Save for Reader 6

I am having a problem in Acrobat 9 Pro, where I create an editable form, and need to save it out so that the user (who has reader 6) can use it.  By default, it seems that the lowest version I can save down to, with "enable user rights" is version 7.
When I use, "Save as optimized pdf" I have to disable the user rights to save to version 6.
Any ideas?

I couldn't agree more.  Unfortunately the users cannot install things on their computers, only the IT department at my company can do that, and, previously, we had no requirement for a version of Adobe Reader.
And, on top of that, our IT department is, as is the case with many, archaically slow with requests, and caught up with one large project that takes all of their resources.  We were hoping to find a workaround to avoid an IT project request, but are going that route now that we know that it is impossible with Reader 6.
Thank you all for the assistance.

  • Save for reader signature

    I was just informed Acrobat pro 10 has a feature where you can save a pdf in a format that allows you to digitally sign a pdf with reader, is this possible with Acrobat Pro 9? This is something we want to do just haven"t much time to look into it.
    Thanks, any info on digital signatures would be helpful

    In Acrobat Pro, open the document and select: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
    You may also want to add a digital signature field to a page. To do so, select "Forms > Add or Edit Fields", which will bring you to forms editing mode where you can add a signature field.

  • Enabling form fill-in & save for Reader

    I'm working with Acrobat XI (11.0.10) and created a form (questionnaire). I need others to open it with Adobe Reader, fill it out and be able to save it afterwards. It seems to work with Adobe Reader 11.0.10 but not with Version 10. So I tried to save it with "save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools (includes form fill-in & save)..." However, the error "This document could not be Reader Enabled." popped up. Why isn't it working? Is it since I'm using the trial version?

    The trial version is not restricted. Looks like a problem of your form.

  • How can I save adobe reader file from gmail into my adobe reader app?? i would like to open one file in place where I'm not able to access internet and for that reason i would like to save it. is that even possible?

    How can i save adobe reader file from my gmail into my adobe reader application. or is there any other way i can save it into my phone so I'm able to open in any situation not just from my gmail???

    Long hold on the document in mail and it should give you the open in... option, select adobe reader and the file is now saved locally for viewing even while offline.

  • Automate Save as, Reader Extended for 160 .pdf forms using a script or macro?

    I have 167 pdf forms made using Adobe Acrobat Pro X. when I sent out a test it could not be saved using Adobe reader. I know how to Save As; Reader Exended pdf; Enable additional features.  this also forces me to create yet another document called something different like mydoc-2.pdf. Since you can't save these feature in the existing one?
    Is there a way to automate this using javascript or something so I don't have to do each one.
    1. open each pdf documewnt
    2. set the Save As; Reader Exended pdf; Enable additional features.
    3. save as name -2
    repeat 1-3 for 167 files in folder A

    There is no Adobe supported means for automating the application of usage rights, apart from their LiveCycle Reader Extensions server-based product. This is a very intentional restriction.

  • Enable "Save" rights for Reader using LC Server

    Hello All,
    To enable the "Save" rights for Reader I can use Acrobat Pro menu option Advanced -> Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader...
    What is the option in Reader Extensions console that maps to this right? Also, what service would this map to in Reader Extension WSDL?
    Thanks.

  • Basics: Save Rights Enabled for Reader

    I have an involved Applescript that handles/creates pdfs for our clients. The only thing I need Acrobat Pro 9.4 to do is to create the Rights Enabled option for Reader and save as into a new file. Ideally, without having to use the GUI interface.
    Reading up on the API, every reference to Rights Enabled seems to be in the context of Forms, or Live Cycle. None of those would seem to be required? And there are several atomic levels that can be rights enabled, it seems, which is good. Even if I have none of these environments, is the effect of the menu command of "Enable Rights ..." the same as saving each of these options to a new pdf? I'm assuming this is an application level javascript?
    Starting to work the javascript examples in the API is frustrating because everything after "var jsNum = 10" fails to seem to work and the errors reported don't make sense in the context I'm seeing them. i'm not dumb, just inexperienced with javascript. Its frustrating when the examples copied and pasted error out, etc.
    Some pointers to guides that give me better context would be appreciated, so as not to clog the forum with newbie chatter, thanx, sam

    Thanks for explaining why I couldn't determine this.
    Thanks for the offer of explaining what I'm seeing with the basic API examples. The second one is here, from page 51, example 4.2 of the Adobe Acrobat SDK document:
    // Create a new PDF document:
    var newDoc = app.newDoc();
    // Insert doc1.pdf:
    newDoc.insertPages({
    nPage: -1,
    cPath: "Macintosh HD:tmp:1.pdf",
    // Insert doc2.pdf:
    newDoc.insertPages({
    nPage: newDoc.numPages-1,
    cPath: "Macintosh HD:tmp:2.pdf",
    // Save the new document:
    newDoc.saveAs({
    cPath: "Macintosh HD:tmp:11.pdf";
    // Close the new document without notifying the user:
    newDoc.closeDoc(true);
    SyntaxError: missing } after property list
    13:Console:Exec
    undefined
    OK, counting lines it appears to be after the newDoc.close statement. But to my way of thinking all the braces, parentheses are closed.
    I tried removing the returns after each cPath statement thinking perhaps I shouldn't have a return before the closing }); a long shot. Looking at my /tmp directory, I don't see a new pdf called 11.pdf.
    Clearly, there's something basic I'm missing here that I'm unaware of the context, thanx, sam

  • Automate save as reader extended pdf for commenting

    Does anyone know a way to create an applet or droplet that will save a PDF as a reader-extended PDF for commenting?
    I make lots of individual PDFs and each time I have to open the PDF and save as reader extended etc. Sometimes I forget.
    Can this be done with Automator? Quickeys? An Acrobat Action? Applescript? I haven't figured it out yet but it sure would be helpful!

    There is no Adobe supported means for automating the application of usage rights, apart from their LiveCycle Reader Extensions server-based product. This is a very intentional restriction.

  • .gif preview slow in Save for Web

    I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
    My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
    I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
    I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
    Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.

    I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning.  I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well.  I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space.  I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

  • SAV for Mac 9.2.7 released!

    Hey everyone,
    We released SAV for Mac 9.2.7 to all home users late last week.
    This release at a glance:
    Compatible with OSX 10.6 - 10.10
    Stability and performance improvements
    Updated threat engine and threat data (release notes for threat detection engine)
    Provides an updated version of OpenSSL
    Fixed SophosUIServer.app crashes
    Fixed streaming issues from francetv.fr website
    How to get the update?
    If you're already running SAV, you should have automatically recieved the update courtesy of Sophos AutoUpdate
    You can also manually trigger an update by clicking the Sophos sheild tray icon and clicking Update Now
    Download a copy from our website
    What about OSX 10.11 "El Capitian"?
    In the last few weeks I've seen some folks asking about 10.11, which is currently available as a pre-release. At the moment, SAV 9.2.7 *should* work if SAV is already installed before you upgrade, but the install will fail if you attempt to install a fresh copy post-upgrade. That said, we'll be releasing another update for SAV prior to the official release of 10.11 "El Capitain"  which will ensure full compatibility, so at the moment we recommend upgrading with caution.
    Questions? Feedback on SAV 9.2.7?
    Post it here and we'll get back to you ASAP!

    in case you didn't see it

    That should help you out.

    LIke I said, I sure hope somebody can help me out.   Any suggestions would be appreciated.   The only thing I could think that might be causing this is the fact that I upgraded to Maverick (Apple OSX) about 2.5 weeks ago.  But this problem didn't start until about 3 days ago, so surely that's not the issue.  Anyway, figured it was worth mentioning.
    Please let me know.
    Thank you,
    Jamie Richards, a fellow Photoshop addict

    I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
    1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
    2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
    3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
    Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
    Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

  • Enter event not triggering for read-only checkbox

    I have some objects in a form that get "locked" when the user signs the form.  I'm not using the digital signatures.  Instead, when the user types their name into the signature text field, a script runs on the change event that makes all of the fields in the form read only.  It also unlocks the fields if the signature is deleted.
    I was worried that we would get a lot of phone calls with users that didn't understand that the form had locked ("Why doesn't this form work?!"), so I added some code to the enter event for all of the fields that would pop up a messagebox to explain to people trying to edit a signed form that the form was locked and that they would need to delete the signature to edit the form.
    This plan works perfect for my text fields and decimal fields.  It does NOT work at all for my checkboxes.  For some reason, the enter event is never triggered for read-only checkboxes.  I don't see any other events that would obviously work for me though.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thanks, those are reasonable suggestions.
    In the first suggestion, I'm unclear about one aspect of how I would accomplish this.  I assume I would allow people to modify fields in the form, but that when they did, a msgbox would pop up that would inform them that, if they continued with this modification to a signed form, the signature would be removed.  I'm all good to that point.  But if they answered that they do not want to continue modifying that field and removing the signature, how can I code it to set the value back to what it was before the change?  Is there some method that will give me access to the value of the field BEFORE the attempted modification?  I went looking for something like $.previousvalue, but found nothing.
    I'd suggest that I could use a two-stage solution, in which I store the previous value on the enter event, and save it just in case they do not want to change the field when prompted by the msgbox, but since the enter event does not exist for checkboxes (my original problem), that seems like it won't work.
    As far as radio button suggestion, I like radio buttons very much except for one fatal flaw: they aren't (as far as I can tell) clearable.  That is a shame.  Clearly some people (like me) want both exclusivity AND clearability.  And we'd like the controls to have an enter event.  But I know I'm demanding   Anyway, as it is, I just end up having to use checkboxes and create a boatload of silly code to make them exclusive.

  • How do I USE the slices I generate in Illustrator from "Save for Web"?

    I am having trouble understanding slices. I want to save a raster graphic from Illustrator that takes advantage of "slices" to put hyperlinks to certain labels. I am working on a map with about 20 links to a website describing recreation sites shown on the map.
    I am able to do this by bringing my map as a graphic into InDesign, and setting up links to text or picture boxes there. I can export an interactive PDF of the map, and the PDF has live links.
    but the client's web host can't post the PDF with active links. (client would have to link from a static image to a copy of the PDF on a separate website). We may do this as an interim measure.
    So I'd like to go back and figure out how to use slices in Illustrator to do the same thing. I've seen web pages that have a series of sliced-up graphics; I wouldn't wish that on anyone but it's the solution I want to get to.
    Illustrator tutorials and help describe how to set up slices, how to type in links in the "slice options" dialogue box (in objects/slices... pulldown menu). And describe how to "save for web" to generate JPEGs or GIFs of the individual slices.
    My available options in AI CC 2014 (I checked in CS6 too) are to save the slices as images. (Helpful articles which say to save as HTML and Images...aren't helpful if I don't have that option).
    I get a folder called images, that contains about 74 sliced JPEGs of various sizes and shapes. I don't see, nor see an option where I can ask to make...a file that pulls all these together into a single image, with clickable links. There's no HTML file (or way to create one that I can see).
    What am I missing? What application would I use to toss this folder's contents together. Or how would I create the HTML or envelope file within Illustrator?
    I have entered URLs for links in three or four different places but haven't found a way to export them in such a way that they are actually useful.
    Thanks for your help.
    Ben PEase

    Thanks, I am a print guy, mostly. I've almost figured out CSS for my did-it-myself website, so buttons, actions, slices, etc. are new angles for me.  I am hip to the general concept that Adobe likes certain applications to do certain things. It was certainly easier to set up links from InDesign.
    In what application would you suggest I DO foolishly create my interactions (raster graphic with multiple links? Does it work any better in Photoshop?  The client's web host does the web design (some sort of template thing)  so I don't believe I have the option of drawing hot-spots like is (was?) possible in Dreamweaver.
    (That may be a question for the web host).
    One of the problems with "discontinuing this functionality" is there are about half a dozen how-to guides online that suggest it is still possible to kluge a solution in AI (sometimes in older versions) and it's hard to tell well-executed funtionality from abandoned functionality since Adobe hides instructions in multiple, random dialogue boxes, and left so many of the pieces strewn about the current versions of AI.... How would we really know?  But I am not all that surprised they did.

  • Preview options in the "save for web" dialog

    According to the reference, the previews in the "save for web" dialog are there only for showing how the image can be seen on various platforms with different gamma values.
    But, if we open a non-sRGB image (ProPhoto for example) by the "save for web" option, the preview options (other than the "use document profile) in the "save for web" dialog assign sRGB color space to the image even when the "convert to sRGB" option is unchecked ... this causes unrealistic, dull previews for the image.
    What is the reason behind that PS assigns sRGB to the image previews if we uncheck "convert to sRGB" option?

    Basically, how animation works with GIF and Save for Web in PSE is that each layer in your document is a frame of animation. So you see one layer, then the next, and so on. You should not see the contents of the last frame/layer when looking at the current/next frame of the animation.
    Could you post a screen shot of your layers panel and give us a link to the GIF that is coming out of Save for Web?

  • Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs

    I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.

    There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
    Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background.
