Save As refused
I just opened a file using Open Recent.
Attempted to Save As to the same filename.
Got an error message that the file name I was saving to didn't exist.
Now the file is listed in Explorer with an extension .in435225578500 and the lock file for the original file is also showing.
Renamed the file to .indd and was able to open it again from Open Recent.
Anyone know what just happened??

The extension ".in_" doesn't appear to have anything to do with ID (and whatever that weird PersistentHandler is).
The .indd extension is allright.
1. If it was mangled in the Registry, you would be able to rename a file to an extension ".indd", but that file would not open in InDesign (that's the other way around).
2. A program doesn't check to save as what in the registry, i.e., on saving ID doesn't check what extension to use for an "InDesign.Document".
Crying wolf and such things. Perhaps it was merely a hiccup when writing to disk. (Wolf! Wolf!)

No longer able to save Word documents - older Macbook
When I have tried to save multiple Word documents recently, I get this message:
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected. Try one or more of the following:
*Free more memory
*Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged"
I have 60GB of free space, but to be sure, I deleted 30 old documents and still no dice. I have no idea what write-protected means.

Corrupted Frame files not importing correctly to RoboHelp and can't save MIF as FM
Hi,
I have Adobe Technical Communication Suite 3.0, which has FrameMaker 10.0.2.249 in it.
I created a user guide in FrameMaker, some of the chapters for which I imported from Word, and little bits of text here and there of which I copied and pasted from Word.
a) When I created a RoboHelp project and imported the Frame files, a little bit of content disappeared. A sentence here, a bulleted item there, not all the content I copied and pasted.
b) I thought I would save the Frame files as .MIF and then reopen them in Frame to get rid of any corruption. They saved as .MIF just fine and they open again with Frame just fine. However, when I try to Save As .FM, I get the message that .MIF cannot be saved as .FM.
I checked the extension in the Save As box and it has no mention of .MIF.
What to do? Any suggestions either for a) or b)?This is a bug in the Save As dialog. If the filename is yourfile.FM, you
can choose MIF as the filetype in the Save as Type box, FrameMaker
changes the filename to yourfile.mif and saves as mif.
But, for some reason, if you have a filename of yourfile.MIF and choose
FM in the Save as Type dialog box, you get that error message and the
save doesn't happen. The workaround is to delete the MIF extension in
the filename. Then the save works fine and the file is renamed with an
FM extension.
In other words, saving FM to MIF works as expected. FrameMaker renames
the file extension and saves in the new format. But, in a MIF to FM
save, FrameMaker refused to rename the MIF extension. (Maybe there is a
reason for this?) You have to delete the extension or the save won't happen.
I'm going to report this as a bug.

OSX Mail account setup window will not accept imap input
When trying to add icloud account to OSX Mail the input dialoge that is automatically sent from iclould to set up the account does appear in the account setup page. But the receiving Imap field remains grey even though the correct information is there (greyed) so when I go to save it refuses because there is no entry in that field. It could be that I am living in China at the moment I have 2 other email addresses that I have trouble receiving mail from so I redirected every thing to icloud because that was the only one I could rely on but now that doesnt work either. All sorts of corrupted keychain entries pop up as well with lots of extra attributes allowing access to many applications. I have deleted them. It would seem that when I access my mail account s via safari the login pops up a second time but looking closely I find Iam already logged in. So I click the another page to avoid it. I feel that there is more to it. I even reinstalled OSX Lion.

Pages downloaded from the App-store refuses to save: Permission denied. How can I download a new one? Please Advice .
Is the computer yours, and are you the Administrator or a user with administrator rights? Are you allowed to install software on the computer?
Check your "purchased" list. Pages should show there, and if it's not installed it should read "install" next to it.
Have you tried another mac? You can install the purchased software on another Mac by using your AppleID that you purchased the software with on the first mac.

PS CS4, refuses to save one file type .psd to another file type .jpg. How to resolve? Desperate!
I open a .psd file, make changes to eliminate layers and reduce the file size to then save as a smaller .jpg file. However, when the drop down window pops up to select what file extension I would choose, it immediately flashes closed with out time to make a selection .jpg or otherwise. No matter how many times I try to "beat" the window and make a selection, it's faster than me and it closes. It refuses to allow me to change the file type extension. This problem seems to have developed after downloading recent updates to the program. It's preventing me from doing my work. I need help fast. Can anyone help? I've already tried deleting the program from my system and reloading it, but the problem didn't go away.
Other minor glitch happened at the same time. Any file or group of files opened now fill the screen and are anchored together. I have to go to the menu every time and select 'Float all Windows', and if any other file is opened during the same work session, all previous files will become full screen images again and anchor themselves together again, so need to go to the menu and select 'Float all Windows' AGAIN. It's a real pain. I've tried looking in the preferences and didn't find a solution to the problem. Anyone have any suggestions? This problem is minor thought, compared to the first one listed which has crippled me moving forward in my work.

Server Intermittently refuses to display local login window - screen saver
Occasionally the local login window refuses to appear after the screen saver has been activated on my 10.5.8 Server, resulting in my inability to access the interface at all afterwards. Other symptoms of the problem are that remote logins (ssh) are also no longer possible because passwords aren't accepted for any user. The password prompt is simply displayed repeatedly in the remote user's terminal until the tries are used up, and this happens whether or not the password was entered correctly. In other words remote login is no longer possible because no password is accepted. Because of this, the computer must be forcibly restarted to achieve recovery, which has to be done locally, of course, by either holding in the power button or disconnecting power to the computer. The log entries that seem to coincide with the occurrence of the problem appear to refer to a screen saver crash. The next workaround solution I intend to try is to prevent screen saver activation altogether. What are possible causes for this? Thanks.
Removing the following two files and reinstalling the latest server combo update were recommended by the article to which you referred.

I performed those steps and am still observing in order to establish whether or not they have provided a complete remedy. I haven't observed any occurrences of the problem since performing these steps, but the problem is quite intermittent, and the server remains configured to restart once every 24 hours. My next step is to remove the scheduled restart configuration so that the server runs continually. If the problem hasn't returned at all after a few weeks of continuous operation, then I'll consider the question answered. Thanks! -
How do I save an IPhoto library onto a new hard drive while library is open? It is a miracle I got it open, and it has refused to be copied the usual way (by dragging its icon to destination drive). i want to save those photos!
My external Lacie Hard drive that contains the IPhoto library is a "locked volume." Wow, now it is suddenly letting me copy it. I dragged the library's icon to the new destination (a 3T hard drive) and it is working so far.
I have also had problems copying my IMovie events from this drive, whose data I'm trying to save. It reaches a certain video and stops. I will delete that video and try again. -
TextEdit refusing to save files
Since Safari has no "save as text" option, I've been cutting and pasting text into TextEdit. However, if the copied text contains even a single character not in ISO Latin 1, which is what all my software works in, it refuses to save the file until I paw through the text looking at every single character to find the one that's not ISO and delete it.
Is there a hidden option somewhere in TextEdit to allow characters not in the character set to be ignored on save? (A warning is fine, but not "go to ****".)
If there isn't, I'd appreciate advice on a different equivalent text editor that does what I ask it to do.johnsankey wrote:

If this is the case would a text editor like TextWrangler be acceptable? When you do a a "save as" operation in that editor it gives you the option to save the file in different encoding. For example, -

- one Problem I dealing with is that InDesign suddenly refuses me to save my Dokument after working for hours with it. I cannot save under. At least i could save my work as export IDML file.
Then I close the File an InDesign asks me to Save it for me but not possible. InDesign says not Possible.
Does anyone has this Problem? or has a Solution for it?Please try to reset the preferences of InDesign.

and can i specify a default save-as location?The default save location is the one used to open the document.
The default save_to location is the last used one.
Both are stored in memory and written in the application's preferences file when we close it.
It's quite easy to change the defaults in the preferences file but we must do that before opening the app and if we use an other location once the app is open, we will lost the defined default location.
From my point of view, the best scheme is to use an Applescript to save.

When I want to make changes to photo's that are copied out of my photostream folder to another folder, XP refuses to save the photos when i try to rotate them for instance.Saving after making changes like rotating is not possible. The properties of the photo's do not indicate that they are read only.
How do I solve this problemThe "Use custom settings for history" setting allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting that setting doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.<br />
Firefox shows the "Use custom settings for history" setting as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.<br />
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".<br />
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a check mark.<br /> -
My iPhone 4 is severely making me mad. It won't save any pictures I take. I will take the picture, then go to view it in the Camera Roll, and it just won't be there. The same thing occurs when screen shotting things on my iPhone. Some times it won't even let me delete the existing pictures I had on my phone before this all happened. I will click delelte, then it will pause, and eventually close me out of the photos app. However, when I go to settings, it says I have 440MB of pictures on here somewhere. But I can oly see 3 pictures in the camera roll. Also, it says in the camera roll app that it is 'Restoring...' then just sits and loads and won't restore anything at all. HELP ME PLEASE. I have iOS 7.1 currently installed.
Have you Tried Clearing the The Cache in the Camera or Gallery in your Applications Area.. Go to Settings--> Applications--> Manage Applications--> Select All--> Clear the Cache in Both the Camera & Gallery Clearing the Data however might Clear you Pictures in your Gallery but if your Ok with it Give it a Shot,

Hi guys, ok so my biggest problem is, is that I have made sooooo much progress in the Sims (like level 46-completed all alien goals, and just got the weather machine) so I have never uploaded to the cloud --well it did upload a few times automatically but then I went in and deleted it to make more room but never uploaded again.
My question is if I buy cloud space -it tells me to upload info I need about 20gb of space to upload all the info. S that means I need to spend about 40bucks on more space just to upload my free game (and some pictures). So I'm alright spending the money BUT my question is-- if I buy the space and do an upload for the sims, will it load the progress that I'm at currently? Here's the dilemma; about a week ago, I was just making everyone go ice skating when it froze, so I gave it a minute....then another....then I went to another app and came back to it....then I shut down the app and started it back up and still frozen although when I went back to it, it stayed frozen and continues to stay frozen on the Sims loading screen...the blue one in the beginning. When I turn it on, I get the little tip for the day, and I hear the music start up and then change as if its about to turn the screen over so I can see my Sims but it just stays there" I am so upset about this!!! I know it's just a silly game but I have invested sooo much time and care into these guys and they are like my friends! Plus I'll never be able to get two story houses again or woodworking coins for elevators and all the other updates that just makes me want to cry
Please, please, please can someone help me! Please tell me some good news that if I upload to the cloud now, it'll be able to pick up the frozen game and get the progress and be able to save it!!!!! Thanks for any advice you guys. I just have absolutely no idea what in the world to do

Tried to force close the app.
Turned on/off wiFi
Tried letting it just run on the screen it's stuck at for like 15 minutes
Ugh...my brain is turning off-I think it's frozen like my Sims! Cornball I know.
But I've tried everything I could think of which is a bunch more things than what I was able to list. And I'll do my best to answer any questions cause I know from looking all over on different forums that I'm not the only one this is happening to. It happened to a bunch of people who I think are still waiting for theirs to get fixed.
Can the cloud save me if I upload today?
