"Save As" Dialog Box Opens As Full Screen. How to Disable?

At some point my "Save As" dialog box began to open as full screen. Don't know why. There is no way that I can find to get it out of full screen mode. I've looked at the preferences and can't find any obvious control for this behavior. It's not a big deal, but it's very annoying. I've not been able to find anywhere else that this question has been asked.
I tried "Save As Other" and it behaves the same way.
The document itself is not opened full screen.
I'm using Windows 7. Currently I'm running Adobe Reader XI, but the behavior started before that. I think I may have accidentally typed in some combination of keys (or dropped something on the keyboard) that set some kind of option somewhere.
Thanks for any help.

Wouldn't you know it. By entering this question a similar question finally showed up. The answer is to right-click in the top of the window and select "Restore." Problem solved.

  • Save as dialog box expanded to full screen, edge arrows flicker and will not pull the edges in.

This problem presented itself out of the blue. The Save As dialog box expanded to full screen, and although the arrows that appear when the mouse cursor is over the edge of a window are present, they flicker and do not grab the edge to pull it in. Every other window on the computer does not have an issue like this. Restarting Firefox or the computer does not eliminate the problem. I am hoping that there is a settings file somewhere that the numeric value for the dialog box size can be changed, since I do not want to completely reinstall the browser.
As a side note, if the browser has been running many downloads for a while, it will usually start failing to display information, and eventually will get to a point where the Save As box flickers for an instant and disappears and the entire browser becomes unresponsive for an hour or more. Downloads continue (including the one that it froze up on, albeit as a randomly named file in User...Temp), but it is not possible to restart the browser until the downloads complete (which in some cases can be several hours). Usually I revert to using IE11 until I can restart Firefox.
Perhaps one of my strongest dislikes of Firefox though is the issue with its resistance to copy and paste operations in the Save As dialog box. Most websites offer files with cryptic and even identical names for different files, so renaming files is a critical operation if one is to keep track of and later identify the files one has. A problem unique to Firefox, attempts to highlight and paste in a better file name usually are met with a refusal to paste, a stuck context menu that can take a minute of clicking to clear, repeated jumping to the end of the file name, and other similar issues. I have encountered this problem repeatedly on different computers and different operating systems, it is a problem I have only ever encountered in Firefox.

    cor-el,
I kept forgetting and procrastinating about following your instructions, since I have internet access only for limited amounts of time and usually I am busy with important tasks when I am.
Out of the blue, the problem corrected itself (the Save As box started to open full screen, then shrunk down to a normal size and the edges can now be dragged to a custom size).
Even the copy and paste problem in the filenaming area seems to have been less troublesome lately even though there have been no updates to Firefox in a few weeks.
Even though I marked the solution as not helpful, the problem has in fact been resolved. I will save the solution instructions in case the issue returns.

  • "Save As" window ONLY opens as full screen and is not sizeable

I am using Reader X version 10.1.6, I just upgraded today HOPING that my issue was addressed, but it was not.
Now that Adobe -in it's brilliance - has disabled the "Save" button, users have to be inconvenienced by going to File>>Save As.  When I do this, the Save As disalog box opens - but ONLY to full screen. That means that I cannot see the document I am trying to save in order to name it properly.
    I have tried:
moving the size of the window box itself (by trying to move the sides and corners of the box)
Playing around with screen resolution (this has now impact whatsoever)
I WOULD HAVE tried clicking the double-box in the top right corner of the screen...IF THERE WAS ONE TO CLICK but that is simple not there.
This applies to both .pdfs sent to me in an email as well as those opened from a browser window.
Please provide details as to which settings need to be adjusted to stop the Save As dialog box from opening to full screen

  • Save As dialog box opens random location

I have been trying to save some attachments from my emails in entourage, but whenever it brings up the save dialog box, the default finder location is completely random. It is not based on my last known location, nor a default 'Desktop' or 'Documents' folder. It will change every time. I can save 3 emails in a row and they will all open in different locations....
    oddd....
    any thoughts?

I too am having the same issue, in every program. Whenever I have a save dialog box open, it picks a completely random location to save it to, which becomes quite old when you have to save multiple files back-to-back in the same location. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Individual emails open in full screen, how do I resize them to open smaller automatically

when I open individual emails they open in full screen. A friend said resize the email to what I want and hold down the CTRL button and close everything out. It worked but not permanently. How do I resize so my emails open to a smaller size on not take up the whole screen automatically.

Have you tried setting Thunderbird to open messages in a tab rather than a window? Or better (IMHO) to not "open" them but to read them in the message pane below the message list.

  • Dialog Boxes stuck on full screen mode in ID4

    I run InDesign CS4 on a 15-inch HP Elitebook 8560 connected to two 20-inch monitors running at 1600 X 900 DPI.
Usually, InDesign occupies the left of the two monitors.
Occasionally I telework at home on a  single 27-inch monitor.
The computer has no trouble distinguishing between the two setups.
When I do a "Save As" in InDesign CS4, the file name and location dialog box now takes up the full screen of  20-inch monitor.
I try dragging the lower right hand corner with my mouse, but nothing works to make that screen any smaller.  Even if I move the mouse to the upper right or upper edge of the screen and click-drag, it stays at full screen.
If I undock the laptop and use its screen, even at a higher resolution, I still cannot drag the corners of the dialog box away from the edges of the screen.
Are there any preferences or keyboard shortcuts I could use to solve this?

To force quit an application, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu (or press Command-Option-Esc), then choose the unresponsive application in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Optionally, you may be able to Option-right click the application's icon in the Dock and choose Force Quit from the contextual menu.
If this is not an option, hold down the power button (5-10 seconds) until the mac shuts off and then restart.

  • How to change a dialog box to its ' full-screen' mode ?

There is a dialog box in an application I am writting currently using swing.
The question is, how can I change it to ' full screen ' mode and switch it back to its normal mode ?

To that purpose, you might make use of myDialog.setSize(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize());Hope this helps even though it is not 'true' full-screen. As far as I know, it's as close as you'll get.

  • All Office 2010 Applications Slow To Produce "OPEN" or "SAVE AS" Dialog Box ONLY When PC Connected To Network

    Hello all,
Frustrating problem: ALL Office 2010 apps require a 45 second delay to produce an "open" or "save as" dialog box when the computer is connected to a LAN (wireless or wired, domain or workgroup). When the computer is NOT connected to a LAN (wireless or wired,
domain or workgroup), then Office 2010 "open" or "save as" dialog boxes open normally (and quickly).
I suspect a network search/survey function internal to MS Office is at fault.
This is NOT the infamous mapped network drive problem associated with Office 2007/2010. There are no mapped drives (nor have there ever been) on the PC, although there might exist a related solution. Additionally, there is no 45 second delay when opening
a file by double-clicking on the file itself which will launch the application.
    Other information:
    1. PC runs Windows 7 Pro 32 bit - PC is a relatively new Lenovo T400 laptop, all updates from Lenovo and MS installed, running clean and nicely otherwise, no spyware, no viruses, no previous software or hardware issues requiring assistance. Event log is
    clean.
    2. Absolutely fresh installation of Office 2010 Pro Plus (MS Action Pack)
    3. Running Office apps in safe mode does not alter problem behavior (ie, "windword.exe /a" or use CTRL key and double-click to launch app)
    4. Running Windows 7 in safe mode with networking and then subsequently testing Office apps is not possible: "license not able to validate" issue. This is a known problem and is not related to the slow dialog box response behavior.
    5. A desktop PC with the same MS Office 2010 installation, same volume license key, on the same network does NOT produce this problem.
    6. Full uninstall, reboot, and re-install of Office 2010 does not alleviate problem
    7. Disabling ALL startup items and services (including, of course, ALL Lenovo management software) does not alleviate problem
    8. SMB v2 bug is not the problem: ie, disabling mrxsmb20 service does not alleviate symptoms.
    9. I have isolated "Client for Microsoft Networks", "QOS Packet Scheduler", "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" (and Responder), and "Printer and File Sharing for MS Networks" in the network adapter properties are NOT causing the issue.
    10. Using Sysinternals Registry Monitor, I was able to determine that Office apps evaluate certain properties of your Internet Explorer settings before attempting to launch the "open" or "save as" dialog box. Altering the way intranets are detected, for
example, does not alleviate the symptoms.
    11. Turning off Antivirus software (Avira Personal) does not alleviate the issue.
This issue is causing a huge loss of work efficiency. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Rick

    Hello Rick,
Through all the research I have done so far and talking with a few other coworkers what the common issues that cause this are is:
    1. Antivirus: disabling the antivirus is not good enough it needs to be totaly uninstalled and retested.
    2. startup programs: these need to be disabled through either Safe mode with networking or the start menu or MSconfig.
    3. Office addins: Disable all of them see if that helps. Then turn them back on one by one to see which addin is causing the issue.
To disable addins: 1. open up regedit and navigate to this key. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Addins and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
Then change the LoadBehavior to 0 this will disable the addin. 3 lets it run. Since this affected only one user HKEY_LOCAL_USER might be your best bet but don't rule out the other location.
To verify there are no addins running go to the File tab>options>Add-Ins make sure nothing is listed under Active Application Add-ins.
    I hope this helps
    Thanks,

  • 'Save as Type' box in 'Save As' dialog box

I recently downloaded 'Rocket PDF' and now if I try to save any PDF. document, the only choices in the 'save as type' box are 'Rocket PDF' or 'All files'. No more 'Adobe Reader PDF. appears as a choice. I uninstalled 'Rocket PDF' and in the 'Default changes' I put 'Adobe Reader as the default to open 'PDF.'. Still, the only choices on the 'save as type ' are 'Rocket PDF' or 'All files'! How do I get Adobe Reader PDF' back as a choice in the 'save as type' box and delete 'Rocket PDF' as a choice?

Sorry I wasn't clear! When I try to save a 'PDF' file the "save as" dialog box opens. At the bottom the 'file name'is listed and below that it says, "save as type". You then pick what file type you want, like Adobe Reader for PDF. It used to say Adobe Reader as one of the choices but when I downloaded "Rocket PDF" it only says "Rocket PDF or "all files" as the only choices to save the document, no more Adobe Reader as a choice. I have deleted Rocket PDF and under 'default programs (Start button) I have set the "Pdf. files to open with Adobe Reader. Rocket PDF is still listed or' all files', nothing else! • Strange folders appearing in "Save As" dialog box

    Hello
    *Description of Problem or Question:
If you open a Web Intelligence report that has been sent to you from your Inbox I have noticed there are "extra" folders I wouldn't expect to see. As an administrator and can see the following extra "strange" folders:
    Categories
    Inboxes
    Internal Storage Folder
    Personal Categories
    Root Folder
    Temporary Storage
    User Folders
    (Please see attached screenshot)
As a non-admin user I can only see the extra folder "Root Folder".
This does look odd for a non-admin user as they see the same folder structure twice. E.g:
    Public Folders
    >>Finance Reports
    >>Operations Reports
    >>Root Folder
    >>>>>Finance Reports
    >>>>>Operations Reports
Any ideas on how to hide these folders from the "save as" dialog box?
It does only seems to happen if a report is opened from a users Inbox.

  • CS5.5/OS X 10.8: Open/Save As dialog box resizing

Since I have been using CS5.5 Web Design Premium in Mountain Lion, I cannot get the programs to remember me resizing the Open and Save As dialog boxes.
Each time I Open or Save As, the windows default to about 720 x 540, which is annoyingly small on a 1920 x 1200 screen.
In each programs' .plist file, located at /Users/(username)/Library/Preferences/, there are two keys:
    NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForOpenMode:GetFile
    NSNavPanelExpandedSizeForSaveMode:PutFile
After trying to resize the windows, I  QuickLook these .plist files.  The values for these key-value pairs are
    1)  sporadically updated and subsequently ignored on program close/relaunch, or
    2)  not updated at all.
Have noticed this problem in DW, FW, AI, and FL.  PS seems to be the only exception.
Adobe products are the only programs on my Mac that exhibit this problem.
Mac OS is up to date. (10.8.3 as of date of post)
All aforementioned Adobe programs are up to date according to the Adobe Application Manager.
The preferences folder and the specific .plist files contained therein are read/writeable by me, the administrator.
Rebuilding the .plist file does not help.
Rebuilding the Saved Application State folder for the program does not help.
Other miscellaneous things (resizing Finder columns, showing/rehiding hidden files, maximizing/restoring the window) don't help either.
Can any community members who have experienced this problem suggest any fixes?

I think this is an OS X 10.8 thing rather than a CS5.5/OS X 10.8 thing – but I would really like a fix for this too, nnotnorth

  • File open/download dialog box flashes on the screen, then disappears.

I am upgrading to Firefox 17 (from 3.5.2) on Linux SuSE SLED 10. I am only moving to Firefox 17, as SLED 10 does not support anything higher than that and it is not feasible to upgrade my entire my OS.
My issue is that when clicking on a file on a website, the file dialog box (open with/save) flashes on the screen for a split second then disappears. For items that I have handled by specific applications in mimeTypes.rdf, it does the specified action. However, any file type that I have designated in mimeTypes as "alwaysAsk", I get this issue. I do not have this issue in FF 3.5.2 and I have gone as far as using my 3.5.2 mimeTypes.rdf and prefs.js files on my 17 install and it does not help.
I have looked through many forums and have not been able to determine how to fix this or whether it is fixable in 17.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why does it take so long for the Open, Save, or Save As Dialog Boxes to Open?

I'm having a problem throught CS6 with the Open, Save, or Save As dialog boxes not opening for a period of time after clicking on the desired functions.  It can take over a minute just to get the Open dialog box up to browse for a file.  Eventually, the dialog boxes open, but during the time that it's trying to open, the program is unresponsive.  It is happening with all of my CS6 programs.  I have unistalled and reinstalled with no fix.  The programs are updated.  Anyone else having this trouble?  Any solutions?

Thanks for your response.  The system is a Windows 7 64-bit system with 4GB RAM installed.  I am not trying to save anywhere in particular.  By default, it would open to the user's documents, and does eventually, but it currently just sits for about a full minute before doing anything.  This machine was saving properly when CS6 was first installed about 5 months ago.
I've checked for unconnected network drives. I've also renamed the Illustrator preferences file based on a reccomendation that I found elsewhere.  However, neither of these helped.
I can provide screenshots or anything else that's needed.
