Save dialog box in vista types over file name in InDesign

Ever since I have upgraded to vista at work I have been having this issue.
When I save from InDesign (and only InDesign), I open the folder I need to save my file in. I begin to type the name of the company folder that this file needs to be saved in (there are hundreds). I am only able to type the first letter of the company before it begins typing over my file name. This has turned out to be a major annoyance for me and my coworkers because we may have 40 or 50 folders that start with "s" so we can only type in "s" and then have to stop and scroll through and read each folder instead of typing in the name of the folder we need and hitting enter. Has anyone else had this issue and know how to correct it, or is it something we have to live with?

Hi,
I am using CRM UI framework for developing my components.
Currently i have a hyperlink for a file. On click of the hyperlink i want the Save dialog box to appear with SAVE/OPEN/CANCEL options. For Word/Excel/PPT files, dialog box appears. However for txt/PDF files, dialog box does not appear.

First of all, you need an app on the iPad that can read those files that you want to transfer. Adobe Reader and iBooks are two free apps that will read PDF files. Adobe Reader is much more robust than iBooks as it offers so many more features like renaming files, creating folders, annotating, highlights, etc.
Download Adobe Reader in the App Store. Then read this about file sharing with iTunes.

There are other ways to get files to the iPad, like email, DropBox and some other apps that let you mount your iPad like a flash drive.

Displaying Japaneese character in SaveAs Dialog box

I have a problem with displaying japanese file name in 'save as' dialog box.
I have a page that lets user to download a file. On downloading a file , the 'save as' dialog box opens up with the file name. The file name is passed to the dialog box by setting the content-disposition as given below in the jsp

The file name string is encoded in japanese EUC-JP charset. The page content-type is also set to EUC-JP. The browser's
encoding charset is set to EUC-JP. And also I have tried with different Charcter Encodings which Support Japanese like SJIS , Cp943C,UniCodeBig ,UniCodeLittle.
But nothing worked out.But english FileNames are coming correctly in the FileSave Window
but... when the dialog box opens up, the file name turns out to be junk even though the file name passed to it is a correct EUC-JP encoded string.
I guess this is becos the 'save as' dialog box takes some default browser values...

I have got the solution.
After getting the file name from Database the Japaneese String(lsFileName) is encoded using "UTF8" encoding method of java.net.URLEncoder.encode(String lsFileName,String encType) of JDK 1.4

Open/Save Dialoge Box covers the whole screen - CS3/Vista

Hi,
I´m using Photoshop CS3 on Windows Vista and I have the following problem:
I can´t reduce the open/save dialoge box in Photoshop CS3 as I could in earlier versions, which I find very inconvenient.
It stretches over the whole screen and there seems to be no way of reducing it. There are handles at the corners but they don´t work.
Is this normal in CS3 or could it be just a wrong setting in Windows?

No, it's not normal. There are two things I can think of:
- the dialog repositioning feature of your graphics card is not working properly (NVidia Desktop etc.)
- you resized the dialog in another program and now the huge size has become the system default
In both cases the solution should be pretty obvious - either adjust the settings/ turn off the graphics card's special features or resize the dialog back in the program it was turned huge in the fi8rst place. For the latter, also checking your more general folder view options as well as manually deleting desktop.ini files may offer a way out.

Sort-by-type for column view in open/save dialog boxes?

Hello all,
I've done a fairly good search both on Google and in these forums and can't seem to find this question addressed. When I go to open or save something (in Preview, for example) I prefer to use Column View in the dialog box, since it is easy to see and navigate the folder structure. However, Column View always shows up sorted by name, even if I specified in Finder that the folder be sorted by type. Because of this, I have to scroll down and hunt for subfolders rather than having them conveniently listed at the top.
My question is this: is there a way to get Column View to sort by type in the open/save dialog boxes? (The Command+J that works in regular Finder does nothing in these dialog boxes.)

No. Column view will only sort by name. If you wanted to put a space before each folder name, then they will sort to the top. Sorting by Kind will put folders above files, but it will also put anything else except files at the top. If there are only folders, however, that would put them first in the sort list.

The compilation within Studio works with a bit smaller (like 35MBytes) project, thus I think the problem is some sort of memory handling.
The problem comes up while it is trying to compie/load 'external resources': it still works with 512M or even 256M of heap before this operation.
Some weird thing is that I cannot set Xmx >640M, nor launcher.XXMaxPermSize > 1024M (winXP SP2, 2G RAM). While I'm sure that nothing is hacked around the memory allowance of Windows (i.e. how much memory does it allow for particular executables), I think this operation should be tested to work even on 256M heap...
On the other hand, the ANT compilation works well.

I have had some errors in my project, which ALBPM6.0 said to be OK, like defining a String array attribute 'not null' and setting no default value; or defining some object to be abstract and instantiating it.
However these errors are not always reported, e.g. during catalog compilation: XY must be explicitly instantiated before being used since it does not have a default initialization... thus made it static (however, it has been used as static all the time).
I had to hack CatalogPublisher a bit so that I can read them on stdout, and correct those syntax errors.
For this possibility, iterate over the non-empty foCheckerListener.getPresentationErr() in CatalogPublisher after checkXO().

Check if file downloaded successfully , through Open Save dialog box

In the jsp I have a download link through which user can download a file which is located on the server . I have achieved this by setting the response type in servlet as follows => response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileName); .When the jsp page loads the user is shown a Open Save dialog box for downloading the file. The user can download the file or cancel the operation.
But now I need to track if the user has downloaded the file successfully on his m/c , depending on which a flag will be updated in the database . I am not able to track this event . Pls help how I can check if the file has been downloaded successfully and do further processing.

This is fully dependent on the client side. You can never rely on that.
In most cases you could check if any byte of the file is written to the outputstream and/or no IOException is been thrown, but some webbrowsers (such as Firefox) will download the file immediately while the client still need to choose 'save' or 'cancel'. Only when the client chooses 'cancel' the download will be aborted and the file will be deleted. But if the file is small and/or the network is fast, then the file download might be already completed at that time.
Again, you can never rely on what happens at the client side.

CS5 slow to get the 'open' and 'save' dialog box over networked computer.

I have been having this problem since the suite was installed, but recently has gotten much slower. Any time I click open or save it takes 8-10 seconds just for the dialog box to come up. CS1 was lightening fast - I know that was ages ago, but I can't help compare the two. I have the same problem with InDesign and Illustrator. The suite is running on a Windows 7 machine through a home network, accessing files from an XP machine as well as a Buffalo Linkstation. Once the dialog box comes up, and I double click, the file is pretty quick to appear. I have researched online and I believe the problem to be somewhere in the network or the settings. The network is quick, Windows Explorer has no delay in opening or finding files, nor do other programs outside of Creative Suite. I did an experiment to narrow down the problem - I closed Photoshop, unplugged the network cable, and reopened the program. AMAZING - it was SO FAST to open the dialog box for both opening and saving files! I then closed Photoshop again, plugged the network cable back in, and opened Photoshop. It was back to the slow opening of the dialog box. Everything else in the programs runs fine - no delay when performing operations in any of the Creative Suite - it has to do with the network and how CS is looking for the files. Can anyone help me, I am so frustrated - this is adding unnecessary time to everything I do and I dread opening and saving any files!!

We used to have a network storage device attached to our home network, but it crashed and we replaced it with another model. A while back I had added it as an item to display in the places bar. When we removed it from the network, the link on the left side disapeared, so I forgot all about it. When I read your posting it jogged my memory. I searched the subject to remember how I had made the change and found this posting from Adobe Community: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/795196 (its in #6). I found the original storage device in the places bar, removed it and replaced it with the new device. I opened Photoshop and Acrobat and both open and save dialog boxes appear as they should - the problem has been resolved! THANK YOU!

MS Word: This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box.

This is not a question. I believe I've found a new issue and the fix for it.
The situation:
A brand new iMac 27" running Yosemite 10.10.1
MacMini server running 10.8.5 server.
The issue:
Client on iMac trying to work on MS Word documents stored on server was requiring him to save the documents to his desktop and then copy them back to the folder on the server. The exact error message was, "This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the save dialog box."
The issue is unique to this computer in an office of 10 client computers and three servers.
Attempted fixes:
Verified that the ".Temporaryitems" folder existed and the permissions were set properly.
Repaired permissions on the client and the network share.
Definitive fix:
By default, Yosemite 10.10.1 uses SMB for connecting file shares. When I overrode the default and switched to AFP protocol, the issue went away.
I hope this helps someone else.

That was it. What an operating system. It is very helpful to view files you are looking for. But if you have preview on you cannot save files.

Clicking a .pdf link does not open .pdf file, it opens a SAVE DIALOG box

Recently when I click on a .pdf file link I am no longer able to open the file in a adobe reader either within a FIREFOX webpage or open it using the full adobe program. Instead it opens a SAVE dialog box requesting me to save to my harddrive. I am not sure what has happened and am trying to find someone who might know what is going on?

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

File Save dialog box not showing correct file name while saving file

Currently, after the Submit button is hit, the File Save dialog box is displayed. If the user saves the file and then opens it then the output appears correct however if the user chooses to open the file without saving on the local machine then the correct viewer is not used to display the file. The name of the file is defaulted as qotSCopPrint.jsp and the default file viewer for jsp files is chosen to view the file. The format of the file is obviously not text (it is either pdf or rtf) so the output shows binary characters.

How to get a file save dialog box on button click

I have some text and I want to write this text in to a file.Then I want to save this file to my local system using a file save dialog box so that I can choose the location where I want to save this file.Please tell me how can I do this in WebDynpro.

Put this code into a servlet rather than a JSP.
JSP are for returning text based HTML pages. It adds extra carriage returns into the response that will corrupt the file, and prevent the dialog showing up.
This code is much better off being in a servlet
If you are using a FileInputStream, you should be using a ServletOutputStream rather than the JSP writer: response.getOutputStream()
When dealing with file input in a JSP/Servlet you should use the methods of ServletContext. getRealPath() turns a website relative file into a real location on disk. getResourceAsStream() opens the file for you. getResourceAsStream() is more reliable as it will work even if the web app is deployed in a packed WAR.

How to force the Netscape Browser to open the "Open or Save" dialog box?

Hi, I tried to force the browser to open the "Open or Save" dailog box for downloading a file.

This works fine with IE for all file types( Even though he prompts twice to Open the file directly). but Netscape opens the file directly in the browser with showing any dialog box for text and html files. Anyone knows how to force the netscape in this case or for any file type? Any help will be appreciated.

when your trying to open a pdf file as attachment is seperate window, it works well in IE but in netscape it opens up in the same browser, it doesnt open a seperate window

Mac Open / save dialog boxes in AI CC 2014

Any help with this would be appreciated!
After updating to os x 10.10.3, only the 'name' appears on the open/save dialog box in AI CC 2014. Other CC apps are not affected. Toggling the view button DOES NOT fix the problem. Anyone else experiencing this?

The mode in the photo of the earlier post, if you keep dragging the window over eventually you will get to the other options, but the File Open preview pane has become useless
