'save as' dialog removes file extensions under Snow Leopard. How do I stop this?

When I save a web page I sometimes use an existing file name as a template to reduce the amount of typing and chance for errors. Before I upgraded to 'Snow Leopard' the file type (.html) was on the file name. Now it is removed. This doesn't happen in Safari. How can I stop this from happening?

Hi hbman-
Here is a Support article on how to troubleshoot file download and save issues:

  • Remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard

    Hello!
    I am experience some problems with QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard in cooperation with Perian and DownloadHelper (a FireFox add-on).
    Every time or better said sometimes I use DownloadHelper with Firefox under Snow Leopard on my MBP a process called "QtKitServer" crashes and I get a black screen.
    And yes, I installed QuickTime 7 on this machine. I also tested this on my iMac (QT X only!) there this doesn't happen.
    This must be a bug in OS X. But I need this tool on MBP without getting any black screens just because of QtKitServer crashes.
    So, I found a solution: I want to get rid of QuickTime 7.
    But how can I remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard?
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello folks!
    I found a work around. A few minutes ago I deactivated the icon preview for "Desktop". And until now everything seems to work.
    It seems to be that in this moment when DownloadHelper and Firefox are writing a file on the desktop who isn't downloaded completly QuickLook wants to access that file, can't understand it, and crashes.
    So it must be a Mac OS X / QuickTime bug.

    I am developing Firefox addons. Ever since the update to 18.0 Firefox is deleting my development extensions/folders from the profile folder when firefox loads, how can I stop this, I am losing work!

    It seems to have stopped not sure if it was a version update or disabling Windows EFS encryption of the profile folders. I have noticed EFS seems to cause issues in general.

  • Clicking on a file name in the Save As dialog removes the extension (.html or .jpg)

    In previous versions of (any) browser I could save a web page, and if there were more than one page, as in a thread in a forum, I used to be able to click on the saved file, "file 01.html" in the Save as dialog, it would show up as "file 01.html" and I could change the 01 to 02 for the second page, ie "file 02.html"
    But now when I click on the file name it shows as "file 01", the .html disappears. Same for .jpg or any other extension.
    This is very annoying, especially when I find a long, multipage thread on a subject I want to read later offline.
    Bug or Feature? Either way I don't like it.
    How can I change it back?
    Thanks,
    David

    I have seen that as well. If I change the name of a .jpg picture I am downloading, I have to add back the extension into the file name. If I do not change the name, the extension is kept.

    You have a Retina MacBook Pro, it runs OS X 10.7 or 10.8.
    It won't run Snow Leopard (10.6) and Rosetta is only for Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC processor based programs when Mac's used to have those instead of the Intel processors they all have now.
    So that software your installing is incredibly old, if you bought it, return it for a refund.
    Also you don't need a anti-virus for OS X, Apple installed one for all OS X 10.6.8-10.8 users.
    If you need anti-virus to clean the Windows files of their malware before passing it on, then the free ClamXav does the job.

  • .bridgesort files appear in CC? how do I stop this?

    .bridgesort files are appearing my asset folder in creative cloud. How do I stop bridge from writing this information into the creative cloud folder?
    cheers!

    It can't be stopped. Or in other words, you can't stop other people sending to your email address.
    Check under '''Tools|Account Settings|...|Junk Settings'''; this has settings for what to do with Junk. I'd set it to move material classified as Junk to the nominated folder.
    And do mark messages appropriately as '''Junk''' or '''Not Junk''' (right click!) to help train the built-in Junk controls.

  • Snow Leopard- How can I stop cupsd from restarting? Trying to edit printer IP addresses

    I want to edit etc/cups/printers.conf to change printer IP addresses in Snow Leopard. I edit after "sudo killall -9 cupsd". cupsd restarts before I can finish the edit. How can I stop cupsd from restarting until I finish editing printer.conf?

    You can try the following:
    sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.cups.cupsd.plist
    Have you attempted to administer cups thru the web interface @ http://localhost:631 ?

    Not much else to add. The print dialog box just opens every time Firefox is started or restarted.

    Check the Home page setting:

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Problems in creating PDFs from Indesign under Snow Leopard

    The Acrobat PDF Printer does not work under Snow Leopard anymore.
    Adobe gives this alternative:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
    After an update to Acrobat 9.1.3 PDFs should now be generated through a new "Save as Adobe PDF" option under the "PDF" button in the system print dialog.
    This does not at all work in Adobe Indesign with it's proprietary print dialog. The PDF-Button is only available in the system print dialog (I know it is accessible from within the Indesign print dialog panel, yet clicking on the PDF button and selecting "Save as Adobe PDF" is ignored).
    To make things worse: If you follow the advice to delete the Acrobat Printer from the "Print & Fax" panel this deletes the ADPDF9.PPD from the Library/PPD folder! You even cannot produce .ps files and distill them manually. Fortunately I was able to restore the ADPDF9.PPD from a backup.
    This is really annoying: How can Adobe state everything works fine under Snow Leopard if you are not able to create PDFs any more? Or did I miss something?

    Hi.
    make this.
    1. Go to the Apple> System Preferences...
    2.  Open the "Print & Fax" preference panel.
    3. Select the Printing tab, to get to the printers list.
    4.  Select the printer "Adobe PDF 9.0".
    5. Click the options and supplies button.
    6. Choose the Drive.
    Now I have reinstalled Leopard. but first like a Drive I have listed only a "Generic Printer".
    I tried to reassign it ADPDF9.PPD but is not recognized and automatically resets to a generic printer.
    So after some  tests that I have found here
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html
    I have reinstall leopard
    This has been my problem.

  • Monitor Calibration under Snow Leopard 10.6.6

    Hello,
    I´m using a EIZO CE 240 W hardware-calibrated monitor for Photoshop and a second one connected with it for the tools, which worked perfectly under Tiger, but doesn´t work properly under Snow Leopard. Does anybody know this problem? When I disconnect the second monitor it works, apparently Snow Leopard doesn´t work with two monitor profiles. The color is too yellow-greenish.
    Please help! Best wishes,
    Peter

    Recently upgraded from OS X 10.5 to Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and am finding that both Quicktime Pro 7 and QT Player X save movies EXTREMELY slowly - like a factor of ten slower than before.  Can't find anything about this, but it can't be right - it's really unusable.
    Are you "saving" or "exporting/sharing" the content? (I.e., what are the containers, audio and video compression formats, and dimensions of both your source and output files?)

  • No 802.11n on early Intel iMac under Snow Leopard

    Hello,
    After installing Snow Leopard on my white Intel iMac (first Intel iMac model) I have lost 802.11n functionality. I had to patch the iMac under Leopard with the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler to get 802.11n working (http://store.apple.com/uk/product/D4141ZM/A). Snow Leopard appears to of changed the Airport Extreme settings, and under system profiler it just shows: ‘Supported PHY Modes as 802.11 a/b/g’
    I can no longer use the 802.11n enabler under Snow Leopard as it comes up with an error message "You cannot install AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." - this is due to an Airport Extreme 2007-002 upgrade being required (http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortExtreme_Update_2007002), which also won't install under Snow Leopard.
    Help! Is this a known issue and will Apple be releasing a Snow Leopard compatible 802.11n enabler? OR, is there a work around/fix under Snow Leopard.
    Essentially, accessing my home server for work is a nightmare as 802.11g is just not fast enough for the media files I work with.
    All help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Graham Johnson.

    I am a bit confused as to which iMac you are trying to use with 802.11n.
    You say that you have the first white iMac that was Intel. But the first three white Intel iMacs do not have 802.11n capabilities; neither the Early '06 Core Duo, the Mid '06 Core Duo, nor the Late '06 Core 2 Duo CD have AirPort Extreme cards capable of 802.11n. But you profile is showing a 2.16 GHz iMac C2D which is Late '06 and does have the AirPort Extreme card with 802.11n capabilities.
    Is that the Mac that now appears to have lost this capability?
    What does Apple say? Did you buy Apple Care? Is it still in its last weeks of warranty?

  • Gremlins in Vsn 1.6.1 under Snow Leopard.

    Have any other users notices graphics gremlins under OS X 10.6.2?
    As the play-bar progresses there are noticeable errors along the display of the time-line itself, like small "holes" in the graphics display?
    Operation seems fine. This issue did not seem apparent under OS X 10.5.8
    Also, as Logic Studio (9) now offers the Apogee UV Dithering algorithm, will we see that in Waveburner too?
    Many thanx.

  • [JS] Need Help Removing File extension (in CS2 and CS3)

    Hello All.
    I have a menu in a dialog that needs to list some file names, but without their file extensions (which will always be .txt in my case). The following is some code that successfully does this in CS3, but I also need it to work in CS2. Do you have any other ways to do this? One code that works in both versions (CS2 and CS3) is ideal.
    myNameWithoutExtensionFunction = function( myNameWithExtention ) {
    myNameWithoutExtension = myNameWithExtention
    myEndOfFileName = myNameWithoutExtension.lastIndexOf( "." )   // get the last period (.) in the filename
    if ( myEndOfFileName > -1 ) {
      myNameWithoutExtension = myNameWithoutExtension.substr( 0, myEndOfFileName )
    return myNameWithoutExtension
    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

    I realized my mistake. The above code works just fine in CS2. My mistake was elsewhere. The name I was sending to this function wasn't being recognized by CS2. Once I corrected that and sent a valid name to this function it worked. So in case someone needs to remove file extensions, feel free to use the above function!
