Save as PDF - Change Author Name?

In any application when you go to Print, Save as PDF is there any way to change the default author name it already has written there?

Unfortunately, that's not the answer that anyone is looking for. It's not changing the author name that is desired, but changing the author name that comes up by default when you save as PDF so that you don't have to select the author field and change it from your username. The goal is to remove steps, not to add steps.

You might need to try this out:
Go to "Edit> Preferences> Commenting" and disable "Always use log-in name for author name" option.
Then, make a comment in the PDF and once done, go to Comment properties (Click on options in the comment pop-up) and the choose 'General' to choose the author name.
Now, accept the changes, click on options again and choose 'Make properties default'.
Now, adding a new comment will now include your name.
Please check and then let me know.

Change author name in properties

I have a PDF created by someone else and I need to anonymise it before sending it on. This means I need to change the author information in the document Properties, but although I can click the author name and highlight it, I can't change it. Has anyone come across this? Does anyone have a solution other than going back to the original author, who presumably would be able to change it?

PDF File - Author Name and Title

Product: Adobe Acrobat Standard Version 8.1.2
Product: Microsoft Access 2003 Windows XP Professional
Problem: When creating PDF documents using Microsoft Access forms as the source, the PDF document is created with a title and author other than what is desired. Thus I have to manually enter the desired information into the PDF document.
Question 1: Where is the default information (author and title) being sourced from?
Question 2: How do I change this default information.

You can edit the Name in Acrobat/Reader's Identity object, but login name is pass from the OS. But changing the Name in the identity object will not change the "Author" name of the PDF. You could try setting the Author/User name in FrameMaker's properties. If that does not work, you can create an Acrobat menu item, tool bar button, or batch process to change the "Author" name value in the PDF's by using JavaScript.

Problem changing author name in commention tools

Hi Forum
Whenever I do commenting in Acrobat 8, it will use my short name as author.
I would like to change that, and I don't want to change properties for each and every comment.
In the Acrobat preferences, I have unchecked "Always use log-in name for Authors name" under Commenting, but Acrobat still uses "Login name" under Identity.
Is there a way to get Acrobat to use the Identity:Name preferences instead?

The name is carried in the 'itunes:author' tag; if, as is usually the case, you are not hand-writing the feed but using a program or online service to create your feed you will need to change it wherever the original name was entered, and then re-publish. Save as PDF changes file hyperlinks

I have a folder containing hundreds of PDF files and a single XLS sheet
as an Index containing hyperlinks to these files
and the hyperlinks in the XLS correctly call Adobe Reader direct.
For portability I decided to convert the XLS to another PDF.
This worked fine in Excel 2003 using the Adobe Add-In from Acrobat 8.1
But when I try the same process with Excel 2010 or 2013 using Save As PDF
I get security errors because the hyperlinks have been modified during the Save As,
The original hyperlinks in the XLS file have the form
file:///C:\..\..\...\a.pdf and this is retained in the 2003 conversion.
and the PDF version the loads the selected PDF directly.
After using Save As PDF in Excel 2010 or 2013 they take the form file:///C|/../../.../a.pdf
This causes the PDF to attempt launch IE and open the PDF in browser after 2 security warnings.
Note the slashes are reversed and the colon becomes a vertical bar.
How to I get the new version to behave like the original?
I am not sure if I have an Excel problem or a PDF problem.

Save as PDF - default file name problem

When I try to Save as PDF from the print dialog box (in Mail, Safari, iWork, etc.) the filename and title both default to:

Then, you might have a mucked up font database. Reboot into safe mode and then reboot normally. That will clear those databases. Note, however, it'll will also clear any font collections you've made with Font Book. Once that's done, launch Font Book, select all fonts, and validate them, resolving all duplicates. If this doesn't fix the problem, then I have nothing else to offer.

Using "Save as PDF" changes fonts

I have some documents in czech in FrameMaker 12. When I print to pdf the documents converts all right, but when using "save as pdf" all arial fonts are replaced with Times New Roman and the entire process seems to use a lot of time and computer memory. The Save as PDF always have been buggy, but some of my customers apparently seems to need this feature. How does one troubleshoot the strange behaviour of font replacement ?

Usual suspects:
AdobePDF printer instance is not set as the default (use SetPrint utility available from http://sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm).
Printer vs. soft fonts (i.e. installed fonts)
Are you using a codepage Arial font for Czech or a unicode enabled version?
Distiller joboptions - embed & subset all fonts; Cancel if embedding fails
Avoid CMYK option with OTF Pro and WGL-TT fonts unless you specifically are creating output for colour press work

You can't "Make" a PDF using Adobe Reader. It's for viewing/printing.
Generally, author information is placed in the PDF at the time it is created by the software being used by the original document. Either that or it can be added later by using Adobe Acrobat.

Prevent Insertion of Author Name in Save as PDF

The standard Print dialogue box features a button/menu "PDF" with a "Save as PDF" choice. By default, the user account's full name is inserted in the Author field when using this option. (I shall not comment on Apple's wisdom -- or lack thereof -- in setting such a default.)

and various solutions have been suggested, some more ingenious than others. However, they do not actually answer the question.
I am aware I can use various methods to remove the metadata afterwards, or use an Automator action, or simply delete it before the PDF file is created, but any of them means more, rather than less, work. So my question is simply this:
How can I modify the default and prevent the OS from inserting the full name in the Author field in the first place?

don't know if this some sort of a display redraw issue:
but if I just hit enter I get the file saved as untitled.wav (which is floating in the middle of the screen not in the correct location)
and the file ends up in "My Music Folder" (which I never use, but can't change folders either)
-good grief I hate M$ for their My . . . crap folders
the system is using similar Intel-GMA integrated graphics as my main workstation
the only difference is processors and the chipset is one generation back
my main workstation has 965ry and the backup has 945g

When I insert books from one serial of one writer into Digital Editions, some of the books give the writer's name, but other are remarked with "unknown". Is it possible in Digital Editions to change author "unknown" into the known name of the author?

Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
