Save As Dialog...One less mouse click?

From here:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2394410#2394410
It appears that I can't remove the file formats that I never use (BMP, Scitex, Targa, Large Documetn Format, etc) , so my question is can I open the Format menus quickly by typing a type or some keystroke to get to JPEG, Tiff, PSD with 1 less click?
I'm using CS5 for Macintosh if that matters...
Thanks in advance...
Delane Rouse

No, you can not.
I wish the dialog recognized the suffix, but it does not. It's possible to save a jpg with a .png suffix or any other one.

  • Navigate in Word's "Save As" dialog box without mouse

    I want to create macros (using QuicKeys) that will Save As documents created in Word using keystrokes alone (no mouse action).  In OS 10.5x this could be done by going to the top level of folders that could be selected (this part still works in Snow Leopard); pressing the "tab" key three times (until the first item in the list of folders where I could save was selected); then typing the first letter or two of another folder in the list to select it.  In Snow Leopard there seems to be no way to do the second action (for which pressing "tab" three times formerly worked)—although pressing "tab" does navigate to several other places in Word's "Save As" dialog box.  Am I wrong?

    For the benefit of everyone who has been anxiously awaiting a solution to the problem I posed above on May 9 (both of you), I've found the following workarounds for most navigation needs in Word when doing an Open or Save As... command (these work at least in Mac OS 10.6.8):
    (1) To go UP the hierarchy of volumes and folders, press Command -Ÿ [up arrow key].
    (2) To go DOWN the hierarchy of volumes and folders (that is, to open a volume or folder that you have selected), press Shift - Return.
    Examples of how to use those moves:
    After you trigger Word's “Open” or “Save As...” command, press Command - [up arrow key]Ÿ a few times to get to the root level of the  network, drive, or whatever you are working in.  (How many times you need to press that combination will depend on how many levels it contains.  But if you are making a macro to do this, have it do that key pressing several times—because once you get to the root level of the network, drive, or whatever, pressing that combination more times does nothing.)
    Press Tab three times. This normally results in selecting some volume (or folder) at the root level.
    To select another volume (or folder) at the root level, type the first character(s) of its name, or press the [up arrow key]Ÿ or [down arrow key] as appropriate.
    To open a particular folder within that volume (or folder), type the first character(s) of its name to select it, and press Shift - Return; repeat as needed until you get where you wanted to go.
    If anyone else likes to use macros to reduce effort in this way, and discovers any better ways to do such things, please add to this thread.

  • Save As dialog hangup (Plug-in for Firefox)

    Hi folks,
    I'm running Firefox 5.0, equipped with the Adobe Acrobat (Reader?) 10.1.0.534 Plug-In for Firefox, on several fully patched XP Pro systems.  On a regular basis I view publicly accessible/non-DRMd PDFs via the Plug-in and save a copy by mousing to the bottom of the viewport to activate the autohide toolbar thingy and clicking on "Save a copy".  Doing so causes a Save As dialog to pop up.  Very frequently, an attempt to use that Save As dialog... immediately clicking Save to save to the default directory or clicking the Desktop icon to change to a different directory... will cause that Save As dialog to indefinetely hang.  In order to clear this condition I have to kill the AcroRd32.exe process, and sometimes also the plugin-container.exe and firefox.exe processes as well. The problem is intermittent in the sense that it sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't happen, even for the same exact PDF file.  This is something I've coped with for a very long time, under different versions of Firefox, on old as well as newly created XP Pro installs, before and after purging/reinstalling Firefox and Adobe software, different versions of the Plug-in, etc.
    Is this a known problem?  Has anyone else experienced this type of problem and found a way to prevent it from happening?  Thanks in advance.

    Acrobat is now at 11.0.3. Fixes for earlier versions come later.

  • "Save as" dialog -- filename input

    Hello,
    each time if I save an edge animate using the "save as" dialog , the save as dialog opens and I click on another file in order to reuse the file name. The file name is prompted in the save as dialog.
    Now, I like to modify the file name: I click into the file name and enter the first character. Instead of not changing the position, the program is selecting the complete file name and deletes the file name if you continue writing. This is in my opinion an error. The save as dialogs in Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver (I have not tested other Adobe applications) have the same issue.
    Does anyone has a solution for this? I don't have this issue in MS Office or Visual Studio. Seems to be a problem in Adobe applications only.I have updated to the latest available AI, DW, PS and Animate versions (CC 2014.1 and so on).
    Yours
    Stephan

    Hello,
    it is windows standard feature inside a save as dialog box if the box is opened and if you click on an existing file name, the cursor should be places at the end of the filename which is completeley selected.
    Then, you have the option to jump at the end of the input field and the filename will be automatically unselected. This is different inside Adobe file save as dialoges and does not correspond to Windows standard behaviour.
    I would change it in order to be compliant to the expected standard feature.

  • Diable "open dialog box" on right mouse click so I can use l mouse to advance to next slide and r mouse click to "go back."  How in PP 2010 for mac????

    I do presentations in PP10.  I am new to macair, and used to Windows.  HOW DO I DISABLE THE "OPEN DIALOG BOX ON RIGHT CLICK"?  I would like to use L mouse to advance slide, and R mouse to go back.  The default is to use R mouse to open dialog box.  I can disable this by unchecking the box in "advanced" on the PC.  How do I do it with the Mac????
    Thanks

    Hi Rod,
    As originally stated in my opening post, the SWF is to be inserted into an Articulate '13 slide (what I called an aggregator originally - I tried not to bring them up since I don't want the chatter about "There's your problem - using Articulate"! ).
    Recall that posting this published file to our LMS did not allow right-mouse click functionality as the flash player menu just gets in the way.
    If I insert the captivate 6 files into Articulate as a Web Object (referencing the entire folder with html, htm and assets, and then posted to our LMS, and it DOES allow RM click operations in both IE and FF (although no sound on the Captivate slide in FF). But this is not what we want to do as this introduces 2 navigation controls (the Captivate one and the Articulate Player).
    Why must anything be posted to a web server for this functionality to work?
    I am able to go into the Captivate 6's published folder, and launch the Captivate demonstration by simply double clicking on the index.html file and this works great in both FF and IE after changing the security settings for flash.
    Again - I can not believe I am the only one out there trying to use the right-mouse click feature to do a software simulation by embedding the Captivate SWF into an Articulate '13 project.

  • A script that captures the coordinates of the mouse clicks and saves them into a file

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a cartoon taking a movie (I've chosen blade runner) as base. I've got the real movie and I've exported all the pictures using VirtualDUB. Now I have a lot of images to modify. I would like to modify the actors faces with the faces generated by Facegen modeller. I'm thinking how to make the whole process automatic because I have a lot of images to manage. I've chosen to use Automate BPA,because it seems the best for this matter. I'm a newbie,so this is my first attempt using Adobe Photoshop and Automate BPA. I wrote a little script. It takes a face generated with Facegen modeller and tries to put it above the original actors faces. But it doesn't work very good and I'm not really satisfied,because the process is not fully automated. To save some time I need to write a script that captures the coordinates of the mouse when I click over the faces and that saves them into a file,so that Automate BPA can read these coordinates from that file and can put the face generated with Facegen Modeller above the original face. I think that Automate BPA is not good for this matter. I think that two coordinates are enough,X and Y. They can be the coordinates of the nose,because it is always in the middle of every face. It is relevant to knows how big should be the layer of the new face,too. This is the Automate BPA code that I wrote :

    and this is a short video to explain better what I want to do :
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/26687972@N03/5331705934/
    In the last scene of the video you will see the script asking to input the X and the Y coordinates of the nose. This request is time consuming. For this reason I want to write a script that captures automatically the coordinates of the mouse clicks. The only thing to do should be click over the nose and the script should make the rest. As "c.pfaffenbichler" suggested here : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/775219, I could explore 3 ways :
    1) use the Color Sampler Tool’s input with a conventional Photoshop Script.
    2) use After Effects would provide a better solution.
    3) Photoshop’s Animation Panel might also offer some easier way as it might be possible to load two movies (or one movie and one image) and animate the one with the rendered head in relation to the other.
    Since I'm a totally newbie in graphic and animation,could you help me to explore these ways ? Thanks for your cooperation.

    These are the coordinates of the contours of the face that you see on the picture. Can you explain to me how they are calculated ? The coordinates of the first colums are intuitive,but I'm not able to understand how are calculated the coordinates of the second one.
    Thanks.
    1 COL     2 COL (how are calculated these values ?)

  • Excel Save As dialog not appearing for one user

    Hi,
    My company uses a payroll application called Cintra.
    It's possible to run a report in this application and
    export it to Excel.
    When one of the users exports a report and clicks File > Save As > Browse nothing happens. All other users get the Save as dialog.
    Is there any setting that may be preventing this? She does not appear to have this trouble when saving any other
    Excel
    files.
    We all use Excel 2013 on Windows 7 in Citrix.
    Cheers
    Paul

    Here is an article for troubleshooting errors when save Excel files you can refer to
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271513
    Based on your description, it's most likely that a Third-party add-in causes this issue, you can try to start excel in safe mode to test it.  excel.exe /safe

  • Clicking on a file name in the Save As dialog removes the extension (.html or .jpg)

    In previous versions of (any) browser I could save a web page, and if there were more than one page, as in a thread in a forum, I used to be able to click on the saved file, "file 01.html" in the Save as dialog, it would show up as "file 01.html" and I could change the 01 to 02 for the second page, ie "file 02.html"
    But now when I click on the file name it shows as "file 01", the .html disappears. Same for .jpg or any other extension.
    This is very annoying, especially when I find a long, multipage thread on a subject I want to read later offline.
    Bug or Feature? Either way I don't like it.
    How can I change it back?
    Thanks,
    David

    I have seen that as well. If I change the name of a .jpg picture I am downloading, I have to add back the extension into the file name. If I do not change the name, the extension is kept.

  • Hello, the 'Save As' dialog box used to allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory when the focus is in the folder contents box but it does not work any more, please help.

    Hello, the 'Save As' dialog box used to allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory when the focus is in the folder contents box but it does not work any more, please help. BTW the same 'Save As' dialog in other applications still allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory.

    cor-el,
    I kept forgetting and procrastinating about following your instructions, since I have internet access only for limited amounts of time and usually I am busy with important tasks when I am.
    Out of the blue, the problem corrected itself (the Save As box started to open full screen, then shrunk down to a normal size and the edges can now be dragged to a custom size).
    Even the copy and paste problem in the filenaming area seems to have been less troublesome lately even though there have been no updates to Firefox in a few weeks.
    Even though I marked the solution as not helpful, the problem has in fact been resolved. I will save the solution instructions in case the issue returns.

  • JOptionPane's message dialog over JDialog not recognizing mouse click

    I have a JOptionPane's message dialog like JOptionPane.showMessageDialog() which comes over a JDialog. When I try to click the OK button of this message dialog, nothing is happening. But, Enter key and Escape keys are working on it.
    Can any one give a solution?

    Hi,
    here are the steps how it goes.
    Step 1:
    private void generateMessageDialog(
            String message,
            int messageType,
            String messageTypeText,
            Component parentFrame)
            JOptionPane optionPane = new JOptionPane();
            optionPane.setMessage(message);
            optionPane.setMessageType(messageType);
            JDialog dialog = optionPane.createDialog(parentFrame,
    messageTypeText);
            dialog.show();
    }If an exception occurs while connecting to my server, this method will be called to generate an error dialog.
    I have another thread which monitors the connection to server every 2500 ms. If the connection is lost, this thread will automatically generates a logon dialog. This dialog is a custom dialog that contains login fields.
    Step 2:
    public void run()
            int previousState = -1;
            while(previousState != CErrorCodes.SESSION_INVALID && previousState != CErrorCodes.NO_CONNECTION_TO_SERVER)
                int currentState = isConnected();
                // Check if a logoff action is pending
                if (currentState == CErrorCodes.REQUEST_SUCCEEDED)
                    if (getClientController().isLogOffPending())
                        break;
                previousState = currentState;
                try
                    sleep(2500);
                catch (InterruptedException e)
                    break;
    // generate the logon  dialog
            getClientController().getLogOnDialog();
    }If step 2 is executed before step 1, then the dialog generated by step 1 will come over the logon dialog generated by step 2. In this case, the ok button of the dialog generated in step 1 will not recognize mouse click. but enter or escape works. Both the dialogs are modal.
    Please let me know if you need furthur info. I look forward for your rep.

    On right mouse click, there is no "save as" or "copy image" when I want to save a picture on line. I have to go back to IE to use this option. Is this not available? Many thanks, Joy
    There are so many occasions on line when I want to save an image that I can't believe I can't do so using Firefox, which I find so good in all other ways. I can Bookmark, save a page or send a link, but not take a simple copy image.

    Hi, Many thanks for replying, it's much appreciated. I started Firefox in safe mode and found I had the full right click menu on a pic on my home page. However, after moving around the web, I've found that the problem still occurs in eBay and it doesn't make any difference in safe mode. still no full menu. After returning to normal mode, I find that this still stands i.e. I do get the full menu on other sites but not in eBay. As I often want to save a pic in Ebay and can do so in IE, I'm baffled as to why this one site is giving problems. As this is where I've mostly been trying to save pics, I didn't realise that it was a "one site" problem and not applicable to everywhere else. If IE didn't work in this respect, I could blame the eBay site, but it does, so that just makes it more puzzling - and very annoying! I have tried accessing Ebay direct, rather than clicking on the toolbar, but this makes no difference. Any further thoughts would be much appreciated. Joy

  • I am using FireFox 4. Where is the "Bookmark All Tabs-" feature. I would like to save my Tabs for a later session. The selection is not on the menu when I right-mouse click or go to the Bookmarks feature of the Menu.

    Missing "Bookmark All Tabs…" feature which was in previous versions of FireFox 3.x. If you right-mouse click on a neutral part of the Browser window, there would be choice of "Bookmark this page" or "Bookmark All Tabs…". I have been unable to find it either in the sub-menu or the BOOKMARK selection from the Menu Bar.

    What do you mean by Tabs sub-menu is it right-clicking on a tab ?
    I know that "ctrl-shift-D" still work.
    I know that a right-click on a tab gives the "Bookmark all Tabs" function.
    But I would like to see it back in the Bookmarks menu. (which is its logical place)
    Because today the choice only disappeared from the menu as it is still reachable through keyboard shortcut or through mouse right-click on a tab
    but tomorrow it will totally disappear and personally I don't want that as this is one of my favorite functionality.
    Tank you for your understanding !

  • Click a Link and open the save-as dialog box instead of browser opening it

    Basically, i have a link to an image and when i click it the browser opens the image. I would prefer that when i click the link to the image that i get some sort of save functionality to occur.
    I created a link to the Google logo so it looks like Google image when clicked the browser opens the image. What i would like to do is click the link and then have the save-as dialog pop up (or something similar). Currently I would either have to right click the opened image and save image as or right click the link and then save-as that way. In this instance the file doesn't reside on the database but an external source so is there a way to save-as dialog once the link is clicked?

    Sorry, I have no idea what you are doing; can you give us some details?

    Most times you can simply drag the photo onto the desktop and it creates a file which you can then move elsewhere.
    Some websites don't allow their photo's to be used.
    However OS X has a neat trick, simply hold
    command shift 4
    and a cross hairs appears which you then can take a snapshot of anything on the screen just about, even upload it here with the camera icon.
    there is also command shift 3 which takes the whole screen.
    there are a bunch of others, like to take a picture of the current window etc.
    Finally Quicktime allows video recording of the whole screen, for recording segments you may need something like SnapZPro X still.
