Save as *.jpg instead of *.JPG

Hey People,
I need some help... I have two problems in Photoshop CS5. Is there somebody with a solution.
1. When i open a RAW (.nef) file it always want to save as a .PSD file. In the past always had .jpg as standard. Is there a preference setting to let photoshop always save as a .jpg? I'm talking about files which contain only a background layer, i know when you use multiple layers that it will save as a .psd
2. Photoshop always uses captitals for the extension. Even when i mark 'always use small letters' in the preference panel. It's pretty enoying because I have to send my photo's to a windows based server and it does not reconize files with capital extension. So i don't want .JPG but .jpg... Now i have you rename every file after saving.
Hope somebody can help me.
Lars

i am dealing with the same capital letter file extension problem, and
thats very annoying, as i dont need capital letter file extensions,
i am sending my files to pc servers, and i have to manually rename
every file, i create with CS5 photoshop, in the finder.
it cannot be a problem of the system in my opinion:
when i choose "save as", the first thing i can notice in the "save as window",
is the filename with a capital letter file extensions "xxx.PSD"
when i "save as" in other apps, like indesign or illustrator CS5,
the file extensions are always small case. (also saving files from texteditor, garageband,
logic or any other app will NOT cause any capital file extension.
what can we do now please?

When I mail photos (via GMail) from my iPhone they are received on my PC as .jpg files, even if sent at full resolution.  Perhaps your e-mail service has imposed an attachment size limit, and in the process scales the attached picture down and alters the file extension?
What happens if you e-mail a photo from your iPhone and open the message from a PC instead of the Surface?  What e-mail service are you using? (e.g. your ISP's service, or Yahoo, Gmail, iCloud, etc.)  When you send the photo from your iPhone, are you selecting a reduced resolution?

can anyone tell me how to save a picture as a jpg all the time
when I try to save a picture from facebook it saves as a webarchive and then you can't put it into iphoto

If you are using Safari, control-click on the image. One of the options in the resulting floating menu should be "Add Image to iPhoto Library."

  • Image "drag & drop" saved as .bmg instead of .jpg

    Hi.
Now, recently I was trying to drag and drop some picture to my desktop and I found out that it started to save the image as bitmap instead of jpg.
    Any idea how to fix?

This might be happening if the images aren't in the cache and Firefox uses the expanded image that is currently in memory.
Make sure that the cache is enabled and working, see the about:cache page.<br />
Firefox also has a separate image cache, but I do not know how that cache works.

  • Actions saving as .html instead of .jpg

I have cs6 photoshop and when i use actions the file is being saved as .html instead of .jpg....  please help

I don't know which actions you are using, but if you Save for Web normally, PS gives you options to Save as Image only, HTML only or HTML and Images (typically used for slices).

  • Email attachments download as ashx for Microsoft Outlook, instead of jpg, pdf, doc, etc. Tried to fix in Preferences Applications but still doesn't work.

Using MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Downloaded Firefox 8 on 11/9/11 and now Microsoft Outlook Web App 2010 downloads all email attachments as "attachment.ashx" instead of jpg, pdf, etc. This was not a problem with previous Firefox releases which I've been using for the past couple of years. Can open files if I edit the extension to the proper variety (ashx to jpg for example), but no longer initially automatically opens. Instead I first get a "can't open this file" message.  Attempted to fix in Firefox > Preferences > Applications by indicating the proper "Actions" for various "Content Types" but this had no effect. Chrome and Safari browsers still work properly. How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I'm sorry you are having this problem, here is another post about the same problem, where the cause of the problem is described:

A bug has been filed to track resolution of the issue here, because a true fix isn't yet available:

  • Dragging images to the desktop copies image as .png instead of .jpg

I have nearly identical computers at home and work. Both are XP Pro, with Firefox 3.6.
When I drag an image out of a web page, onto the desktop, my home computer saves/names the image as a .jpg, but my work computer saves/names the image as .png.
I want my work computer to save/name the image as .jpg. How do I change it?

Do you get a real PNG file or a JPG file that has a .png file extension?

  • How to save images as png or jpg?

    Hi!
I just made a picture in the new photoshop cs6 beta and I want to save it in the png or jpg file-format, but there isn`t any possibility I found to save it. In tha Save As-Dialog there are just seven possibilities to save. Without png and jpg.
    Thanks.
    Screenshot:
Ps: I`ll like to save it in the icon (*.ico) format. Is that possible?

You're confusing the total number of bits (8 bits of RGB+Transparency = 32 bits, a misleading number), with the bits per channel (32 bit floating point, which makes RGB+T = 128 bits total).
32 bit PNG is a nomenclature that needs to go away - the number could mean 1 channel at 32 bits/channel, 2 channels of 16 bits each, or 4 channels of 8 bits each. (or more if PNG supported more bit depths)
In Photoshop, you're using bits per channel. You want 8 bits per channel, not 32.

  • CS5 Links - telling the program to look for .psd instead of .jpg

    Hi,
I am using InDesign CS5 to create a book with over 900 images.  For the original book setup, .jpg images were used.  For the final, higher quality .psd versions are being used.  Is there a way that I can tell InDesign to look for the same image names, but in the format .psd instead of .jpg?

Brilliant, thank you!  Forums win again!
If it had a choice to include subfolders, that would be even better, but this will work for me.
    Thanks again!
EDIT:  The "Relink File Extention" option, directly below the "Relink to Folder" option, is exactly what I needed.   Cheers and thank you!

  • How to save 4 artboards as 1 JPG image in Adobe Illustrator?

I am doing an online class for fundamentals of design.
I had to create 4 different designs, so I did this by doing them on 4 different artboards.
I need to save my work for "web and devices..." as a JPG image in Adobe Illustrator (this i can do). But I want to save this assignment as 1 JPG image with all four artboards showing on one image.
Can anyone tell me how to do this step by step.
    Thanks so much!!!
Oh I am using Adobe Illustrator CS5.1

Make a new artboard by selecting the Artboard tool and shift-click where you want it to start, then drag it out to cover all four of the images.

  • Save pdf to folder as JPG fails

I have completed the update process so I am running Yosemite and Aperture 3.6
When I try to use the automator work flow that was installed with Aperture (Save pdf to folde as JPG) , I get an error message that "Retrieve Disk Item References encountered an error"
The workflow will work from another user account and the similar workflow for saving PDF to folder as TIFF works just fine.  I have tried reinstalling the workflow from a backup but it still fails.  Any idea how to get this working back to normal?

I got it fixed with 2 rounds of cache cleaning and pref file removal.  My computer thinks it is 4 in the afternoon and all the menus are in Swedish, but its all good!

Your description of the issue is not clear:
What format, bit depth and color was your original file "from the net"?  It sounds like it was a Color Indexed GIF, which would cause what you are describing.
In the Macintosh Finder, select said "net image" and do a Get Info on it (Command+i). When the Info box appears in the Finder, take a screen shot and upload it here by using the little camera icon in the Reply Editor in the forum's web interface.
If the image is a 256-color GIF, remember the rule:  GIGO = garbage in, garbage out.

  • How can we put .ICO file on JButton instead of JPG or GIF etc. files

How can we put .ICO(Icon file) file on JButton instead of JPG or GIF etc. files
    Regards
    Satinderjit

    Short answer:
You don't. ICO files are a native windows format.
    Workarounds:
    1) Convert your files to GIF.
    2) Search for a library that can load ICO files.
    3) Write a library that can load ICO files.
