Save As in actions

I don't know if this has been addressed in Photoshop 10, but earlier versions don't let you use Save As in an action. Adding the menu command add a Save A Copy command instead.

I work with Photoshop 11, so I can't verify for older versions, but are You sure You didn’t just try to »save as« in file formats that couldn’t handle what the file contained (like layered files as jpgs and such)?
And are You familiar with Image Processor? Not that that would be much help with Actions intended to be applied to one file at a time.

  • Is there a way to save a job action for YouTube upload in Compressor 3.5?

Is there a way to save a job action for YouTube upload? I have about 25 - ten minute clips I want to upload and they all pretty much have the same description and tags. Is there a way to save/make a preset of the job actions that way I don't have to keep inputing the same usernames, passwords, descriptions, tags? Thank you

the method mentioned by benwiggy will certainly work.  If you want to an option that would give you more options, you could use a PDF Service.  You could then put a specific job on hold while still allowing others to use the printer.
You can do this by opening AppleScript Editor (/Applications/Utilities).  You can copy and paste the following into an editor window --
    on open printJobs
    tell application "Finder"
set trapFile to quoted form of POSIX path of (printJobs as string)
    end tell
set defaultPrinter to do shell script "lpstat -d | awk -F: '{print $2}'"
    do shell script "lpr -P" & defaultPrinter & " -q " & trapFile
    end open
Save the file as an Application.  You can name it something like Hold Print Job.  Then just put it in the PDF Services directory in the Library directory of your Home folder <yourname>/Library/PDF Services.  You may need to make the PDF Services directory as it may not already be there.
Once the file is in place, you can use it by using the PDF drop down menu at the bottom left of a print window.  That will send the file to the printer and put it on hold.  Others can still use the printer.  You can then print your file whenever you want.  Just open the print queue as mentioned by benwiggy.  Highlight the job that is Paused.  You will see a little curly icon at the very right (looks like a reload icon in a web browser).  Just click that icon and the job will start printing.

  • Save for web action acting weird.

When I record a save for web action that exports my artboard in 3 file sizes. 100%, 200% and 400% it works for the first few files.
Then suddenly after a while the first export changes its width and height from 100% to 111%, but not just 111% width and height equally. No it pulls it out of proportion too.
When I manually enter 100% again it all pops back to the correct aspect ration.
The 200% and 400% still behave as expected.
If I rerecord it it starts working again. But that defeats the purpose.

I have been using this action for a long time. Also the other options won't run until the first one is finished.
I do this on a file by file basis. So I don't try to run a lot of files the same time.
Illustrator is really bad at changing resolutions in the save for web window if you change it yourslef. It is extremely slow in updating. It doesn't update actually you need to click in a few other fields for it to update. This is for enlarging and downsizing. With small and large images.
If you use an action that has the % prefilled it does it immediatly. So it can do, just not in the window you are supposed to do it in. That is the reason I have to use actions.
The action has been working as intended in all the other CS versions I used. And was working till recently in CC.

  • Word 2010 trying to contact a wrong server on open/close/save and print actions

    Hello.
I'm faced with the Problem that on 1 out of 20 pcs in a department, Word 2010 is extremely slow on open/close/save and print actions.
I know that Word try’s to connect to a server, the Problem is, the server isn't there anymore. (Old Fileserver)
I've already checked the default paths in Word, and they are all pointing correctly to the local drive or the new network drive for the User.
I've also ruled out the files that were opened since they work fine on other PCs.
The system with the error is a WinXP PC with SP3 and Office 2010
It works fine on other WinXP systems with the same setting.
I also tried to reproduce the error on Windows 7 or 2008R2 Servers, but they’re also unaffected.
    Hopefully someone has an idea.
    Thanks in advance.
    With best regards
    Philipp

Yes, I've ruled them out since they were never hostet on the old Fileserver.
But I've finaly found the answer.
After trying the solution from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/280821 i've started to search the registry for references to oure old fileserver and struck gold.
Under HKEY_Current_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options\ was the REG_EXPAND_SZ Key DOC-PATH with the reference to the old fileserver.
After replacing it with the same directorybut on the new fileserver, everything is as fast as it shuld be.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Not able to save order after action execution

    Hi ,
Im facing a peculiar problem where the order is not saved and it runs for ever. What i did..
i have a requirement to  set the status of order to complete when it reaches the zorder_close_date (i created a date rule for this ). Hence i configured an action profile with action  with method COMPLETE_DOCUMENT and put start condition current date = zorder_close_date.. I have put the processing as immediate.
when i test this, the action is executed successfully , but when i click on save it runs for ever and dont save.
I really have no clue why it happens like this, any inputs?
    Thanks,
    Shaik

    Hi Shaik,
You are Executing the Method Call via Action Profile and Changing the Status of the Order.
Since when your Action Executes it Goes in a Loop and doesnot allow you to Save the Order as i get..Have you Tried to Manually change the Status of the Order and save without Execution of the Action..This shall justify you weathe their is a Problem in your Order_Save or your Method_Call.
Also try Setting Processign Time as "1.Process using Selection Report" and Select the Checkbox Schedule Automatically in your Action Defination and check it out if their is a Problem with Action Condition then it shall Present with a Failed Action Processing in your Transaction then.
Also Check your Loops in the Method Call System as understood is not allowing to Save..System on the Status Change instance is going in a Loop and is not able to Exit Loop for Execution of Order Save Instance and so its Directly Exiting.

  • Where do I save a .atn action file? I don't see the proper folder

I have W7 computer, with PSE 10.0;  I downloaded an .atn action file and it is now in my "downloads" folder.  Where do I save this .atn file?   I do not see a Workflow Panels\Actions folder in the PSE 10.0\en-US folder.    The directions say to save it in that place, in order to have the action show up in the Guided Edit panel on PSE 10.0

  • Save for web action

I am trying to automate our process of saving files in 3 different pixel sizes for our website from Illustrator. The problem is when you set the size by pixel, the action picks up the percentage.
I need the files to save within a 400 x 400 pixel square. How can I do this with an Action.
FYI: the same idea works great in Photoshop with bitmap images.

  • 'Save for Web' action does not set transparency for gifs ??!?

I recorded an action that just performs a 'Save for Web' while setting the white background to transparent.
The action does not save/preserve the transparency, in any mode I run it (i.e. Destination None | Save&close | folder).
Is this a known bug ?!? the same exact 'Save for Web' procedure do create a transparent background when performed interactively.
    Thanks, ciao

  • Can't save/update advanced action with specific slide set to jump to

Using version 6.  Experienced with Advanced Actions, but no clue what's causing this.  If I include a "Jump to Slide" pointing at a certain slide in the project the action will not save or update.  I can point at any other slide except the one I need.  Nothing especially unique about the slide in question.

When you save/update, does it give any error/prompt?
Try creating a fresh script just with the action to jump to 'that' slide.
Also check from a regular button, if you can set on Success to jump to the particular slide.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe synce doesn't save added brushes, actions.

Just finished a complete recovery of windows 8.1 and decided to see if synce worked. the only thing it recovered was my workspace. Brushes and actions were ignored even though I told it to back them up. Luckily I had the foresight to copy the preset folder to a backup disk

bump, I realize my post is long, but the main issue is that on subsequent calls to this method, the only line that isn't working is the "Save"  method call. For some reason, it seems that Acrobat is maintaining a lock on the file, preventing a save. So that when I call "Save", the result value is "false" rather than "true", and the save never occurs.
The only solution I can think of is to never save to an existing file. I'd have to come up with a way to delete the current file and then save a file of the same filename in its place, but I haven't implemented this yet and can foresee their being issues with being unable to delete the file if it is being locked. Is this the intended functionality of "Save"? How long would I have to wait for Acrobat to release its lock on the file? Is there a way to cause the file to be unlocked (or saved over) programatically?

  • Including Save command in Action

I'm trying to create an action in Illustrator CS4. The action includes a Save command as the last step in the action.
I want each Illustrator file I run the action on to save to its current folder location (folder 1, folder 2, folder 3, or whatever). However, when I create the action, Illustrator adds a Save As command (rather than a Save command) that saves to a specific location -- the location the file is in that was open at the time the Action was created.
Is there a way to record an action with a Save command that defaults to saving the Illustrator file to whichever folder it is currently in?

    Hai friends,
Is it possible to load "Action" through code or script.
In photshop we can load the action dynamically.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Save audio file action not working in leopard automator

Hi, I would like to convert my aif loops to caf via the following process
    -get selected items (finder)
    -open in sound track pro
    -save audio file
    -close stp
however every time I try to drag "save audio file" into the workflow I get this error message
    * -[NSNull length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xa002a020
I'm using STP as part of logic studio.
Any help would be appreciated. thanks

The real problem here is, why does the Finder have to be so ********! Why all this trouble just to change filenames?!?! Why use automator to do something so simple?!?! I have to use but I hate it!
Please, despite all the Windows problems and faults (and I hate Windows and love Mac), they have a better file manager then we do, because the explorer is a good tool unlike the finder! Why can't we just choose the items and do some "rename" option, or just select all, press "enter" and write what we want (doing a sequential rename by default).
Come on, if windows explorer can do this, why can't we?!?!?
The automator should be used to more advanced stuff, not to just simply rename items...

  • When actions won't "Save As" to same folder

There's a persistent problem where "Save As" Photoshop Actions stay stuck saving files to the same folder where the action was originally recorded. I have a lot of unflattened files in my archives that don't have image previews, instead they have the text alert: "This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image" in four different languages. I eventually figured out that the best way to supply these documents with previews is to "Save As" with the same name, and force my Mac OS to replace them with new files that have OS-generated icons. (Preferences>File Handling>File Saving Options>Image Previews>Never Save)
I made a Photoshop Action to run a Save As on an open file. However, the action permanently recorded the target folder for the original file which I used when I was recording the action. There's no way to edit that out or re-set the action so that the file is saved to its same folder. The only workaround is when you're running the action as a batch operation. Then you can override the action's target folder to anything you want. But I wanted an operation I could use on an individual file, that would be quicker than running File>Save As, hitting Return twice, and closing.
Turns out I'm far from alone in this, as well in my frustration that Adobe continues to not provide any simple way to do this. So I'd like to share the solution I just came up with, using the excellent macro utility, Keyboard Maestro. I assume any other good macro app will allow you to do something similar.
"Photoshop SaveAs" [my name for this macro]
Triggered by any of the following:
The Hot Key ⌘F15 is pressed [the key combo of my choice]
    Will execute the following actions:
    Select Menu Item in Finder
    Select: File ⇢ Open
Activate Adobe Photoshop CS5. [to bring Photoshop to the front]
Pause for 0.5 Seconds [sometimes Keyboard Maestro needs a pause in order to execute correctly]
Select Menu Item in Adobe Photoshop CS5.1
    Select: File ⇢ Save As...
    Pause for 0.5 Seconds
    Press Button ‘Save’
    Pause for 0.5 Seconds
    Press Button ‘Replace’
    Pause for 0.5 Seconds
Select Menu Item in the Front Application
    Select: File ⇢ Close
    [end macro]

Actually I was trying to make you think. I always want to make users think when they write the only way is.  I have a problem believing there is only one way to do something in Photoshop. I know you wrote about batch and I wanted you to think more about it and also about scripting.
I use a PC and You a Mac.  So I not exactly sure of what you want to do. On one hand you write you have many files without previews so right away T think Batch and PSD file with max compatibility so there is a composite preview.  You write about batch but then you write individual file. And you don't want to hit return twice and then close.
Scripting is powerful and since CS3 scripting has plug-in support. So you can record a plug-in script in an action. When you set the setting in the Plug-in dialog they are recorded into the action step and passed to the script when the action is played  so the script bypass displaying its dialog and uses the setting you recorded.
A very powerful Plug-in script was written by X that you can download from Russell Brown's web site.  I believe you can use it to automate your process.  Record something like this in an action.
    Menu File>Automate>Image Processor Pro
Follow that step with a close
Or use the Image Processor Pro to batch all of your images documents files.

  • PS CS4 save action that prevents file clobbering?

    Hello:
Does anyone know of an action step or event script that will alert you to the existence of a file when using non-dialog save commands in actions?
    Scenario:
Suppose I have a "Save" action that points to a specific folder, I then save an image titled XXX into a folder called IMAGES. Then either intentionally or accidentally I get a new (i.e. completely different) image called XXX that I edit and resave to IMAGES via the action. Right now, CS3 and CS4 actions with suppressed save dialogs do not alert you to the existence of a file in the target location. It just saves over it.
I am using function keys to trigger script steps since I have different routines based on image content so batching a directory is not preferred.
The ideal solution would be an "if file exists in path" step.

You will need to write a script to check if the file already exists.
Install the script listener plug-in. Record you save step and check the listener log file on your desktop.
    You can then do a if ( File("fullpathtofile").exists ) { alert ('dont do that'); } else { ... do regular save here ... }
Another option would be to use a unique file name generator so you don't ever clobber a file.
