Save dynamic PDF as flattened or read only

I finished filling a form, which is a dynamic PDF. Now that I'm done filling it out, I want to save it as a regular PDF, where the fields cannot be edited, and anyone can open it without needing a special version of adobe (basically just a regular PDF viewer), since it's easier to email, and anyone can open it without a problem. Can this be done?
I have a MacBook Pro, with Yosemite OS.
Thanks guys

Do you understand what "flattening" a PDF does?
It converts fields and annotations content into the context of the PDF and removes the form fields and annotations and they cannot be recovered to their original objects.
I would look at making the fields read only and using a digital signature to disclose if the PDF has been changed after the signature has been applied.

  • Execute "Save As" on PDF Form open, Create Read-Only

I need to create a read-only version of my form so that I can protect the original, so I thought that I could put a app.execMenuItem("SaveAs"); as a new document script to force the user to save as when they open, but it seems to not be working. The file is in a shared dropbox folder, so just a simple read only is not going to work. Is there a better way to achieve what I am doing, or do I just need to change my code?

Oh man! I was really hoping that wasn't going to be the case! Thanks a lot man, I appreciate the help!
I'll leave this forum open for another week, maybe someone else has something experimental to try, thanks everyone!

  • PDF's open in Read-Only Mode

    Hi,
I purchased a Windows 8 (not pro) 64bit system and installed Acrobat XI Pro, I never installed Adobe Reader. The computer and Adobe are both fully updated and I am running into the following problem.
I look for a pdf in my windows browser and when I see in the Preview Pane (which I have eneabled) Acrobat opens the PDF's but will not let me save any edits I make to them. At first this was happing to local and network files but it is not only happening to files in my network drives. I did the following to resolve the problem (which worked, but only for Local Files NOT PDF's in my Network Drives):
    1. Stopped the services for all Adobe products.
    2. Re-named my AcroRD32.exe to AcroRD32.OLD
    3. Opened windows explorer to use Acrobat as the Previewer instead of reader.
This onlly worked for the pdf's I have saved locally, not on network drives.
I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. I receive the following error when leaving a file selected in Preview Pane and working on it simultaneously and try to save it:
"The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
I have also selected a different file in the preview pane and then tried tosave the file and it worked. (This confirmed to me that the problem was with the Preview pane, but only on PDF's saved in a network folder, not locally)
Any suggestions, answers, help? Please and thank you, I appreciate everyone's help or comments!!!!
    Thank you,

  • Impossible to save a pdf file with Adobe Reader 9.1.3

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have the same problem, I recently had to buy a new computer, it uses windows vista and when I went to my financial institution to download my statements I could no longer save the pdf forms. This is something I did monthly when I was on my windows xp machine. When I tried the save as button in the adobe page the button was there and you could click it but nothing happened after that. I upgraded reader to version 9.2 and tried but this time the save as button was no longer there. I went to another machine which had version 9.1 and vista, the button was there but would not function. My bank says I should be able to save the form and the save as button was not greyed out.

  • Save as PDF not working - in Preview only

I am trying to password protect a PDF file so I can email it, and tried to use the "Save As PDF" option in File>Print (in Preview) so I could add a password in the Security Options window.  However, when I do this, nothing seems to happen (the application kind of freezes for about 10 seconds or so, and then it's back to the same print screen).  I tested out whether the Save as PDF option worked in other applications (Word, Excel, Safari) and it works fine.  Only Preview seems to be a problem - which is an issue if I want to password protect docs that are already PDF.  Any suggestions?  I'm running on OSX 10.8.2 on a MBP from early 2011.  Thanks in advance.

  • Could not save as - The file may be read-only or is already open in another application

Can anyone think of a reason why if I'm working locally on a CS3 Flash .fla on my C: drive that I would get the error:
Could not save as: C:\Users\John\Desktop\Project_File\ANNUAL REPORT RELEASE\01-19-11\report_stragegy.fla
The file may be read-only or is already open in another application. Save using a different name, or close the document and try again.
    I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
It happens sporadically. I haven't been able to find a reason why this error pops up when saving some of my .fla files!!
The files are not set to "read only" when I right click on them and choose 'Properties' in the Windows 7.
I found some somewhat similar situations with saving errors:

Sometimes I can save with a different file name. But sometimes I can't and start a new blank document and cut and paste from the one that won't save to the new untitled document.

    Regards, Hitesh
Saving the file as read-only does not mean you cannot make changes, it merely means it is recommended that you open this file as read-only. Also using 'xlWorkbookNormal' is incorrect since this is basically the macro-free xml format. Use the 'xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled'
instead. Now as far as not allowing the user to make changes you will need to protect each worksheet, as well as protect the workbook. So something like
    Sub ProtectWorkbook()
    ThisWorkbook.Protect Structure:=True, Password:="test123"
    Dim sh As Worksheet
    For Each sh In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
    sh.Protect Password:="Test1234"
    Next sh
    End Sub

  • How do I save excel file with password for read only access ?

  • How can I have a .pdf that is encrypted (read only, no printing), but is searchable?

I have a file containing secured .pdf documents.  These documents can be viewed electronically, but cannot be printed.  The security settings chosen are "Encrypt all document contents except metadata," and "Restrict editing and printing of the document."   All the documents have had "recognize text in this file" done on each one.
The document is stored in a folder for scanned documents of this type on a network drive.  The document can be opened and read by anyone with an Acrobat Reader (we use version 8), but they cannot alter it or print it.  However, what is needed is a means to be able to search among all the documents in that folder for particular words within any of the documents.
For example, I could open up the file, and using the "Search" function search "all files and folders" for the word "DEA."  The search engine should then call up every .pdf in that folder that has the word "DEA" somewhere in the text.
If there is no security applied to any of the documents this works just fine.  But when security is applied to the documents the search brings back "Seach is complete, there are no results to display."  The search engine will only find documents within that file that have no security enabled.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Mogadeet

We use Windows XP Professional, version 5.1, Service Pack 3.
I enabled "copying of text, images and other content."  Then ran my test through the Adobe reader and the search engine worked as advertised (I searched for a single word found on the last page of the document, and it called up the document).
The next thing I had to worry about was the copying.  These are controlled documents and this is why we do not want them printable.  We do not have electronic signatures in use as defined in CFR 11, so the signed document is only permitted a certain number of controlled copies within the facility.  Trying copying produced readable and useful copies of the text, but not the signatures nor the template features, and other items like equations did not copy in a manner that made them look like those in the document (again, readable, but not exact reproductions).  This will undoubtably be satisfactory.
I think that simple solution solves the problem.

  • Unable to save LiveCycle PDF form in Adobe Reader: Steps on Adobe don't work

I went to follow the steps provided in the help video on Adobe. Two issues I couldn't solve:
How do you login to LiveCycle via the web as an admin? How do you get to the LiveCycle admin portal?
The local host (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions) is unavailable. Every time I try to go there I get a 500 error message page. What is the new local host?
    The steps I followed were:
So according to a video on its official website, in order to enable LiveCycle forms in Reader so they can be saved you need an Adobe Reader Extension which means we need a Reader Extension Credential loaded onto the server. For that you need to purchase a Reader extension license from Adobe.
However, there is a trial version Eric or Jay could instal for me on the Remote Desktop. They can find it at:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle.html
They will want to download the “Trial Reader Extensions Certificate” under “Downloads and updates”. It’s a 30 day trial which should work fine for our needs.
The credential then needs to be imported into the Adobe Administrator. To do that they need to:
Login to LiveCycle as an admin (via the web?)
    Go to “Settings"
    Go to “Trust store management”
    Go to “Local credentials”
    Click “Import"
Trust store type should be “Reader Extensions Credential”
Give it a name (i.e. Alias)
    Browse to credential file
    .pfx is the credential file
    .txt is the password
    Right-click the .txt
    Click “Open”
    Copy password from notepad
    Close notepad
    Open the .pfx file
Paste in password copied from .txt file under “Password” in import form
    Click OK
Then there’s something about going to Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions program (http://localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions). Don’t ask. I’m personally lost at this point.
In Extensions program they need to:
    Select the Extensions credential
Click the check box next to
    “Basic form fill-in”
    “Import and export data”
    “Submit outside of web browser”
    “Database and web service connectivity”
    “Digital Signatures”
    “Commenting”
    “Online Commenting"
    Set “Draft Level” to “Final”
Click the check box next to “Full Save”
“Browse” to the SNAP Survey I created and saved on the server.
    Click “Apply”
    In new window that appears:
    Click “Download”
    Save back to the server

If you're on the machine that's running LC the administrator console is http://localhost:8080/adminui
If you're not able to get to localhost:8080/ReaderExtensions then I suspect the LiveCycle server is not on your machine.  If that's the case you'll have to find out the name of the server running LiveCycle and connect using that name instead of localhost.

  • How do I make a form READ ONLY??

I am using acrobat to create mutliple contracts that my company uses...we use the same format but change out dates and client information. We use the same document over and over but change the information in the fields, so I have been using the form tools to edit the different sections of the contract. I want to be able to edit the form within my own office and between employees but WE DONT WANT THE FINAL DRAFT to be editable. Is there a way a "LOCK" the form fields or preferably save a copy of a form as a "READ ONLY" document????
Basically I am asking if anyone knows how to save a pdf form as a read only pdf???
    ANY ADVICE WOULD BE AWESOME!?!!

With the preflight tool of Acrobat Pro you can flatten the form fields.

  • Can you save editable pdf as read only

I have a client who's using an editable pdf that I set up in the full version of Acrobat 8.0. They would like to edit the doc in Acrobat Reader and then do a save as and make the doc "read Only" so that their viewers can't edit the document after they have made their changes. Is this possible or am I the only one who can make it readable or not readable with the full version of Acrobat?

You can do it. They can't.
If this is something they are going to do a lot of, recommend that they purchase at least Acrobat Standard if not Pro.
