Save As Template

As far as I can tell, all this command did was duplicate my file.
By template, I thought they meant a file with certain elements on all pages, like a master page in InDesign with perhaps the header, footer and layout the same for all chapter and section pages. They have a handful to choose from when you start a new file, and I thought that is where it would be saved as well.
Am I missing something here?

When you save a file, the file type (or file extension) is ".iba". With a template, it is ".ibatemplate". When you save an .iba file, you normally will choose what ever directory you want to save it in. With a .ibatemplate file, there is a preferred default destimantion which is the directory that your iBooks Author templates are saved. Typically that is on the path:
~/Library/Application Support/iBooks Author/Templates/My Templates
Any .ibatemplate files that are in that directory are displayed in the list of available templates when you tell iBooks Author to create a new iBook document. Although I have not done a detailed comparison, if you saved to an .iba file, and then immediatly saved as a template from that same document, the actual contents of an .iba and and .ibatemplate appear be the same as you observed.
You can make a text field be a placeholder text field by using the "Define as Placeholder Text" command when the desired text field is selected. That makes the content text uneditable. As soon as you try to edit the text, the entire contents of the field is replaced with the new text. You can do the same thing with a media object with "Define as Media Placeholder". So you have to take some deliberate steps to setup the placeholder objects.
Hope this helps.

  • Server based Office 2013 - where do I save word templates on the server for all users to access from "New"?

Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm used to working with stand alone desktop MS Office products.
We have a server connected to six desktop work stations. All stations have access to Microsoft Office 2013 on the server, and the printer is linked through
    the server.
Users are currently accessing Word doc Documents on the shared (p) drive as templates, and then saving them with relevant file names to their area on the
    (p).
Surely there is a way to save Word templates to the server, so that when someone clicks on "New" in Word our own templates are also offered automatically?
    Thanks
    Mark

    If
    anyone knows the address
for where Microsoft stores the main default templates  - then that would
be really useful? It would also allow us to get rid of the numerous templates that we would never use.
    Thanks :)

  • Can't save as template - even without publishing activated,

    Hi,

  • Save as template ingores in and out points

I'm a new user to Motion, but not to FCP (took a bit of a break between FCP4 and the recently released FCP Studio).
Anyhow, I'm working on a project in Motion where the in frame is set to 300, and the out frame is set to 600, and the project 900 frames. When I choose File>Save As Template, the quicktime preview and FCP clip show 900 frames.
Is there a way around this? Do I need to submit a bug report, or is this normal behavior?

Can anyone else even confirm this? Would anyone else consider this a bug?

  • Save as brings up save as template box

Im using a DW3 css template. When I try to save any of the
regular html pages like index.html, it brings up a save as template
dialogue box. Havent seen this before, but its quite annoying to
have to save as every time I make an edit. Maybe I inadvertently
changed a preference or something. Any idea where to look to fix
this so Ctrl S will save over page and not try to save as template?
    Thanks.

That's because you aren't using the template properly. You
    must spawn a
child from it, not change its contents and save with a new
    extension.

  • "Save as Template"  not working

    Hi
I'm new to Motion 3 and have been working through the Apple Pro Training book to try and learn this stuff. Everything seems to be working ok, but I'm having some trouble with the "save as template" function. I know that you have to create a new theme in order to save a custom template, but it won't let me. Every time I select "create new theme" and type in a new name, it just plays and alert sound and sends me back to the main save window. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is there a setting somewhere that I have missed? Thanks
    Robert
    Final Cut Studio 2
    Motion 3.0.2

A workaround would be to create the theme manually.
    1) Quit Motion.
    2) Navigate to User/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/Motion/Templates (if you don't have a Templates folder, then create one)
    3) Inside the Templates folder, create new folder with your theme name.
    4) Relaunch Motion. When you go to save your template, this new theme should now be available.

  • Can't save custom templates in DVDSP 4

I cannot seem to create and save custom templates. When I try, I get a variety of error messages, such as "no audio asset" or "cannot connect to blah blah asset" or I get no message at all--it just doesn't save. To confirm, there is no new template in the Custom tab, nor is there any new file in the appropriate folder under App Support.
This happens whether I create from scratch or alter an Apple template as a test.
I am the only user of this computer and log on as an administrator, although I gather this was only an issue with previous versions anyway.
I have a couple of older menu templates that I created and saved from the previous version of DVD Studio Pro before upgrading to 4, so I know I've done it before. These templates show up in the Custom Tab in DVDSP4 as well as in the folder for templates under my user hierarchy.
I suppose a workaround would be to save a menu as a Project template and just open that for each new project, "saving as" or not saving changes at all to preserve the "template," but I'd rather the software work as it should. I intend to build several Menu templates for use in recurring projects with different departments at my place of work.
    Any suggestions?

This might have something to do with user profiles. I have now created a brand new standard user. No admin privileges. Logged on as this Test user, I am able to create new templates, modify existing ones, etc., and all of them are saved properly. The new templates show up under the Custom tab, as well as in the templates folder under user Test's application support folder.
For some reason, I just can't get DVDSP 4 to behave when I'm logged in as my Admin account.
To recap...when I try to modify an existing Apple template and save it, I get the following error message "Can't Create Template. No audio asset found."
This happens the first time I try to save, and if I try again (whether or not I make a change) the program gives me no message at all--just doesn't save it.
    Arrggghhhh.

  • Save book templates

It would be great if I was able to save the book layout that I created. Maybe even being able to use my layout later with the AutoFill feature. Am I dreaming? If anything is there a way to save your book layout other than making it a PDF?
    Thanks
    Rebecca

    Jeff,
The only way I see to save your book is to Export to PDF or Blurb. I'm looking for a way to save the template of my book. So that I can add it as an Auto Layout preset.
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Can't Save as Template

I have created a Business Card by emptying out one of the business cards and adding my own graphics and text and I want to save it as a template from File>save as template.
I get the Pages Logo with the following message: Couldn't create file /user/my name/Library/Application Support/iWork/pages/templates/My Templates/MapleBusCards.template
    What am I doing wrong?
    SJ Allan

    Shirley,
Unless you've deleted all the files associated with iWork, and there's some tricky ones, reinstalling wouldn't do you any good. Here are a few more things to try:
    1) Take a look at that path that's listed in the error message. Make sure you have that path leading to your template, exactly as it's listed in the error message. If that doesn't prove fruitful ...
    2) Copy everything in your document over to a new, blank document. It's possible the document itself is corrupted. If that doesn't work ...
    3) Start with a new, blank template. Type a single word into it (use a different font than in the other template), then try to save it as a template.
    4) Try saving the corrupted template as a regular file instead of a template.
    5) Quit Pages. Navigate to your user/library/preferences folder, then delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist file. Restart Pages.
    Let us know the results.

  • Can't save as template because "can't export as template"

I am trying to save a document as a template.  I believe I followed all the correct steps.
I then used "save as template".
I saved to the correct folder:~/UserFolder/Library/Application Support/iWork/Pages/Templates/My templates
I keep getting this error message: The document “Blue letterhead.pages” could not be exported as “Blue letterhead.template”.
    HELP!! Any thoughts??
    Thanks

    Ennea,
It shouldn't be that difficult. You do a File > Save as Template, give it a simple name and hit the Save button in the lower right corner of the dialog.
Try a new blank, or nearly blank, document, with a simple name like "test", and don't change any of the folder defaults. If this doesn't work, try the same thing in another User Account.
If the alternate User Account can do the Save as Template, you have a problem with a plist file or a permission, or something else is amiss in your regular account and some simple maintenance should clear it up.

  • How to I customize and save Apple Templates?

I need to scale down brochures to fit in my printer margins. Is there a way to permanently save these changes?

One thing you can do, short of my earlier suggestion to buy a new printer, is adjust the margins on the templates. This will work best on vertical layouts. In the Document Inspector set the bottom margin for .5 inch (or the metric equivalent). (In the case of my old HP it was .56 in). Then select and raise any objects protruding into the non-printing bottom gray margin area. Then Save as Template, giving the new version a new name so that when you do get a printer that will print with a smaller margin you will still have the original template.
For horizontal templates you will need to change both the right and left margins to retain balance. But note that in the case of tri-fold brochures a lot more adjustments will be required so that they will fold properly.

  • Can't Save as Template in iBooks Author 2.1.2

I've only just now tried to save as template in this version. This is what it used to do:
Replace the .iba extension with .ibatemplate.
Change to the iBooks Author Templates folder so that you can save there.
Now it doesn't do either of these. When you select File > Save as Template..., it presents the folder where the .iba file has been saved and does not change the extension.
Manually changing the extension and putting it in the templates folder gives it a generic Pages document icon in the Template Chooser. However, it can be opened as a template through this dialog. The title of the document is Untitled, just like it would be if a template were chosen.
    Has anyone else seen this?
    I have lodged a bug.

Thanks both Arnis and Mike --
Interesting suggestions from both of you.
Arnis, we're putting the cleanup utility on the back burner for the moment, since in our company, we can get in trouble using third-party software. However, it's good to know about this utility and we will use if it we have to. (Occcasionally we are forced to put our careers on the line for issues like this...)
Mike, we created a folder called "PDFSettings" in the 7.2 "fminit" folder and copied over the six joboptions files from 9.0.  Rebooted, rePDFed and voila, that worked. (Mind you, we can't say for sure that's what worked, because as I said in my original post, the simple act of rebooting "sometimes works, sometimes not...")
Eventually this problem will go away by itself because eventually we will get rid of 7.2 -- it's only deadline time-crunches that have made us reluctant to jump fully-clothed into 9.0...
I really appreciate the two of you taking your time to offer suggestions and help. I can't imagine life in the FrameMaker world without you!
    Cheers,
    Gay

  • Trying to save a template in Logic??

Hi all, I've been trying to save a new template and it's not happening. I've gone to 'Save as Template" but when I try to save this pops up 'please choose a location in the template folder or one of it's sub folders'. Ok so I go to Library>Application Support> Logic> Project Templates and press save...same message 'Please choose...). The other quirky thing is my old templates folder (my Templates) isn't in the project folder either, however the templates show up when I select new project in Logic. So the question is 1 do I have an alias templates  folder somewhere ( I haven't knowingly created one) and 2 how do I locate, I've tried typing the exact names of my templates in spotlight but to no avail. Many thanks

    Hi
Templates saved by the user usually need to be in
    <User>:Library:Application Support:Logic:Project Templates
It seems that Logic will not let you save templates into the 'Main' Library
Note that in Lion, the User Library is hidden by default, so Spotlight will not necessarily find files in there. In the Finder, you can use the Go menu with Option to access the User Library. You can then add it to the Sidebar in the Finder window for future (easier) access. You could also make the User Library folder permanently unhidden using Terminal.
