Save as is gone!

I know it's been a couple years, but I just can't get used to 'Save As' being replaced by Duplicate or save a version. No other software is using it, it makes no sense to change it. It's a giant PIA.

Save As was removed in Lion but was returned in Mountain Lion last year. If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion & Pages 4.2, Mende's directions will work. If you haven't upgraded, do so.

  • Just updated to v3.6.13 and my ability to save bookmarks is gone. Why?

Firefox automatically updated to version 3.6.13 and my ability to save bookmarks is gone. I go to "Bookmark this page" and nothing happens. It happens on both computers I have: Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Mavericks Save As function gone!!

This is the first time I've written in one of these but I'm so frustrated by Mavericks!  I updated and everything that I knew before has changed and has slowed my whole work load down.  First off.......where the **** is the "Save As" funciton now for a document.  The only field I can find in "Rename".  It's a real pain in the butt when an update is made and you have to spend ours on google/trouble shooting sections just to work out how to do simple tasks.  Apple you really aren't making things easy for your regular users.
Can anyone tell me where the "Save As" function has gone?

You can put it back by creating a keyboard shortcut for it.
System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts
and create a new one by clicking on the '+' button.
Make it exactly 'Save As...' and the keyboard shortcut SHIFT+COMMAND+S
Now it will be avaliable in you menu items, or by using the shortcut.

  • Save as package gone?

    Hello!
with the last incarnation of iWork the preference "Save as package" seems to be gone.
I have used this feature to retrieve images mostly from word files to get the original images from a document.
Is there anyone you knows a solution?
    Thanks,
    AW

According to the Pages v5.5 Help, there is supposed to be a submenu entry under File >Advanced > Change File Type > Package, or Single File. It is missing, along with the ability to achieve this change.
    Plan B:
Use the Terminal application. The following will automatically create the Testfolder on the Desktop with a subordinate Data folder containing all specified images found in the Pages v5.5 document. The images will be retrieved case insensitively (-C), listed to the screen as extracted, and if a particular image type is specified, but not found in the document, that will be noted too. Extracted images are not overwritten on subsequent runs of this command sequence on the same file.
    unzip -C ~/Desktop/test.pages Data/\*.jpg Data/\*.tif Data/\*.png Data/\*.gif -d ~/Desktop/Testfolder

  • Save as is gone in Lion

Where did the "save as" go? I just want to save my file as an other name. When I use duplicate, the warning: “Unsaved Pages Document.pages” couldn’t be moved because you don’t have permission to access “Autosave Information”. pops-up! I tried even the "old" commands, but nothing. I even "unlocked" the file in info. Is this because of a setting in Lion? Thanks in advance, Jack

I have used fire fos for years and feel it is vastly superior please help

Ok Guys and gals, Here is a CLUE ! I have the same problem as listed above. Here is the clue, but I don't know how it figures into the scheme of things.
I have 2 users set up for my vista OS. The admin user, Fire fox 6.02 works fine. The second user is my name and its fire fox 6.02 is screwed up. I can load Gmail, yahoo, Boost mobile and others in the second user login. But if I log in as Administrator the Fire fox is fine. Fast, clean and stable.
So Some how my settings in the user #2 is or has corrupted and or changed ! I didnt do it, Firefox somehow changed the settings or became corrupt in my #2 user login account using Firefox 6.02.
Now I have tried to use a new user in fire fox and that did not fix firefox for user #2 on Vista.
I also disabled AD BLOCKER and that didnt help either.
SO my only observation is that the VISTA user #2 account utilizing FireFox 6.02 has changed some how and won't load web pages properly.
Vista User account #1 Fire fox works Fine...
Any idea? how to get user accounts FireFox 6.02 to work properly ?

  • Firefox 19.0.2 save & quit has gone yet again

Yet again save & quit has disappeared when firefox auto-updated to 19.0.2 how do I put it back on again?

You can look at these warn prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page and toggle the value to <b>true</b> via the right-click context menu or double click with the left mouse button.
    * browser.showQuitWarning, see http://blog.zpao.com/post/3174360617/about-that-quit-dialog
    * browser.tabs.warnOnClose, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/About%3Aconfig_entries
    * browser.tabs.warnOnCloseOtherTabs
    * browser.warnOnQuit , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnQuit
    * browser.warnOnRestart , see http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.warnOnRestart
If you use this startup setting then you also do not get the save & quit dialog, so make sure to select one of the others.

  • HT4753 Is there already a rant thread to restore save as button and disable autosave?

I found some threads with users having problems with new autosave and duplicate feature, and none of them contained an answer, and I was asking myself if there is an "Apple give us the save as button" back thread somewhere already.
First of all this autosave behaviour. I really don't want pages or numbers to save every nonsense I may write in a file, sometimes by simply mistyping cmd-v in a wrong window, without me telling it to do so. How dumb is that?
Second, why is the save as button gone? And no, duplicate is not the same, because duplicate doesn't start in the same folder. If I write an invoice to the customer, I take the invoice from the last month, click save as, select new number and change some dates and sums. This means, I did before 10.7. Now I have to find this very invoice on disk, which is not everytime easy to click through, click c&p, create a new invoice, and than i can start working on it. Annoying. If I click duplicate in an open document, it starts with the default folder, which is wrong in 99.99% of the cases.
Alas, the autolocking function on freshly created copies. This is just dumb. Really.
So, what the deal with removing such a simple button as save as?
I was being using iWork for business since 2007, and I have had hard time to convince everyone in the office to be on mac, and just as I achieved that, ... Well, now the people want to move to MsOffice again, isn't it silly? Thank you Apple.
P.S. And yes I tried to live with it for 9 month, but I can't get used to it.
    P.P.S. I don't want to use ms-office....

Of course there's another way of looking at it.

Not Dumb at all. Very intelligent actually. Why on earth should protecting your data require an extra step - saving? All that's happening here is that the app is defaulting to protect the data, instead of defaulting to having the data unprotected. It's common sense that it should take an extra step to trash data, not to save it. What's odd is that no computer up to now has defaulted to protecting the data.
But in fact is acting the opposite way. Instead of protecting my data is trashes the data, by saving when I wanted it not to. Do I actually have to kill the pages from terminal with -9 to prevent it from saving my data?
Maybe other people find it useful, great, then why not just make it optional and let those who do not need it switch it off?

So, to be clear, you're using last month Invoice as a Template, right? So, why do that when you can just use an actual Template? Much more simple. That's what that whole 'Save as Template' command is about.
This would mean that I have to save each and every document I write as template? I have several customers and always write the new invoice based on the previous one (change in adress, other people worked on it, etc). Saving it each time as template and creating a new one from template is not really an easy workaround to the save as thing. And, yes, TextMate, Eclipse and 1000 other programms do offer a save as button, and I never lost any data in it yet...

  • Pages, Numbers and Keynotes doesn't allow me to save documents

I created a new document in pages, numbers or keynote and, when trying to save it to my documents folder, it shows me "Couldn't auto-save document".
I've tried with different folders with the same results.
There's no problem when saving to iCloud.
I had installed iWork'09 and moved it to another folder.
Versions are: Pages 5.2.2, Numbers 3.2.2 with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks in a iMac 27-inch late 2009

Are you running any anti-virus, anti-malware on your Mac? If so, disable this a/v software.
If not, I would suggest the following:
Boot into Recovery (hold command+R at the chime)
Run Disk Utility (verify/repair permissions, and verify drive) on your boot drive
    Reboot normally
Boot into safe mode ( you can do this during the above reboot)
At boot chime, press and hold shift key until horizontal progress bar appears
At login prompt, press and hold shift key, after your password, but before clicking right arrow to log in.Press and hold shift key until your Desktop appears
    Reboot normally
Re-evaluate if Pages auto-save failure dialog gone.

  • How do you put Save as back in the File menu?

I know under File the "save as" is gone. I also know that if you push the option key it will show up under the File menu until you take your finger off the option key. What I want to know is how can you get the "save as" back under the file menu without pushing another key. I had someone tell me how to do it in Mavericks but I can't seem to remember how he told me to do it. I appreciate any help here!
I'm on a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina and running Yosemite.
    Thanks

You can try this or do a Google search to find alternatives.

  • PDF 'File Save' problem in Firefox

Using Firefox browser, when I select a PDF file that opens in a new window [rather than a new tab], save it and close the window, the AcroRD32.exe process is not stopped.  If I then open another PDF file in a similar manner, it can not be saved.  Each time you close a PDF window, you have to go to Task Manager and stop the AcroRD32 process before being abl;e to save a subsequent document.  This does not happen with IE.
Using Reader 10.1.1 and Firefox 8 on a Windows Vista32 system.

Same bug i see in Opera browser. PDFs doesn't saves without stopping AcroRd32 process. And save dialogue doesn't appears when clicking links (even if web browsing function deactivated in adobe reader settings)...
Apart from this File Save problem, there is more strange things while browsing PDF online, like "blinks", hangs, image dissapear, suddenly lags without any reason, browser crashing and more...
So, because adobe reader prevents to download PDFs, and because it works very buggy with online browsing, especially if website uses adobe flash to show PDFs, the only right solution i found is uninstalling adobe reader. After that File Save problem was gone!

  • Save button with PDF form

When update 1 was installed, a Save button appeared that Saved the form to the drafts folder. We are now on patch 1 and the Save button is gone. There is the possibility that some other change made it go away. I would like to get it back. Any ideas?

It happens automatically. You don't need any code to trigger it.

  • I know there has been a very long discussion about 'what happened to save as' but...

Hi I still can't see from spending (wasting) hours trawling through all the posts how to easily execute File, Save as, then choose my file location. I am not a techy person and reading all the posts has simply confused me! I am a normal excell user, who loves Mac products so thought I would buy the iwork package for home use. It certainly has some great features that are superior to excell etc but this simple procedure of saving files is making me regret my purchase.
Even the Mac video tuorial also tells you to go to File/ Save as - if this isn't the case, then Mac should update the video tutorials at the same time they change a feature like this, that is so fundamental to working and saving your files.
Anyway... can someon please, pretty please, just provide me the key strokes to save a file to a location I choose - it could be three or four folders/ sub folders down the line.
thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Save As is gone from :
    iBooks Author
    Keynote
    Numbers
    Pages
    Preview
    TextEdit.
I listed only applications delivered by Apple.
Those available in Mac App Store in the list entitled  "Apps enhanced for OSX Lion" are supposed to drop it too.
Those offerering an optional Save As aren't embedded in this list but may be in this store (GraphicConvert for instance).
    Surprizing enough :
GarageBand and Xcode have a Save As feature.
I don't know for other Apple apps available in this list but would be glad to know if they have a Save As menu item.
