"Save As..." problem in OSX Mavericks

When I try to "Save As..." or open a file the "Save As..." dialog box will often point me back to my Documents folder, instead of the folder that I most recently opened or that the document I am working on originated from. How do I fix this? It used to be that when I pressed "Save As..." the dialog box would come up and point me to the folder that the file originates from. Thanks!

Thanks wallfur,
It believe it is something that must be solved by the developers, and it's a great idea to go to there website and post the issue.  When you do, please remember my issue with the save as dialog (and also with the 'Open" dialog is that the dialog box always opens at the same small default size and place.  Please add to your posts that we want it to open at the the same size and location it was when we last closed it.  It's all part of the same issue.
My specific issue is with Photoshop.  In a work session I scan a hundred or so images in to Photoshop, crop them, work on them and then Save as them.  Each time I open Save as, it opens to a folder containing hundreds of sub-folders and I'm forced to enlarge the dialog window to find the folder I want to save to.  I Save as every 3 to 5 minutes or so and it's a big pain to have to resize that window every time.  And I'd like the window to be on the right hand side of the screen so I can still see much of my other work.  I will post my issue to Adobe.  Please, and anyone else with this issue, post wallfur's issue (what folder opens with the window) and my issue (what size window and where) to the site of the developer you have the issue with.  It's all part of the same issue.
Thanks,
Jerry

  • Sharing problem from OSX mavericks to windows 7

I want to acces a windows 7 shared folder with my mac. I have schared the windows folder and have given full permission to evereyone.
The workgroup name, login and pasword are the same on the MAC and Windows 7 PS.
I have don a ping test and the result was ok, i've tested with another windows pc and i could connect to the shared folder, just with OSX mavericks it will not work.
    What could be the problem?

I think Apple disabled the Internet sharing, I have a Airport Express and was sharing my internet with my other boxen that need a Ethernet cable to download wifi drivers and one software update later it just stopped.
I think I saw that theory posted elsewhere on the internet. I would think that it would be some software bug rather than Apple giving a no-go to sharing over an adhoc.

  • Time synchronization problems in OSX Mavericks (V10.9.2, latest patch)

We have set the Date&Time preference  to pool.ntp.org.
The problem is, that during the day the mac server runs behind the correct time. So we have some problems between the serveral mac servers and their installed services. The servers do run all the time. No sleep options are activated.
We have tried to do it with some terminal commands like:
ntpdate -b pool.ntp.org but without success. We got the error:
3 Apr 08:24:27 ntpdate[23520]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting
How can we set the Date&Time preference in OSX Mavericks, that the time and date is always in synch with e.g. pool.ntp.org.
Thanks for your tipp in advance
    Ritzo

That command won't do anything when ntpd is already bound to a server, which it is. I'm suggesting you change the time server setting in the Date & Time preference pane.

  • Sync problem after OSX Maverick updating

since updating my Mac with OSX Maverick, blackberry sync is not working. Always getting the info " currently your computer sync is turned off, please turn on" . How can I do that ???

The Blackberry software is incompatible with Mavericks.

  • Having problem downloading osx maverick

Been downloading osx maverick it shows downloading, been all night downloadingr so where did I go wrong?

It could be due to one of two reasons.
1/.   Maybe your computer isn't ready or capable for running Mavericks.
2/.   If you can run Mavericks, then try downlaoding it in the early hours when there's not much internet traffic around.  Mavericks is a big download and these forums over Christmas have been full of people getting into difficulties downlaoding the files.
I know when it was launched it was difficult because everyone wanted it, but it went a dream for me before 6am and never had a glitch at all.  Good luck!

  • Problems with OSX Mavericks - How do I return to previous operating system?

I installed OS X Mavericks on my iMac. Now Safari, Mail, iPhoto, basically all software, hangs up as soon as it is opened. Nothing runs.
Also I have this constant request for keychain password which I haven't set up. I tried the fix I found online, but as soon as I click on "mail preferences" Mail hangs up and I have to force quit the program.
I have re-installed this software 3 times now. It has not functioned properly yet. Thank goodness Firefox still works.
    Any solutions out there?

Apple doesn't seem to know how to "fix what's wrong".
I spent about an hour yesterday with Apple Tech Support. No solution.
I had a mbp running Mountain Lion and iPhoto 8.1.2. Perfect harmony.,
I purchased a new mbp from Apple, running Mavericks. It has iPhoto 9.5.1 on it.
When I started up iPhoto, it told me that my previous iPhoto library was not compatible and that I needed to "upgrade my iPhoto database"
I click on that link, and iPhoto stops responding.
Tech support walked me through various attempts at solving this problem, but all attempts failed.
After about an hour, neither the original tech nor the supervisor who took over had figured out what to do.
They told me that, as a last resort, they could save the photos in my old library and be able to use them with iPhoto 9.5.1, but I would lose all the organization (albums, folders). How is that acceptable, Apple? It's a big deal to me. They kept telling me that this was a very unusual case, but if you google "mavericks iphoto problem" you'll see lots of other people having Mavericks/iPhoto issues. They told me that I had a corrupted iPhoto database, but that database works just fine in Mountain Lion with iPhoto 8.1.2.
Supervisor is supposed to call me Sunday afternoon to follow up on this ....

  • Pages 5.1 giving a 'Couldn't auto-save document' error on OSX Mavericks 10.9.1.

I was working on a class assignment, which was stored on iCloud and was working great until I noticed that instead of the ' -Edited' tag beside the file name stood a peculiar 'Not Saved' tag. When I tried to manually save the updated version, it's giving me a dialogue box error saying 'Couldn't Autosave document'. I am able to work through the document and make changes and print, but it isn't saving. Even if I try to export its giving me the same Dialogue box error. Please advice, this is the first time I have come across such a problem in using Pages in the last 7 years.
This is on a mid - 2010 Macbook Pro 13".
Thank you for considering my question.

Bah!!! I have only just experienced this issue (along with a billion other issues in Pages, but I'll leave that for another day!).
Thank you to all the great suggestions here, which didn't quite work, but led me to something that did.
I tried this and it didn't quite work:
"Hi! There seems to be a workaround for this (I've had this problem too, you'd think Apple'd sort it out?!?!)
At the top of your Pages document is the name of your document. Hover your mouse over this briefly and a drop down arrow will appear. From here you can name the document, give it a Tag and choose the save destination. Click this drop down arrow, and select your save destination from another drop down that will apear. After you have clicked on your selected save destination, click away from the drop down. Then, simply save (Cmd+S OR navigate to file>save) and it will have saved for you!"
    But this worked for me:
I clicked on the drop down arrow, like suggested above, and changed the document name. Then I clicked on the 'Where' drop down menu and went right down the list and clicked on the 'other...' choice right at the bottom of the list. I chose a different location and then clicked 'Move'
For some unknown reason this worked for me where the other suggestion didn't quite work.
I've had to find so many work arounds like this in Pages recently, which you shouldn't have to do!
The only reason why I am persisting with pages is it save my clickable links when exported to PDF, where the Word program doesn't.
I hope these issues get sorted before I thrown the computer out the window due to pure frustration!

  • A sign in problem with OSX Mavericks

Every time I start the computer I have to sign in again. I do not need this protection and how can I change this to what I had before?

I was a a little too hasty. Several times after your latest, I had to go back to reenter the info I entered since the computer make me sign in to start again. (this even after I relocked the changes.) Then another problem arose. I always just put the Mac to sleep and don't completely turn it off. For the last two times I cannot get it to wake up and have to shut it off and start all over again. I now wish I never downloaded this new OSX.
    Any ideas about this?

  • Webmail problems with osx mavericks

    hi,
since upgrading to mavericks i have problems using my work microsoft webmail on both safari and chrome – on chrome the pop-up window to add attachments no longer works; on safari it barely works (i have to open the attachment pop up twice before i can upload an attachment), where it also keeps crashing. outlook webmail light is not an option...i just want to get my outlook webmail to how it was before with mountain lion!
    please can anyone assist?

We've been expereincing a similar thing:
first attempt brings up a standard looking OS X file choosing dialog box which does nothing after you pick a file
the 2nd attempt brings up the expected OWA attachment chooser dialog box and we can then attach normally
We've told our users to switch to Firefox/Chrome (or enjoy attaching things twice).
    Have you seen any solutions?

  • OSX Mavericks bluetooth wake up problem

    Hello there,
i have a weird problem with osx mavericks on imac 27" late 2011.
From the prefresneces of bluetooth, i choose not to wake up if i press a key or click my mouse. The thing is that the xomputer actually wakes up! So i guess that the setting isn't stored.
Anyone with the same problem or a solution? thanks in advance!

Have you tried a SMC reset?   Pop out the battery, press and hold powerbutton for 5s then put back battery, connect magsafe and press powerbutton again.

  • Serious problems in Illustrator CC with OSX Mavericks: Open, Place and Save windows don't stay open

I just upgraded to OSX Mavericks. After that, Illustrator started acting up. When I try to save or open a file, or place an image, the command window opens just for a second or two then closes right away. Even the Save shortcut doesn't work. I've saved the file a few times using Command-S, when I was closing it I got a warning that I had to save it. Of course, I couldn't save it using Save As or Save commands because their windows wouldn't stay open, so I had to just close it. When I opened it again, it was an older version; Illustrator just ignored my last two or three saves.
I tried restarting the computer and relaunching Illustrator, nothing worked. The problem was worse when I have InDesign open too. But just quitting InDesign didn’t always work. This morning, I had to quit and relaunch both InDesign and Illustrator a few times before the problem temporarily disappeared.
I think it might also be worth mentioning that I use Apple Trackpad, and my computer is brand new.
Is anyone else having similar problems? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks. But I always have the List View.
One lame thing worked though. I would hit the command short cut and keep hitting it for a few times. This forces the command window to stay open, and it actually helps getting ridding of the problem temporarily.
I also had a similar but nastier problem in Acrobat. I tried to save a Photoshop PDF file in Acrobat, the Save As window opened and closed right away. Then all the command menus went gray; non of the commands was available including Quit. The only option I had was to force quit Acrobat. However, I didn't have this problem when handling native Acrobat files. The good news is that my lame solution worked.

  • Has any experienced problems with Parallels 9 after OSX maverick 10.9.5?

After install OSX Maverick 10.9.5, Parallels 9 will not load..... any comments?

    Hey....
Save yourself a lot of time and trouble..... buy the upgrade to 10....($50). I did this and "problem solved".....  I tried the Parallel's support before and they could not fix the problem on loading the original software... I had to use my own experience to get the product loaded.... I hope this problem does not present itself during other major upgrades....
    Lots of luck...
