his situation coses my backup to not backup thus files.
any way i can do postscript file directly from the print button?

The file is created with the user's umask permissions. See "man 2 umask" for a description.
Here are some examples of how it can be used.
Hope this helps.

  • Save as PostScript ... not working

    Pages '09 version 4.1 (923), OS X Lion 10.7.1
I am having trouble getting a PDF suitable for use by a professional printer.  Hope you can help me quickly.
In Pages I have a document that is a single page poster.  The page size is set to A0 (1189 mm x 841 mm).
A few years ago, I used to be able to print a PDF/X file directly from the print dialog but all the ColorSync options seem to have gone now.
My printer can distill a postscript file so I chose Save as PostScript but this produces a file with only the bottom left A4 sized portion of the document.
Can anyone suggest how to fix the postscript problem or give me a new way to produce a PDF suitable for sharing with a professional print shop?
    Thanks
    Ian

    Install the abracadabra ColorSync filters:

IMHO you are taking a huge risk using Pages for professional print, there are too many things to go wrong and just about not tools to prevent them.
Unless your A0 poster is substantially vector graphics, it will be monstrously large for a start.

  • Save as list problem

I have a save as/export problem. Im using cs6 for windows and it shows me 6 options for saving as psd, psb, exr, raw, bitmap, radiance and tiff but there is no jpeg or pdf or any other options listed. How can I bring these options to this list? is it a problem like fixing acrobat X with a patch?

    Hi,
Check under Image>Mode as it sounds like maybe your image is 32 bits/channel.
If you switch to 16 or 8 bits/channel then jpeg should become available.

  • Save as pdf vs save as postscript

    hi,
I see a great difference in my screen between: files saved as pdf and files saved as postscript and then converted into pdf.
    My question is:
Does this difference applies when printing?
In other words in order to get the best printing quality (besides of the paper, etc), do I need to save as postscript and then convert to pdf?
    Thanks in advance.

That's a good point about lossless and lossy compression.
The real question becomes are you trying to convert vector into raster, or not. If you are, you do lose some information in the process, because vectors are always approximated by raster. While raster regions can have inside and outside topology that is converted into vector polygon of different topology inside and outside, you don't have direction. Vector back to raster you lose the direction of drawing of vectors if they go from point A to point B.
If you did a pure postscript print job, you'll likely gain more information than PDF to postscript or vice versa. A software called Ghostscript I've heard has a much better rendering of postscript prepress than just PDF. Though I've never tried it myself.

  • Print Save as Postscript...

The page size of my document is 6 x 9. When I "Print > Save as Postscript..." the resulting PS document comes out as US Letter Size.
I can't find a way to specify the output size for PS printing/saving. Any suggestions?

Interesting, not perhaps for you, but from the point of view of technical writing. Why? Because of the difference in the printing philosophy for Mac OS (PS and raster) versus Mac OS X (PDF and raster).
In principle, in a PostScript process you have to have the device parameters as defined in the PDD PostScript Printer Definition at the point when the PostScript program is written.
The device parameters define such things as the format facilities of the device, the paper feed facilities of the device, and the colourant models of the device.
In a PDF process you do not have to have the device parameters at the point when the PDF is written, in fact you try to avoid this by writing the page description at a higher level of abstraction.
Things permitted in PostScript and EPS are prohibited in PDF, including such things as programmed screenings (possible in Photoshop) and transfer curves (possible in Photoshop).
Moreover, in so far as possible you should never (meaning never, never) write out PostScript to disk in order to convert that into PDF. Adobe Acrobat Distiller has been a dead product for a decade because PostScript does not support the intelligent profile model of the International Colour Consortium, the intelligent font model of the Unicode Consortium, or indeed transparency.

  • Illustrator Save to PDF problems

I have Illustrator CS 14.0.0 and Acrobat Pro 9 (9.1.1 to be specific) extended and I cannot save the pdf format from Illustrator. I try over and over and it just does not work... it just locks up Illustrator forcing me to use the Windows XP task manager to kill Illustrator becuase it is simply frozen and I have no other options. The failure is happening with large and small files of any complexity. I would like to make use of the streamlined workflows in CS4... but his problem is big headache - especially if I would like to include special aspects of Illustrator features in the PDF file. The failure happen with save-as and with the basic save PDF. I was able to open (more or less like an import) the .ai file after saving from within Acrobat and that seems to be a work around for now. Is ther any updates for Acrobat or Illustrator to fix this save as PDF problem inside Illustrator CS4??

I am experiencing exactly the same problem as reported in this thread.  I am using AI CS4.  When I try to save to PDF the programme freezes making it necessary to use the task manager to kill it.  I have been trying to identify the folders where the preferences are held but on this computer running windows xp the folder names do not match those in the thread.  Is there a specific file name that I can search for?

  • GIF/Save for Web problem (PSE 7)

I've tried searching for an answer to this problem but nothing seems to address quite what's happening.
I recently had to replace my laptop, and switched from Windows XP to Windows 7.  I transferred PSE 7 from the old system to the new system, and have had no trouble with it- until now.  I have a 52-layer Photoshop-format image that I would like to save as an animated .gif, with each layer as a different frame.  File >> Save As has the option to save Layers as Frames, but if I check it, then click "Save", nothing happens.  Nothing at all.  On my old system, I'd get a new dialogue with options like quality, duration per frame, loop, etc, but that's not happening anymore, and nothing saves (if I go to find the new .gif file, it's just not there). If I DON'T choose "Layers as Frames", the .gif dialogue comes up just fine, and it has no trouble saving as a static .gif.  But it seems that it's just refusing to save it in animated format.
I'm having the same issue with "Save For Web".  Neither the file menu option or the keystroke command will bring up the dialogue to let me save it that way.  It thinks for maybe a second, but then doesn't do anything else, and doesn't save the image.
I've already tried resetting the layout, just in case the dialogue box was shifted somewhere I just wasn't seeing, and I tried resetting the Save For Web preferences, but neither of those things worked.  Any explanation as to why an animated "Layers as Frames" .gif is the only format that isn't saving properly?
I've also tried opening old animated .gifs that I created with XP, and they will not re-save as animated .gifs either.  I get the "Do you want to save the changes made" dialogue, but clicking "Yes" doesn't do anything and doesn't save the updates.  I'm at a complete loss for why this function no longer works.

    Glad you got it working.
It takes some getting use to the differences between xp and windows 7
in regards to permissions and all that stuff. Even when you install
programs on an administrative account, problems still persist sometimes.
What i do is always install programs by right clicking on the installer and
choosing Run as Administrator even when installing on an account with administrative
permissions. I seem to have less problems doing it that way. Anyway, just something to
keep in mind for the future.

  • "Save as text" problem in Reader 9.4.5

    Hello!
I'm trying to save a PDF as text in Reader 9.4.5 under windows and I've run into a formatting problem. Line wrapping within a paragraph seems to be broken, as soft returns are not being converted to spaces. The last word in each line runs into the first word in the next line without either a space or a line break.
A potential workaround would seem to be to copy and paste the full text of  the file into notepad or such, but that converts both soft returns and hard returns into line breaks which is a  formatting nightmare. Using "Paste special" unformatted doesn't help. Both of the PDF to text converters I've tried do the same thing. One of them, SomePDF, got my hopes up when it had  an option to turn off text formatting, but that stripped out all  paragraph breaks as well as the line wrap. Doh!
On a narrower screen than the file's formatted line width (which is the whole purpose of my converting to text) it's actually less annoying to read the file with the words run together than with the broken lines within paragraphs.
The PDF in question was created in either Acrobat PDFMaker 5.0 for Word (the "Application" field in PDF Properties) or Acrobat Distiller 5.0 (Windows) (the "PDF Producer" field in PDF Properties), unless those are confusingly different names for the same application.
I've searched through Reader's preferences without finding anything that  might change this behaviour. Am I missing something? Or is this a bug in  either Reader or the program which created the file? And if it's a bug  in the (Adobe) application which created the file, can Reader be fixed  to handle the glitch gracefully? Either way, will the Adobe folks read this forum or is there some way I need to submit a bug report?
Can anyone shed some light on this problem? And in the meantime, does anybody know of a PDF to text converter that properly converts soft returns to spaces and hard returns to line breaks?
    Thanks, all!
    -Rob

Acrobat Pro provides the means for tagging a PDF that is not tagged.
This can be done manually or Acrobat can be used to get a programmatic "best guess".
Provide you have an understanding of Tagged PDF "manual" gets you spot on.
"Best guess" can be problematic with complex content but can establish a starting point for the requisite manual clean up.
Regardless, Adobe Reader (any version) only provides the ability to view/read (unless the PDF has been "enabled" by Acrobat Pro for specific activities).
However, tagging a PDF or working with PDF Tags is not something Adobe Reader can do.
Spell check - while the post a reply dialog is open there is an "abc (with a check mark) in the upper right. Click it to spell check your pending post.
"Edit" - I believe this is only available during one's current session.  Or, perhaps, while still "in" the thread. (?)
-- well, you can leave the thread, return and use "Edit" - so, current session may be it.

  • "Save As" Dialog Problem

    Hey Guys-
I'm a BIG audition user. I work for Clear Channel Radio, and use audition EVERY day at work.
My problem is at my home studio, I run both Audition 1.5 AND 3.0, and this problem affects both versions.
When I go to save an audio file, or mixdown, I almost always hit "Save As". But when I do this, it takes almost 2 or 3 minutes to pull up the dialog that allows you to put in the file name, and the format in order to save it.
I have Windows 7, 64-Bit with 8gb of Ram. It has ran perfectly for several months, and I haven't had any problems with it until just recently. Any suggestions?? I can't work efficiently if I have to wait 3 minutes for every file to save. I go through almost 60-150 spots every day, and I can't work with the wait time.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
    -Gavan

Is the last place you "saved as" a network drive that is no longer available?
I find that when I take the laptop to the theatre and save a file to the network share there, then bring it back to the studio, clicking Save As has to wait for the network to time out before it finally displays the dialog.  Once I save it to my local drive, the box pops up quickly thereafter.

  • Save for Web problem

I am using 'fit artboard to selected items' feature and everything looks as it should be until I try to export them through Save for Web.
When I do that a one pxl feathered border appears on a file, like in example (border is on left and top of the image).
I can't seem to find what's wrong, so, pls, help!
I'm on MAC, using CS 5.1.

I am saving as .png 24 with transparency and not interlaced.
However, I tried other formats and I see the same problem in all of them.
When I look at the borders in Illustrator Workspace I don't see that feather, but I can clearly see it in preview for Save for Web.
And I also know that it's not the problem with my computer because all other colleagues (there's 8 of us) are having the same issue.
So, I made another example, using just the plain red square and, while in Artboard Tool, clicked on it and Workspace showed that it bounded to square perfectly, but it's not :/
Same transparent 1pxl column on the left and top of it.

  • Can't print entire 11x14 PS (v 8.0) file in "Print-Save as Postscript" - Always crops to 8.5x11

    MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.8
Layered CMYK file in Photoshop v 8.0 (original CS version)
Trying to save this as a .ps Postscript file so I can open up in Distiller and create PDF for 4 color printing @ 300dpi. Doc size 14x11.
    In Preview, everything looks good.
When Print is selected, I get message "Image is larger than page's printable area, some clipping will occur"
Proceeding ahead and saving file as Postscript it's cropped to 8.5 x 11, thus cutting off half of original artwork.
I have: quit PS and restarted, confirmed paper size in Page Setup is set at 14x11, created a virtual PS printer... Nothing is working & I don't see anywhere there's a default page size of 8.5x11.
Also tried creating PDF file in Acrobat 6.0.1 Professional but got error message.
"Create PDF from file" >> "Could not open because it is not a supported file type"
Thanks in advance for your help.

Since Adobe PDF Printer is not available on Snow Leopard all applications that used Adobe PDF Printer to print pdfs will not be able to print pdfs.

  • Photoshop CS3 color management "Save for Web" problem

This problem is getting the best of me.......
After spending 3 full days researching this problem, I am no closer to finding an answer than when I started. I still cannot produce a usable image through the "Save for Web" feature of Photoshop CS3. I have read web page after web page of "Tips, Tricks and Recommendations" from dozens of experts, some from this forum, and still I have no solution... I am exhausted and frustrated to say the least. Here's the simple facts that I know at this point.
I have a web design project that was started in PS CS1. All artwork was created in photoshop and exported to JPG format by using "Save for Web". Every image displays correctly in these browsers (Safari, Camino, FireFox and even Internet Explorer on a PC).
I have recently upgraded to PS CS3 and now cannot get any newly JPG'd image to display correctly. My original settings in CS1 were of no concern to me at the time, because it always just worked, and so I do not know what they were. I have opened a few of my previous images in CS3 and found that sRGB-2.1 displays them more or less accurately. I am using sRGB 2.1 working space. Upon openning these previous image files, I get the "Missing Profile" message and of course I select "Leave as is. Do Not color manage". CS3 assumes sRGB-2.1 working space, opens the file, and all is well.
The problem is when I go to "Save for Web", the saturation goes up, and the colors change. The opposite of what most people are reporting. Here's another important point... new artwork created in CS3 does exactly the same thing, so it's not because of the older CS1 files.
I have tried every combination of "uncompensated color", "Convert to sRGB", "ICC Profile", etc. while saving. I have Converted to sRGB before saving, and my monitor is calibrated correctly.
I have tried setting the "Save for Web" page on 2-up and the "original" on the left is already color shifted before I even hit the "Save" button. Of course, the "Optimized" image on the right looks perfect because I am cheating by selecting the "Use Document Color Profile" item. Why do they even have this feature if doesn't work, or misleads you?
Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening here? Why is this all so screwed up?
CS1 worked fine out of the box.
Final note: I do have an image file I could send along that demonstrates how it is possible to display an image exactly the same in all 4 of the browsers I mentioned with no color differences. It is untagged RGB and somehow it just works.
I am very frustrated with all of this and any suggestions will be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Pete

    >> First of all... I'm using an Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well, no change that I can tell.
This has further confused the issue on several points, not the least of which version PS you are doing this with?
    >> AdobeRGB> Convert to Profile > Working Space sRGB-2.1... all still looks well... but now, when I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... I see the insane oversaturated look that is driving me nuts.
That is your strongest clue...it sounds like you have a bad system or bad monitor profile. To rule out the monitor profile: Set sRGB as your monitor profile in System Prefs> Displays> Color.
    >> Adobe RGB image master... I open it and get the Profile Mismatch Screen... I choose Use Enbedded profile... all looks well. Next I go to Proof Setup > Monitor RGB... again all looks well
That doesn't make sense, stripping an embedded AdobeRGB profile should desaturate the color in Softproof MonitorRGB, especially the reds -- you have something wacky going on there.
At this point I think you need to review the links and get a grip about how color management and profiles work...
BTW, forget about setting ColorSync in PS COlor Settings, use Adobe ACE.
    MO,
I think SFW is fixed under CS3 :) By default it Converts to sRGB and strips the profile.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and 'Save for Web' problem

    Hi everyone,
I have used Photoshop Elements 2 for some time with absolutely no problems. However when I try to use the save for the web option I get an 'export could not be completed due to a program error' message.
Nothing relevant is mentioned on Adobe's support site. After having gone through the usual 9 troubleshooting procedure I suspect that there is a problem with the 'Save for Web EL' plugin located in the PE 2 plugins folder. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way I can somehow find a functional plugin?
Thank you for reading this post.
    PowerBook G4 DVI 667   Mac OS 9.2.x

I don't use Photoshop elements myself, but from Photoshop CS it works fine. I use JPG compression and optimization. First of all - make sure the file format extensions are all available. Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/file formats AND ALSO Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/photoshop elements only/file formats (here I am assuming the paths are the same or similar to Photoshop). Also, check the extensions disabled folder (Control click on Photoshop and go to package contents). If it's none of these, I suggest you check the settings in Elements when trying to save and make sure you are not using an option that conflicts.
Also, check the Adobe forum. http://www.adobeforums.com
    Check for software upgrades also.
You do have enough hard drive space and RAM I assume. If you are using PS Elements and virtual memory is on, you may not have enough phsyical space to save the file (but not likely)
P.S. I see (after i wrote) that you are running 9.2.2 - so the paths will not be the same as if it was on OS X - but they will be similar.

  • BO 6.5 : save as excel (problem date)

    hi,
i've a query result in BO with a date "31/12/2099". This date come from an oracle db file.
I save it into xls (save as) but the result in xls give me "30/12/1900".
It is the same for date greater than 31/12/2099.
    for date < 1900 the result is 01/01/1900 !!!!
I think the problem is to resolve the date in two positions (YY) to four positions (YYYY)
is it possible to bypass de transformation ?
an idea to correct this ?

    Hi,
Following solution might be helpful in resolving the issue.
A workaround for this issue is to select the entire document, go to Edit > Copy All, and then paste it into an Excel spreadsheet. You will get the correct dates and the table will remain in the same format as the original *.rep document. You can then do further calculations in the Excel spreadsheet.
Note: If the *.rep document contains gaps, then they will not be pasted into the Excel spreadsheet unless you use "Paste Special". If you do this, then you will be able to view the data but you will not be able to do further calculations in the Excel spreadsheet.
