"Save As" window is smaller, no column view, no "new folder" option

How do I get back the original "Save As" window, which was twice as big and had more choices. Now the window is half the original size, only has two drop down lines, one for name and one for location of save and I can't save to specific folders only HD and sidebar items.
Thank you in advance

Just click on the blue "Disclosure Triangle" on the far right side of the "Save As:" line for additional locations.

I extracted 2 pages from a PDF file. They are there according to the "open" dialogue but the second one is not there as an icon. I can attach it to an email but the email won't send - it says the attachments are still downloading. I can't create a new folder on the desktop to save the second PDF into. ***????

You can write a file with the same extension as long as you lock your file while writing it. As long as your file is locked, your BizTalk receive location will not pick it up.
So the question here really is, how is your application generating the CSV file?

In your case it will be something like this:

  • Firefox 4.01 downloads files but the downloads windows greys out the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options and I can't trace the files

Three days ago I upgraded to Firefox 4.01. I downloaded several files that were ok. Yesterday and today I downloaded one powerpoint file and a an apple *.dmg file.
On the Download window these two files I can see with the total mb in size. However when I right click the file list in the Download window the "Open" and "Open containing folder" options are greyed out. What is more I cannot find these files anywhere on my computer when I use Windows Explorer to search.
It seems that this happened after I tried to download a Firefox add on from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/64761/amazonassist-0.7.2.6-fx.xpi and my antivirus picked up the JS/Kryptik.AK trojan and terminated the connection. Is there a link with the problem I am experiencing?

  • Why there is only "New folder" option when I right click on "Windows\System32" folder ?

    Hi,
someone can explain me why when I right click on some specific folders, I only have the right to create new folder but not to create new document or new text file ?
Is there a way to add more options when I right click on those folders ?

Because there's a DACL that allows to create folders (you are in an
appropriate group allowed to do so), and there's a second DACL that
allows for creating or modifying files (you are NOT in an appropriate
    group to do so).

  • In Finder, when making a new folder, it always goes "loose" in the window

If I'm looking at a finder window with, say 10 folders in it - okay...I click on one folder and hit "new folder" and it throws a "untitled" folder, usually at the bottom of the list (u is near the end of the alphabet, duh).
Then I have to go find this untitled folder, rename it, and physically move it into the location.
    Isn't there a better way?
If I am in a folder, and want to add another one in the same spot, is there any way? Seems like wasted time and steps for this basic function....
    anyone know how?

It all depends on the sort of view the containing folder has. In List or Column view the new folder will come to life in alphabetical order in the "untitled" position (assuming you have List view set for name) of the folder you have open--so if you want a new folder in a sub-folder, you'll have open that sub-folder. When you create a new folder the window should jump so that your new untitled folder is visible and selected. Icon view can be somewhat more problematic. If you have the View Options for that particular folder set to Keep Arranged by Name then the new folder will appear in the right place, it will be selected, and if necessary the Finder will move the window so it is visible. But if you have a custom "by hand" arrangement of folders and files inside an icon view folder and simply create a new folder using the keyboard shortcut the results are variable. I usually control click the spot where I want the new folder to be and select New Folder from the contextual menu. It appears at the spot I've clicked.
BTW, if you want to add a new folder to a sub-folder of a window in List view, but don't want to lose your "place" you can open the sub-folder by holding down the Command key, double click it, and it will open as a new window. Add your folder then close it. You can also just double click it, add the folder, then click the back button in the toolbar to return. You can customize the toolbar from the View menu.

  • Is there a way to set the FOLDERS window in Adobe Bridge as a Column view?

  • Column View

While in column view I see the entire directory/sub-directory structure in the window. Is there a way to specify a particular directory as the root of the current window, so that I don't see it's parent directories in the column view? make sense? thanks for any suggestions

    Hi Rob,
I work with a lot of files, which are structured hierarchically using folders, so the column view is very useful for bouncing around the hierarchy. I've forwarded my idea to OS X feedback, but here is an explanation of how I would like column-view to be, followed by screenshots.
    1) First; notice that there aren't extra empty-columns to the far-right. Instead, when you enlarge the window, the far-right column will automatically resize to fill the space.
    2) Each column is individually sortable, and has a contextual-menu for changing the sort-type. If you want universal column sorting, there is a Finder preference to toggle.
    3) Each folder has a contextual-menu item called "Make Column Root". This will set the window's far-left column to the selected folder.
    Column-view sorting:

    Make Column Root:
    http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k140/graphicaliber/contextual-menu.jpg
Result of using the "Make Column Root" command:

That's it really, simple, and would greatly enhance my workflow.

  • Finder Relaunches when selecing files in columns view

I'm having an issue with my Finder when I have a window open in the columns view. When I select folders, I have no issues, but if I try selecting any kind of file (applications, images, word documents, etc.), the finder will relaunch its self. I don't have an issue in any other view. It's like Finder is having problems pulling up a preview of the file.
I tried doing a Permissions repair and rebooted my computer but that didn't seem to do the trick. Can anyone assist?

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Try dragging these two files to the desktop then reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
If that doesn't do it we just need to go further.

  • Anything like Finder column view in Automator?

When using actions like New Folder or Copy Finder Items the user navigation for choosing a folder is very clumsy.
At the moment all I can come up with is for the user to click on the Where drop down menu, click on Other... (which throws them into their Documents folder by default), then browse to the folder they want to copy to and click on Open (so a minimum of 4 clicks).
What I'd really like, once the action is invoked, is to allow the user to browse onwards from my preset folder, in a column view, to the folder they need and then click Continue (so potentially just 2 clicks).
Is there anything like this in Automator?

  • Finder window sizing in column view.

Does anyone know if it is possible for the Finder to automatically expand the view to the longest file name in column view? It is very frustrating to have to drag the little lines on the lower right to the right to resize the window manually whenever I open a document folder. I hope I am not confusing anyone but it is hard for me to describe what I mean. Why do I have to manually resize it to the length of the longest file name every time?
    Thanks.

I don't think the "Finder" can be configured to resize itself automatically whenever an item with a long name appears in a given window. However, double-clicking the "little lines" (the ones that look like "||" at the base of each column separator) will cause that column to self-adjust to display the longest name. Since a double-click requires less effort than a manual drag, hopefully that will save you a little bit of frustration.
If a generally wider column is preferred, try holding down the option-key while resizing the column - all columns should be resized simultaneously in that window, and the setting should be retained as the default width.

  • Can't tab into file list when using column view in the open/save dialogue boxes

    Hi,
When in Open/Save Dialog Boxes I can't use tab to select the file/folder list in Column View. Tab will only cycle through Save As, Tags, Search, and the Sidebar. In all the other views (Icon, List, Cover) I can tab into the file list. Is this a bug?
I know that enabling Full Keyboard Access will make this work, but I'd rather not do that since it increases the number of buttons you must tab through to get to the file list.
I'm using the latest version of Yosemite on a 2014 Macbook Air. Thanks.

  • Items in Finder window will not show alphabetically while in columns view

I am running a Mac Pro Yosemite 10.10.1
a couple of weeks ago I had some kind of glitch since then it takes a long time to save items having a continuous spinning beach ball.
Also in the Finder window items will no longer listed alphabetically while in columns view  they list fine in the other views.
Is there an easy way to fix or  could I fix it by reinstalling the operating system?

    Hi tundrabob,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like Finder takes a while to save and you need to sort a window. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Sort-by-type for column view in open/save dialog boxes?

    Hello all,
I've done a fairly good search both on Google and in these forums and can't seem to find this question addressed. When I go to open or save something (in Preview, for example) I prefer to use Column View in the dialog box, since it is easy to see and navigate the folder structure. However, Column View always shows up sorted by name, even if I specified in Finder that the folder be sorted by type. Because of this, I have to scroll down and hunt for subfolders rather than having them conveniently listed at the top.
My question is this: is there a way to get Column View to sort by type in the open/save dialog boxes? (The Command+J that works in regular Finder does nothing in these dialog boxes.)
    Thanks!

No. Column view will only sort by name. If you wanted to put a space before each folder name, then they will sort to the top. Sorting by Kind will put folders above files, but it will also put anything else except files at the top. If there are only folders, however, that would put them first in the sort list.
