Save dialog is hosed trashed wrong

Photoshop 11.0.1 on an 8 core MacPro with ATI Radeon HD 2600 and Cinema HD set to 2560 x 1600, Most of the boxes in the SAVE dialog are overlapped with the result that they cannot be accessed and the word "Setup" has an & in the middle. See attached image. This is 100% of the time. Any ideas?
TIA,
Ron

Make sure your OS/driver are completely up-to-date, or reset you prefs, or try saving in a new user account, or lower your screen res. Hey, at least it happens 100% of the time. A breeze to troubleshoot.

  • Finder sidebar not updating with applications open/save dialog boxes

    Hi all,
I've searched the threads and can't seem to find an answer to this recurring issue that I'm having.
I save folders to current projects in the Finder sidebar. However, I find that when I try to find those sidebar folders from within the open/save dialog applications that it is often times and old version of the sidebar. In the image linked below note the Finder sidebar on the left and the InDesign CS sidebar on the right. The list of folders is different. The version via InDesign seems to be an older cached version.
    Screen capture: http://www.fabianross.com/forum-images/screen-capture.png
Does anyone know how to update this cached version to see the new list of folders?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Try deleting this file: com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. See if that helps...
Seems to me that Adobe is very picky about where the files are kept on the hard drive. You might not want them in the Sidebar. Whenever you do an Adobe software update, the installer needs the path to where those files go. If it's missing in action, it can wreak havoc.
Make sure when you do Adobe updates, if there is a link included or a Read Me file, check that out first before installing anything.
Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER any software updates:
Launch Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • Pasting from a web page into a File-Save dialog no longer works; causes a freeze-up

When I place an order on Amazon, I copy the order number, then print the invoice to .pdf. When the file save dialog comes up, I paste in the order number as part of the file name. I used to, that is. At some point the pasting part no longer worked: nothing (visible anyway) is pasted, but something is happening, as the file save process hangs, and I have to use task manager to kill it. Then, the print process is trashed - if you try to print again, you get an error - and I have to restart Firefox to clear that.
This copy/paste procedure works fine in IE & Chrome.

The only way I was able to reproduce what you described is to run the script after copying a picture.
    Here is a refined version.
It make two attempts to grab text items from the clipboard.
If both failed, it send an error message.
    --[SCRIPT table2text]
    +++++++
Save the script as an Application or an Application Bundle: table2text.app
Move the newly created application into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Applications by yourself.
Copy your block of datas to the Clipboard.
    menu Scripts > table2text
The Clipboard will be filled with the text or the utf8 component of its original contents.

  • "Save" Dialog box always opens in different sizes

Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, whenever I "Save" the dialog box comes up in different configurations.  Sometimes the folders section is really wide and sometimes very thin.  I usually can't see the full names of the files in the default folder and have to resize the box before browsing where to save the file. Also, the file name window at the top is too short to see all of the file name I'm working on if it's a long file name. Is there anyway to customize the "Save" dialog box for either or both ot these issues?
    I'm on a Macbook PRO (2011).
    - Mike

YOu should be able to drag the window from the bottom right to size it. That size should stick when you save the next time. You may have to adjust it seperately for different applications.
If it doesn't save try rebuilding Finder prefs
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash this file:
    com.apple.finder.plist
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

  • Download file in struts - File save dialog not showing up

    Hi,
The issue i have is - the file save dialog box which should be displayed on file download is not showing up.
I have a DAO being called from the Action form SaveDocumentAction which extends DispatchAction and has a download(mapping, request, response,..) method. Below are relevant portions of my code.
    public void showDocument(DocumentTO Doc, HttpServletResponse response){
    //get filename etc
    response.setContentType("application/x-download");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=myFile.txt");
    OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
//code for writing from input file to out
I shld be getting a File Save dialog after response.setHeader(), but I am not. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong. I have printed SOPs and all print fine, even the file writing part.

Put this code into a servlet rather than a JSP.
JSP are for returning text based HTML pages. It adds extra carriage returns into the response that will corrupt the file, and prevent the dialog showing up.
This code is much better off being in a servlet
If you are using a FileInputStream, you should be using a ServletOutputStream rather than the JSP writer: response.getOutputStream()
When dealing with file input in a JSP/Servlet you should use the methods of ServletContext. getRealPath() turns a website relative file into a real location on disk. getResourceAsStream() opens the file for you. getResourceAsStream() is more reliable as it will work even if the web app is deployed in a packed WAR.

  • Photoshop CS6 and CC freezes in Open/Save dialog

Photoshop is unuasable for me. I was running CS6 but it kept freezing when I tried to open a file. I uninstalled and installed CC -- same problem. I checked the preferences to see if there was a setting for an Adobe file dialog and it froze again.
I suspect it has something to do with Mountain Lion 10.8.4 but I don't have this problem in other Adobe apps.
Ran Disk Utility, verified permissions, verified disk -- everything checks out. Not sure what to do
This sucks because I have a big project due this weekend

It also could be a plugin, anti-virus or other utilities.
Try disabling any third party plugins you have installed.
Check the utility programs as well.
And you can try trashing the OS prefs for the save dialog in Photoshop: com.adobe.photoshop.plist.

  • Photoshop Save Dialog

    HI
Just wondering whether anyone knows if Adobe are planning on replacing the ancient Open/Save dialog with the proper one from the Windows API, or whether there is a plugin which will change this?
It really is irritating that they don't use it, as quite often I start in completely the wrong directory and have to go through about 50 folders before I get there.
    I am using Adobe CS5.
    Thanks
    Luke

Quite literally, it IS actually one from the Explorer API - it's just not one with the more modern Windows 7 look and feel.
I believe they set it this way intentionally because the product still can be installed on older operating systems (XP in particular).  Even though it's old, a quite significant percentage of Windows users run XP still - nearly half of them by one count.
With Windows 7 Pro and above you *can* set up the icons along the left side to point to useful places, by the way...
Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the search box and hit Enter.
When the Local Group Policy Editor comes up, navigate into:
         > User Configuration
         > Administrative Templates
              > Windows Components
             > Windows Explorer
              > Common Open File Dialog
Open the Items displayed in Places Bar setting.
Set it to Enabled, and edit the list of Places to display.

  • Media Encoder, No File Save Dialog with New XDCam Project

I've started a new project last night and I got it edited toda
    y. It's XDCam 24P timelines, very simple linear
string of short 45 second clips of interviews with executives.
The timeline behaves normally in every respect. Except, when I attempt to render it to any format in Media Encoder, I never get the File Save As dialog. I press OK and the Media Encoder settings goes away, then, a second later, reappears. It took me a few moments to realize something was wrong.
I rebooted the computer, thinking Premiere was just corrupt in memory, as sometimes happens, but after a fresh start, the same behavior with the Media Encoder. Now I'm really worried, because this is a corporate event video with a deadline.
Just to check, I tried opening a prior project and tried to render anything in that project. This time I get the Save As dialog, which is expected. So I return to the corporate event project and try again to render anything within that project. The encoder settings keeps redrawing when I press OK and I cannot save anything.
Thinking my project was corrupted, I copied the assets and made a new project and pasted them into the new, blank project. Once again, I cannot render anything. All I get is a redraw out of the Media Encoder settings screen.
This is a very simple project. There is nothing unusual about it that could cause this freakish behavior, except the lighting used at the event was mostly yellow. Apparently it doesn't like something about my footage, but I cannot re-shoot this one-time corporate event! If a reboot didn't fix it, and other projects still work normally, then it's a real head-scratcher. This is new behavior that I've not encountered in 3 years of using CS3.
I'm out of ideas. If it's XDCam my footage, then I'm dead in the water here!

    FOUND THE PROBLEM!
I have several timelines in the project, and most of them are titled things like "window dub w/timecode". I found one that was titled "interviews" and tried to render that. The Save dialog appeared, only when I rendered from THAT timeline. So I started to look for differences between the timelines.. then it dawned on me that all the timelines that don't render have the "/" character in the title. Adobe should warn that this character is not allowed, rather than allow it and then behave weirdly. Could have saved me hours of thrashing about!

  • Open/Save Dialoge Box covers the whole screen - CS3/Vista

    Hi,
I´m using Photoshop CS3 on Windows Vista and I have the following problem:
I can´t reduce the open/save dialoge box in Photoshop CS3 as I could in earlier versions, which I find very inconvenient.
It stretches over the whole screen and there seems to be no way of reducing it. There are handles at the corners but they don´t work.
Is this normal in CS3 or could it be just a wrong setting in Windows?
I hope somebody can help me on this, thank you so much!
    Best regards,
    Mike

Is this normal in CS3 or could it be just a wrong setting in Windows?
No, it's not normal. There are two things I can think of:
    - the dialog repositioning feature of your graphics card is not working properly (NVidia Desktop etc.)
    - you resized the dialog in another program and now the huge size has become the system default
In both cases the solution should be pretty obvious - either adjust the settings/ turn off the graphics card's special features or resize the dialog back in the program it was turned huge in the fi8rst place. For the latter, also checking your more general folder view options as well as manually deleting desktop.ini files may offer a way out.

  • Why pdf prompts a save dialog when I close it?

Please help every time I open a pdf document and then close it a save dialog appears asking me to save the changes although I haven't changed anything; Is it a Bug? How can I fix it?

There are two reasons this happens.
    1. The file is damaged, or (more often) made slightly wrong by bad software (more common than you'd think). Adobe Reader repairs the file, and wants you to save the repaired file. (If you do, the message won't be repeated)
    2. The file does some clever stuff with forms when you open it, and changes the file. Again Adobe Reader wants to save it. (Even if you do, the same thing could happen next time).
If you didn't make the file you can safely ignore this.

  • Open and Save Dialog Boxes Appear Briefly then Close

Open and save dialogs on my MDD 867 flash briefly and then close themselves in my administrator account. All the other accounts are fine. This makes me suspect something in the Library. I just did a wipe and install plus Migration Assistant to no avail--which furthers my suspicion of Library problems.
Anyone have any suggestions which file(s) could be the culprits?

More than likely it's a conflict/corrupted amongst the various preference (plist) files. Log into a good admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.
See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4703015 for more details on this process.

  • Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

Open and Save dialogs are painfully slow. Is there a solution?

I pulled this part out of one of the topics Barney-15E linked to. It absolutely works! The glacially slow Finder response has been driving me batty in Mavericks. Each time I restarted, it would take forever to list the startup drive when I opened it. Open and Save dialogues were also painfully slow to respond. Now they all snap open and list instantly. I used TextWrangler to comment out the line in the file auto_master, then ran the automount command in Terminal.
    Working workaround:
Use the following statements in Terminal.
    sudo vi /etc/auto_master
In this file comment out /net with #  (#/net .....)
    sudo automount -vc
    Fixed.
Confirmed here too both for Preview.app Open file sluggishness and Finder window population. Thanks Snaggletooh_DE!
    Couple of notes:
    (1) Some folks may be more comfortable using a GUI editor like TextWrangler instead of vi
         a) in the Finder use the GO menu and select Go to Folder
         b) type  '/etc' ( without single quotes ) in the Go to folder dialog box and press the Go button
         c) Right ( Control  ) click the auto_master file in the resulting Finder window. Select "Open with...." and use TextWrangler ( your choice )
         d) Comment out the line by inserting a '#' ( pound sign ) as noted in Snaggletooth_DE's instructions
         e) Save the file  ( probably need to authenticate with your admin password  )
         f) Do the 'sudo automount -vc' per Snaggletooth_DE's instructions. Will need to authenticate again.
    (2) Notice Snaggletooth_DE described this as a "workaround" because it bypasses an Apple bug. Presumably most people have not changed their auto_master file and it worked fine in Mountain Lion and prior. In other words: If you haven't done so already, please continue to submit feedback and bug reports to Apple for this issue.
Kudos to Snaggletooth_DE for figuring out code is trying to look at network ( NFS ) volumes that maybe don't exist.

  • Set default filename for file save dialog on Save button click

    Hi,
I am using AxAcroPDF (version 9.0) control to view pdf files in windows forms (C#). The pdf loads into the viewer in the form. Now, when I click on the Save button in the viewer, a Save dialog pops up with a default filename having complete path info.
If I have loaded the pdf file into AxAcroPDF viewer with filename:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\KB_Kravi\My Documents\CustomerList.pdf"
then in the save dialog, the default filename will be:
    "C_Documents_and_Settings_KB_Kravi_My Documents_CustomerList.pdf"
Is there any option to set the default filename in the save dialog to some short name, instead of this lengthy name?
    Thanks,
