Save As (CS4) JPG or PNG

For some time now, I've been meaning to get to the bottom of this, and I guess I'm doing more Save As functions than usual because I'm finally to the point where I need to know how to fix this.
As you can see in the two attached images, I'm saving a PSD file as, Save As JPG, and also Save As PNG.  The red arrows point to my issues.  There is always a checkmark in the grayed out box called, As A Copy, so it's always saving with a space and then the word copy at the end of the file name.  I manually backspace it to get rid of it, but it's getting irritating.  Where can I turn this off?  Any help is appreciated.
Paula

the problem is the yellow triangle, those file formats don't support Layers so you have to save your file as a copy. To get around this, use File->Save for Web & Devices instead of Save As (or flatten the image before you use Save As but i wouldn't recommend doing that)

  • Why can't I save as my photoshop cs4 file to .png file? I don't see any option now?

    Hi,
why can't I save as my photoshop cs4 file to .png file? I don't see any option for saving .png in Save As diolog box now? It was working fine until yesterday. Neither I can open a .png file nor save my psd file to png file?
Please help. I am using Microsoft Window XP Professional and Photoshop CS4.

In Photoshop CS4, .png open/save support was provided by a plug-in.  It is possible the plug-in has been deleted or moved, or has become unavailable to Photoshop because of a change in file protections.
Do you have the file PNG.8BI on your system.  It should be here on a 32 bit Windows system:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats\PNG.8BI

  • Photoshop CS5 question - trying to save a name with extension .jpg or .png

    Hi,
If I open a new file and go to save it the extension names show up (.jpg or .png). However, if I open an illustrator file in Photoshop and try to save it the extension names are not there (it's just saving them as the proper format, but I want the files to have the .jpg or .png in the name without me typing them in myself.
Anyone know why this is or how I can fix it?

That is not true.  A net document save may default to .jpg.  I do not ever remember a save defaulting to .png unless a the document was opened from a .png file.  If the new document has layers save should open display the save as dialog and default to file type .psd.

I do not have or use Illustrator however I do not believe that  Photoshop can open all illustrator file types like .ai.  Photoshop may be able to import and export .ai file.  If you have a document open in Photoshop you should be able to use "Save As"  and  chose the file type you want to save from the file type pull down menu. However .ai will not ne in the list.

  • Saving layers directly to .jpg or .png all at once?

I've been using Photoshop for about a month now, mostly to take apart .gifs and make new ones, and I have a question. Is it possible to make Photoshop just save all the layers that are open into .jpgs or .pngs with out having to view each one and save it manualy? Thanks for the help, and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

    Hi,
I can't recall which version first had this script, but I think this is what you're asking for. File> Scripts> Export Layers to Files...
The PNG format was included in CS4, I believe.

  • Optimial file format - gif, jpg, or png automatic?

Is there a way to have photoshop to easily and automatically determine and save a file in the format that is the smallest file size?  I upload dozens of files to my web site each day, and instead of saving as each format to see which one is smaller, I'd like photoshop, or another program, to automatically determine which format will result in the smallest file.
    Thanks,
    DownAndOut

It seems odd to me is that more image editing programs do not offer the functionality that I am inquiring about. I found hundreds of posts accross the internet that say "save as .jpg/.gif/.png to see which one is the smallest". This seems time consuming when a program (when saving) could display the size that the file would save in each format, allowing the user to select which format they wish to save in.
The "general" rule that photographic type images save smaller as .jpg may be the case in general, but does not apply on our web site http://www.mysavings.com. Our content editors upload 300x250 and 120x60 (thumbnails) of the same image. Even when the images are of photographic nature, the 120x60 seem to usually 50% smaller as .gifs, while the same image as 300x250 are 25% smaller .jpg. 50% on is large and really affects loadt ime when we are talking about 2 images on the page. So we are having to adopt a general rule that save the 120x60 as .gif and the 300x250 as .jpg, regardless of the content of the picture. Our image editors do not have the time to save in both formats just to see which is smaller.
It just seems logical that a program could show you the resulting file sizes for each format when saving so you can choose which is smaller. Regardless of affecting quality, because I see no noticeable difference in quality when I just save these images as a .jpg or .gif, the only difference I notice is the file size.

  • Tiff to JPG or PNG converter

Is there a program that can convert a group of TIFF formatted images to something else, like JPG or PNG? Right now what I'm doing is opening up Preview and then having to save each image one by one, which is time consuming. Is there a command line utility that I could do this with, or is there anything in OS X that does it?
    Thanks.

If you're talking about screenshots - you can set what format they get saved to using the "defaults" command in a Terminal window (Terminal.app is located in the /Applications/Utilities folder). For example to set the type to jpg (or png or tiff or pdf or not sure what others are possible - perhaps someone knows all the types that can be used):
         defaults write com.apple.screencapture type "jpg"
If you want to change the location the screencaptures get saved to:
         defaults write com.apple.screencapture location "~/Desktop/Screenshots"
    then you need to
         killall SystemUIServer
    good luck..........

  • How do I convert file to gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, or swf

I mad a page in COMIC LIFE. I saved it, then when i went on photobucket.com, it gave me a message saying
The file "" does not have a valid image extension.
Valid image extensions are: gif, jpg, jpeg, png, bmp, swf.
    HOW DO I CHANGE IT?
    Thanks

I have never used Comic Life, so I can't tell you how to do it from there. But you could open it in Preview. Control-click the page in the Finder and choose Open with... set it to Preview. Once in Preview, do a Save As and change the Format there.

  • AE CC crash when drag jpg and png files to comp

Hi I have noticed photoshop exports of jpg and png files cause AE CC to crash when drag these files  to comp Same jpg and png exported from CS6 do not cause crash.

What exact version of Photoshop CC are you using? 14.0, 14.1, 14.2?
How are you saving the PNG and JPEG files from Photoshop? File > Save As? Save for Web?
In After Effects preferences > Media & Disk Cache, is the Create Layer Markers from Footage XMP Metadata option enabled? Does the problem go away if you turn this off?
A similar problem recently occurred with files generated from Illustrator CC (17.1):
    http://adobe.ly/1jlIykQ
However, we have no reason to believe the same problem would apply to files generated from Photoshop. I am not able to reproduce your problem with PNG and JPEG files saved from Photoshop CC (14.2), either from Save As or Save for Web. So either the conditions of your problem are more specific, or it is not related to the XMP Metadata problem.

  • CS3 - CS4: JPG resolution

    Hi,
I'm a developer using Apache FOP to create PDFs. We are using JPGs (CMYK) with a resolution of 300dpi (had some problems with tiff, so we're on jpg).
Here's the problem I'm in now:
Creating the JPG files with PS CS3 works fine. Now we changed to CS4 and the graphic library, used by FOP, is unable to retrieve the resolution from the JPG, reading 96dpi instead of 300dpi.
What is the difference in saving JPGs in CS3 and CS4 (maybe something with the metadata)?
How can I assure the JPGs saved by CS4 are compatible with some older or simpler graphic stuff like the apache-graphic library?
    THX,
    Chrise
PS: Same problem on Mac and Windows.

    Thanks for your repley.
using the plain "save as" on both versions with exactly the same parameters.
Reopening says 300ppi on CS3 and CS4 with both files but opening with e.g. IrfanView shows 300ppi for the CS3 JPG and "empty" for the CS4 JPG.
And now, saving the CS4 file with CS3 (nothing changed, just saved) and the 300ppi are set right for IrfanView and mainly my FO-Processor.
Maybe has somthing to do with the metadata (XMP), I havn't read the JPG specification yet (not amused to do this )

  • Changing .bmp to .jpg to .png

    Hi,
I have a bunch of .bmp files that need to be converted to .png files. Some of the .bmp files cannot be made into .png files without being converted to .jpg files first.  The first action does the .bmp --> to .jpg.  The second action finishes up the process converting the .jpg to .png.
I would make the change over into one long action: Process1.  But when I convert one file to another and save to another location, I need to open that same file name with the different extension and then run the second process.
So I've got two separate actions now and run one after the other.  Being on the lazy side, you know, one less click is a wonderful thing..., can I combine the actions or is there a way to do Process1 all at one time?
    thanks for all help!

make an action that saves a file to .png and then run it on the rest of the files. If you want to save using 8bit png then use File->Save for Web & Devices and make sure that you select png-8 otherwise use File->Save. Note that if you save using the Save for Web & Devices command then you will save all your files in the folder specified by it, it cannot be overriden using the Batch command. If you save the file using 24bit png(using File->Save) then when using File->Batch to automate the process make sure that Override Action "Save As" Commands is selected and select the folder where you want to save your files

  • How to save or save a drawing in a PNG or any Image file format ?

    Hi,
I am working on a signature capturing application using J2ME MIDP 2.0 for Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile 6.0
I am taking signatures as a drawing on a CustomItem.
Now, i want to send it to a php script running on Apache server to save this signature as a PNG, jpeg or any image file at server end.
or how can i save this drawing on my local file system as a png or any other type of image file.
Plz help if anybody knows the right way....
    Thanks.

    Hi Hithayath,
    Thnx for the reply.
Actually, i hv no problem in storing a data locally or sending it on a web server. The problem in related with the formats.
I mean, how can we create a png or jpg file using the raw bytes of an image drawn on a canvas or CustomItem.. ?
We can get the integer array of RGB points using getRGB() method of image object. Now, if i will write this data after converting to binary in a file then that file
will show a message like "Preview not available". It means the format is not recognized.
So, my question is how can we convert this raw data in a png or jpg format so it can be displayed on a web page or stored in a png or jpg file..?
I think now u can better understand the problem.
    Waiting for the reply....
    Thanks. :)

  • Taking screenshots, need them to be JPGs, not PNGs.

I press Command+Shift 3 or 4 to take screen shots, and it saves the picture as a PNG. But I need it to save as a JPG, is there a way to change that option or convert the file formats?
I'm only asking because I typed a paper and needed to share parts of it with others in a group project. But they work on PCs and the PNGs weren't showing up. So for the sake of simplicity, I just want to have JPGs.
I know I could also use Snag & Drag, but I'd rather use the Command+Shift 3 or 4 keys rather than open up a separate application.

    Hi Dave UT
    Well heres some options:
    You can use Snap NGrab
You can use Grab which comes on your computer in the Utilities folder. After you take the screen shot, save it. Then open it up in Preview, where you can change the format to other formats like .jpeg
You can also do that with the screen shots (Shift3/4) and change the format in Preview
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • How do I stop iWeb turning my .jpgs into PNG's ??

    Hi
No one on a PC can print out my iWeb pages because when I drag a pic into iWeb it auto makes it a PNG. (unreadable from some PC's) How can I stop this from happening so that people can print ok from my site?
    Thank you

    http://web.mac.com/jimpsky/iWeb/Craiganor/Craiganor.html

    Thnx Mark
I figured iWeb might be doing this and it seems impossible to fix. Here, as always I optimize all my pics in PS for the web as jpg,s. I've noticed iWeb actually makes some of my pics bigger! after optimizing if I resize the pic in iWeb. It shouldn't do this anti optimization.
I have another site on a different .mac account that, after growing past a point, now converts all the text to jpg so no text can be copied. http://web.mac.com/hueynrolf/iWeb/BWA/Home.html
but still here no PNG file conversions.
    The "Craiganor" site in question, was added to an existing iWeb project (Domain) ;
    http://www.rospalmerinteriors.com/RosPalmerInteriors/news.html
Rospalmerinteriors, published to a .com and mirror on .mac, works well. With a little tweaking i managed to prevent it from converting text to jpeg and no auto jpg to PNG conversions. The Craiganor site does convert the jpgs to PNG!
    1. Is this occurring because Craiganor is the second site ? I suspect so.
    2. Will rebuilding the site (would rather not) in its own iWeb Domain Solve this?
    2. If so and I rebuild the site with it's own Domain, separately publishing Rospalmerinteriors and Craiganor to the same .mac, will I encounter functionality problems with the .mac specific aspect ?
    Many thanks
    Jim

  • Lost metadata in file after attempt to Save RAW As JPG in PS CS3

Someone in other place in this Forum advised me that this will be probably more appropriate place to ask these questions, so I will give it a go. Below is a copy of my post on PS Windows thread (well, two posts really edited into one):
    Hi,
I have just found out that after I open RAW pictures from my Canon 5D (but same happens with pictures from Canon 10D) in PS and than try to save them as JPGs, I loose majority of my metadata from the files (after right click on filename in. I can still Windows Explorer and clicking Properties or simply adding additional columns in Win XP Windows Explorer detailed view.
So same picture, without any editing at all, just opened as RAW file (which it is a CR2 or CRW file in Canons), and then saved as JPG, suddenly does not show the date of picture taken, focal length or exposure time are all gone. Does not matter if I try Properties in Win Explorer or say Properties in MS Office Picture Manager.
Was trying to look for any setting in PS that would set the ability to save or abandon saving of this type of information in JPG file but could not find anything of this kind.
What is interesting I went back to my pictures I have saved from RAW to JPG using same PS years ago, and I this was not a problem. Everything was saving OK.
    So in summary:
    1. This would not be a problem related to camera (it is unlikely that same problem would occur on two different models at the same time - even though both are Canons)
    2. It must be a way to force the Photoshop to do that, I f I was able to do it successfully, almost without knowing, before.
Therefore, I would think that either:
    1. There is some set of defaults somewhere in PS that I have accidently turned off causing my PS not to save this metadata properly or in full, or
    2. That it came as some kind of bug with some of the updates to PS CS3 that I was getting over last year from Adobe.
Has any one else encountered similar problem? If yes, what did you do to resolve this issue?
I will be very grateful for any help, as I am not a frequent user of Adobe Photoshop and may just not be very familiar with the part that regulates that type of issues.
And I do not use the Save for Web option.
I just used (in PS CS3 running on Win XP Professional with SP3) the Save As from File menu.
What is also strange is that if I use File - Open command and get the first window with Open dialog box, where you have some basic options for opening/converting RAW format pictures (this window does not come up when I open JPG files) and I use existing there button to Save (which does not actually allow to do any editing of the picture before such way of saving) all Camera Properties, or that metadata, is actually saved into the newly created JPG quite correctly.
However if I use button Open in that conversion dialog box, and than save already opened RAW file as JPG, the majority of that data is gone (date picture taken, exposure time, aperture, focal length, exposure compensation steps etc).
I can see that RAW file has all this in the sections called EXIF and XMP (under File - File Information) but Save As does not add this info in the JPG files for some reason.

No, not really, because I ma not sure what it is for.
I just used (in PS CS3 running on Win XP Proffessional) the Save As from File menu.

  • How do I batch convert .ai to .jpg or .png in Bridge CC 2014?

I have found where you could "Export" them out in older versions of Bridge but no "Export" function exist in CC 2014.

You could do it like this: http://www.santoshgs.com/blog/189/how-to-batch-convert-png-to-jpeg-using-photoshop-cs2/
But can I be honest? I'd do that with a more efficient and far faster conversion utility like IrfanView. Photoshop is incredibly slow for this type of work. For example, I did a quick test to demonstrate the difference in performance:
folder with 10 images in jpg format, 5600px by 5600px. Simple jpg to png batch.
    Photoshop: over six minutes.
IrfanView: one minute and 40 seconds.
That's a rather big difference - and with large numbers of images I just do not have the time to wait for Photoshop to finish the job. It's too slow.
Another issue is that during the conversion process Photoshop cannot be used - while with a simple conversion utility you can leave it running in the background, and continue to use PS for other work if required. This matters if you have hundreds of images to convert.
Btw, Irfanview (windows only) is free to download @ http://www.irfanview.com/
The batch processing you can find under File-->Batch Conversion <b>
ImageMagick is also free and open source. It is a command line tool, and easy to use for conversions. Will also work on a mac. But it is much slower than IrfanView, a tad faster than PS.
