Save as PSD no longer saves in compatibility mode

When saving a psd file I can no longer save in "compatibility mode". I'm using a Mac computer with OSX (version 10.8.3)  and Photoshop CS6 (version 13.1.2 x64). I just noticed this problem tonight when I tried to bring a psd file into a MUSE project. Now whenever I save a PSD file the menu that asks if I want to save in compatibility mode doesn't appear (it just saves the file). I've reset the preferences and restarted my computer but Photoshop still doesn't give me a compatibility mode option when saving a PSD file.

I'm saving multi layered files (not files with only a background layer) for import into Adobe Muse (normal, roll over, mouse down and active layers). My file handling for "Maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility" is set to ask but I did try changing to always when I started having issues and it didn't change anything. I'm pretty experienced with Photoshop so I've tried the obvious solutions. So far my only fix is to start my project form scratch and I'll be able to save the file correctly. I really think I've triggered a bug at some point in creating my project (changing the image size or something along those lines) because it doesn't always happen.
Thanks for the suggestion, conroy.

  • Bulk save as psd file not saved with Maximize Compatibility selected in preference

I want to do a "bulk save as" for psd files that were not saved with Maximize File Compatibility selected in Preferences. I'm trying to import those files into LR5 but I get an error message. Or is there a work around for resolving this issue? I have both PS CS6 and PS CC. Also Bridge for both. I've just subscribed to LR5.

LR does not support Layers, PSD files may have layers so you may have a problem using LR to do what you want to do.
Set your Photoshop Preferences to always save with Max Compatibility.
Record a save action one step menu File>save.
Then use Adobe Bridge menu Edit>Find to find all your PSD files.
Then select all and use menu Tools>Photoshop>Batch  and if your lucky and don't catch an Adobe Bug Photoshop will start and the Batch dialog will open,  You can the set the Save Action Set and the Save Action  all the PSD selected in the Bridge should open and saved.
I cancelled the search short here the search for all psd files could take a very long time and did not run the batch.
You will have a better chance not catching an Adobe bug if Photoshop is not up and running when you use the here.  Bridge may try to start a different version of Photoshop then the one running when you use menu tools>Photoshop>Batch.  Bridge CC was updated to start CC 2014 there is no bridge CC 2014.
This site scale image poorly you can scale them if you view them in a new tab or window.

  • Can't save layered .psd files in Photoshop CS3

    Hello,
I noticed yesterday that I can no longer save layered .psd files to any folder. What does get saved is only a generic file symbol.
I'm using a Dell 8200 computer, 1GB of RAM, IntelPentium4 processer, Windows XP Professional, and a Canon MP780 multiple function printer.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    George Masi

Is it saved incorrectly, or is the problem just that the icon is the generic one. In other words, can you A) click to open the file from the desktop. And, b) if you can't click from the desktop, can you open the file from within Photoshop, and see the layers correctly.
If B works, and A does not, then this means your Windows has lost the association between PSD files and Photoshop. You can often correct this by right clicking the file, and choosing Open With, with the Always open with this program field checked. There is also a way to set the icons back up, but this is more complicated.

  • Save as PSD question

    Hi.
Does anybody knows how to save doc as PSD with doc.saveAs() command but without compatibility mode to reduce file size?

OK. It works and saveAs() function too. I just checked this. But only when a file contains layers or no background.
It seems that this is photoshop feature, that when i save flattened PSD it losts its noncompatibility mode.
And when i make it layered and save it again, it will be saved then with compatibility mode.
It seems that this problem has no solution
    Sorry to bother you.

  • Save as .psd text (metric vs. optical)

When I open a .psd document in Fireworks, edit and save as .png and then save as .psd again, text gets transformed from metric to optical, is there any setting in Fireworks CS5 to change the display of text (metric to optical and vice-versa) like Photoshop has. This is a crucial reason my design team doesn't want to use Fireworks, because the text blocks got changed (kerning gets transformed slightly)
    thx

Older software can be expected to run into compatibility problems when it is run on newer operating systems. You write it works in CS6 - why not update to CS6 then? If it is essential to your workflow and team, it seems a small price to pay.
Alternatively, turn off every single other application and background service that you can afford to, and try again. Fireworks is known to have issues with certain newer system utilities under MacOs.

  • How do I deal with project bloat? Long Save time is getting worse?

Here are the FB posts I have got about this issue. I tried to paste them neatly but didn't work.
To be honest I am baffled that such an advanced NLE has so many issues. There should be a warning about the Warp Stabilizer messing up a project I had no idea till now.
This was my question to a PP user group on FB.
I am cutting a 60+ minute doc with lots of source material and the project takes a dogs age to save now which is beginning to interrupt my workflow. I would have thought the save would take less time depending on how much work was done since the last save. I suppose working with Proxies might be the solution but I am already 70% done.
    Here are the responses
Saving the project file on an SSD might be a good idea.
Your project size is slowing you down. Create a couple of projects, each containing a part of the footage. Organized in bins as needed. Call them footage projects. Create an other project named edit and cut in there. Use the media browser to browse the footage projects. Import what you need and use search bins to keep it organized.
If you didn't transcode your footage before you started the project it could be part of the problem. And like the other post says only having the footage you are currently working on will also help. The claim that you don't have to transcode when working in Premiere is misleading because in most cases when working with many different source codecs transcoding will always improve your computers performance.
I had the exact same experience cutting a 90 min feature with 120 hours of Pro Res 4444 footage. Long save times are caused by project bloat, either by having too many assets loaded or a lot of warp stabilizer effects applied. Transcoding will only affect playback performance and exports - it doesn't sound like it's the problem in this case.
only some codecs (4K GoPro, 6K R3D, lengthy h264/AVCHD clips for example) benefit from transcoding and will be snappier and playback smoother. But transcoding will never ever help the loading or saving time of your project
Don't apply warp stabilizsr to everything. All those coordinates get stored in project file
All I can say is that I worked on a Premiere project in November where my computer spent up to 5-7 minutes scanning through all the different directories with footage after the project was open before I could play back the sequences in my project. I ha...
some of the ftg is in need of stabilization so I did use the warp stabilizer but not excessively. 15 x 3-10 second clips. Is there a way of managing the storage of the coordinates too minimize the hit on the project size?
nope. Try importing existing project into a new project.
I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
I also work with Nested Sequences a lot. Working in short, manageable timelines. When opening a large project, Premiere will find the footage for the active sequence first, so I can start working quickly, while Premiere is still finding the rest of the footage.
Could do your warp stabilizing in AE and export renders of them, then import those renders into your project so the are just media files instead of files with stabilizer tracking points.

I usually stabilize footage in a separate project to avoid huge project files, and export the stabilized result. Then I use the stabilized version in the main project.
That would be something like  the advice I would have given
    and  more likely...
Save heavy duty  FX application until after you have locked down your edit. (eg Blurs , Warp, 3rd party FX(MB)
I Create separate sequences or Duplicate Projects for many reasons.  eg CC/Grade  and
Warp Stabiliser ...definitely.  Its even has a slow save  impact on After Effects Projects!

  • I have a Mac OSX 10.6.8 and I can no longer "save to iphoto" when photos come by email.

I have a Mac OSX 10.6.8 and I can no longer "save to iPhoto " when I get photos on email.

What changed, before you could no longer save image attachments to iPhoto?
Did you install new software or upgrade to newer versions?  Which version of iPhoto are you using?
The "Save to iPhoto" feature has been missing for some iPhoto versions. I do not remember exactly when it vanished, but it is back with iPhoto 9,6 and MacOS X 10.10.2.
As  a work-around - you can drag photo attacuments from your mail to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to save them to iPhoto.

  • Can no longer save Nikon .NEF files in Photoshop cc 2014

    Hi
I am hoping someone can help.   I was using a PC running Windows 7 64-bit and using LR, PS and Bridge to sort and edit Nikon files. This worked fine up to November of last year when I lost PC etc due to house fire.
In the interim period I've been using a laptop running Windows 8.1 with the latest Adobe Cloud apps installed.  However, now I find that when a .NEF file is opened in Photoshop and you try and save it back out, the only option is for PSD or JPG or Photoshop's version of RAW.
The troubleshooting I have done so far:
Taken all applications off and reinstalled them.
Downloaded separately and installed the latest RAW updates
I did recently purchase a Nikon D800 and assumed it might be an issue with that but it doesn't save out those from D80, D90 and P7000 all of  which I KNOW for fact were fine before.  I'm suspecting something missing from the installation but at a loss as to what.
    Thanks

I have a Nikon D50 nef on my desktop. Double-clicking on it opens Photoshop, which launches Adobe Camera Raw. If you get that far and can make adjustments in the ACR panel, you are fine. That's what opens first.
Then you click "Open" in ACR and your nef opens in Photoshop and the document tab on top gives the .nef extension. You make your edits there, but if you close Photoshop, you won't save it as nef, it won't be in the Save file list. You save it as psd for example and close Photoshop.
You now have a nef with develop settings on your desktop and the psd you saved out of Photoshop.
All perfectly normal as J.J. said, Photoshop will edit the nef file, but it will be saved in a format other than nef.

  • I can no longer save SIMs 2 games

Dear Apple, I include a letter below that I sent to Aspyr Tech Support, which will help explain the situation. There were also problems with Fetch not uploading, because it said that that I could not save to the folder, and to try selecting another folder. (Take note that I was not trying to save anything anywhere, I was just trying to open a connection.)A Fetch Tech person then instructed me on what needed to be done with my computer system's keychain, and that solve the Fetch problem.
Now I have a problem with saving my Sims2 games.
Also when saving AOL mail I also some time get a message that I do not have permissions to write to the location where I am trying to save the mail. Even though it is a folder on the desktop where I am trying to save it. I do not get any kind of message with the Sim situation, they just don't save.
When I installed the Leopard 10.5.1 I had installed it over the Tiger. I did not have problems saving my Sims 2 games though until I installed the Leopard 10.5.2.
I did have the problem with the AOL not wanting to save though before when I had the 10.5.1 running. Should I do an archive install or clean install. And is one better than the other? Please see below letter to Aspyr and let me know what yo advise.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
    LK
    Dearest Aspyr,
    I am so sad :0(
I upgraded my Leopard to the 10.5.2 operating system and the game runs great except it will no longer save, so everything that I do at a sims house gets lost when I go back to the neighborhood view. UGH!
Around the time that I upgraded my Leopard I had downloaded some custom sims and skins, so I trashed those, removing the EA foldr in my Home Userfolder and pulled off my external hard drive back up older games that had no problems, but those too will not save now. What should I do? Re-install from scratch my sim software? If so how should I uninstall the old EA stuff to make sure that I uninstall everything?
Or is there some permission issue with my computer which is not letting me save the game? sometimes with the saving of e-mails, and AOL is working to correct it making their program so that it is compatible with 0SX Leopard.

Open the Disk Utility, select your default hard drive and click on the Repair Disk Permissions. After that, restart your Mac and try to save your document.

  • I'm using a Mac / Leopard. I can no longer "save as" an image. Please see the "details" section for more information. Thanks.

I'm using a Mac / Leopard. Beginning about a month ago, I can no longer "save as" an image. The "Save Image As" menue comes up -- but then nothing. I can drag images onto the desktop, but that's it. I tossed out Firefox, and then downloaded it and reinstalled it, but have the same problem. (I couldn't figure out how to get rid of profiles and bookmarks -- so they remained). As I type this question on the Firefox website, I don't see the forum in front of me -- just a window to type a question. So, if you answer this question, I'm not sure I'll be able to find the answer. Thus, if you'd be so kind as to also email me the answer, that would be greatly appreciated: davidfreeman11 AT gmail.com Thanks

If the previous Safari suggestion doesn't work try the following:
In Finder, go to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins and move AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin to the Disabled Plug-ins Folder.  Restart Safari.  If this works you may just want to delete that FUBAR plug-in.
Thanks.  This was the solution for me.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
This action will delete any custom Mail stationery that you have created. If you want to preserve it, ask for instructions.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Mail will no longer save passwords

Mail suddenly eliminated the passwords for all of my mail accounts, and now it will no longer save any password that I type into the account panes. After increasingly slow performance, I figured that defragmenting and optimizing my startup drive might help, so I did so (via TechTools 4). Unfortunately, after doing so, I have had many Mail problems, including the problem started here.
What must I do in order to get Mail to again save passwords I type into my accounts?

  • I can no longer save a Numbers spreadsheet.  Why?

I can no longer save a Numbers spreadsheet.. Why?

    Rodeo,
I received the file you emailed.  Without opening the file:
I can tell you that you were NEVER able to save the file.  This is a Microsoft excel file (which we know because the extension is ".xls").  Numbers can open excel files then you can save the file as a Numbers file OR you can export the file back to excel using the menu item "File > Export To > Excel..."
Did you create the file in Excel?  If so you can continue to edit the file in excel.  If you double clicked the file and it opened in Numbers then you need to answer the question which application do you want to use (Numbers or Excel)?

  • Why I can no longer save edited images as jpeg file in CS6?

When the save dialog box appears, under Save Options and next to Layers there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark showing the Layers are not saved. My images are 72 dpi, I have changed screen resolution and no result.I have the image set to RGB colors and 8 bits/channel. Anybody else has experienced this?(It saves it fine in psd, though).Help!!

Ok, you need to know what you want to do with your image. For example if it's for the web the best way to save to jpg is..  File-Save for Web, then you will see a Box with four pages,,  you can choose: Original which is going to be your original image,... Optimized which is a Lower quality version. 2-Up and 4-Up.
when you click on 4-Up Tab you see your original image in the top left, Also you have your image in 3 different windows with different file size and speed. You can click on each window and inside the Preset in Top right choose JPEG. and you can change the quality from Low to High or Drag the Quality Slider for different quality.
NOTE: when you do File-Save For Web,, you are going to have a flatten Image.. you will loose your Layers.
It is always better if you shoot your images In higher Res, such as 240, or 300 dpi, and later Down-sample the image to a lower quality for the web. If you have the original image at Higher Res, First you should Go to Image Image-size For Example Height 1200 Pixel. If you go ahead and save the file for the web then you don't need to change the Resolution. don't forget to Sharpen your image when you Down-sample
