  • Need help with script to save iPhoto RSS pix to album

    Hi all. I'm a very green Applescripter needing some pointers.
    Goal: Create a script to "save" pictures from subscribed RSS feeds in iphoto (they get automatically deleted when they fall off the RSS feed).
    I can "add" or "duplicate" the images from the subscribed album to my "archive" album but I can't figure out how to tell if I've already copied an image or not. Is there some way to say something like:
    if RssPhoto exists in ArchiveAlbum then
    don't copy
    else
    do copy
    end if
    I tried doing a file name comparison but iphoto adds a incremental number to the filename so it ends up failing the comparison.
    Thanks for any help.

    'I tried doing a file name comparison ...' - please show your code, and respective RSS url(s).

  • I want to save all RSS feeds as PDFs automatically. Is it possible?

    Since i have had lots of RSS feeds but sometimes i dont have time to read so I want to save them as PDFs first and read them later. The reason why I have to do this cos some RSS feeds have been embedded with HTML code to show the images in the feed and those could be lost if the author deleted those images. I want to keep those images as my reference but happen automatically. Anyone knows any apps that can do what i want or automator can do this or not?
    Thank you.

    What you are wanting to do is very easy. Check out the examples that ship with LV. You will find code for doing data acquisition, signal analysis and program architecture. You might also want to consider getting some good training to answer your basic question, or go through the getting started materials that ship with LV.

  • How can I save the RSS feed from awebsite on the toolbar so it will show all the content in a folding menu?

    In the previous versions of FireFox I Could push the RSS sign in the addressbar and choose to have the feed on my bookmark toolbar. In that way i could push the feed name on the bar and see names of feeds i have read and them I havent read and decide whiche one to go to. today when i save a bookmark to the toolbar and then push it there, instead of showing me the different content in a folding menu like before, the whole page jumps to the website. How can I save the feed from the website like before?

    - Go to the Tools menu - select Options.
    - At the top of the Options window, click 'Applications'.
    - Scroll down to 'Web Feed' and make sure the Action is set to 'Add Live Bookmarks in Firefox'.
    - Click OK.
    - Navigate to the desired website, go to the Bookmarks Menu and select 'Subscribe to this Page'

  • I cannot open rss feeds - Firefox asks whether I want to open or save both rss.php files and application/rss+xml files - any help out there?

    Trying to add feeds to live bookmarks - cannot figure out what setting to change so that when I click on the "subscribe to" button the option to add these feeds to live bookmarks is available.

    Did you find a solution to this yet? I'm trying to do exactly the same thing.

  • How to get rss feeds onto the Journe Air 801 via the external memory card?

    I've bought the Journe Air 801 digital photo frame and the manual says "save the rss feed of the album you wish to display in the .rss format and add to the external memory card" but it doesn't say how you create this .rss file or copy it onto your memory card. does anyone know how i can get a picasa rss feed into this format?
    I've successfully added a picasa feed manually in the frame but as picasa only updates the rss feed if new galleries are added, not new photos, the photo feed is not updating on the frame so I'd like to alter the rss address.
    Thanks

    Hi guys,
    i will use this thread now also to document my contacts with the toshiba support hotline:
    Early December
    I called the hotline the first time and told the support guy (#1) the problem.
    He promised to look into this and that he would call me back.
    I did not get an incident number.
    He called me back the same day and told me, they don't have an air 801 to test, just an air 1000.
    The air 1000 has a different menu and does support rss without any problems.
    He said, he will try to to find an air 801 and get back at me.
    A week later
    Since there was no response I called again and got a different guy.
    I told my story again and the support guy #2 promised to ask support guy #1 when #1 is back in office.
    He promised to send me an email and include the incident number.
    December 11th
    I got an email from #2 saying that he could not find my original request. He did not include the incidient number, although that was promised.
    He promised me again that he will get in touch with #1 and ask him for information.
    December 18th
    I sent #2 a mail asking for current status.
    December 28th
    I called hotline again and had to wait really long (the prerecorded message at the beginning informed me that support staff was hit by a flu).
    So I told support guy #3 my story and this time insisted on a incident number and got one. Unsurprisingly #3 could not find my first two requests.
    He promised me to hand this to level 3 support and somebody will get back to me, but probably not within this week. I told him I hope for a response within the next four weeks...
    So let's see what will happen next.
    Maybe you guys could get in touch with toshiba support in your countries, I have the feeling that this increases the chance of getting a "correct" answer.
    Cheers,
    Kai

  • Install RSS as Screensaver script

    I want the equivalent of a windows theme file for mac with rss as a screensaver.
    I have an rss feed; how can I bundle an executable file (automator, bash) to excute a 'System Preferences' -> 'Desktop - Screen Saver' -> '+' -> 'Add RSS Feed...' insert the RSS feed url -> launch or test or just set as the active screen saver.
    Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

    You already have a "RSS Visualizer" screen saver.  Can't you use that?

  • Screensaver settings (how to customise dismissing?)

    Hello there,
    I am using a Mac Mini running 10.4 as a basic information board/music player in my primary school using a combination of a big screen, the inbuilt RSS screen saver as RSS feed I have set up using google apps and a bit of itunes(for the music).
    I wonder if there is a way for the screen saver to remain on screen unless a specific key is pressed (or at the very least require any key be pressed). I want this so that folks brushing or wiggling the mouse don't dismiss the screen saver.
    I've tried messing around with hotcorners but it doesn't seem to do what I want.
    I don't want to set a password as the password input box will cover up the text of the RSS feed.
    Thanks very much!
    Steve
    ps - is these a way of sceduling iTunes to start up, play a randomised playlist for 15 minutes, then stop playing? Again, I don't want it or an alarm clock text box to appear and cover up the text in the RSS feed...

    For iTunes check [Dougscripts|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scriptcount.php?sortBy=Name& op=y] - Many itunes scripts.

  • Fetch unread RSS items from mail, set them to read, save the text to a file

    This is what I want to do, and needless to say I am having a little trouble.
    I wish to take the unread mail RSS items, set them to read, and then save the TEXT of the articles (not the title, time, or author) to a TextEdit file in my Documents folder.
    So far I have Get Feeds From Mail > Filter Articles > Get Text from Articles > New Text File
    This is all fine and dandy, but how do I just get the TEXT and not all of the crap that comes with it?
    Thanks!

    NOw I had manage to clear out the error, but now the problem is when I click on the 'save' button, this function clear out the entire text file for me !!!
    The code are as below:
           if(e.getSource()== vButtons[0])
              try{
               String str;
               String Ky = tArea.getText();
               BufferedWriter buffWrite=null;
               BufferedWriter in1 = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("Keyword.txt"));
                        buffWrite.write(Ky);
                    buffWrite.flush();
                        buffWrite.close();
                    in1.close();
              catch (IOException ex) {
              ex.printStackTrace();
            if(e.getSource()== vButtons[1])
                  new panel();
                  dispose();
             if(e.getSource()== vButtons[2])
                System.exit(0);
        }     Please tell me how to save the TextArea to the text file, THANKS !!!

  • How do I save an iWeb as text files, XML Sitemaps based on the Sitemap Protocol, or RSS or Atom 1.0 feeds.

    How do I save a web site created in iWeb as something other than HTML. I need to do this because Google will not let me optimize my site as HTML. Google accepts text files, XML Sitemaps based on the Sitemap Protocol, or RSS or Atom 1.0 feeds. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • RSS Visualizer for Desktop instead of Screen Saver

    Is there any hack to get the RSS Visualizer Screen saver to work as ones desktop?
    Thanks.

    Applescript:
    tell application "System Events" to
    "ScreenSaverEngine" is in name of processes
    if the result is true then
    tell application "ScreenSaverEngine" to quit
    else
    tell application "Terminal"
    if not (exists window 1) then do script ""
    do script
    pt
    "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Reso
    urces/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaver
    Engine -background &" in front window
    end tell
    end if
    Can i do any harm with this operation. I've never used Applescript, though I do know how to bring up the editor and at least try what you suggest.
    I just don't want to screw things up. Will this script give me the choice list in "Desktop" as in "Screensaver" utility?

  • RSS Visualizer screen saver

    I like the RSS Visualizer screen saver. I like the ability to display headlines from news websites like www.bbc.co.uk, www.fastcompany.com and many others.
    However, I am disappointed that:
    a] only the first ten new feed headlines are ever displayed and even then, from just the one selected news feed source; and
    b] even though I have defined a number of news feeds in the preferences dialog box, there seems to be no way of prompting RSS Visualizer to move on and display headlines from the next site defined in the preferences dialog box.
    Does anyone have a workaround for this?
    Thanks
    Jai
    PS I have made a submission through the Mac OSX feedback page.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Oh....my....gaddd....
    Ok this is the only thing that seemed to work, including all sorts of cache, database checking, net connection checks, etc.
    I had the desktop/screensaver pref screen open... nothing but squirly blue clouds which was the problem I was having....
    Clicking any of the feeds did not bring the 'swinging rss' feed titles... as usual for my problem... clicked all over the preview window, nothing...
    blah blah blah I moved the Start S.Saver slider from 9 min. start to 5 min. start and that seemed to get it going again!!!
    I clicked back to Apple Hot News and nothing there, but almost all the other RSS feeds seem to work fine in both preview, test, and hot corner operation now...
    I know the blue clouds was nice, but the Feeds add something to it... so i guess now I can use the Apple Hot News feed as a pretty cloud S.Saver background now... oh well

  • RSS Screen Saver

    I'd like to change and add RSS feeds to the screen saver. I've tried dragging them onto the panel and searched the for 'modules' in the various librarys. I've also tried to add things to the default Apple RSS in Safari. Does anyone know how to do this?

  • RSS Screen Saver Limit

    I have setup a screen saver using an RSS feed from a blog that I run. I have one blog post per week and until this week I was able to see all of them. Now, all I can see are the last 4. I have checked and blog and all seven posts are available from the main screen and I have archiving turned off in my blog settings. Is there some limitation on the blog posts that can be pulled down with the RSS visualizer?

    You're most welcome. Glad to help.
