"Save as PDF" - with working Links?

Hi there,
I just realized that when I use the "Print -> Save as PDF" function, it does not save the links into the PDF. Thus, when opening the file into Preview the links within the document don't work anymore.
Any idea how this could be changed?
Thanks for any advice!

How about choosing "Mail Contents of This Page" from the File menu for the alternative?
It enables the current page to save and email to yourself...

  • "Save as PDF" quit working in FM 9

I've been using Save As PDF to create PDFs of our books, and it's worked great. But yesterday, it stopped working. I probably did something or changed some setting, but I have no idea what it could be.
Now, when I click "Set" in the PDF Setup dialog box, FrameMaker quickly runs through the files in the book (the file names flash by in the lower left corner), but then it stops. Turns out, it also creates a .tps file of 0 size in the destination folder. There is no error message; it just stops.
I can still create PDFs with the Print function, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me get Save As PDF working again.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have version 9.0p250 of FM. I also have Acrobat Pro with Distiller. They were installed together.
When Save as PDF was working, the Distiller always came up as a tab on the Task Bar. But it doesn't get that far anymore.
When I use the Print Book feature, the Distiller tab doesn't come up but I see the Distiller icon twirling in the system tray. I assume that's how Print Book is supposed to work.

  • "Save as PDF" doesnt work

Hello I've done a clean install of Snow Leopard and restored my system from Time Machine.
Now the print option "Save as PDF" doesnt work. It doesnt give an error, just nothing happens. What could I do? I've repaired permissions already.

Dig into your preferences folder ( yourUserName/Library/Preferences/) and >look for a plist file with a name such as:
    com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.EPSONStylusNX200.plist
...where EPSON would be the name of whatever printer you have.
Delete that file and try again.
Already done that, the problem persists :S
    Is that option grayed out?
    No, its not.
Might it be putting the saved file somewhere you can't find it?
Do the normal options pop up as to where to save it?
No, nothig pop out, when I click the button nothing happens at all

  • Merging pdfs with internal links

I have merged 2 pdfs with internal links. After they were merged the bookmarks work but the links in the text do not. Any help on this?

    Hi NovaRbt,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat and OS are you using.
How have you merged the two PDFs?
Are those links opening perfectly in the individual PDFs?
    Please let me know.

  • Save as PDF not working - in Preview only

I am trying to password protect a PDF file so I can email it, and tried to use the "Save As PDF" option in File>Print (in Preview) so I could add a password in the Security Options window.  However, when I do this, nothing seems to happen (the application kind of freezes for about 10 seconds or so, and then it's back to the same print screen).  I tested out whether the Save as PDF option worked in other applications (Word, Excel, Safari) and it works fine.  Only Preview seems to be a problem - which is an issue if I want to password protect docs that are already PDF.  Any suggestions?  I'm running on OSX 10.8.2 on a MBP from early 2011.  Thanks in advance.

After I save my pdf document, the links to different pages within the pdf take me to the wrong page. How do I fix it?

May you please elaborate... How are you creating the pdf documents (procedure, software, etc.)? How are you inserting links into your documents?... etc., etc.

  • Save as PDF stopped working since updating

I am using Photoshop/Lightroom Photography CC, Office 2010 on Windows 7 Home (64bit).
Since updating to the latest version of Photoshop in the last week or so, saving as a PDF file seems to have stopped working in Word & Excel.
    Could there be a link?
I'm pretty sure I haven't made any other changes, or Windows updates.
The response from Excel is "Document not saved" and from Word it's "The export failed due to an unexpected error." No other indication of what the problem might be and nothing in the Event Logs.
I have tried repairing Office but that hasn't helped.
Why do these niggles always bite you just when things are at their most stressful!! :-)
    Thanks,
    Roy

OK - I did a Restore to a point the day before the Photoshop  updates were released. The Restore point told me that only Photoshop and Lightroom would be affected. After the Restore Lightroom was indeed at the earlier version but strangely, Photoshop wasn't.
However - the "Save to PDF" in Word & Excel were now working.
I Uninstalled Photoshop, and then reinstalled it and the latest version of Lightroom.
"Save to PDF" continued to work.
There are no Windows updates needed - that's all up to date.
So I have no idea what was causing the problem but at least it's now working and I can get on with things! Something corrupted I guess. But at least it doesn't look like the Photoshop/Lightroom upgrade was anything to do with it!

  • Sending screenshot with working links

I called Apple this morning and got the impression that what I want to do can't be done. All I want to do is to be able to copy/capture a selected portion of the screen and send it to someone as part of my letter. However, the screenshot I send will contain text, picture, and activated links. I want the links in the screenshot the recipient receives to also be activated links. I know how to send the entire page, but my idea was to be able to include working sections from several sites. I think that would be a more interesting and effective presentation. Can it be done?
I've tried Grab, Command key-Shift key-4, and Screenshot Plus, but they couldn't do what I want. I've also written to several companies that sell copy/capture software, but have not yet received their replies.

It may seem simple, but a screenshot isn't much different than if you snapped a picture of your screen with a camera. You wouldn't expect a digital photo taken with your camera to automatically detect and activate links, so why a screenshot?
I'd suggest that you're probably going about the problem all wrong. I'm guessing that you're sending screenshots of either a web page or a document on your computer. In the former case, just send the address of the web page (copy from the browser's address bar) so people can view that page themselves, and in the latter, send either the document or a PDF copy. (You can make a PDF copy by choosing File -> Print, then clicking the PDF button in the lower left corner of the print window and choosing Save As PDF. Note that you can print only a limited page range if desired, and links in the document should remain links in the PDF file.)

  • Print - save as pdf with Aplescript

    Hello,
I would like to know how to script : "Print" with a "save as pdf" on application.
ie: I would like to print a web page from Safari, and select save as pdf to save the page in a pdf format document.
(I don't want to use Adobe...)
    Thanks a lot.

I realized that it still might be a little confusing to figure out how to use that Automator action. So I will give you a step-by-step of mine.
Get Specified URLs->Download URL as PDFs(this is the action I linked before)(Note: I set the where to a temporary folder where no other file will ever be)->Pause for 5 seconds->Move Finder Items(Select a destination folder where you want to have your PDF in permanently)->Run Applescript (A)-> Run Applescript (B) -> Run Applescript (C)
    Applescript (A)
--For whatever strange reason when you create the PDF it names it some random name so I rename the PDF after the current date in the YYYYMMDD format so that you can easily find the PDF on a later date.
    on run {input}
repeat with i from 1 to (count of items in input)
    tell application "Finder"
set thisItem to (item i of input as string)
set thisName to (the name of (file thisItem))
set newName to (do shell script "date '+%Y%m%d'" & ".pdf") as string
set the name of the file thisItem to newName
    end tell
    end repeat
    return input
    end run
    Applescript (B)
--This script deletes the file from the original downloaded location. You have to do this because the previous applescript renamed the PDF and copied it to a new location.
    do shell script "rm /path/to/file/that/was/set/in/the/DownloadURLsasPDF/action/*.pdf"
    Applescript (C)
    --Prints the PDF
    set theLocation to ("path:to:new:location")
set fileName to (do shell script "date '+%Y%m%d'" & ".pdf")
set theFile to theLocation & fileName as text
    tell application "Finder"
    print file theFile
    end tell
I hope this works for you. I use it every day to save a PDF of stock reports. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

  • Save as PDF not working suddenly

As of yesterday, unable to use the *'Save as PDF'* feature in the print dialogue.
Clicking on Save as PDF produces no result window (file name as save location). In fact, none of the options under PDF button works, neither does the Preview button.
Happening with all applications. No font conflicts. Permissions repaired.
Only way to make this feature work now is by
    1. manually deselecting the default printer (Epson)
    2. manually selecting Adobe PDF 9
    3. clicking on the PDF button
    4. selecting Save as PDF select +(not Print: no file is pdf-ed or saved anywhere)+
~ and the original workflow is back (save dialogue box pops up, etc.)
All of this should happen almost automatically, as before. Assume something is broken / corrupted.
Any help would be appreciated, as I use this feature a lot.

Reinstalled SL over current installation and updated to 10.6.1.
'Save as PDF" still doesn't work.
If 'Save as PDF' is an Automator workflow, here's a clue perhaps...
In user>library>pdf services, found a workflow reading 'Save As PDF-X.workflow'. When clicked, opened up the Automator library with the following message:
"The behavior of this workflow may have changed because of the reasons listed below.
The workflow was saved with an older version of the action "Apply Quartz Filter to PDF Documents. Some behavior may have changed."
    Anyone?

  • Save as PDF not working for Numbers, Yosemite

I have a MacBook Pro, running OS X Yosemite (10.10) and Numbers Version 3.5. I'm trying to save a spreadsheet as a PDF document using the Print function, followed by "Save as PDF". The first time I tried this, it complained about the name being longer than 31 characters. I corrected that, and the process appears to finish normally. However, the PDF document does not appear in the destination directory. A subsequent search of my hard drive doesn't show the document anywhere.
A few more details which may or may not be pertinent. The spreadsheet has 2 sheets, but I'm trying to "print to PDF" only 1 of those sheets. I have also told Numbers to "Fit" the sheet onto 1 page (it would otherwise be several pages in size and not very conveniently viewable...it's just a very wide table). Prior to upgrading to Yosemite, I was able to "print to PDF" an earlier version of this same spreadsheet, although that version had only 1 sheet.
Any and all help much appreciated.

  • Cannot access a PDF with a link in IE 9.

We have an application that shows a list of PDF Documents as links with in an aspx page.  When you click on a link it should open the PDF, and it does on XP pcs.  As of tuesday of this week the windows 7 pcs no longer function.   The Windows 7 machines are using IE 8  & 9, on these machines when you click on the link it does nothing, except highlighting it in blue.   Has anyone else expereinced this problem. It is acting like it disabled the click event for these links.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Yes, I was going to post a similar problem as yours.  Is this in a secured site?  I have a similar problem with adobe reader X(10.1), it cannot open pdf files within IE 9 when the site is secured, IE 9 just stays blank no matter how long I waited.  For non secured sites it works most of the time.  There is definitely a bug.
Ex. of secured site pdf reader doesn't work.

  • How can I save a pdf with custom made joboption?

Hi, I'm new here and my english is not perfect so please, don't make me regret I joined this forum
The thing is that I have to print pdfs to pdfs with certain .joboptions and I really have no idea how to that.
I tried to make it by distiller, it printed the error about the 'CheckCompliance out of range' error so I deleted the file and I set all of the options by myself just to realize that distiller won't work with .pdf files. I couldn't find all of the options I need in the Acrobat save menu.
So... is there any solution to print/save pdf to pdf with joboptions I need?
I hope the post is understandable
    Thanks in advance.
