Save as / open dialog boxes crashing

Hi, whenever I choose save as, or open and get the finder box window, if I click the drop down tab to show recent items it crashes whatever program I'm using at the time. I'm on an intel 2 x 2.66 with OS X.4.10

Same issue here. Mine happens only when Saving As from within the confines of a web browser (Firefox or Safari). Can not select the drop-down menu of recent Save locations without getting the eternal spinning beach ball, and ultimately having to do a forced Shutdown and reboot. In addition, can't seem to double-click folders any more (in the same Save As dialog box) to burrow down to the ultimate Save location. Must select the folder then use Command/O, select folder, Command/O, etc. until I get to where I want to save the file to. Another side effect of this behavior seems to be that it (the browser? the O/S?) doesn't remember the last Saved-To location upon doing the next Save As. It jumps up a level, or sometimes two, and I then have to burrow back down manually using the select folder, Command/O, select folder, Command/O sequence again.
Not positive, but I don't think this problem manifested as soon as I upgraded to 10.4.10. But is has started "since" that time. Firefox has been updated during that time, but not Safari. I'm thinkin': something corrupt in the O/S? Repair permissions had no effect.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

  • My Mac will not open any 'save' or 'open' dialog boxes

My mac will not open any 'save' or 'open' dialog boxes, this includes saving in photoshop and uploading photos to Facebook. The dialog boxes do not appear - please help?

Since you're running Lion, just try a new system install - it won't affect your data or apps, but you should, anyway, have a backup regardless.
Boot to your Recovery partition by holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting. At the Recovery window, first repair permissions again, then verify and, if necessary, repair your hard drive. Then quite Disk Utility and elect to reinstall the OS anew - it will only overwrite system files and the like, not touching your data, apps, etc. It may take awhile to complete.
After completion, reboot and see if the problem still exists. If it does, I'm just at a loss...

  • Save and Open Dialog Boxes

    Hi,
    Newbie
I have been programing in VB.NET for around 18 months and know that there is an object in the environment that adds an open and a save dialog box onto a form as well as ones for other dialog boxes for other jobs.
However i was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is a set dialog box for opening files and saving files that can be imported into a java application or if you have to design one yourself.
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

You're asking about Java, right? There's JFileChooser which is probably what you are asking about. Note that it is just like the VB one in that it doesn't actually open or save a file, it just allows you to choose the name of the file to be opened or saved.

  • HT6065 Fixing file display speed in save and open dialog boxes

Has anyone else had issues with the speed at which a folder's contents are listed in a save dialog box? I will select a folder when saving a file and it will take 10-12 seconds of the spinning cog before it displays the list of files. Folder contents inside of that display their contents when clicked on right away but the first level selected is always very slow. It was fine in OS 10.8. I did a clean install of OS 10.9.

  • Delay in save and open dialog boxes waiting for Sidebar "Favorites" section

Upgraded Macbook Pro (3,1) from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Lion 10.7.2. Ever since upgrading, when opening or saving documents in any application, the Favorites section in the sidebar is blank for a few seconds, maybe 5-10, and then populates normally. I do have a link to a remote computer's folder in the Favorites, which could be the issue.
Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Photoshop crashes with open dialog box on Windows 8.1

I just upgraded from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1. I have Photoshop CC, I also have Photoshop Elements installed. On occasion, Photoshop CC hangs when using the open dialog box. It then crashes explorer. The only way to resolve it is to restart the PC.
Has anyone seen this behavior. I do not have any logs as of now.
    Thanks,
    Bill Byrnes

I don't know if this is helpful or exactly on topic with this thread... but I have to share somewhere...
I've been dealing this problem for months and I finally fixed it on my own.
My Antivirus, AVG, which is great, except for this glitch, was the root cause of the issue.
History:  If I right-clicked a file in my Save/Open Dialogue Photoshop (CS6 Extended) would crash.. for the last few months, actually...  If I avoided right-clicking I'm ok, but my instincts are to organize, rename, etc. while in the save/open pop-up window ... So I've often crashed Photoshop when all I do is right-click on a file in the list of files...
Well, I figured out the cause of the glitch:
"Permanently Shred with AVG” .. this option, added without my knowledge during an AVG update, was added around the same time this problem started (realizing this in hindsight).. THIS was conflicting with my Adobe Photoshop file explorer window in the Save/Open dialogue!!! After months of trying to figure this out, this is definitely the solution.
Once I turned that AVG Shell Extenstion off.... I am now able to right-click files in Photoshop save/open pop-up window again without it crashing…  finally !!!!
...hope this helps folks even if it's just a related clue to other issues....
Basically ,run command prompt as Administrator, then type:
    For 32-bit :  regsvr32 /u “C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG2014\avgse.dll”
    For 64-bit:   regsvr32 /u “C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2014\avgse.dll”
I found this info about turning off  "Permanently Shred with AVG" option at this link:

  • Save for Web does not open dialog box in PS Elements 8 for Mac

After opening an image and selecting Save for Web, the Save for Web dialog box fails to appear. I've seen similar reports for PS Elements 6 for Mac, but did not find the same files in those directories. Running iMac with OS 10.6.

There are many things that only work in an admin account, but if you're willing to take the trouble, you can change the permissions to allow them to work in a standard account. See:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/362899
Note that it's pretty important to run Save for Web one time in the admin account after changing the permissions or it still won't work in the standard account.

  • Small Icon sizes in Open Dialog Box

When I upgraded from Snow Leapard to Lion I was very impressed that the icon sizes in the File->Open dialog boxes varied in size (per folder) on how you viewed them in Finder. For example, I would set my Finder Pictures folders and contents to a larger icon size to see them easier, then when I would open Photoshop and use the File->Open menu option, the icons would be the same size as how I viewed them in Finder.  It was beneficial to have a larger icon to view pictures when I would use File-> Open in Photoshop to select a photo. Since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, it seems this feature has gone away?? It went back to the way it was with Snow Leapard. All icons are really small no matter how you view them in Finder.
Is there a way to change the icon sizes in the Open/Save dialog boxes to be larger in Mountain Lion? Possibly using the command prompt? Please help?!

I've used the Quicklook to get a larger image, but it's still not as convenient as it used to be with Lion. I'm confused on why the change was made to go back to small icons as a default?  When using Lion, you could have the icon size whatever you wanted.

  • CS3  Design Premium Save As/Export Dialog Boxes Hidden

I posted this originally on the InDesign forum
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b652e3
    - since then, the problem seems to have expanded to the rest of the programs in the CS3 (or it was already existent and I didn't bother testing against it).
    Original Post
'i"Every time I try to save, export, save as, or (recently) even open a new document now, the dialog box opens with the various options for a split second and then disappears. I think it disappears behind InDesign, but cannot be sure as InDesign will not minimize, even when I Force Minimize everything (Windows-H).
'iSearched the forums high and low, and tried all of the suggested solutions. I'm on a single-monitor setup. I have reset preferences, deleted/drug out the Documents and Settings InDesign 5.0 Preferences Folder, re started etc. At my whit's end and don't really know what else to do. Are there any other fixes?"
I know for a fact that Photoshop at least was working fine yesterday (created, saved and saved as multiple layered tiffs). I cannot remember if Version Cue updated just before I left or if I could properly create, save, and save-as then too and it was only after turning it off and returning this morning that it stopped working. Either way, any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Zach

Okay, awesome! I did that and now the Open dialog box is showing - none of the others are though - does this mean that I'll need to go to each of my dialog boxes missing (save, save as) etc., resize in pshop to use correctly in InDesign? What do I do for the dialog boxes that are in InDesign and aren't showing, but are not in Photoshop (ala "Open New Library" or "Open New Book?")
Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Odd thing happening to my Open dialog box in Photoshop

I use Photoshop under Mac OS 10.6.8, and every time I bring up the Open dialog box, the file window (which is always set to List View) has the Name column all scrunched up to the point where all the filenames are mostly hidden. I have to expand the column every time to see what I'm doing. Photoshop is supposed to remember your window settings, but it doesn't for me. The next time I bring up the Open dialog box, the Name column is all scrunched up again. It only does this with the Open box; not the Save box. And it only happens with Photoshop, and only one this one computer. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Photoshop, or the OS, or some third party thing. Anyone have any ideas?

It has everything to do with that thick black arrow on which you wrote RRRGH!

so much wrong with this post...
    a) use the code tags to format the code. Now it is an unreadable mess
    b) scriptlets in your JSP. I don't even want to look at that mess. Learn how to combine servlets and JSPs to create clean, readable and maintainable code in which view logic and business logic are separated. The rule: no java code in your JSP, only tags and EL expressions (learn about JSTL).
So you get a blank screen. When you do "view source" in your browser, do you see anything there? If nothing, check if you are behind a proxy server. The solution to a post of not too long ago was that the blank screen was being caused by faulty proxy server settings (the user figured it out himself, I don't know what was done to solve it).
If all this fails you will have to do some debugging magic using your favorite IDE. It will probably be something stupid you are overlooking in the code. It is annoying, but debugging code that does not work is a big part of your job. Better get good at it.

  • ICloud and Open Dialog boxes not working

I originally posted a question at Open Dialog boxes have disappeared without results. I have some more information now.
The problem: Open Dialog boxes do not work - they don't show up at all - for apps supported by iCloud. Apps that don't use iCloud work fine.
I've now figured out that the Open Dialog boxes will reappear if I uncheck Documents and Data in the iCloud preferences pane. If I recheck it, then the Open Dialogs for all synced apps stop working. I am unable to correlate when this behavior started to any particular event on my Mac (that is not to say there is not a correlation - I simply can't find one). I have done file permission repairs, deleted com plists and even reinstalled Mountain Lion 10.8.2, all with no change in the behavior. The results of checking/unchecking the Documents and Data box are instant. I can have an app like Preview open or closed, or restart the computer. It does not matter. Checked = no Open Dialog; Unchecked = get Open Dialog (without iCloud option of course).

I appreciate all responses particularly from an "Official Adobe" human being!
Unfortunately, a significant amount of effort has been expended with no joy here.
    I have done the following;
    (1) examined every plug-in folder for duplicates - None found
    (2) deleted the symlinks (aliases) Topaz created referencing their plug-ins in /Library/Application Support
    (3) reinstalled the Topaz bundle - no change
    (4) Spoke at length with Topaz support and have been assured that all of their plug-ins are CS6 compatible.
    (5) Have had the same conversation with Nik regarding their 2 plug-ins - assured that they are compatible.
Frankly I'm stumped here. I've combed my system in everyway I can without any change in PS behavior - on Open it defaults to blank and "Save as" selects the wrong format.
Question for the experts. Would deleting PS completely and then reinstalling make a difference or am I now in uncharted territory and on my own?
    Thanks for all assistance,
    Robert
Still need to save as TIFF but can't seem to get there.

  • Spotlight in Save As / Open Dialogs

    Hi!
My MacBook (SL 10.6.1) has some serious issues with spotlight. If I try to use it in a Save As / Open dialog in any application, it seems to be working fine, but the applications hangs right after closing the dialog box. I have already tried to delete finder/spotlight .plist files, rebuild spotlight index, check console logs but none helped.
I have found older topics on this issue, but no solutions there.
    Any ideas?
    THX in advance!
    Regards,
    b3h0ld3r

You've eliminated a local condition as the problem so now you know it is global, something involving the entire system. I've tested this on both my desktop and notebook with Pages, Photoshop Elements 8, and TextEdit and couldn't reproduce your freeze. (They happened to be the programs I had running at the time.)
I recommend reinstalling the OS as a last resort and this may well be the last resort time. Assuming you have forced Spotlight to reindex your hard drive(s), I can't think of anything else to try.
