have it reinstated in the catalog.
This would go nicely with the ability to save xmp for virtual copies, dng, and rgb formats.

Perhaps someone with direct experience with publishing to Smugmug will chime in. Short of that, some thoughts on your issues:
Should I not bother to "Save Metadata to File", this seems to be what is messing up the SmugMug publish service?
I very much doubt that it is messing up the publishing. What gets saved to the file from the catalog is independent of what gets exported. Saving metadata to the file is generally a good practice (in case you screw up your catalog backups). Many, perhaps most, users set the preference Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
I would have expected it to behave like an export which would write synonyms, exclude keywords that should be excluded, etc, which seems to work ok in point 6 above.

You may have done this already, but double-check: Right-click the Smugmug publishing service in the left-hand column of the Library, select Edit Settings, and in the Metadata section verify that you have Include: All Metadata set.
Did you download the Smugmug plugin from Smugmug? You might try this Smugmug plugin instead -- the author designed the publishing architecture of LR and has an excellent reputation.
Are the publish services more effort than they are worth? So I get SmugMug to work, what happens when I try Flickr?
I think many users find the publishing services are generally worthwhile. I publish regularly to Flickr (using the built-in Flickr plugin, which isn't completely reliable) and the Zenfolio plugin from Friedl.

How do I save an install file for Photoshop CS6

I need to get an install file for Photoshop CS6 (not CR) that I can use on a Windows PC that, due to security reasons, does
not have access to the internet. In the past I have been able to save the install file for Photoshop and/or Lightroom on my internet connected PC and then move it to the the target PC on a thumb drive or CD. But now with the CC and the new "Adobe Installer" I can't seem to see how to capture the install file.
Please let me know how to do this.

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

My itunes doesn't save new music files to the itunes media folder, even though I have ticked the box in the preferences telling it do so...???

Ok so, my itunes version is up to date, and I've located my itunes media folder... However, newly purchsed songs are not being backed up to the media folder, despite all the right options being ticked in the preferences box. This is immensly frustrating as I cannot back up my itunes library to a separate hard drive. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

iTunes stores media in the location set in preferences. If you have changed things then this won't necessarily be the same place it puts the library file and other files that also need to be backed up.
If you are content to have everything in one location then I suggest you consolidate it all into one place. Note this copies files, it doesn't move them, so you need ot make sure you have sufficient hard drive space wherever you select.

Technically you don't have to have it all in one location to back up. You just need to make sure you have gotten everything. I used to have iTunes on two separate drives but I would just make sure each drive was backed up 100% and I would know it was all backed up.

To change the screenshot capture location to a new place on your Mac, first think of a location that would serve you properly. We like to place ours in a "Screenshot" folder located inside of the User's "Pictures" folder. To change the location to this new location, open the Terminal and enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/[u]/Pictures/Screenshots/
Replace "[u]" with the name of the user on your system. Once you have entered this command, let's restart the screen capture utility by restarting the SystemUIServer by entering the following command:
killall SystemUIServer
You can optionally log out and back in instead of entering this second command, thus restarting the SystemUIServer. Once restarted, all screen captures taken from here on out will end up in your /Pictures/Screenshots/ folder in the User's home folder on your Mac.

Cancel cannot save to the file because it is in use

Hi guys,
From a couple of days ago i cannot export ANY pdf file in InDesign withouth the "cannot save to the file because it is in use by one or more background tasks". It seems there is a "temporary files" are saving. So the trick is to delete the file from the Finder and save the PDF again. It is annoying that i cannot replace the pdf directly with the same name.
Can i override this situation?
Any help or ideas?

Thanks, but I use publish/export settings with GPU hardware acceleration and flash version 11.2 (and 11.8) but nothing happening.
And why gif file is not all transparenty then I insert on lightblue background? It can't export good quality? Also I use Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Edge Animate. And nothing happening. I am a new user of LabVIEW. I'm using the Report Generation Toolkit VI's to do some customized reports.
1. how can I stop the report from popping up on the front panel when I initialize the report to be done. I know you can use "minimized" but that takes a few seconds to minimize and I would like to NOT see the report I'm generating pop-up at all.
2. I want use this customized report and constantly be saving data when a reset button is pushed. That is save the time stamp, the change in data etc on a continuous basis in 1 folder. Right now when I use the "Save Report to File. Vi" it over writes the previous data saved and all that data is lost. I need to be constantly saving all the data generated to be able to look back at it.

Which version of LV and Report Generation Toolkit are you using?
Assuming you are using LV 8.5 and RGT 1.1.2, then the attached screenshot should offer some help. Basically, you need to wire in the existing file as your template in order to not just overwrite the old data. You also need to make use of the series of 'Append' VIs that are in the toolkit.
