Save as pdf 1.7 and above in preflight - fixups missing?

Why is the highest version number just 1.6, in the list of available "Save as pdf" fixups?
I'm running CC, Acobat XI pro.
Is it just not recommended to use higher versions? If that's the case, I'll stick to 1.6.
The customer that I'm making this preflight for has previously used the "Make compatible with Acrobat 9.0 and later" setting in the PDF Optimizer (File / Save as Other / Optimized PDF...).
So it's really the equivalent way of doing that in a preflight, that I'm looking for.
Above: the fixups available in preflight, filtered by the word "save". Despite using Acobat 11, save as PDF 1.6 (Acrobat 7) is the newest version there.
Thanks,
Andreas

I don't have a good answer as to why. However, saving a file for backward compatibility if being used by a business is not a bad idea. AA7 is probably adequate with only a few folks using earlier versions of Acrobat or Reader. Unfortunately, backward compatibility can be a problem in some cases if newer features have been used that are lost in the backward compatibility. This is usually an issue with forms. So saving as AA7 compatibility should not normally be a problem, but the file should be checked carefully for all features to be sure it is what is wanted. You might also find saving in a newer version will compress a bit better, but that is an aspect you would have to try to check for sure.

  • Word 2008 crashes when trying to save as PDF

    Ever since upgrading to 10.6, I've been unable to save Word 2008 documents as pdf files from the print dialog. As soon as select "Save as PDF" from the PDF pull down, Word crashes. This doesn't happen in Excel or Powerpoint.
    What's interesting is that if I select the Preview button (next to the PDF pull down in the print dialog), it opens the file using either Acrobat or Preview (depending on how I set things up), both of which let me save the file as a PDF.

    I also have had a few instances where Save as PDF crashed Safari and Firefox. It doesn't happen on the first attempt, after trying to save a few documents in Safari it consistently crashed while using the Save as PDF, I thought it was a Safari problem so I switched to Firefox it allowed me to save a few a more documents and then it crashed.

  • Can no longer 'Save as PDF to iPhoto' from Pages

    Hi there,
    As a process within my business, I create a Pages document in 'Page Layout' format. I then select File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF to iPhoto, and then am able to get the right pixel size, using iPhoto.
    After downloading Lion, I can no longer do this.
    I tried the option of 'Save PDF to folder as JPEG' (thinking I could then 'import' it into iPhoto), but I get the error message of 'The action "Store Disk Item References" could not be loaded because it could not be loacted. Try reinstalling the action.'
    I would LOVE some help as to either work around this, or create a way to do what I used to. It really is important in my business.
    Thanks so much, in advance!

    By the way, I tested a workaround creating my own worflow. It is rather simple and it took about 5 minutes.
    - Start teh Automator Application
    - Select as type for Document "Print Plug-In"
    - In the most left hand Panel select "PDFs"
    - Drag & Drop "Render PDF Pages as Images"
       in the Action Panel (The one displaying "Drag actions or files here to build your workflow")
    - Select Color Model, Format, Resolution and Compression
    Now again in the most left handed Panel click on Library
    In the middle Panel locate the entry "Import Files into iPhoto"
    and drag & drop it below the "Render PDF Pages as Images" action.
    You can leave Existing Album and Events as option. Means
    the document will be imported as Event in iPhoto.
    Now Save the Document (File->Save) as let's say PDF2iPhoto or whatever
    your like. Restart Pages and try it out.
    Creat a Pages document, the File->Print Klick on the PDF Button and select PDF2iPhoto, so the workflow you created.
    Hope this helps!
    Good Luck!

  • Can't open pdf for Reader 9.0 and above on iPad2

    Hi,
    Would greatly appreciate the advice of the experts here.
    My iPad2 can view most pdf documents, but when the pdf requires Reader 9.0 and above, it can't be viewed in the Reader I've installed (which is the latest version on iTunes). Here are the warning note and error message:
    Warning note:

    Hi SGckc,
    This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.

  • Ever since I downloaded Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker and Save As PDF have not worked, but instead cause MS Word 2013 to crash.

         Ever since I downloaded the Acrobat Pro 11.0.09, the PDF Maker has not worked, but instead causes MS Word 2013 to crash. I cannot find the cause or the solution.

    OK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
    The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
    File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
    When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
    If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine.  If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
    In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button.  That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
    The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
    Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
    Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

  • Saving PDF for versions 4 and above

    How can I save a document to be compatible with versions 4 and above of Acrobat?
    FayeC

    Assuming you have the proper version of Acrobat, you can use FILE>Reduce File Size or use the PDF Optimizer in another menu. Both of these allow saving in an earlier version. They may only be in Pro and only in a version newer than what you have.
    A third option is to reprint the PDF with the AA4 compatibility selected. I think there is maybe a forth option in AA8.

  • Using javascript to save a pdf to a different directory and generating a new filename based on form fields in the document.

    I have built the following script in an attempt to create a submit button that will automatically save the document in a different directory on my computer. It will also use the form field data "customer" and "date" to generate the filename. I printed out the variable myPath and it looks like it printed the correct string. I keep getting the following error:
    TypeError: redeclaration of const path
    any help would be much appreciated.
    var customer = this.getField("Customer").value;
    var date = this.getField("Date").value;
    var path = "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/"
      var reg = date.match(/(\d+)\/(\d+)\/(\d+)/);
    var myPath= "C:/Users/awilliams/My Documents/Test/" + customer + "_" + reg[1] + "." + reg[2] + "." +
    reg[3] + ".pdf";
    this.saveAs(myPath);

    "path" is a keyword within a PDF you should not use keywords as a name for any other object as a general rule.
    Have you checked the PDF Reference to see how to create a file path name within a PDF,  3.10.1 File Specification Strings page 118?
    Did you carefully read the Acrobat JavaScript Reference for the saveAs method?
    The notes following the description:
    Note: This method can only be executed during a batch or console event. See Privileged versus non-privileged context for details. The event object contains a discussion of JavaScript events.

  • Trying to save as PDF/A-1a: "Structure tree root entry missing" and "MarkInfo missing"

    I would like to convert born-digital documents originally created in Word 2007 to the PDF/A-1a standard.
    From Word, I am only able to Print to PDF/A-1b. I did that, opened the resulting PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9.3 Professional, and tried running the Preflight to save the PDF as a PDF/A-1a. I received the following two errors:
    "Structure tree root entry missing"
    "MarkInfo missing"
    I'd like to know if there's a way I can remedy this situation, either from the Word doc or the PDF doc. Thank you.

    I imagine that the original poster would like for a solution that simple to work.  I also imagine that s/he gets the same error message I do every time I try to create a PDF from a Word document in the suggested way:
    "Acrobat could not open '[file name].doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF or use the Acrobat toolbar found in Microsoft Office applications."
    Is there any way to convert the PDF you get from printing to PDF to PDF/A-1a successfully?

    I publish a 41mb InDesign newsletter monthly into interactive pdf. It always becomes a file size of 4mb, 10% of original, when I save to pdf. This month my newsletter is 41mb and it drops to 11mb, 25% of original. I have re-sized all pictures, deleted pages separately, have gotten the file size down to 16mb and it drops to 7mb, 45% of original.
    I have gone back and saved Feb and March and it saves to 10% of original, as it did before, and I use the same mechanism to save now.
    I have gone to Acrobat Pro and optimized down to 8.8mb, but the quality is not acceptable.
    What other variable is there that I haven't discovered?

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • When I want to open a PDF document The box that pops up asking if I want to open or save does not come up and it always saves. I need this changed.

    When the window opens to ask if I want to save or not comes up it does so for WORD documents just fine, however, for PDF documents it never asks (it used to). Now it just automatically saves them without asking. I need this changed. I went into applications and changed the setting to always ask but it still is just saving, them no window pops up asking what I want firefox to do with the file like it does with a WORD document. IF I cannot get this resolved I will not be able to continue using firefox. I teach and I have students submitting articles etc in pdf format, I cannot constantly save all pdf files. I just want to open them, review them and then move on. There must be a way to change this so that the window asking what I want firfox to do with the pdf files opens.
    thank you,
    kkwright

    Deleted it, restarted it. tried it again. no change. repeated the whole cycle. no change. thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling, but that won't reallyk change the settings.

    Here is an article from Adobe:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/exporting-publishing-pdf.html
    Export an open document to PDF for printing
    Choose File > Export.
    Specify a name and location for the file.
    For Save As Type (Windows) or Format (Mac OS), choose Adobe PDF (Print), and then click Save.
    When you select the Adobe PDF (Print) option, you cannot include interactive elements in the PDF. To export an interactive document to PDF, see Create interactive documents for PDF.
    Do one of the following:
    To use a predefined set of job options, choose a preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu.To create a PDF/X file, either choose a PDF/X preset from the Adobe PDF Preset menu, or choose a predefined PDF/X format from the Standard menu.To customize options, select a category from the list on the left and then set the options.
    For Compatibility, choose the lowest PDF version necessary to open the files you create.
    Click Export (Windows) or Save (Mac OS).
    To reset options to the default, in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) and click Reset. (The Cancel button changes to Reset.)

  • Printing an iframe with pdf using javascript is not working in IE8 and above

    I have a problem with printing and Iframe with PDF in IE 8 and above
    Following is my javascript:
    var urlValue="";//Path of the file to be printed
    var div = document.getElementById("printerDiv");
    div.innerHTML = '<iframe src="' + urlValue + '" id="frame" name="frame" style="width:100%;height:100%;"></iframe>';
    frame.focus();
    frame.print();
    This same thing is working fine in other browser but for IE is just not invoking the print dialog.
    Also I tried to get the frame.print(); on load of the frame but even that is not working exactly as that way it print the parent window in output.
    Few things I tried like:
    1) div.innerHTML = '<iframe src="' + urlValue + '"
    onload="this.contentWindow.print();"></iframe>';
    2) frame.contentWindow.focus();
    frame.contentWindow.print();
    3) window.document.getElementsByTagName('iframe')['frame'].onload = (function () {
    frame.focus();
    frame.print();
    I need to get the print of only the content which is in Iframe which I am binding in "printerDiv" by javascript.
    Any perfect/different solution from which I have tried then please post here?
    Thanks.

    PDF documents are hosted in an ActiveX or netscape plugin control which have their own printing functions.
    Start>Adobe Reader>Edit>Preferences - to adjust what functionality the PDF document viewer addon displays (menus etc).
    Tools>Manage Addons>Show all addons
    make sure you have both the x86 and x64 versions of your PDF reader Active X control installed and enabled. I would recommend also that you update to the latest version of the vendors' (Adobe?) plugin.
    Possibly you have disabled scripting of ActiveX controls in the IE security zone that your parent page maps to. Also there is an IE security zone feature that prevents navigation to a domain in a zone of lower integrity.
    Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".
    when asking developer related questions it is helpful if you can include a link to your website.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?

    Rather than do that, which means starting over from scratch, losing all your edits, organisation and so on, why not simply use iPhoto Library Manager to revert the Library to the older version? Easier, less destructive.
    The instructions on that are here
    If you really want to start over: you can access the Originals folder simply by going to your Pictures Folder and finding the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
