Save filled form as read only

I have created a form that will be filled in  and saved with the new input.  Once saved, the filled form will be emailed to other people. Is there a way to save this as read only? Or a setting that makes sure whoever opening the email cannot still edit the form?

You cannot really prevent it from being changed you can just make it harder. The easiest way to to flatten the file. It will remove all fields, but retain the entries as if they were in the original file. It will also flatten annotations. You can find the flatten command in the Preflight dialog box. There are javascripts around the net that can put the command on your toolbar.

  • Save pdf form as read only in reader 9

    I've spent the last 2 days looking over the internet and through the various menus on Adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Reader 9 and can't find a solution. I've made a form template in acrobat and it is to be opened by staff in my office using reader so they can edit the form fields and then save it as a non editable form if that makes sense. Reader will only allow it to save a copy, and when you do the form fields are still active form fields.
    I've tried printing to pdf as a workaround but it just saves it as an image and you can't highlight the text anymore which is necessary for this template to work, (information on the form needs to be selectable as text information is copied into other documents at later date).
    I really hope someone can help as this is driving me mad, and seems idiotic of Adobe to leave out such an obvious feature!

    Thanks for that script, it is a great way of securing it from being edited, but reader still won't allow the form to be saved, only as a copy without the inputted text. The idea of what I'm trying to achieve is a form which the staff here fill out and then send to our customers with non editable fields, there is the option to print to pdf but that saves the file as an 'image', this stops people from highlighting text which we don't want, they have to be accessible afterwards to copy and paste the text at a later date.
    I hope someone can help with what should be such a simple action.

  • Saving a reader extended PDF form as read-only

    Before posting this, I've searched for hours in the forums and the internet on how to accomplish this but I just can't find the solution.
    I've created a simple form in Acrobat and saved it with reader extended attributes so it can be saved by my colleagues in Adobe Reader once filled in. The problem now is they need to send these out to customers but in an unfillable state. I'm not sure if this is possible but I'm hoping for a simple solution if anyone could help me out, thanks.

    Create a button somewhere on the form and add the following to the Mouse Up event:
    // Set these fields to read-only
    getField("Text1").readonly = true;
    getField("Text2").readonly = true;
    getField("Check Box1").readonly = true;
    // continue for any other fields
    // Hide this button
    event.target.display = display.hidden;
    Only use the actual field names that you're using in your form. The users should be sure to save to a new file, and I would suggest that they set the blank form to read-only via the file system so they don't accidentally overwrite it.

  • When I try to save a form as "Reader Extended PDF" in Acrobat Pro, I get an error message "This document could not be reader enabled".

    Hello,
    When I try to save a form as “Reader Extended PDF” in Acrobat Pro, I get an error message “This document could not be reader enabled”.
    The steps I’m following are described below:
    1.    Insert electronic signatures
    - In Tasks, click on “Add New Field -> Digital Signature”.
    - Move the square to the place where you want to put the signature and click.
    - Fill in the “field name” with the name of the person who has to sign here.
    - When it is done, click anywhere on the screen.
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
    2.    Save the Form
    - In Tasks, click on “Close Form editing”.
    - Go to menu “File -> Save as -> Reader Extended PDF ->Enable additional features”, click on “Save now”.
    - Fill in the file name and click on “Save”.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.0.0 on a W7 workstation
    Here's a screenshot of the problem.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Forms going read-only in Workbench

    Has anyone else had a problem with forms going read-only unexpectedly in Workbench ES? With no one else logged-in to the server, I'm experiencing intermittent errors where the current form I am working on suddenly thinks it is a read-only document and refuses to allow me to save it back into the repository.
    Any suggestions as to how to resolve this would be appreciated.

    Try to create a new connection from Workbench to the server and give it another name.
    This might solve your problem.

  • Reader 10 cannot save enable form but reader 11 can?

    Created a form with Acrobat Pro v9.  Getting reports that those with v 10 do not get the same message about saving the document with the data as those with version 11.
    What can I do to resolve this?

    Reader 10 requires you to "sign" in order to save the form but Reader 11 does not.
    The message (in purple banner) in 10 is:
    Click 'sign' to fill out and sign the form. When you are done, you can save a copy by clicking 'Done Signing'
    The message in Reader 11 is
    Please fill out the following form. You can save data typed into this form.
    I have both versions so I saved in v10 after "signing" which not a requirement of the form I built.
    Reopening in 10 does not allow me to enter any more data . Message in purple banner is gone.
    Reader 11 allows me to parially complete, save, close, reopen and continue filling out the form.
    Is this really the way these versions work?

  • Hi, Is it possible to enable Adobe ReadersX users to save filled forms without enabling them to have access to the additional features as highlighting etc?

    Hi, Is it possible to enable Adobe ReadersX users to save filled forms without enabling them to have access to the additional features as highlighting etc?

    You can do that with individual pdf files using Adobe Acrobat to set the security.
    In Acrobat go to File>Properties>Security. Choose password security as the security method then choose "restrict editing and printing of the document..." and under "Changes allowed" choose "Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields".

    If you search the forums for Paul's example LockAllFields. This contains a function in a script object that you can call from the click event of the checkbox.

  • Form in read only mode

    Hi,
    I am a beginner in Hyperion. I created one sample form using custom dimension, but i cant able to input the values to the cell. Its in read only mode.
    Thanks,
    PC

    Do you have security on any dimensions? If so and you do not have write access to specific members this will make the form read-only.
    Make sure the intersections you are working with are level 0 data or if you are attempting to write to upper level members you will need to make the version a Top Down rather than Bottom Up.
    If the version you are using has process management enabled then you will need to start the planning cycle using Workflow/Manage Process and select the scenario/version combination -- administrators can write regardless of it being started.
    If your members are in planning however have not been sent to Essbase you will also find the form is read-only. You can do a Manage Database and Refresh to ensure your planning members exist in Essbase also.
    Good Luck,
    John

    Hi,
    See the link below:
    http://info.akgroup.com/blog-0/bid/69277/InfoPath-Restrict-visibility-to-users-in-a-SharePoint-Group
    Here you can add the fomatting action on the field to disable the field if those users belong to certain Sharepoint group (does not matter the permission levels though). Hope it helps.

  • Adobe Acrobat form created and emailed but recipient cannot save the form in reader after filling it out

    When I purchased Acrobat today, the Adobe sales rep told me I could create fill-in forms that I could email to others, who could fill them out using Adobe Reader.  When the recipient tried to save the completed form, he was unable to save it to his computer, only able to print.  Is this correct, or is there a step we are unaware of?  He owns Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, but I'm using Acrobat 11 (purchased it today).  Acrobat Pro 9 cannot open the forms I sent...  now we are stuck.
    Solutions?

    Hi DMOliver,
    Please try saving the form as 'Reader Extended' and check.

  • Sending forms as read only after they are filled out

    Hello, I am having lots of issues with the latest form I am doing in Adobe Designer 7.0. I am not experienced at all with this software. My question I think is easy but nothing ever is. When I submit forms with a submit button to an email address can the attached pdf be set to be read only so the recipient can not make changes to it?
    Pleae help....
    Thanks in advance.
    Crysta

    Hi Crysta,
    you could add some functionality in your form. On the email submit add code to set a value (of an invisible field or directly in the data). Next, in the form ready, run a script that checks if the value has been set, if so, then set the access of the form to "readOnly". Please note that this is no real security. If you need that, you should use encryption and signature fields.

  • Save Fillable Forms on Reader

    Hello,
    I am having difficulties with forms for Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader X. I created a form on word document and exported it to PDF and make the form fillable. If I open the form with Acrobat i can fill the form and save it on my computer. If i open the form with Reader the form can be filled in but cannot save. I need to send this form out to my clients so that they can fill it out and save it and then send back to me. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Is using Acrobat the only solution to save the form? Please confirm. Thank You.

    Oh and, be sure to reader section 15.12.3 of the Acrobat End User License Agreement. There are limitations of use to enabled forms. You'll want to stay within those limits. If you need to exceed those limits, they offer a very expensive server side product that you can use.

  • How does general web public email the form using reader only

    After producing a form in Designer no one was able to email the filled in form back. Is there some very basic step I missed? I had a submit button with my email address entered yet everyone with reader was unable to get the form emailed. If I didn't miss something I guess I don't see the point of creating the form if you need a full version to respond.....

    I did upgrade one of the testers to Reader 7 and it worked. I may have to save the form in two files one for 7 and one for Reader6. The submit by email did function but I had also changed the button and used the one from the Library and set the address to mailto:myemailaddress. What that did was return a .tmp file. So I dragged in a default button from a new file and that corrected it - that one seems to not have the 'mailto' prefix and must have some built in coding to return the data in XML.
    Submiting the data to a server doesn't make much sense unless you have some method of getting the data from the server. Is there such a method built into this program or does that require additional coding?
