I've created a movie in Flash 8 but need to edit it in MX
2004, I'm not too sure how to do this.

Select "File -> Save As..." then in the "Save Type" drop
down list, select 'MX 2004'

Can't save Flash CS5 files

Hi, I can't save my Flash CS5 files. I click file, save as, then appears a gray window with a menu drop down but I can't find any folder to save the file...I've tried to upload a screen shot but when I try to upload the picture the very same gray window appears and I can't do anything...Anyone could give me a hand? Thanks for emailing me your FLA file so we could investigate. It looks like one of your assets is corrupted. This file crashes even in Flash CS4 when I drag sparks.jpg to the stage.
Flash CS5 crashes more quickly because it tries to validate this asset on save but can't because that asset is corrupted. If you remove sparks.jpg from the library, you can save the file in Flash CS5.

Flash not letting me save new .as files.

Starting today, Flash Pro CS5.5. started not allowing me to save new .as files. I was working in a .fla file containing a MovieClip entitiled 'Background'. From the library, I control-clicked on 'Background' and selected 'Edit Class'. As usual, Flash created a file called 'script 1' , but then it wouldn't let me save it withe the appropriate filename 'Background.as'. (see error message screenshot). I also noticed that Flash gives me the same message no matter what filename I attempt to give the script. However, saving it on the desktop and then moving it into the correct directory afterwards worked. Any ideas? Is this a setting that got messed up somehow where Flash won't let me save to certain directories? I don't know if this is related, but I just installed the latest Java update from Apple today before having this problem. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

..and suddenly I'm experiencing the same thing.
I've also just installed the latest Java update via Software Update but that may be totallly unrelated.

Thanks, but I use publish/export settings with GPU hardware acceleration and flash version 11.2 (and 11.8) but nothing happening.
And why gif file is not all transparenty then I insert on lightblue background? It can't export good quality? Also I use Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Edge Animate. And nothing happening. Why cant I save a cs4 file as cs5 in adobe flash cs5

When ever I try to save a cs4 file as CS5 the adobe flash cs5 will stop responding for no reasons
also, some times and only for some files when I save the cs4 file as uncompressed cs5 and then save that uncompressed cs5 to normal cs5 the conversion works and some times not.
ofcourse any of the cs5 files cannot be saved as cs3 or cs2 for no reasons..
p/s: microsoft office can be saved to any previous versions.. adobe should learn something from them..

When I save an rtf file in text edit, it retrieves with codes

Every time I save an RTF file since lion, when I later retrieve a file it's code filled file. Does anyone know what this is and how to prevent it (or tell text edit to retrieve normally)?

I resolved this by using the open... menu and unchecking "Ignore Rich Text Commands"

Can you save an Illustrator file to an Editable PDF format

I have made a menu for a Restuarant on Illustrator and I want my client to be able to go into the file and edit the text. They do not have illustrator and was wondering if I can save it as an Editable PDF?

No. You cannot create Enabled PDF Forms (that's what you're talking about) from Illustrator. Illustrator can export a PDF, but it is not Enabled For Reader Extensions. It contains no editable fields.
1. Do your artwork in Illustrator. Leave out the fields that you want the end user to be able to edit.
2. Save as PDF (without Illustrator editability).
3. Open in Acrobat Professional.
4. Create the desired fields and set their properties. Save the file.
5. Enable the file for Reader Extensions (it's a command in Acrobat Professional.) Save the file again under a different name. That's the file you distribute to your end users. Your end users can then open it in Adobe Reader, edit the fields and save their edits.

Save metadata to file + Edit in PS = Reset develop adjustments?

I don't know if this issue has been raised before, since it's not easy to describe it and, hence, to perform a search based on it. I would like to know if this is a bug or there is some reason for it which I haven't think of yet.
Let me explain... I use LR 3.3 to develop a raw file as usual. Ok. Then I do "Edit in PS" to perform some pixel edition, then back to Lr. Next, I apply some LR adjustments to the resulting file (PSD or TIFF, depending on the preferences) that I just edited in PS. So far, everything's fine: I can keep going back and forth between PS and LR without trouble...
... but if I save metadata to file (control+S), and then try to edit the PSD/TIFF as "original" in PS, guess what: the file opens in PS with the LR adjustments not visible (this is normal), but simultaneously, the develop settings for the file are reset in Lightroom! So, to summarize:
1) I develop a raw file using LR adjustments
2) I edit in PS and save as PSD (or tiff, depending on the preferences)
3) Back in LR, i apply some develop adjustments to the new PSD/TIFF file.
4) I save metadata to file and choose "edit in PS as original"
5) The file opens in PS, but the settings for the file are reset in LR!
This doesn't happen if I uncheck the "Include develop settings in metadata in jpg, tiff and psd files" in the Metadata tab of the Catalog preferences.
I could record a video (screencast) if the explanation is not clear enough. Thanks in advance for your answers!

I have recorded a screencast. For some reason, now I can't make it happen the first time around - I have had to do it twice this time (save metadata to psd file, edit in Ps, close Ps, save metadata to psd file, edit in Ps).
I won't go into details since I think the video is pretty self explanatory. I know it's not usual to save metadata to file (including develop settings) just before editing in PS, but... is this normal, expected behavior? Am I doing something wrong without noticing? Same thing happen both in my desktop PC (Win 7 64, LR 3.3, CS5 64) and my laptop (Vista 32, LR 3.3, CS5 32).

Can't save Flash files to server or NAS

We bought a new iMac yesterday and unfortunately it ships with Mavericks.
With Mavericks installed, i am no longer able to (resave) any Adobe Flash files (.fla) to any of our servers or local storage devices.
When saving the file the first time all seems fine, trying to save the same file again results in the error message bellow.
The error message : "Unable to save the documents as '/volumes/content/users/brian/test.fla' Please try saving to a different filename or ta different location"
Saving a file locally doesn't give me these problems.
My old iMac in the same network with Mountain Lion didn't have these problems.
Is there a method to downgrade this imac to Mountain Lion or is there another workaround?

Sounds like your tif file is in the 16 bits/channel mode.
If you go to Image>Mode are you able to click on 8 Bits/Channel and then are you able to save as a jpeg?

The December 2013 update(13.1.0.226) already resolved the buzzing sound issue on Maverics. Please update your Flash CC for that fix.
Save issue is under investigation. While this issue is being fixed, you can recover the corrupted files by following the below steps
1. Change the file extension of your corrupted fla to zip eg: corrupt.fla to corrupt.zip
2. Extract the zip file
3. Open the xfl file from the extracted folder in Flash CC(you will see the file is of up to date and non-corrupted)
Other trivial work-arounds:
1. Save your file as .xfl(uncompressed fla) instead of .fla
2. Connect your shared location via afp protocol on Mac 10.9 whereever-possible
3. Use Mac 10.8 or lower versions if-possible

Editing Flash CS4 files in Flash CS3

Looking to upgrade our main multimedia production machine from CS3 to CS4, but we probably won't upgrade all the other machines just yet.
Main question: If you work on a Flash file in CS4, can you work on it in CS3 and save it, or will some of the functionality be lost in doing so? Or is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way to make sure it works?
Also, is there any issue with importing CS3 Illustrator, Flash or any other kind of files into After Effects CS4?

cs4 can save files for cs3 so, it "..is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way..".
you could lose some functionality if you used any flash player 10 capabilites that aren't in fp 9. to prevent that you would always publish for fp 9 in your cs4 file to ensure you could use the file in cs3.
i can't see any problems with importing non-flash cs4 files into flash cs3.

Flash 'Unexpected File Format' Save corruption

Hello.
We recently upgraded to Windows 7 64Bit from Windows XP here at work, and since the upgrade i've discovered a very scary issue with Flash.
When going to save one of my large projects, often Adobe simply crashes outright, freezing up and displaying a standard error message.
"Adobe Flash CS5 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." - with an option for "Close program"
I hit close program, and Flash disappears. If I try and open that same FLA file again, I get the error message
"Unexpected File Format"
Unfortunately it seems since Flash is crashing in the middle of saving, it is corrupting my FLA file. This is extremely worrying, since it corrupts my entire source file.
I'm lucky I keep regular backups, otherwise I could have lost months of work instead of just todays. In the meantime I have been copying and pasting a new version of the file each time I open Flash, but it's a crapshoot whether next time I save if it will kill it or not.
Here's the details of my computer:
OS: Windows 7 - Recently upgraded from 32bit Windows XP
64 Bit Intel Xeon X5560 @ 2.80 Ghz
4GB Ram
The Flash CS5 version is 11.0.0.485
The FLA in question is 10MB, and contains some large map files (gifs), lots of small JPG's as well as a fair chunk of code as well as importing of external classes. I've tried replicating the issue on smaller files, and haven't been able to do so.
I was wondering if it was a case of not enough memory, but Flash appears to use around 450 mbs. About 40% of my total memory is free, according to the Task Manager performance.
Any ideas what could fix this issue?

Are you seriously (no really, SERIOUSLY?!?) telling us that Flash is not designed to save files over a network?!?!?
I am really upset by the fact that Flash is such a badly designed product and I'm even more upset by the fact that appearently Adobe doesn't give a ***** about it!
Are you aware that in the modern world EVERY company has a policy to save files over a network? For most developers it's not a choice of saving locally, it's just not an option. We are forced to use networkdrives, and if I may say so, I totally agree we should! Come on Adobe, this is 2011 you know! And saying in your technote (from 2009!) that we just have to use a third-party version control system is totally rediculous!
A few things that I like to say about this matter:
1) I have been using Flash for about 10 years now. I have been using a network drive most of this time and I never (really, never!) experienced corrupt files while saving. Even with flash 5 there was no problem at all! So something changed with Flash CS5 and Flash CS5.5 and Adobe is too lazy to admit it. Very bad....
2) Why is it that software like Photoshop is able to save over a network without any problems? Why is a PSD-file so much different from a FLA-file? Surely Adobe must have people on the payroll that are perfectly able to code software that can save over a network? Photoshop proves it's possible, doesn't it?
3) I told you in the beginning of this forumpost that I'm saving my files over a network. Why didn't you show us the technote at that point? Why did you ask me to send you sourcefiles first? Is there some boss that told you to get rid of those nasty questions, or something?
4) I'm really surprised that the technote says that Flash IDE is not "designed" to function across LANs. Why is this not mentioned on the Flash Product Page where you want us to pay $699 for this product? I would really like to know this as a new customer! Something in the features like: "Beware, unlike other software, Flash Professional is NOT ABLE to save your files across LANs. If you try to save, flash will most definately corrupt your files beyond repair".
5) As you can see, I am really upset about this and especially about the attitude Adobe is displaying about this. I'm am surely going to twitter this to everyone I know and start a good amount of posts in the Flash Community about this.You really can't do this, Adobe.
You might not suspect this, but I am actually a big fan of Flash, as I suspect most of you are. I like to think that I support Flash despite the fact that Apple is pissing all over it lately. I defend it to people by saying it's a wonderfull product that does wonderfull things. I am very dissapointed that Adobe is letting us down like this.
Please answer these question for us. I'm sure the Flashcommunity is dying to know what's going on here!
And also, please ask your developers to fix this annoying problem. I'm sure it's not impossible....
