Save as PSD question

Hi.
Does anybody knows how to save doc as PSD with doc.saveAs() command but without compatibility mode to reduce file size?

OK. It works and saveAs() function too. I just checked this. But only when a file contains layers or no background.
It seems that this is photoshop feature, that when i save flattened PSD it losts its noncompatibility mode.
And when i make it layered and save it again, it will be saved then with compatibility mode.
It seems that this problem has no solution
Sorry to bother you.

  • Save as PSD no longer saves in compatibility mode

When saving a psd file I can no longer save in "compatibility mode". I'm using a Mac computer with OSX (version 10.8.3)  and Photoshop CS6 (version 13.1.2 x64). I just noticed this problem tonight when I tried to bring a psd file into a MUSE project. Now whenever I save a PSD file the menu that asks if I want to save in compatibility mode doesn't appear (it just saves the file). I've reset the preferences and restarted my computer but Photoshop still doesn't give me a compatibility mode option when saving a PSD file.

I'm saving multi layered files (not files with only a background layer) for import into Adobe Muse (normal, roll over, mouse down and active layers). My file handling for "Maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility" is set to ask but I did try changing to always when I started having issues and it didn't change anything. I'm pretty experienced with Photoshop so I've tried the obvious solutions. So far my only fix is to start my project form scratch and I'll be able to save the file correctly. I really think I've triggered a bug at some point in creating my project (changing the image size or something along those lines) because it doesn't always happen.
    Thanks for the suggestion, conroy.

  • Can't save layered .psd files in Photoshop CS3

    Hello,
I noticed yesterday that I can no longer save layered .psd files to any folder. What does get saved is only a generic file symbol.
I'm using a Dell 8200 computer, 1GB of RAM, IntelPentium4 processer, Windows XP Professional, and a Canon MP780 multiple function printer.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    George Masi

Is it saved incorrectly, or is the problem just that the icon is the generic one. In other words, can you A) click to open the file from the desktop. And, b) if you can't click from the desktop, can you open the file from within Photoshop, and see the layers correctly.
If B works, and A does not, then this means your Windows has lost the association between PSD files and Photoshop. You can often correct this by right clicking the file, and choosing Open With, with the Always open with this program field checked. There is also a way to set the icons back up, but this is more complicated.

  • Could not save my_file.psd because the file is already in use or was left open by another app"

Since some time ago I often get this message when trying to save my PSD file: "could not save my_file.psd because the file is already in use or was left open by another application", whereas there's no application that uses the file in reality. What could cause this problem?

    What could cause this problem?
If I remember correctly posibilities include the OS, anti-virus software, … and if you work across a network you are basically on your own anyway as Adobe specifically discourages this.
What are your OS, program version, …?

  • Why won't my trial of CC Photoshop let me save my PSD images as JPG or GIF?

Why won't my trial of CC Photoshop let me save my PSD images as JPG or GIF?

One thing to check is that your PSD is RGB/8 or /16, but not /32  (32 bits per channel)
If that is not the problem
    Let's try this:
Close Adobe Photoshop if it is opened.
Find the following:   (windows user can hit windows key + r, then in run cmd line type "%appdata%" to locate your "AppData\Roaming" directory)
\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC\Adobe Preferences CC Settings
Rename the  "Adobe Preferences CC Settings" folder to "Adobe Preferences CC Settings_old"  so that preferences settings can be recreated.
Reopen Photoshop CC and open a new or existing file to verify that your "save for web" option is back and not grayed out.

Yes, that's the maximum for PSD. Save as PSB instead.

  • Can I save a PSD as a JPEG? Elements 10

I know there is a way to save a .psd to .jpeg but I cannot find it in Elements 10.  Help please!

If you don't see JPEG in the Save As formats, you probably have a 16 bit file. Go to Image>Mode>8 bits/channel and then try.

Does Photoshop Touch for iPad save in .psd?

Yes, it processes RAW files (via Creative Cloud) and saves a .psdx to the Gallery, which again can be shared as jpg, png, psd or psdx.

  • Could not save "IMG_5116.psd" because write access was not granted.

"Could not save “IMG_5116.psd” because write access was not granted." i keep on getting this error message     why/?????

    nimrod levy,
It seems like a permission issue. Grant 'write and read' permission to the file.
MAC : Right click on the file > click on "Get Info"
scroll to the bottom "Permissions" >  unlock it > set permission as "Write and read" to all the users.
Win: Right click on the file > "Properties".
    Uncheck "Attributes: Read only".
Go to 'Security' tab >  'Edit'
Give full control check all in "Alloy" column; uncheck all from deny column if any to all the users.

  • Unable to SAVE AS psd from jpg file

Recently installed PE 6.0 on Windows XP. After working on a photo in Quick Fix or Edit, when I select SAVE AS psd and then close, the supposedly saved file appears in the organizer as a torn-photo icon and then its properties are listed as ".jpg". So it looks like the jpg format was not changed to psd, and also that the photo is lost. Saving as jpg works fine. Any suggestions are most appreciated.

Thanks for your time and advice, Barbara. This is what happened:
First, I restarted editor while grabbing ctrl+alt+shift, and I got the delete settings query and clicked yes. This did not make a difference. Then, I started playing with blank files. After experimenting for a couple hours, I have found this: If I Save As in the File menu, and then CHANGE the format, AND change the title, it works to go from JPEG to PSD or the other way around, and the thumbnail in the organizer is normal and its properties reflect the change. However, if the title of the file is unchanged and I attempt the same thing, is when it doesn't work. Switching formats seems to depend on making a title change. Thanks again for your help.

  • Fireworks cs4 save as psd problems

Hi all, 1st post on here.
Anyway, I use fireworks for all my design comps, it does just what i want.
However, i have been doing some design only work reasently and the work is always requested as a psd!
I dont really understand photoshop to be honest, so dont want to design in it. I have tried 'save as psd' from fireworks cs4 but the results are unusual!
Gradients dont appear unless flattened, and the strokes on some paths are missing as well. There are probably more errors that i have yet to spot.
Am i doing something daft here?
    All help greatly appreciated.

Fireworks CS4 should save as .psd (Photoshop CS4 version). I see the problem with gradients, though... (Hopefully, next version of Fireworks -- CS5 -- will address some of these problems, when saving as PSD.)
Fireworks is not perfect when saving PSD. PSD is native Photoshop format, so this is the reason why Fireworks cannot save so well in it.
If you do serious design work and they request from you .psd, I suppose, Photoshop will do much better job for you... Yes, it is much more difficult than Fireworks, it is not so intuitive, but that's the best I can think of...
I work as a Web designer for many years, and I always used Fireworks in my work. However, if I receive a design as .psd, Fireworks can open it very well. And I never needed to produce designs in .psd, I make my own design often, or I simply code other designer's PSD files, as CSS/XHTML...
Unfortunately, I can't help you much in this... Maybe some other Fw guru will be able to do better!

  • Cannot save in .PSD files

I'm currently using a laptop with 1GB RAM and I don't know if the RAM is related to this problem but I had set my Photoshop CS5 performance to the fullest yet I still can't save in .PSD. When I click on Save As, nothing show up. Even when I used the shortcut. Can someone help me resolving this problem?

This is a known issue when your monitor's resolution is below the minimum system requirements of 1024x768. There's nothing to be done about this aside from increasing your monitor's resolution.

  • Save as .psd text (metric vs. optical)

When I open a .psd document in Fireworks, edit and save as .png and then save as .psd again, text gets transformed from metric to optical, is there any setting in Fireworks CS5 to change the display of text (metric to optical and vice-versa) like Photoshop has. This is a crucial reason my design team doesn't want to use Fireworks, because the text blocks got changed (kerning gets transformed slightly)
    thx

Older software can be expected to run into compatibility problems when it is run on newer operating systems. You write it works in CS6 - why not update to CS6 then? If it is essential to your workflow and team, it seems a small price to pay.
Alternatively, turn off every single other application and background service that you can afford to, and try again. Fireworks is known to have issues with certain newer system utilities under MacOs.

  • When Scanning photos how do I save as PSD?

When I go to File/Get Photos/from Scanner there is a dialog box that indicates "Save as:"
The only choices are JPG TIFF PNG.
I chose JPG and set it on the highest quality (12).
Once the scan is complete, I then save as PSD.
Why is PSD not a choice? Do I need to be concerned about the quality?
When I scan using Photoshop CS I don't receive a similar dialog box. Should I continue to scan from Photoshop CS?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Try scanning from the Editor instead. You'll probably have different save options there. FWIW, TIFF is just as good as PSD in terms of quality.

  • Touched up photo with layers. Could only save as PSD. Need JPEG; How?

Not super experienced with PS, so thanks for your patience with this newbie question.I touched up photos using layers. I went to save and it would only let me save as a PSD. The PSD format does not work for my application. How can I save it as a JPEG. The picture is going to be used on a Multiple listing Service. The photo will open in PS. Not even Finder on my Mac will open it.
    Warm Aloha,
    Randy

The JPEG format does not support layers, period.  The correct solution is as described in post #1 by C.P.
Please note that the file will be flattened to save it as a JPEG, so heed the admonition to keep your layered original and work on a copy as he describes.
