Save As under Maverick is very slow showing folders path

I've noticed after updating to Maverick that when I click on "Save As", it takes a long time (10-20 sec.) for the file pathways to show up in the Save As window. Is anyone else having this problem?  I've tried re-booting but that doesn't help.  Thanks in advance.
Marty

I had the same problem. I also occured when I clicked on the title on top of a window to rename or move a file. Therefore I suspeced it´s the new extended tagging functionality in Mavericks which caused this annoying bug.
After eliminating all these tags from the sidebar in the finder preferences the problem was solved for me.
@apple and others: the former menu, which appeared by clicking on the title of a window was much more charming and in my opinion much more usable. The window appearing in Mavericks seems to be more restrictive and less intuitive. Is there a way to switch back to the old context menu?

  • Save Open dialog box opening very slow

I have windows 7 professional 64bit OS. whenever i try to open/save as dialog box it appears very slow, then it will say it is not responding then after 10-15sec it will come alive.
    Need help!!!!!!

    Blair,
I followed your suggestions above....reset IE ...clean boot. Didn't solve the problem.  (had trouble making that MSCONFIG window bigger !? <wink>)
Problem still exists.  And to be clear, here is the problem(s) ...I believe they are all interrelated.
#1.  I end the explorer.exe process and restart it.  Run Explorer and start clicking folders in my FAVORITES.  System hangs for about 10 seconds before it catches up.
Alternatly, after a explorer.exe restart, if I run explorer and start clicking down through folders from the C: drive, there is no hang.   SUSPECT - some sort of file for favorites needs to be rebuilt?!
#2. Open MS Word.  Type a few letters.  Select File/Save.  Most icons under Favorites are white.  Trying clicking more than one, but system hangs for ten seconds until icons fill in.
#3.  WINDOWS button, start typing in the search INTERNET....5-10 seconds before Internet Explorer (and other INT* things show up.!  Usually this is instantaneous.
    System Info:
Great machine and fast for over a year, and now this started FYI.
OS Name    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
    Version    6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    Dell System XPS L321X
    x64-based PC
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2467M CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1601 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
    4 gb Ram
    256 SSD
ACTIONS TAKEN:  (estimated 30 reboots today)
    - Ensure all folders are GENERAL under properties
    - Advanced Attributes - turned off "allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties"
    - Checked Indexed location is C: drive/ User/ just my data areas....reindexed
    - Tried reboot with Windows Search service disabled....no help.  Turned back on.
    - Tried MS Essentials off.  Tried Firewall off
    - Rebuilt ICONCACHE - was 8mb, now less 450kb
    - Archived OUTLOOK down to a reasonable size (and had to do the manual compress to reduce the file size after)
    - turned off some Windows visual effects.
    - Turned off Dropbox from autostarting....this was before I tried the Clean Boot
    - turned by ON (default)  in Startup - though it has Unknown MFG and no details  :~(   , i found that it likely is needed for my 64 bit machine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Navigate away from site with flash under Firefox4 + OSX, very slow. Bug?

I have problem to navigate away from a page with flash under Firefox4 + OSX. Very slow (takes 30-60 seconds after clicking on a link). No problem in Win/Ubuntu with Firefox4. No problem with Firefox 3.6 or other browsers under Win/Ubuntu/OSX.

When you say you play it, in either Captivate or Flash, do
    you mean
locally or that you upload it somewhere and play it back
    through a web
    browser from that website location?
If the former, then I'm not sure. If the latter, sounds like
    the images
are Very Large and it's taking a while for them to download
    in order to
play...but once they're downloaded and 'cached', the file
    plays quickly.
How large are your published SWFs? What format are your
    images? What DPI?

  • Print to PDF is very slow showing "save as" dialog when printing from Outlook 2013

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with one of my users.  The problem is intermittent.  At first when I was looking at the issue, here is what I saw:
In Outlook 2013, I opened an e-mail.  I then selected Print, selected the Adobe PDF printer, and hit the print button.  There was over a 1 minute delay before the "save as" dialog appeared to ask me where to save the document and what to name it.  I did this for several different e-mails with and without attachments and the problem was consistent.  I saved the e-mail to a local e-mail file and the problem was the same.  This process was over 30 or 40 minutes.  I was pulled away for another issue and now the "save as" dialog pops up within seconds.  The user is complaining that this happens regularly.  I tried a repair, cleared temp files, and was going to try printing from other apps, but then it started temporarily behaving itself, so I can't tell you if the same delay existed in other apps.  I didn't see anything obvious in the event viewer logs.
Has anyone else seen this?  Anyone have an idea on how to troubleshoot this?
    Thanks,
    Jeffery Smith

Thank for your help Bill, but changing settings in the distiller did not seem to work. As my application prints directly to the default application without using anything specific to Acrobat, I was hoping there was a simple way forward. A colleague suggested copying registry entries from the account I logged on as to the S-1-5-18 entry, then rebooting. This had no effect as the prompt still comes up.
Aandi, I don't have the Acrobat SDK or any experience of it.
Also I'm not sure where any code/script would sit since the application is stable and so I would rather not change it.
If it amounts to a few lines of javascript sitting outside the application then that would be of interest.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 Mavericks running very slow

Been having some trouble with my machine for a while now. Mostly seems related to internet programs. Google chrome, kernel task or this proccess will take up all of my processor power. Switching windows will sometimes hang, and when I try and restart my computer applications will need to be force quit to shut down. Applications that don't take up many proccesses, and operate fine normally.
Had something similar happen before my reformat. Had similar issues under mountain lion. Installed Mavericks, hoping it might help (and wanting a few of the new functions) but it didn't change it. Reformatted, and installed all apps from scratch rather than using time machine, since I thought it might be a software issue. I have done both permissions and disk repair. I've had disk repair find errors twice or three times in the last two months. Maybe slow hard disk failure?
    Any advice/assitance would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I've stopped using Chrome, and I'm having much fewer problems. *****, cause I really like the browser, but it was one of the major culprits.

  • MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2010 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with Mavericks is very slow

    Hi everybody,
i have already seen this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/24018625#24018625) started by campitor and allegedly solved by arthur but only for campitor's concrete case and already closed. Therefore I have made the same checkup with Etrecheck (see below). It would be really great to solve this problem because I need my mac for work and I am getting really desperate: it's just too slow for effective working. I am really desperate and really thankful for any kind of hint or help that could bring back my machine to normal workable speed.
    cheers,
    Cris

  • Adobe Reader won't save forms under Mavericks.

After installing Mavericks on a Mac, discovered that Adobe Reader won't save forms or e-mail them with the filled-in information. DOes anyone know a fix? Does anyone know if this is also true for Acrobat?

The reason is Adobe has not updated there software yet to play well with Mavericks. The fault is of course with the Adobe Software. I suggest you go to there web site and see if they have a fix yet for there software, If not all you can do is continue to check back with them or get on there fourms and see what others have to say about this same issue.

  • Mavericks is very slow

Morning, ever since I upgraded my os from Snow leopard to Mavericks certan programs and the macbook pro itself seems to work extremely slow at times and after all this time I feel I am at rock and place to either downgrade or increase the memory and harddrive on my mac.
However how fair is this, I need a solution. There are too many times only 38mb of memory is available and when I was running snow leopard it was not like this
    I await your timely response

    Hello cellisarch,
The following articles detail a number of things worth checking that can help get your MacBook Pro running smoothly again.

  • Maverick is very Slow

Once I upgraded to Maverick, my mac book pro is operating so slow.  Everything I try to do seems like it is terribly slow.
Is their anything I can do,
    ughjason77

    ughjason77,
if you boot into Safe mode and log in there, does your MacBook Pro run just as slowly then? (Note that it will take longer to boot into Safe mode than in normal mode — only compare the speed of running your typical tasks.)

  • Movie downloads very slow. shows 100 hours

I have purchased a movie. The download is pathetic. I have a 1 meg line, but i have downloaded 20meg in 2 hours. Previous movie purchase was fine. Apps download fine.

Hi Phil - I can empathize. Tried using my Apple TV (new version as well) for the first time last night to rent Salt. I have been watching movies streaming from Netflix with much success and no problems since Christmas. Unfortunately, I got 12+ hours message before I could view it. Since this was going to kill the movie night we watched a Netflix movie instead. Streamed through the same exact Apple TV and network while Salt continued to download. After the Netflix movie I checked and Salt was ready to play. It even started for a second before I stopped it since it was too late to watch.
We went back to watch the movie tonight and it wanted to start the download over again. Luckily, only 5+ hrs this time. Bad news is that 5+ hrs would push us past the rental expiration time since I started the movie for less than 10 seconds the night before.
Now I am peeved both at what appears to be a major technical problem with Apple's rental service AND with their billing that doesn't take into account any possibility of such technical issues!
This all makes me very sad as it performs nothing like Steve Jobs demo at the Apple TV launch... I hope you are finding better luck now.

  • Explorer slow showing folders containing PDF files

I have Windows XP SP2 and Acrobat Pro 7.0.9 on a Dell Precision
    M65 about 4 months old.
Windows Explorer experiences a significant delay displaying the
contents of folders that contain large PDF files. Process Explorer
shows that during these delays explorer.exe is reading from the
disk at about 200 MByte/sec. The thread that's busy during these
delays is ntdll.dll!RtlAllocateHeap+0x18c. The duration of the
delay is proportional to the total size of the PDF files in the
directory. If I rename these files to have, say, .doc extension
instead of .pdf then the delay disappears. The delay to display a
folder containing 300 MByte of PDF files is about 25 seconds.
    Enough to be really annoying.
In ShellExView I tried disabling all non-Microsoft extensions,
including several Adobe Acrobat related extensions. Made no odds.
    Any suggestions?

I see exactly the same thing, but I suspect this is partly a Windows issue. I completely uninstalled all the adobe products from my machine (Acro reader, acrobat pro 7.0.9, FrameMaker 7.2) such that the pdf file associations were gone, and it still takes forever to list the files. Of course, there could still be some remnants lurking in the system that uninstalling didn't take care of.
My workaround was to change the .pdf extension to .mypdf and then associate that extension with Acrobat reader 8.0. The folder contents now update very quickly (as they should) and I can open them with the correct Adobe product. I just have to remember to change the extension back to .pdf if/when I email a file to someone else.
Still, would be nice to not have to work around this.

  • G5 Very Slow Opening Folders, Spinning Loudly

My brother gave me his practically new G5 when he upgraded to the new latest and greatest. He wiped the drive of everything, including the operating system. I purchased Leopard when I brought the computer to my Apple dealer yesterday because I could not get the DVD drive to recognize a disk in it. Seems it needed a new DVD drive, which was installed. The dealer said the hard drive was fine. Yet when I installed Leopard yesterday and rebooted, everything suddenly started working very, very, very slowly. Double-clicking on a folder takes forever to open it. Launching anything from the dock takes a very long time too. Sometimes the application does not even recognize that it's been double-clicked and I have to try several time, or go through the menu bar for a file-open before it will. Also, I hear a really loud spinning sound when I try to open any folder. Is this a recognizable problem? So far I have not reattached any of my other peripherals until this problem is licked...only the monitor, keyboard, mouse and USB hub are connected. I tried various mouse and keyboard settings between fast and slow (usually I am on fast) and dragging it closer to a slow setting seemed to help a little with the double-clicking recognition, but why? Help!!

  • Quicktime SDK for Windows very slow processing UNC paths

    Hi,
I am using the QuickTime SDK to ingest a file to XDCAM mov reference and storing the output file on a network drive using a UNC path.
My call to QTNewDataReferenceFromFullPathCFString(...) is increadably slow in returning (7.5 seconds), so much so that the rest of the system gives up and the ingest fails.
I tried using QTNewDataReferenceFromCFURL(...) but this didn't make any difference.
If I map the network drive the call to QTNewDataReferenceFromFullPathCFString(...) is very quick and the ingest completes without issue.
I am using QuickTime SDK version 7.3, QuickTime player version 7.7.3 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
Is this a known problem with QuickTime?
    Thanks for your help.

I have 32gig of ram with CS5 running on Windows 7 and it never uses a scratch.
Not directly related to your main question, but this statement is flawed.  Photoshop ALWAYS opens scratch files.  I have 48GB and just opening Photoshop causes scratch files to be created with names like Photoshop Temp208190803952.
I only mention this because if you're not seeing such files created, you may not have your Scratch preferences or permissions set right.
Can you screenshot your Edit - Preferences - Performance panel, please, and post it here?
And a last note that DOES bear on your Liquify issues:  If you're truly using Liquify a lot, you really, REALLY need to look into upgrading to Photoshop CS6.  You know they re-wrote it to use the GPU in the new version, right?  It's night and day faster.

  • How do you print comments in pages under mavericks?

How do you print comments in pages under mavericks? Earlier if show comments was checked, all the comments were visible and could be easily printed. Now only those comments are visible on which the cursor is pointed but even those do not get printed!

Thanks to all for to the 'older Pages' suggestion. I don't have the last Pages on my mac anymore (although this is probably just me being really, really dumb), but the suggestion inspired me to try another very similar work around - which was also successful. Just in case anyone's in the same situation as me, am sharing it here!
For absurd reasons I won't bother to explain, I've also got a version of Word for Mac. I prefer writing on Pages, though, so all my documents (and their comments...) are Pages files. In the really unlikely event that you've also ended up with both Pages and Word (I know...) just export to a .docx file, open it with Word, and print from there. It retains all comments, track chages, etc. This seems really obvious, but I hadn't thought of it...
This can also be a work around for the lack of 'Compare Documents' and/or 'Merge Documents'.
Of course this would all be much better if it were actually just in Pages...I hope this helps, and thanks!
