Save as doesn't show hierarchical in 10.5.8

Just noticed on a friend's computer that when she tries to "save as" there is a short list of available folders in the dialogue box and no reveal arrows next to any of them. Is there a fix for this?

Fix for what? You haven't actually indicated what the problem is.
I'm guessing that you're referring to the fact that you're looking at the 'short' save dialog - the one that only gives links to the common directories, and you want to save to some other arbitrary location. In that case just click the expand triangle alongside the field where you type in the file name. This will expand the dialog to show the fill directory tree and you can navigate to anywhere you like.
Most apps remember the expanded/short dialog setting and use the same format for subsequent saves.

• When I add a new item to my calendar, it saves, but doesn't show on the calendar.

I can add new items to my calendar and create alerts for them; however, whenever I go to the Calendar app and look for items I have created, they never show up. The only way I know the calendar is actually saving the items is because I get alerts when I have them set for and the items are syncing to my Outlook calendar (so I can see them on Outlook), but if I am looking for items on my phone Calendar app, they don't show. This was not a problem until about a month ago. I have shut down and reset the phone several times since the issue has started, but it is still not resolved.

Howdy squeakyred2,
If I understand correctly you are getting the alerts from the events that you are creating on your Calendar app, but they do not show in the app once they are created. It seems to me that the calendar you are adding them to may not be checked, thereby making it hidden. To check this, first open the Calendars app and tap Calendars at the bottom:
Calendar at a glance - iPhone
Then verify the calendars you have showing. It should look similar to this:
Use multiple calendars - iPhone
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

• I am using both PSE 13 and Lightroom 5. When I use Lightroom as an external editor and save the photo, it shows up in PSE13 as an edited file but does not look any different. Why doesn't it appear edited?

I am using both PSE 13 and Lightroom 5. When I use Lightroom as an external editor and save the photo, it shows up in PSE13 as an edited file but does not look any different. Why doesn't it appear edited?

People who have Photoshop, but don't have Lightroom, need ACR so that they can use Raw files. Without ACR they could do nothing with those (they may also like having ACR so that they can work on other kinds of image using the same kinds of adjustments and techniques, as are used with Raw files).
People who have Lightroom, can get access to Raw files regardless whether ACR is present or not. They can use Lightroom on other kinds of image also, using the same methods. LR can pass images directly into Photoshop without passing via ACR (or else does so transparently, which amounts to substantially the same thing).
ACR does not, strictly speaking, even need to be installed for this external editing to happen. In fact, not even PS needs to be - since a different image editor can be used instead, while still retaining the Adobe Raw conversion etc.
Lightroom "subcontracts out" specialised external tasks, in this workflow, but is still your "main contractor": the image is otherwise located, viewed, managed, adjusted/presented and output entirely using LR.
So IMO we can divide image processing into:
operations that involve pixels and layers and layer masks and adjustment layers etc (of the kind done inside Photoshop)
operations that involve parametric edits (of the kind done in ACR where you are not using a Lightroom based workflow; otherwise, done inside Lightroom)
When PS is called in, that's because those tasks are impossible or unsuitable to do in Lightroom. But those tasks can't be done in ACR either - by definition, since LR and ACR have exactly the same image processing "feature set".
Lightroom is irrelevant to the Bridge + ACR + PS workflow. This workflow requires both your PS and your ACR to be current enough, to support your Raw format etc.
ACR and Bridge are irrelevant to the LR + (image editor) workflow. It is in this case, only LR which needs to be current enough to support your Raw format etc.

• URGENT Trying to wipe and reinstall Leopard 10.5 on my 2008 imac8,1 from the disk but my hard drive doesn't show up

So to give a little big of a background on my computer. I got it January 2009 as a graduation gift, because I was going to get a degree in Graphic Design and Animation. I only worked on it [mostly brousing the web, and itunes] for about 6 months because I was taking all of my general courses for college. I then met my boyfriend [late 2009] and moved in with him, my boyfriend has a macbook so I left my mac at my parents house. I was only Using it every now and then and it would be idle/ or shut off the rest of the time.
Fast forward to fall 2011. Me and my boyfriend live in a condo so I brought my computer over because I am now taking graphic design courses and need my computer. I installed a free 30 day trial of adobe cs5.5. It made my computer kind of slow and it froze alot even though I still have over 250gb's of memory in it. After the trial ended I kind of stoped using my computer again, rather installing the free trials of cs5.5 on my mom and my boyfriends macs until I had enought money saved up to buy it.
Here's where it gets tricky.
So now its March 2012 and I tried uninstalling the trial of cs5.5 on my computer since it was just taking up un needed space. I had to uninstall all of the programs one at a time other wise it would freeze up. I have had to hold the power button down to get it to turn off because i couldn't even move the mouse even after waiting a while. Anyhow I get to the last program and it keeps freezing, I tried shutting down my computer via<apple< shut down. But when I start it up again I got a file with a question mark flashing on my screen. So I looked up how to fix that and had to locate where to start up [I selected my hard drive] then I was able to get on to my computer.
So then I go to disk utilitys and do a repair on my internal hard drive to fix if there were any messed up files. After the files are repaired I figure I'll restart it and let everything get up to date. When I do I get the gray screen with the apple and the spinning wheel. This happens OVER and OVER. I tried soft reseting it, manually turning off the computer, you name it. But it still keeps happening. So I figure I'll just wipe it clean and reinstall the whole thing. [I have it backed up on an external drive]
I try to reinstall leopard 10.5 from the disk that came with my computer, all goes well until I gets to the 3rd screen where you select where to save it to, my hard drive doesn't show up. But if I connect my external hard drive it shows up right away. I try seeing if it pops up on disk utility, and it doesn't show up there either.
Is it possible that my hard drive is shot? I haven't really used my computer that much. Its pretty much sat at my parents house for 2 of the 3 years I've had it. So its not like I used it a whole lot.
Help! I'm a college student who needs her mac now more than ever for my design classes!

The battery alone is a $5 to $15 part. Hard drives vary in cost, and depending on the iMac, they may or may not be able to install a third party hard drive, or one resold through Apple. The resold through Apple drives tend to cost more. This article discusses the varying successes of third party drives on iMacs:
http://blog.macsales.com/10146-apple-further-restricts-upgrade-options-on-new-im acs
The labor costs depend on the store as well as the time to get the parts in stock. Call around.

• "Dependecies" tab doesn't show any information for a selected table version 4.0

Hello,
I work with SQL Developer 4.0.0.13. I can see 20 tables in the list. When I select one table, in the tabs on the right side I can see information for "columns" and "data" and "constraints" and "indexes"... but the tab "Dependencies" doesn't show any information about references between this table and other tables in the schema.
Oracle database is v11.2
Can you please tell me what do I need to do in order to see information on "Dependencies" tab for a table?
Thank you,
Milan

Hi, here is my example of XML extension showing referencing tables:
Save the following XML to a file.
<items>

*Referencing Tables

<query>
<sql>SELECT
cfk.owner "OWNER",
cfk.table_name "TABLE NAME",
cols.column_name "COLUMN",
cfk.constraint_name "CONSTRAINT NAME",
cfk.delete_rule "DELETE RULE",
'SQLDEV:LINK:' || cfk.owner || ':TABLE:' || cfk.table_name ||
':oracle.dbtools.raptor.controls.grid.DefaultDrillLink' "LINK"
FROM
sys.all_constraints cpk,
sys.all_constraints cfk,
sys.all_cons_columns cols
WHERE
cpk.owner = :OBJECT_OWNER AND
cpk.table_name = :OBJECT_NAME AND
SUBSTR(cpk.table_name, 1, 4) != 'BIN$' AND
SUBSTR(cpk.table_name, 1, 3) != 'DR$' AND
cpk.constraint_type in ('P', 'U') AND
cfk.r_owner = cpk.owner AND
cfk.r_constraint_name = cpk.constraint_name AND
cfk.constraint_type = 'R' AND
cols.owner = cfk.owner AND
cols.constraint_name = cfk.constraint_name
ORDER BY
cfk.owner, cfk.table_name, cfk.constraint_name,
cols.column_name
</sql>
</query>

</items>
In SQLDeveloper select Preferences -> Database -> User Defined Extensions and click <Add Row>.
In the "Type" field enter "EDITOR" and in the "Location" field enter the path to the file with XML.
After restarting SQLDeveloper You should see a new tab "*Referencing Tables" for tables.

• My external drive mounts but doesn't show in Finder anymore?

I was accessing my iMac external backup drive over the network from my laptop and it suddenly greyed out. Going to my iMac I discoverd that the drive was mounted according to Disk Utility and my backup utility could find it but it doesn't show on my desktop or the sidebar of the Finder window. I can access it thru the Go to Folder menu item. I can then drag items to it but can't save items to it directly since it doesn't show up in Finder. I have checked Finder preferences, restarted the iMac, dismounted (in Disk Utility) and remounted it. I've also eliminated it in Sharing system preferences. No luck on all counts. I connected it to the laptop and it behaves the same way. Doing a Google search turned up the possiblity that it has become "invisible" but I'm confused as to how to change this attribute. I'm hoping there is a simple Terminal command I can use.
Looking for some help here!

Yes I did Eric. Then just found the answer. Volume became hidden and I used a Terminal command.
Thank you for reading my question and suggesting a solution!

• ATV doesn't show all photos in slideshow

My ATV3 doesn't show all my photos in slideshow. It seems to repeat the same, say 50, over and over, even though I have about 400 in the folder on my windows7 PC.
Whats the fix?
Thanks
Andy

For the avoidance of doubt are you talking about the screensaver or the slideshows.
Slideshows should show all your photos, but screensavers will not. Screensavers need to save the photos to the Apple TVs flash storage, the Apple TV doesn't have a lot of this and so limits the number of photos it uses.

• Acrobat 9 typewriter text doesn't show

Acrobat 7 made me a big fan of the typewriter feature. Now that I've upgraded to Acrobat 9, I'm having problems with it. Suppose I add some typewriter text to a .pdf and save it. When I reopen the file, the typewriter text doesn't show. My text is there, but I can't see it. If I click my mouse in an area where I typed, the text comes up. I can double click it and edit it as usual. Then if I click elsewhere, the text I was looking at before disappears. So I can only look at one text entry at a time. The typed text does come out on hard copies.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
In case it matters, I'm running Acrobat Standard 9.0.0 under XP Pro SP3 on an HP Notebook with 4GB of RAM.
Thanks,
Herb

No luck but thanks...

• Artwork doesn't show with version 5.0.1

I updated my ipod with the iOS 5.0.1. The album artwork doesn't show even if they all appears in Itune. Any idea to resolve this problem?

I just ran into the same problem with an iPhone 4S: contact names and photos stopped showing up on incoming calls or in the recent/missed calls list. I took my phone to the Genius Bar and they ran a diagnostic to confirm there was nothing wrong with the phone hardware. Their suggestion, which worked:
Update iTunes to the latest version.
Sync your phone with your computer via iTunes. Make sure that the sync options are selected under each tab (Sync Contacts, Sync Apps, Sync Music, Sync Videos, etc..) so everything is backed up onto the computer.
In iTunes, select the Summary tab for the phone and click on Restore to wipe out the software and restore it.
When the system asks, restore as a new phone (instead of restoring from backup)
Once it's done, walk through the initial phone setup and re-sync your phone to get all of your contacts, apps, music, etc.
The explanation I got was that something in the software got corrupted and if I restored from a backup, the corruption would still be there, so I needed to restore it as a new phone and re-sync my data on to it. Bottom line is it worked, and I hope this saves some time and a trip to the Apple Store for you or anyone else that might run into this issue.
Good luck getting it resolved!

• Metadata conflict: Doesn't show location data

Hello there,
I imported some pictures to Lightroom and edited them there normally. After closing lightroom I edited the location information via GeoSetter (www.geosetter.de). Looking at the images via ACDSee, I see correctly entered City, Sublocation, Procince, Country Code and Country Name in the IPTC data.
Firing up Lightroom 2, I do not see these metadata changes, location fields are all empty. So I click on Synchronize folder and synchronize Metadata. Lightroom now gives all images a Metadata status of "Has been changed". When I click on "Resolve conflict", the location data still is not shown, but actually the location data is deleted when looking at the image again via GeoSetter (or ACDSee) - basically the Lightroom-state-of-things (no locationdata) has been restored I guess. Ok, moving on.
I go back to GeoSetter and reset the location to where it should be, click on synchronize metadata in Lightroom again and the Metadata status is "up to date" - no "resolve conflict" possible, the problem now is:
The location data is STILL in the IPTC fields, Lightroom doesn't show it though, location fields are empty and stay empty even after synchronizing, or Lightroom deletes it as previously stated.
What is the correct way to edit metadata externally and how to tell Lightroom to resolve the metadata conflict by ACCEPTING the external changes and not reverting to the status quo?
Sincerely,
Dennis

>will this method not revert any prior changes made to the images? (e.g. Crop, Keywords, Local Adjustments).
It will, which as you have already figured out, isn't a good idea.
I don't know anything about Geosetter, but my guess is that it's writing the data back into the original photos. Unfortunately, Lightroom doesn't see these changes when Sync folder command is used because it's looking for a Metadata Change date, which is normally stored in XMP. There is a workaround though.
You haven't mentioned the type of files that you're working with, but I'll assume they're raw. If so the workaround is to use the Lr "Save Metadata to file" command before working on them with the external application (Geosetter). This will create an XMP file for each photo that contains all your existing metadata plus any Develop adjustments. Now you can save the new IPTC back to the files using Geosetter. Once that part is completed you can use the "Read Metadata from file" command knowing that all your original Lr metadata and develop adjustments will be copied back along with the new IPTC info.
Above also works with JPEG and TIFF files

• IPhoto doesn't show magnified photos

iPhoto shows only thumbnails and when I doble click on a photo, only change the bottom bar tool, but the display doesn't refresh and the thumbnail photos keep showing on the screen. Also when I select Edit a photo, the display area where it was supposed to show the full size image keep black.
I right click on a photo and choose ->Show File and I see that the photo's path is Macintosh_HD/users/AngelSolorio/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/Madrid/"x".jpg. And the size is 3.1 MB.
However, if I doble click over any image in my Hard Drive, Preview doesn't show anything.
Someone can help me, please?

How are you getting the images into the library? You must import them. This is from the iPhoto help:
In addition to transferring photos from your digital camera, you can import photos from a flash drive, memory card reader, CD or DVD, or other locations on your computer’s hard disk.
If you’re using Mail, you can drag photos directly from an email into iPhoto. To import photos received when using another email client, including webmail, or when downloading photos from the web, first save the photos to your desktop or in a folder on your hard disk.
You can also scan photos and save them on your computer or save emailed photos on your hard disk, and then import them into iPhoto.
iPhoto supports popular file formats such as JPEG, TIFF, and RAW. Other formats also work but are not fully supported.
To import photos without a digital camera:
In iPhoto, choose File > “Import to Library.”
Navigate to the location of the photos you want to import (for example, a CD icon on your desktop or a scanned photo file saved in a folder on your hard drive).
Select one or more photos, or select an entire folder or disk.
Click Import.
You can also drag individual photos or an entire folder from the Finder into the viewing area. If you drag a folder, one or more Events are created based on subfolders and the dates the photos were taken.
IMPORTANT:Wait until all photos have been transferred into iPhoto or click Stop Import before ejecting a memory card, CD, or DVD.
NOTE:Some card readers may not be compatible with iPhoto. For more information, check with the manufacturer of the device.

• IPS MC: It doesn´t show any signature.

Hi.
I had IPS MC 2.1.0 (Build 123) functioning fine. I installed the idsmdc2.1.0-win-CSCsc336961.tar file in order to solve the CSCsc33696 bug. Next, I installed an update signature for IPS version 5 (But I didn´t has any IPS sensor version 5, I just was checking), but the update didn´t work. Afther it, I noted that I have a big issue: When I try to modify any signature, in the Settings->IOS IPS, it shows:
Object loading failed. Errors occurred while loading the Signatures. Not all signatures may have been loaded.
It doesn´t show any signature.
I erased all the sensors, including the IOS IPS. Then I import one of the IOS IPS and follow the instruction for the CSCsc33696 bug. I reimported the device, deployed configuration, disabled the IPS feature in the router and enabled the feature in order to load the signature configuration, but the issue persist. Then, I installed the newest signature update to IDS sensor version 4 (it includes IOS IPS update) and it installed without problems, but the problem in the sigature page perisist.
I reinstalled the IPS MC, but the problem persist. I uninstalled the IDS MC, and installed again without save the database. It shows the application IDS MC and Security Monitor without configuration, like a new installation, but the issue persist!!!
Someone had this problem? Someone know how can I solve it?
Thanks.

The Cisco IOS IPS feature restructures the existing Cisco IOS Intrusion Detection System (IDS), allowing customers to choose to load the default, built-in signatures or to load a Signature Definition File (SDF) called attack-drop.sdf onto the router. The attack-drop.sdf file contains 118 high-fidelity Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) signatures, providing customers with the latest available detection of security threats. • Calendar whole day activities doesn't show

Suddenly a repeating whole day activity in my Calendar doesn't show. It turns up in searches, but that's it. I've never seen this before. I wonder if it could be a setting I activated by mistake, but the whole day field is there, but empty.
Any ideas how to reset invisible or hidden items like this or how to find the cause?

OK, for whatever reason I had turned off "Show Whole day activities" in the Content menu. Turning this on fixed the display of this.
It does of course not make any sense to show the label for whole day activities with those turned off, so I'm making a bug report out of that. One reason being that it doesn't save any space, the other that it is bewildering to not be able to discerna by looking at the Calendar whether whole day activities are shown or if there isn't any for the days displayed.

Since I updated Mac Leopard it seems that when saving a file with Dreamweaver 8 it shows up in the files list but it doesn't show up in the finder when I look at the same folder.
But if I save to the desktop the file is visible and if I save to another folder it's visible. Any ideas why?

Hi harvey waxman;
It was my understanding that anything prior to DW CS3, which is version 9, is not compatible with Leopard.

You need to export the components also. For this, you can export the application(s) having the components, save the .SQL file. Run the .SQL file in your new installation.
