Save as pdf web page

I am running Win 7 64bit with Adobe XI with IE 11. My convert web page to PDF won't save the file as a pdf but rather it saves it as a ".com" file name extension and the file type is marked "MS Dos Application" in Explorer.
I just installed this two months ago and have repaired and reinstalled the software repeatedly without repairing the problem.

There is never a need to type the file name because it's done automatically as the file names takes on the title of the news article.  Under the file name is a toggle for Save as Adobe PDF, which is by default saving as pdf.    FYI, If I print the web page and then choose Adobe, the web page prints but the layout isn't as good as printing the web page and I have to write in the file name using this option.
Usually the Convert webpage to pdf works and works very well but I have had this problem in the past with other versions. It's a bug I believe.
Maybe I will try repair a few more times.

  • Two finger "back" of "forward" swipe in Safari won't work on PDF web pages.

    This is a problem that carries forward from OSX 10.6 when using the swipe gesture on the magic mouse for browsing "back" and "forward" in Safari. It now continues with the mouse and on the track pad in 10.7.  When viewing PDF web pages the 'back" and "forward" swipe gestures work only sometimes, and when they do work, it requires a much faster swipe.  There are no issues associated with clicking on the back and forward buttons at the top left corner of Safari, so this appear to be isolated to gestures.  Is there any solution to correct this inconsistency?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    Indeed, swiping back from pdf pages sometimes works, but most often does not.
    It seems that the swiping gesture has in all cases changed slightly. It is now necessary to swipe a little until a portion of the previous page is uncovered, and only then can one swipe back.
    The fact that there is a specific way to swipe back from html pages suggests that there might be an equally specific way to swipe back from pdf pages. I am still experimenting. Meanwhile make sure no one is sitting to your right in case your trackpad flies off during a gesture trial.

  • Can't print pdf web pages

    using OS 10.4.11, safari 3.1.1, and adobe professional 7.0, I find that although
    I can print most web pages, I can't print a pdf web page.
    any thoughts ?

    where do you make that selection?
    Not sure where in Acrobat Professional, but in the free Acrobat Reader, it's in Acrobat Reader menu > Preferences > (category) Internet > "Display PDF in browser using:" - uncheck the box and that should cause Safari to use it's own PDF display engine (shared with Preview).
    how do I make Safari show scroll command along page side - right now I seem to have lost ability to scroll up and down web page ?
    That's a puzzler - the vertical/horizontal scroll bars should always be there if the page is longer/wider than the current size of the display window... Might try posting that one in the Safari for Mac forum.
    Hope this helps...

  • On my ipad, is it possible to use stylus or fingers to copy and paste a specific area on a document, PDF., web page, etc... It would be great to pull specific areas out of a PDF. And paste into a note app I'm thinking of downloading.  Thank you.

    On my ipad, is it possible to use a stylus or fingers to draw out a specific area to copy and paste;  I'm looking to copy from a word document, PDF., web page, etc... It would be great to pull specific areas out of a PDF. And paste into a note app I'm thinking of downloading.  Thank you.

    Yes. I do it using Adobe Reader for PDF files, Pages for Word files, I can copy from Safari or iCab Mobile and paste into another app. I use my finger even though I do have a stylus. I rarely use my stylus anymore, but yes it's possible.

  • How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there?

    How can I have Safari save my opened web pages when I quit so that when I open next time they will be there? I can do that in Firefox automatically, but can't seem to find how to do it in Safari.  I'm thinking maybe it's just now possible yet?

    From your Safari menu bar click History / Reopen All Windows from Last Session.
    Or..
    Glims can  re open tabs from a previous session if that helps.

    Compatible with Snow Leopard v10.6 and Safari 5+ and it's free.

  • Safari 5.1.5 shows .pdf web pages as black. The same thing happens with Firefox. Does this have something to do with an AdobePDF plug-in?

    Safari 5.1.5 shows .pdf web pages as black. The same thing happens with Firefox, at least with the few pages I've checked. Does this have something to do with an AdobePDF plug-in? I recently had to restore my system from Time Machine backup.

    The following appears to have I solved my problem with Safari 5.1.5, 5.1.6 and 5.1.7. I also have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 installed.
    Follow mbuffy's post dated May 10, 2012 directly above, and
    Do NOT allow Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to perform the "repair" the missing Adobe PDFViewer Plug-in when the window pops up and offers to repair Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plug-in. If Adobe does the "repair," then I can not view .pdf web pages in Safari or Firefox.
    FYI, cmmartin0275 posted the following on Sep 8, 2011 in a discussion of "Missing PDF Pluggin" at https://discussions.apple.com/message/16119130#16119130:
    "Just FYI to anyone with this problem...this is straight from Adobe's website.
    "Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, which will ship with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6 in July. Adobe Reader and Acrobat will continue to work as standalone applications on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6, and will render PDF documents outside of the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins will not function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1."
    They also go on to say they hope to have a solution or work around before the end of 2011..."
    Thanks for the help.

  • Pdf  WEB PAGES  -  MISSING SNAPSHOT TOOL (and others)

    I recently installed Adobe reader 9 and this has been a severely retrograde move. My university course makes ALL our lecture notes and documents avaialble OVER OUR INTRANET (i.e. as WEB PAGES) as pdf documents - we used to be able to simply click on the link and view them in a webpage, then use the Adobe snapshot tool whenever necessary to extract pictures or text from the notes (which often have ENORMOUS variations in font size and picture resolution WITHIN the ONE DOCUMENT) and paste them into a temporary document in order to blow them up and print them out so we can SEE them. They also often needed to be ROTATED before they could be printed out.
    Now however, the Adobe reader 9, when we view these documents IN A WEB PAGE, has NO tools that allow us to do these VERY IMPORTANT MEASURES to make our lecture notes READABLE. All it allows us to do is to print it as it is!
    In an incredibly demanding and intensive course, we now have to WASTE TIME we can ILL AFFORD by saving the document (which we DON'T WANT or NEED TO SAVE) and THEN OPEN it, use the tools which suddenly appear in Adobe reader 9 when opening a saved document, do what we need to do to print out something readable, then remember to delete what we've saved.
    This we have to do OVER and OVER AGAIN - it is UNELIEVABLY INCONSIDERATE and ANNOYING.
    We are already under HUGE pressure in our course, and students in the REAL WORLD do NOT have rich American mummies and daddies who pay all our expenses - we CANT AFFORD to buy every new expensive Adobe program just because our university decides to use pdf for everything.
    If anyone has information that there IS a way to do snapshots, rotation etc on a pdf document VIEWED IN A WEB PAGE, could you please advise us here? Thankyou!

    Thnakyou for your reply - there's definitley no way the uni will change their standard format, and it's really not their fault anyway. I wanted to re-load Adobe 7 but can't find it anywhere on the Adobe website, and do not want to risk loading it from elsewhere!

  • "Save as PDF" from Pages document made it smaller

    I have a following problem: I created a simple CD Cover in Pages 09. Then I printed it on my HP 3055 printer and the dimensions were exact and it fit the CD case perfectly.
    I need to send this CD cover to a friend, so I created a PDF file via Print -> Save as PDF. Then I verified the printing - to my sheer surprise the cover came out of the printer almost 5mm smaller than it originally was.
    I don't want to change (apparantly correct!) size of the CD cover in the original Pages document. I just want a correct PDF out of it. I verified the dimensions of my original Pages document - and it fits A4 paper size on which I'm printing.
    I'm confused. Did I miss something?

    Thanks for your help. Yes, the cover fits rulers. I searched for "Automatic Page Scaling" which I do remember existing in Print dialogs from some applications - however from Pages I found only this in the Print dialogue, which vaguely ressembles to it:

    As you see it is greyed out... Thoughts?

  • I have an issue with saving some pdf web pages. (Am I in the right forum?)

    I cannot save my account statement from my bank's web site using my home laptop. The icon appears when I roll over it but it won't save when I click on it. Right click "save as" won't work either.  I can save it using my work laptop. I can save other pdf's on my home laptop with no issues at all. It's driving me mad. Help please

    Hi,
    I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
    I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
    iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly
    These supported fonts are indicated here => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4980
    Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
    Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
    I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
    Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring

  • Firefox won't save images or web pages, even after upgrading, reinstalling and resetting... How do I fix this?

    A couple upgrades ago, I noticed that Firefox wouldn't boot properly. According to "Task Mgr.", it would load partially with a "*32" after it's name in the listing, but not enough to display a window on screen. After ending the process, and restarting the program again it would usually boot fully. (not always, but usually) The "*32" confuses me as I run a 64bit Windows 7 system and during installation I was sure that I saw mention of a 64bit program being installed. Apparently, after the last upgrade, that issue was resolved; but Task Mgr. still lists the program with a "*32" after it.
    The issue now at hand is that Firefox won't save images online or save web pages. I'll right-click and select "save image as" or "save page as" and... nothing. No box appears prompting me to name a file or designate a location to save that file to. Nor does anything happen when I use the "File" menu for the same function either. This is, to say the least, is very frustrating. There may be other things not functioning that I'm not currently aware of, but I haven't been able to or had time to do a complete check of the functionality of the program. I've never had issues of any significance with Firefox in the past. It's always been very reliable for me, so I'm hoping there's a relatively quick fix that I simply haven't been made aware of yet...
    Thank you for your suggestions and time looking into this matter...
    Curtis Laipple

    It probably will take a little time to work through this troubleshooting article, but hopefully you will get a complete solution: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
    Regarding the *32, I see the same thing on Win 7 Pro x64. No worries. Firefox for Windows is compiled only as a 32-bit application.

  • Providing security to pdf web page.

    How would I provide security to a web page that is a pdf file? Basically I want the user to be able to access the file only if they are logged in. I do not want them to be able to put the .pdf webpage in their favorites and access it without logging in.
    Thanks

    Password protect the pdf?

  • How do I save contents from web page to iWork

    This may be the wrong community so please let me know if it is? I want to save a document from a web page in Safari to iWork on iCloud.com. The document is of my son's USA hockey membership confirmation and I don't know how to save it to iWork or which application to save it to once I do? Numbers, Pages? Thank you in advance..

    I thought I was clear about what I'm trying to achieve... I want to view my document in either Pages or Numbers, because they are on both my Macs and iPhone/iPod touch's.
    Aug 25, 2012 2:57 PM (in response to Winston Churchill)
    It's really just content on a web page but its information I need to have access to across all my devices from a MacBook Pro to iPhone and iPod touch. I want to be able to view it in the Pages iOS app and the OS X app.
    I just need to know the best way to save it, & in the fewest amount of clicks preferably.

    But i dont know how to use it in my problem. If any one know how to do it. reply this.If you have a big, long string with HTML content in it you might try splitting on a regex like so:
    String html = ...
    String[] imgTags = html.split("<img.*?>");[http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#split(java.lang.String)|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/String.html#split(java.lang.String)]
    to get your image tag data and then parsing that to get the src attribute. You can either treat this problem as a big string-parsing problem, or getting some HTML DOM library and using that to structure the page as a tree for easier access.
    If you want more help you'll have to show the code you have so far. We can't write this for you.

  • Cannot save script generated web page

    I found that safari cannot save a script generated page by (File -> Save as). I've written a simple test page as follow:
    <html>
    <body>
    <script>
    function OpenPopUpWin()
    var generator=window.open('','save_win', 'width=645,height=600,resizable=yes,menubar=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,locat ion=no,scrollbars=yes,status=yes');
    generator.document.write('testing');
    generator.document.close();
    </script>
    test (<-this link call the OpenPopUpWin() function)<br>
    </body>
    </html>
    Does anyone have similar problem before? Is it a bug in safari? Are there any workarounds if I want to save the page?

    I guess I'm still not understanding your problem. I took your original script, made the one change as mentioned in my earlier post, and it worked.
    It's quite likely/possible that Apple filter javascript embedded in posts - all sorts of nasty things could happen if they didn't, but you're not using Safaro to create your pages, are you?
    Just as an example, this seems to do what you describe - copy and paste it into a new text document and see what happens:
    <pre class=command><html>
    <body>
    <script>
    function OpenPopUpWin()
    var generator=window.open('','save_win', 'width=645,height=600,resizable=yes,menubar=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,locat ion=no,scrollbars=yes,status=yes');
    generator.document.write('testing');
    generator.document.close();
    </script>
    <a href="#" OnClick="OpenPopUpWin()'>test</a> (<-this link call the OpenPopUpWin() function)
    </body>
    </html>
    </pre>

  • "Preview in Firefox" for pdf web pages but not for file links ?

    Hi,
    I like the preview pdf in Firefox feature but I seem to be having a bit of a problem with it.
    In options>applications I have the pdf entry set to preview in Firefox and when I click a link to pdf webpages they load in Firefox just fine.
    The problem seems to be with download links to pdf files. When I click a link to a pdf file the only options are to save the file, open with my pdf viewer (Foxit Reader) or other. Preview with Firefox is not an option any more.
    I've been trying everything to get that option back.
    I know I have seen it there before but I've no idea how it disappeared.
    Any suggestions?

    The build-in PDF Viewer only works for files that are send as application/pdf and not for other MIME types.<br />
    So it won't work for links that open a download dialog and you would need an extension to open such a file as application/pdf.
