"Save As" crashes logic 9

Can anyone advise - using a tascam 1082 which is often the culprit but this just seems like a bug.

Try disconnectin the Tascam and switching to Built-in audio in Audio Preferences.
Does it still crash? Is this 9.0.1 or 9.0.0?

  • File Save As Crashes Logic

Attempting to File Save As in Logic crashes the program. Tried complete

I'm going bananas. I have the same symptoms, crashing on fileselectors on certain files. I tried the System Optimizer, I tried went looking for the inputmanagerfiles that apple told me to remove but I don't have them at all. I suspected Altiverb to be the cause and sent crash log and the whole d*mn project to them but so far they're not able to recreate the problem. Any clues? I've already trashed p.lists and caches and tried making a new user. It is definately a file-selector issue and it seemed to go away when I removed Altiverb. But now I've been able to generate the bug also without altiverb. Any thoughts?

  • How to get logic to save a crashed version???

Hi. Logic keeps crashing when i do things like move loads of audio a few bars later but never seems to save a crashed version. How do i make sure that a crashed version is saved everytime this happens?
    Thanks, Ben

which version of Logic do you have?

  • File Project Clean up is crashing Logic every time

File>Project>Clean up is crashing Logic every time. I just copied the project folder to a brand new external 1TB Glyph hard drive. Everything has been working fine. The project is very big, with about 120 tracks. I am sure that I have lots of files to clean up, as I have been working on this project for months, and I have auditioned probably hundreds of soft synths that I'm not using anymore. Simultaneously, the Universal Control software (that controls the Presonus Firestudio Tube software mixer) has gotten buggy and now freezes all the time. I've come to a stand still and am not sure where the problem is.

    Having this same problem now.
    Any luck with yours?
I found a workaround: I had a big project going with lots of different logic projects in one folder--thinking that would save time and space, because they referenced many of the same soundfiles.
I started doing cleanups after a while, and they started crashing logic, i got the spinning ball, the fan turned on immediately to high, activity monitor told me that logic wanted 100% of CPU time, and always had to force quit.
I took the latest project and created a new folder, stuck the project in it, opened the file, then saved, which copied all the soundfiles into that new folder. Then when i did a cleanup, it worked fine.
So it has something to do with, er, having too many projects in one folder? too many sound files referenced by too many different projects?
I don't know. But there exists this workaround.
    HTH.

  • Project Crashes Logic on open

I have a project that is crashing Logic 9.1.1 while loading plugins.
it gets to the same instance of "Amp Designer", I get the beach ball and have to force quit Logic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a clients project.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Before I saw these I was able to get around it by creating a new project and using the browser I opened the project that wouldn't load and imported all the tracks including plug-ins and I/O to the new project. hit save and was glad it worked.
There are 28 instances of amp designer in this project so I,m not sure how to find the culprit if this happens again. Yes I also had a unused Rewire track that i deleted.

  • Marquee selecting audio region then hitting DELETE crashing Logic

When I marquee select and audio region and hit delete it crashes Logic everytime. Is it a setting I have maybe unknowingly checked off that restricts the use of marquee? It happens when I marquee just audio AND audio+blank space. How am I supposed to trim as I go along?
OK, now it's working, but I'm not going back to the original place where it was happening. Is it possible that one little piece of audio gets corrupted?
This has happened a couple times just like this...I'm halfway through posting a message on this topic and it self-corrects, but then when it happens again I'm kind of scratching my head again.

    stooby3535 wrote:
After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

  • Loop Browser Crashes Logic

    I have "upgraded" from Logic 7 to 8 (actually a downgrade in my opinion) and then to Logic 9. Now in L9, the Apple Loop browser crashes logic. It will not reindex. I can't play anything back, any activity in the browser crashes Logic. I've seen this post;
    Rebuilding the loop index :
Quit Logic if it is open.
Place the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index/ in the trash. (Note: GarageBand 1 and Jampacks 1-3 used a different location. See Where loops get installed for more information).
    Open Logic.
Drag the folder /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/ from the finder into the Loop Browser in Logic.
Will this fix the problem? I'm concerned that this may screw up my browser in L7 or L8 both of which I continue to use. I also have a lot of 3rd party Apple Loops that are in the browser.. what will happen with these?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Dan Rad

Those instructions you found somewhere are probably fine, but you might as well use the Apple version. Follow this procedure: "Logic: Rebuilding the Loop Index."
It will probably solve the problem, and it won't do any harm.
If it doesn't solve the problem, there are some other things we can try, so let us know.

  • Can i use icloud to save changes to logic 9 projects on different macs?

hi peops, can i use icloud to save projects on logic 9? I use an imac at home but use my macbook pro away from home. everything is duplicated but find it a pain consolidating and have forgotten sometimes to updat a project on 1 machine or the other. iCloud seems a great way of doing what i want where ever I want
    thanks in advance

Logic isn't compatible with iCloud, so you have to save files on both computers

  • Can 32-bit plugins remain in plugin folder and not crash Logic?

    Pre-sales question:
    1) If you have any 32-bit plugins in the plugin folder, can they just be disabled in the Logic X AU manager, or do they crash Logic X upon launch? The reason I ask is because I wanted to keep some in the folder for when I use another DAW that doesn't have a problem with them.
    Question on Logic 9:
    2) If I am in Mountain Lion, and wanted to run Logic 9 at times, plus Logic X, does Logic 9 have to be set to run at 32-bit so that it could still use the 32-bit plugins?
    3) If Logic 9 is running in 64-bit mode, can it access the 32-bit plugins in Mountain Lion?
I know the only thing will be that I can't open a Logic X session back in Logic 9, but I might want to bounce a quick part back in Logic 9 that uses a 32-bit plugin.
    Thanks.

    hi
    1. Yes you can leave your 32bit plugins in Component folder. Logic X just ignore them. They don't crash LPX
    2. Logic 9 can run with Logic X installed. It doesn't matter if you run LP9 in 32 or 64bit mode.LP 9 will work
    as before.
    3. Yes Logic 32bit mode can access 32bit plugins through the bridgre as before

  • Screen Saver WindowServer Crashing

    I have a dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 with 2 GBs RAM running 10.4.5.
When opening Desktop and Screen Saver in System Preferences and selecting anything in that dialog box System Prefs consistently crashes. I would like to prevent the system from going into sleep mode when I have apps that are processing in the background.

Yes, screen saver preferences crashes immediately when clicking the screen saver preview mode. I am able to get into the desktop preferences. I don't recall the last download before this happened since this has been about a week. All other apps besides ichat, quicktime and the screen saver preference pane are fine and helvetica font is active. Im guessing its probably an issue with one certain application or corrupt file.

  • TS3048 are there any known issues with the magic mouse? i believe mine is buggy and  has been crashing Logic

mac pro quad core 2.8Ghz Lion 10.7.4 12 GB ram
magic mouse behaves very erratically; seems buggy and tracks slow. will crash Logic when rubber-banding or moving events in piano roll edit windeo. very frustrating. have not been able to duplicate this crash using my old wired mouse (from my G4)
someone at a Mac store suggested i may have a"bad" mouse... what gives? any help would be appreciated. i will be happy to replace the mouse if that is the issue...robert

    Hello,
In answer to your question, I have not heard of any "known problems."
The device may, indeed, be faulty.  Try resetting the PRAM and SMC before you buy a new one.

  • My screen saver preferences CRASHES!

    So, this is pretty simple.
I don't have a way to change my desktop background nor my screen saver, cause every time i try to do that. the desktop/screen saver window CRASHES!...
I tried restarting, I already report the issue with apple... but i don't know what i can do!... I mean, there's a way to fix or to restore that specific part of the OS?
or, hmmm... i don't know!... I'm very confused!...
Some other details: I have the "iTunes artwork" screen saver, (i don't know why) but that may be the cause of the crash... maybe it doesn't find a file or a specification...
    THANKS A LOT! =D

Hi, abrahamca. Welcome to the Discussions.
You wrote: "I don't have a way to change my desktop background nor my screen saver, cause every time i try to do that. the desktop/screen saver window CRASHES!..."I presume you mean that when you attempt to select the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preference pane in System Preferences, this results in System Preferences quitting unexpectedly.
    If so, try the following:
    1. Quit (Command-Q) System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Trash the following two files in your Home > Library > Preferences folder:
    • com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    • com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. Trash the following files in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder:
    (a) com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
    (b) com.apple.screensaver.xxx.plist
    (c) com.apple.screensaver.screensaver_name.xxx.plist
where• xxx is an alphanumeric string, and
    • screensaver_name is the name of a screen saver you have used.Whether preferences files of the type shown in (c) exist depends upon the screen saver and if you have changed its options, if any.
    4. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    5. Empty the Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if all is well. If so, reset Desktop & Screen Saver preferences accordingly.
Note that some of the information above is from the "System Preferences" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
    Good luck!

  • MP3 Bounce crashes Logic 8 or produces no MP3 file

    Hi all,
A very simple recipe for crashing Logic (for me at least): but I'm not sure if I'm alone.
    - Create a project & record some audio/soft-synths. I do all mine in 24/96.
    - Go to File>Bounce and choose MP3
    - If you choose the 'add to iTunes' option, Logic goes through the bounce process then crashes.
    - If you don't choose 'add to iTunes', the bounce completes but no files are written.
This problem ONLY occurs with MP3s.
Has anyone else seen this? I've reported this to Apple numerous times from 8.0.0 but haven't heard anything back nor seen a fix in 8.0.1 or 8.0.2.
    Thanks for any thoughts.

Just trying CAF... there is a difference already, it has not crashed yet - it is beachballing... force quit... even hard restart... Open song...
    :0
    (later:)
But now it worked with the CAF files! After a restart... I thought converting to CAF would be a nice workaround, but when I converted back to AIFF, it also bounced flawlesly, with the same graceful politeness foreshadowed in the manual:
*"Note: Should the selected sample rate be higher than 48 kHz, a temporary copy of the bounced PCM file is created—with an automatic sample rate conversion to 48 kHz before encoding. This conversion takes place because the MP3 format does not support sampling rates higher than 48 kHz.*
*If the PCM option is disabled in the Destination pane, a temporary PCM file is bounced as a source for encoding to MP3/M4A: AAC and/or burning to a CD—in accordance with the options selected in the PCM page."*
I can now bounce both caf and aiff 2496 with no problem?! I'm almost disappointed...
I've tried every possible combination of settings, trying to recreate that very first resolute crash or this second freeze/bogdown... but no dice - logic poses her polite question and does what it's supposed to: bounce to MP3.
I made one methodological mistake though: I should have saved the original testproject just before hitting the bounce button. It was not saved and I had to create it anew. O well, Live and learn...
    regards, Erik.

  • Can't save=Error -39 Logical End Of File Reached

Hi whenever I try to re-save a .jpg file, I get the "Error -39 Logical End Of File Reached."
I have tryed everything I can think of: Copy/Pasting; Importing, etc. with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Thanks for those suggestions Erik...
It's been happening for a month I guess and I don't think that anything new's been installed. I will try recording to the start up disc and to maybe to some USB discs I have.
It seems to happen after working on a project for some time.
After say tracking takes for 45 mins or so. Maybe it's just coincidence, but do you think that might indicate a hardware issue?
Now there might be a clue. What happens when you then quit Logic, reboot your Mac, and reopen the active session? It might be that your disk has become a bit messy from all the traffic, and it just needs to 'settle' in OS X again. Click on the *Spotlight icon* top right of your screen and see if any indexing is taking place. Wait for it to finish before launching Logic.
Alternatively, you could exclude your recording disk from Spotlight indexing alltogether, by dragging the disk to the Privacy field in the Spotlight Sysprefpane.
One other thing to do: turn off Journaling , using *Disk Utility.* Select your recording volume in Disk Utility, hold the alt key while dropping down the File menu. Choose *Disable Journaling.*
On the other hand, it might also point to a RAM issue. Do you ever suffer Kernel panics (=the darkening 'curtain' and the message "You need to restart your Mac... etc")? or 'unexplained' crashes? If not or very rarely, I'ld rule out a RAM issue. If daily, it could be. What you can try in this case is to turn of your Mac and physically take out and reinsert your RAM.
And when you trash (=eject/unmount), physically disconnect and reconnect your recording disk? Does that help? (Logic should not be running when you do this)
