Mac OSX 10.6.2 trying to run Logic 9.1 32bit mode.
I am using the latest version of EUcontrol to run my MC Control AND MC MIX.
Even after a complete reinstall of Snow Leopard and then complete available software upgrades and THEN an install and update of Logic to 9.1 from 9.0 I get the click save-as and spinning wheel of hang... if I use Logic for a period of time- seems random- and then try to save-as the file.
Please help mighty Mac-gods!!!

update
After returning and exchanging my 4th Mac Pro 2.26x8 it appears I get a working one. First, let me tell you that all three of my last mac's were not able to identify themselves in bootcamp; so windows vista 64 could never discover what serious a powerhouse it was running. This new (and hopefully FINAL) one identifies all working parts to vista64 and in-turn, vista64 is running as fast as I've ever seen it. EVER. This points to me not being crazy and having a real hardware issue; I feel somewhat vindicated ;P
As for the Snow Leopard 10.6.2 battle with Logic Pro; the following awesomeness has been achieved (through appcleaning reinstall of logic; even though you'll see in an earlier post that reinstalling Logic was initially of no use): Logic 9.0, 9.0.1 AND 9.0.2 (which I NEVER got working properly) are all stable for me to use WITH my Euphonix mix and control as well as my full keyboard Virus TI.
Logic 9.1 STILL manages to save-as beachball kill me... dunno. In talks with Euphonix and you people here so I'll keep you posted.

    Hi,
    Any update here?
Could you please have a share when using what application to save files, it hangs?
Did we configure any network drive? We may temporary remove the mapped network drive and then check if the save as would work.
For Windows 8 hangs/ freezes, please see if the following support KB could help here:

  • Windows 7 "Save As" hangs in the common dialogue box

All attempts to Save As hang when the common dialogue box comes up.
This hanging occurs with all the Office 2013 programs, custom applications, the lot.
It hangs before I get a chance to key in anything.
All Windows Updates done, Registry Booster says the registry is error free, Microsoft Security Essentials detects nothing, etc, etc.
I have tried several of the suggestions available from the Internet, none of them fix the issue.
From this Forum I see that this has been a problem in the past.
How can I pin down what is actually going wrong please!

    Hi,
This issue can be caused by network locations or printer configuration in your Office.
Please test the steps in following articles:
Microsoft Office stops responding when you try to open or save a file
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/313937/en-us
Excel hangs or becomes unresponsive when saving or closing a workbook
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/04/12/excel-hangs-or-becomes-unresponsive-when-saving-or-closing-a-workbook.aspx
If the issue still persists, please help to collect the event log and app crash dump file and upload here for further research.
First enable app crash dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\EXCEL.EXE]
    "DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\
      00,6d,00,70,00,73,00,00,00
    "DumpCount"=dword:00000010
    "DumpType"=dword:00000001
    "CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
Then, open Excel to repro the issue. If crash issue appeared, please find the crashdump file under c:\.
Please upload this file into Skydrive and shared the link here.
Also, you can try to analyze dump by yourself if you would like to:

  • FileVault 2 vs. Energy Saver – System Hang

I have an SSD primary drive and a secondary drive mounted in the CD bay of my MacBook Pro.  Both drives are encrypted with FileVault 2. If I use the Energy Saver setting to "Put hard disks to sleep when possible", very often when I wake my computer from sleep, it hangs trying to access the secondary drive (where I have my iTunes and iPhoto libraries), and I am forced to reboot.
This seems like a pretty egregious bug in FileVault.  It seems it must discard the key for the secondary drive when it sleeps?  And does not prompt me to re-unlock the drive before it tries to acccess it.  This seems to lock up my entire system.
It seems the only solution is to keep the drive spinning?  Not so good for preserving battery life!

It's not a bug. Your hardware configuration is unsupported.

  • Save Action Hangs After Mavericks Upgrade

I've created an actions script that creates multiple variations of a file. I've been using it for a couple years now but after upgrading to Mavericks it's crashing at the save operations. I can save using the menus but not from an actions script. I found references to save crashes happening when the preview is selected but I'm not using it, just the list of file name.
Is this a known bug and will we see a fix soon? If not I've got to downgrade my OS.

Contacted Apple support. The tech had me go into my Applications folder, select Mail, and Open. It worked! Only difference was I had been trying to open the program by clicking its Dock icon.
Why should this make a difference? Beats me.
He also suggested booting in Safe Mode (hold Shift while restarting), which he claimed "fixes bugs". I will do that but it seems the problem of being unable to get past the "Upgrading Mail database" phase is solved.

First of all, you are still in Learn Mode, as the button on the bottom right is still darkened. Click it so it becomes lighter, meaning learn mode is no longer active. Then proceed to delete all the assignments, in your screenshot I can see the top message is assigned to A#1 (look at the "input Message" values on the right). But the rest of the assignments do not look like you conciously made them, it's a bit of a mess. You should be aware that cmd-L opens the CA-window, and engages Learn Mode, meaning that whatever is the very first MIDI message you send will be "learnt" as a controller assignment, and it will no longer be availbale as regular MIDI. That's how notes can "disappear" if you're unaware of this function. To open the CA window without engaging Learn Mode, use cmd-K.
(and clicking on the smaller picture will present the full size picture, no need to add that extra link.)

  • Pasting from a web page into a File-Save dialog no longer works; causes a freeze-up

When I place an order on Amazon, I copy the order number, then print the invoice to .pdf. When the file save dialog comes up, I paste in the order number as part of the file name. I used to, that is. At some point the pasting part no longer worked: nothing (visible anyway) is pasted, but something is happening, as the file save process hangs, and I have to use task manager to kill it. Then, the print process is trashed - if you try to print again, you get an error - and I have to restart Firefox to clear that.
This copy/paste procedure works fine in IE & Chrome.

The only way I was able to reproduce what you described is to run the script after copying a picture.
    Here is a refined version.
It make two attempts to grab text items from the clipboard.
If both failed, it send an error message.
    --[SCRIPT table2text]
    +++++++
Save the script as an Application or an Application Bundle: table2text.app
Move the newly created application into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Applications by yourself.
Copy your block of datas to the Clipboard.
    menu Scripts > table2text
The Clipboard will be filled with the text or the utf8 component of its original contents.

  • Illustrator hangs when saving .ai files with linked or embedded images

    Hi,
Currently I have a huge problem with Adobe Illustrator. When I place an image file inside an Illustrator document, the program freezes for about 45 seconds when saving. In the beginning I though it was just because my image file was too big, but that wasn't the case.
To test what's going on I created a new document, drew a few lines and saved. No problem, Illustrator saved immediately. Then I placed a bigger image and suddenly Illustrator hang when saving. I repeated this with a very small GIF of just a few kB and again, Illustrator hang for nearly a minute when saving the image. I tried embedding the image instead of linking it, but I still got the same results.
Then I turned of the visibility of the image object by clicking on the little eye symbol in front of the image object and suddenly Illustrator was able to save quickly again. The next thing I wanted to try was turning off compression and PDF compatibility, but then I noticed that Illustrator is actually hanging BEFORE writing the file to disk. When I hit "Save as" Illustrator asked me where to save the new file and then after clicking "Save" it hang (showing "(Not Responding)" in the title bar). About 45 seconds later the save options dialog came up and when I clicked "OK" it saved the file immediately.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? I'm using Illustrator CS5 on Windows 7 x64. The computer is a notebook with 8GB RAM and a switchable graphics card. I tried this on both the integrated Intel graphics unit and on the much more powerful AMD chip. The hard driver I'm saving to is the local hard drive (no network drive etc.).
This is a more or less fresh installation (I haven't used Illustrator before on this notebook) and I can't remember that I had the same problem on my workstation where I used it inside a virtual machine (which doesn't exist anymore).

Yeah, I know that changing the mode results in different colors. I just switched back and forth to check out what's going on.
For CMYK I'm using ECI profiles which are common in Europe and for RGB the normal Adobe RGB 1998 profile. The profiles are synced between all Creative Suite products. I tried sRGB and some of the default profiles which shipped with CS5 but it produces the same result. I also deleted my whole Illustrator profile but without success.
My graphics card doesn't have any updates. But it would be very unlikely anyway that both drivers for both cards had the same issue. If it has something to do with my graphics cards it's more likely the switchable graphics in general.

  • Fonts showing up in Font Book, but not in other apps

This morning, while rummaging through Font Book for something new to use, I discovered that some of my (large) collection of fonts did not show up in various programs... meaning I never think of using them unless I'm actually rummaging through Font Book.
I got onto the Apple support forums and looked at why this might be. I discovered that some of my fonts, for various reasons, were only in the "User" folder, while some that were listed in "All Fonts" were NOT showing up in the User folder. Cleaning this up seemed like a good place to start. I quit Font Book and all other programs, went to /Library/Fonts and ~/Library/Fonts, and moved all the fonts in the User folder into the All folder, as suggested on some answers here. (In addition I changed my Font Book prefs so that new additions in the future will not go to the User folder, but to the main folder and be usable to all.)
    Then, also following answers here,
—I did a Safe Mode reboot
—rebooted again out of Safe Mode
—removed font cache files through Terminal
    —and finally checked Font Book.
The screen shot above shows that all fonts are under "All Fonts" now, instead of some showing up only under All and some, oddly, only under User, as it was before I started the cleanup. Nice and neat. There is no User folder anymore, and I assume that is because it has no contents—User gets what All gets. Seemed like everything worked.
So I opened one of the programs I use to take notes (Microsoft Entourage), just for a quick check...
... and discovered that some fonts which *have* always been usable, are now not showing up. (On the plus side, however, some of those fonts which had been hidden to me—ones that I discovered in my morning rummage—are showing up, so half of what I was aiming for is working.)
I read a few more support forum posts, and saw that some folks have success when they remove the fontbook .plist. So I did this as well, and checked everything again.
Font Book itself is still nice and neat, and appears to be complete, but Entourage and TextEdit, which I chose to be representatives of how this font cleanup is working in real programs, still do not show all my fonts. And stranger still, though most of their problems are the same, each of the programs also has different fonts which are or aren't showing up!! For instance: Aviano Slab, shown highlighted in the screenshot, isn't visible in either program, but Aviano Flare, right above it, is visible/usable in TextEdit but not visible/not usable in Entourage.
Now, to be clear, as far as I know all of my typefaces are currently showing up in Font Book, and about 95% of my fonts are visible in both Entourage and Text Edit, even though the 5% that's problematic is partially the same/ partially different in each. I hope I'm not going to have to open every single program I own to keep checking for variations—hopefully knowing that there *are* variations between programs will help someone to give me a suggestion.
If the 5% that don't work were the exact same, I was going to assume Mac voodoo. My lame workaround was going to be, to manually check my font folder against one program or the other, and copy every font that doesn't show up, back into the User folder. It would take quite a while, and there would be two copies, but at least the ones that are not visible to my programs would (hopefully?) be visible again.
But the ones that don't show up and therefore can't be used are not all the same. So this indicates worse voodoo, some sort of font management issue that I don't get, and it probably means I'd be at this check-and-copy thing forever with each and every program I use. Or, I could waste a lot of disk space, and copy all fonts to User. Ugh.
So I'm hoping that by laying out everything I *have* already tried this morning, someone will be able to spot a step I missed that will help me get Font Book to wrangle these darned typefaces better.
If Font Book *thinks* all fonts are now available to all users, how can I get my programs to agree—and get my programs also to "see" and let me use all of my fonts?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
    Font Book version 3

    Okay!
So, should anyone else ever find themselves with this weird problem, here's what the rest of my day looked like—and yes, I did at last get the problems solved.
First I printed out a list of all my fonts (in the /Library/Fonts folder). Very long. Then I skimmed through the two programs standing in, hopefully, for every program, to try and see if something the problem fonts have in common would jump out at me.
One thing did: all of the "problem" fonts in TextEdit (the ones that didn't show up, in other words) were from a period when one of the type companies I use was automatically installing to a subfolder within the font folder (named with their company's name). Though TextEdit "sees" all the fonts in the Microsoft subfolder, apparently it can't handle other subfolders. So I removed all of these fonts from the company subfolder to the main /Fonts folder, and solved one problem. This problem, oddly, must have been there all along, but who uses a ton of fonts in TextEdit? So I didn't notice the problem until I was troubleshooting today, and thinking that was a nice neutral program to test things in.
But it did nothing for the problem in Entourage, which is where I began my day—even though *some* of Entourage's problem fonts were also in that subfolder, most were not, and the ones that were in that subfolder were still not made visible to Entourage by moving them out of it. So then I scrubbed the long, long list of fonts, looking for all the ones that were not visible in Entourage. Blech. That took a while.
When I got my complete list of missing fonts, I went back to Font Book and validated all of those fonts. I discovered that all but one, share one tiny problem: the "'name' table structure" error. (The final font did have a minor error in validation, but not that error.)
Now I didn't make a list early this morning, so I can't be sure that every one of these fonts was among the ones that started my attempt to clean up and make things right, but I'm assuming they are. I suppose it's possible that during the things I tried to fix the mess today, that one or two fonts actually started working on their own, but probably this list would be the same as one I could have made in the morning, back when I was young and innocent and thought I wouldn't need lists because it was all going to work with ease.
Before I got too excited, I then stopped and validated all the fonts I have. I wanted to make sure that this wasn't an error tons of fonts of mine have, in which case I had not located the problem. But in fact, only the typefaces I couldn't see in Entourage had this error. So I went back to the www to search for what to do about this error.
And in case anyone else needs to replicate my success, this is the site with the fix that worked for me on it:
    http://www.iwebss.com/tech/540-fixing-fonts-with-validation-errors-on-mac
Skip down to where it says "Quick Instructions." Download the program suggested there, and do *exactly* what it says under Quick Instructions and no more (and please, make a folder with copies of any otfs or ttfs you need to do this with before you try the fix, in case it doesn't work for you as it did for me and you need to back up to the old versions).
One note: in those instructions, he doesn't mention that after "Save As," the program may hang up and give you a nasty message about access—just go to the Finder and do a Force Quit, no need to report, open the program again, and carry on. You haven't harmed the font or the program, and it does save before hanging up, so you can just go on to the next font in your list. For some miraculous reason, doing this does repair the "'name' table structure" error (and the error that the one odd font had as well!), and when I reopened Font Book, Entourage, and just for good measure, TextEdit, all of the fonts which had been plaguing me were perfectly visible and absolutely functional.
Thank you, Kurt, for your good ideas here and elsewhere on these forums. You were of great help to me today even before your answered this question.   Though I was so deep in troubleshooting that I didn't get back to see your latest reply, I appreciate your taking the time to try to guess at this very odd hiccup.
Why this error bothers some programs and not others... why it's so easy to fix, with a simple program that you purposely use to make absolutely no changes... who knows. But check your subfolders first, and if that's not the problem, try validating fonts and see if the "'name' table structure" error is at the root of your problems. Perhaps this will work for others.

  • Spinning ball when saving

I have a brand new macbook air.  I just bought pages.  When I save, it gives me the spinning beach ball for 30 seconds.  This happens every 3rd save or so.  I erased the com.apple.iWork   plist files relating to pages... I am not a novice user, but I can't solve this.  Any suggestions would be greatly suggested, otherwise I wonder why I spent the $20 to begin with.  Back to word is not the way i want to go... Thank you for any solutions

Hello, and thank you for trying to help. It is a fresh system, max ram (4gb) 200gb of free hd space, no other apps running.
The file itself is only 8 pages... And it does it with even new docs.
It seems that I can save once, save twice, and on the third save it hangs for 30 seconds.
I got into a "command s" habit where I constantly hit it from using Ms word for many years, now trying to switch to pages
Thank you for any potential help to my problem.

  • Acrobat not responding when saving

I use Adobe Acrobat X and Windows 7 (incase that makes a difference). Everytime I save it hangs and then it says "not responding" and if I leave it long enough it will recover and save. It happens everytime I save a file, doesn't matter how big or small the file is, or where I get it from, if I download it from the internet or create my own. Does anyone know how to fix this?

You might want to try to empty the TEMP folder to see if that is part of the problem.

  • Please help me my RAID problem !!

helloz every body , i have a problem with me motherboard which is MSI k9agm3-fih (ms-7367) that when i configure it to work in raid mode ( options are ide, achi and raid) i enter the utility to define new raid device then i defined my hard disk ( western digital sata 2 320 g.b) as a raid 0 and when i save it hang up and no response then i tried to upgrade my bios to version 1.5 but still hang and no response occure i hope some one help me to solve this prolem  my pc configurations are :
    # CPU brand, model and speed ( AMD Athlon64 X2 5200+ 2.7)
    # Motherboard model ( k9agm3-fih,  MS-7367)
    # Memory brand, (1X2gb kingstone  DDR2-800)
    # Video card brand (built in card ati x1250)
    # Hard drive(s) brand, size, type, speed ( 1x western digital 320gb SATAll)
    # Operating system and version ( Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit)
    # Power Supply Unit brand and output in watts and DC output p4-650 watts

RAID offers many advantages over the use of single hard disks, but it is clearly not for everyone. The potential for increased capacity, performance and reliability are attractive, but they come with real costs. Nothing in life is free. In this section I take an overview look at RAID, to help explain its benefits, costs, tradeoffs and limitations. This should give you a better idea if RAID is for you, and help you to understand what RAID can do--and what it can't do.
As you read on, it's essential to keep in mind that with RAID, it's definitely the case that "the devil is in the details". Most common blanket statements made about RAID like "RAID improves availability" or "RAID is for companies that need fast database service" or "RAID level 5 is better than RAID level 0" are only true at best part of the time. In almost every case, it depends. Usually, what RAID is and what it does for you depends on what type you choose and how you implement and manage it. For example, for some applications RAID 5 is better than RAID 0; for others, RAID 0 is vastly superior to RAID 5! There are situations where a RAID design, hardware and software that would normally result in high reliability could result instead in disaster if they are not properly controlled.

  • AppleTV: Anyone else's rebooting/freezing more often lately?

I have an AppleTV from when they were first released and it's always run just fine. In fact, I actually use it every day I'm home. Recently, say within the last 3 weeks, I've been switch from TV to HDMI on my TV's remote and being greeted with the Apple Logo and a reboot. The other variation is I see frozen photos from my previous session's screen saver just hanging there. I press the AppleTV remote "Menu" button and the disappear to reveal different photos which have apparently been cascading "behind" the frozen photos. Anyone else have either of there showing up on their's? I am running the current AppleTV firmware (2.2 or whatever) and have never installed any hacks to the system.

Well, after creating my 97th user id for this site,
I would agree that freezing in a MAJOR problem. ATV worked so great for my music up until about a month ago. I got rid of my cd player right before this happened as I had not used it since I got the ATV. I have had to reboot several times when the remote did not connect any longer (amber light when menu button pushed). Now the problem is a VERY slow response to the remote, up to a couple of minutes before the menu button is responded to.
The other problem right now is a lot of skipping. Songs play like scratched CDs. Could be from so many times having to turn the darn thing around while it is running to unplug it to reboot it. I am thinking it is skipping mainly when iTunes is booted (there has always been a slight skip when iTunes first boots). This has been very upsetting.
I am also upset about the fact that Apple is taking so long to enable the USB so that I can increase capacity. I do not like the sound of MPGs so I only use AIFF files to get a better quality sound. Also SACDs. I want to hook up a 1TB drive so I can have the thing shuffle all of my 9000 plus songs. 40gb is not enough! I don't want to do a physical HD change out, it would be so much easier to plug in a bigger drive in the back.
Have not watched any TV shows on this since I am already paying DishNetwork for that. Can't beat $15 per month. Waiting to stream those onto ATV from the internet since they are free there.
Some day, ATV will be awakened to be the main multimedia machine that it was intended to be. Apple seems to be trying to kill it by keeping it crippled. I visualize the day that I look at my rack and see just the ATV with a two Macintosh amps and a LCD. No need for a DVD player, cable or sat box, or CD player, turntable or any other stuff.
    Apple, Wake UP!
