Save edit from Preview to iPhoto

When I edit photos in Preview, they are not automatically saved to the original album. I have to save the edited photo to the desktop then drag it back into the iPhoto folder. There must be an easier way. Any ideas? MC

How are you saving the edits in Preview? Are you just doing a Command-S? Also editing feature of Preview do you use that iPhoto hasn't got?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

My response:
The pictures don't appear in Preview in the other user account. They also don't appear in the external drive (!!!????). I discovered I can get the pictures into iPhoto by saving from Preview to the desktop, then importing into iPhoto, but only one at a time.
Clearly the files are on the hard drive somewhere, but where? The 'iPhoto library" icon that appears in my Pictures folder is a "package" which can't be opened on it's own....it's only able to be imported into Preview.
This feels like the Twilight Zone to me.....

How to export photos with editing from preview mode to hard drive and external hard drive?

I have applied changes to the photos in the preview mode. Unfortunately, I can't export them from preview mode to hard drive and external drives. Whenever the external drive is plugged, the changes I made are not applied to the photos on the both hard drives.

Sorry what do you mean Preview Mode? There is no Preview mode or module in LR. There is a Library and Develop module in LR. The Library module does have the ability to do some adjustments and the Develop module has all the image adjustments.
In any event to export an image you can either right click on it and select Export or when in the Library module you click the button that says Export.

How do I save photos from Picmonkey into iPhoto??

I'm editing pics on Picmonkey but when I go to save them to my computer, there is no option to save them back into it's folder in iPhoto. There must be a way right?? Help please, new to Mac!

Of course it is. But on a PC you're using the file manager to manage your photos. You can do this on a Mac too. But you're using iPhoto which is a database, which works differently. If you don't want that, use the file manager. Or use an editor actually on your machine...

Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Cannot save photos from Mail, faded iPhoto icon?

Stumped again, I have been emailed 11 photos as an attachment in my Mail application. I want to place the photos into iPhoto, logically click SAVE and hold and then SAVE ALL....the next window opens and looking at PICTURES, the iPhoto Library is faded out, not allowing for saving.
Seems I have missed something, previous to iPhoto '08 this was not an issue in my memory.
Solutions?

It works for me so there's gotta be some glitch in your library or application. Run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions.

If your concerned about space then yes, I woudl recommend doing that.

I can flip images Horozontally using Preview. Save the file. Then import it into iPhoto and it is NO LONGER flipped.

Either drag the attachment from the mail to the iPhoto con in the Dock, or ctrl-click the attachment and use the option "Export to iPhoto" from the pop-up menu (in Mail in MacOS X 10.10). Don't remember, if this worked in Mail in Mac OS X (10.5.8), as your signature is showing.

We have been UNABLE to save photos for FIVE months and have asked Apple Staff anf Joint Venture for help.
ONLY NOW we find out that Apple KNOWS about this and refuses to repair it!

This problem is an OS problem not an iPhoto one, so it will take an OS update to fix it, not an iPhoto one.
10.8.2 is the current version of the Operating System. I got it from Software Update, like everyone else does.

Open the PDF file in Acrobat, not with the PDF viewer of Chrome.

Preview to iPhoto?

I just scanned a bunch of photos into my computer.
I thought that they would automatically be put into iPhoto; instead, they ended up in Preview.
How can I transfer these photos from Preview into iPhoto?
(P.S. I have never understood the purpose of Preview anyway. Anybody able to enlighten me? Thanks.)

Thanks, Trevor. But it didn't work. I couldn't find the photos I wanted to move. I clicked on "Preview" in the left-hand column, but it did not present the photos there. How can I do that?
Actually, I just want to burn these photos on a CD. Is there an easier way to do that? Do I need to go through iPhoto to do that? And any idea why my originally scanned photos didn't end up in iPhoto? I have scanned in photos before and they always ended up in iPhoto. Why didn't they this time? (Is it possible they ended up somewhere else in addition to Preview and I just haven't found them yet?)

this is getting worse and worse. as if doing away with the 'Save As' from Preview wasn't enough, we now do not have the option of emailing a document directly from Preview?
i can't find a workaround except to Duplicate>Save>new email>attach from folder

Not sure why you see that. My share button in Preview (same version) offers to share via email, as the picture below shows.
To be honest, I never use this, anyway. So maybe you can use *my* usual way as *your* workaround: click and hold the icon in the title bar and drag over the Mail icon in the Dock. This does exactly the same thing as the share by email button.
