Save for web action acting weird.

When I record a save for web action that exports my artboard in 3 file sizes. 100%, 200% and 400% it works for the first few files.
Then suddenly after a while the first export changes its width and height from 100% to 111%, but not just 111% width and height equally. No it pulls it out of proportion too.
When I manually enter 100% again it all pops back to the correct aspect ration.
The 200% and 400% still behave as expected.
If I rerecord it it starts working again. But that defeats the purpose.

I have been using this action for a long time. Also the other options won't run until the first one is finished.
I do this on a file by file basis. So I don't try to run a lot of files the same time.
Illustrator is really bad at changing resolutions in the save for web window if you change it yourslef. It is extremely slow in updating. It doesn't update actually you need to click in a few other fields for it to update. This is for enlarging and downsizing. With small and large images.
If you use an action that has the % prefilled it does it immediatly. So it can do, just not in the window you are supposed to do it in. That is the reason I have to use actions.
The action has been working as intended in all the other CS versions I used. And was working till recently in CC.

  • Save for web action

I am trying to automate our process of saving files in 3 different pixel sizes for our website from Illustrator. The problem is when you set the size by pixel, the action picks up the percentage.
I need the files to save within a 400 x 400 pixel square. How can I do this with an Action.
FYI: the same idea works great in Photoshop with bitmap images.
    Thanks in advance!

  • 'Save for Web' action does not set transparency for gifs ??!?

I recorded an action that just performs a 'Save for Web' while setting the white background to transparent.
The action does not save/preserve the transparency, in any mode I run it (i.e. Destination None | Save&close | folder).
Is this a known bug ?!? the same exact 'Save for Web' procedure do create a transparent background when performed interactively.
    Thanks, ciao

Same issue. Hoping someone responds to this thread soon

  • PS CS6 action save for web error

In Photoshop CS6 actions when we save the image as JPEG through save for web it doesn't work when we run it, instead it runs and saves the image as HTML, i guess some error in it. I tried it again and again but it doesn't remember my save for web settings and saves the images as HTML.

It a new bug in CS6 though when you recorded the action you saved jpeg images to you desktop and you only entered file names onto the save for web action steps the action recorder recorded name.html.  I replaced you save for web steps on my machine for my desktop and CS6 recorded  name.html.  I then did the same with CS5 though I only entered names CS5 recorded name.jpg.
If you expand the export steps tou will see the hard coded file names and extention
An action like this will always save the same files it can not be batch because you recorded Path and Names in the save for web steps.  The .html files saved on with CS6 are actually jpeg files and if you rename them hrom name.html to name.jpg you can use them,

  • Image resize quality not saved in Save For Web Preset?

    L.S.,
I have been working on an Action to create 12 separate PNG's for further use in my icon-software. What I do is basically this:
Start out with a 256x256px image, save it for web four times in steps from 256, 48, 32 and 16px, (32-bit)
apply some masks / layers, save it for web again four times from 256-16px,  (8-bit)
set the mode to indexed colour / apply other masks and layers, and save it for web again from 256-16px. (4-bit)
I let the sizing be done in the Save for Web step.
The 256-sized pics give me no problem as they are not scaled down.
The 32-bit pics give me no problem as they are scaled down, and antialias comes along, but they have 8-bit transparency: no problem.
In the 8-bit and 4-bit versions from 48-16px, I definitely want no antialias in the sized down versions. So I set the resize quality to 'Nearest Neighbor'.
However, Photoshop seems not to be able to remember different resize qualities in one Action.
In every Save for Web-action that I do, when I set it to resize, it does so. But the resize quality is not taken from the setting. It seems to be taken from the last used or recorded setting.
    That is pretty annoying, because:
    - When I let the downscaled ones of the first 4, be downscaled 'bicubic sharper'
    - And I let the downscaled ones of the second 4, and third 4, be downscaled 'nearest neighbor'
Next time I run the Action, all downscaling is done by 'nearest neigbor'. That ruins my downscaled 32-bit icons - they get jaggy.
If I alter the steps in the action manually and set the first ones to 'bicubic sharper' again, suddenly all downscaled ones are done by 'bicubic sharper'.
That ruins my downscaled 8-bit and 4-bit icons: they get antialias, to lime green, and that shows...
I can save Presets in the Save For Web dialog, but as the groupbox already tells me: these presets only apply to the Image quality parameters, not to the sizing parameters. Those seem to be taken from the last run.
I have one alternative to this: before every Save for Web step, I downsize the image myself, and undo the history step after saving. It's quite some work and I would just rather see that the sizing parameters saved in the Preset!

That's never been saved as part of the S4W presets. Bloody annoying.

  • Is it possible to run a Save for Web Batch?

I am trying to run a batch on a bunch of ai files to save them as JPEG using Save For Web & Devices (so they can be saved with certain settings).
I record a Save For Web action and then try to run a batch, but the batch just hangs at the Save For Web Dialog and waits for me to hit one of the Save/Cancel/Done buttons before continuing. Is there a way around this to get this so it can be a true batch process and not require me to interact with it?
    Thanks

Ahh! That was it! Well, part of it.
Now I got it saving, but I can't seem to override the target directory using the batch, but thats ok.
    Thanks!

  • When batching Save for Web, Illustrator also saves copy of .ai file

This question was asked and abonadoned here, so I'm posting because it's also happening to me.
    CS4 & CS5 (I tried both), Mac OS 10.6
    1. I select the "Save for Web PNG" action, which is part of the default set, and select "Batch."
    2. I choose a source folder and choose a destination folder, and check "Override Action 'Save' Commands."
    3. Illustrator then performs the Save for Web action, but puts the .png files in the original destination specified in the action. It also puts copies of the .ai files in the destination folder I created and specified in the Batch dialog box.
I want the .png files in my folder, and I don't want copies of the .ai files.
Pulling my hair out on this one, going to lunch. Thanks in advance for any help

Ah, ok. That worked, for the most part. When I used "Folder" as the destination, my jpegs were saved to that folder, but I also got the .ai copies again. Argh. It was only when I chose "Save and Close" as the destination that I got just the jpegs.
So "Save for Web" is actually a type of export, rather than a save. It's confusing, since the action is called "Save for Web…"  Plus, the batch works — in the original way I set it up — with a regular Save command.
btw, the top section only goes gray when "Save & Close" is selcted (see screen shot). Thanks for your help.

  • Stop Action in Save for Web

Is it possible to insert a "stop" in the action for save for the web, just before actual save. Basically i want to be able to name my file manually (use distinctive names), but just to automate the picture size option and quality (which don't change). I know that i can write an action for an image resize and than save it with my desired file name, but i was wondering if i can do it all in "one shot" without the altering of original image.

The best you can do is tell Photoshop to show the save for web dialog box
and wait you to make your changes and then click on save. It will not put in
things automatically, you would have to set all options you want. You can
turn on the dialog box by checking the box next to that step in the actions
palette list of steps in the action.

  • Recording Save for Web in an Action still doesn't work properly in Photoshop CS6 13.0.1

There is still an issue with making new actions that include saving for web. While recording the action, save for web functions as it should. But once the action is played, regardless of the original format the saved image should be, it gives it an html filename extension. This can be extremely frustating when you have an action that saves over a hundred images from a single action.
I have seen posts in Adobe forums from many people regarding this very irritating bug, including posts from Adobe employees acknowledging the bug. This was present in the Beta, the initial release, and in this 13.0.1 update. No fix.
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/ps_cs6_actions_recorded_action_expor ts_html_instead_of_jpg
The employee acknowledged this bug THREE months ago (as of this post), yet all things considered, this doesn't seem like something that would take three months to fix!
I have spoken about this bug with a friend that is a computer programmer. Considering that the action is saving the file correctly, and it's only the name that is not saving properly indicates that this is a superficial error, and not an issue that would require rewriting the code completely. Also consider that this WAS functioning properly in CS5, and that this is a very easily reproducible bug. Adobe should have plenty of information required to correct the issue. I understand that this fix may be more or less difficult to do than what I am suggesting, but it should have been fixed by now.
I don't understand this mentality. Please Adobe... Put CS7 down for a little while, and fix what needs to be fixed in CS6. People (myself included) have paid A LOT of money for your products, it's not unreasonable to expect them to work properly. Bugs happen, it's understandable, but it's not unrealistic to expect a fix for them when the software is as expensive as it is. Is there actually any plan to correct this issue?

  • CS3: Having problems creating an Action to "Save for Web"

    Hello All,
I'm trying to create an Action to convert my psd. files to JPEG's suitable for the web.  I'm using a Mac Pro running CS3.  My workspace is Adobe RGB (1998), all files begin as Canon CR2 RAW, are edited at 16 bits, and then saved as psd.  I created an Action the following way from an open psd. image in Photoshop:
    1) Windows>Actions
    2) Create New Action
    3) Re-named "Save For Web" then clicked Record
    4) Image>Duplicate>OK
    5) Edit>Convert to Profile
    6) Changed Destination Space to sRGB IEC61966-2.1>OK
    7) File>Save As
    8) Format> No JPEG option ??????????  What?
Everything seemed fine until I reached the Format stage.  I had many choices, but JPEG was not one of them.  Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?  Thank you!

  • How to save for web AND overwrite original files with Action?

    Hello,
I want to compress a batch of images with "save for web" using a Photoshop Action, and I also want to preserve my folder structure and overwrite source files. The structure is important because it's complex and needs to be structured this way.
    The Problem:
When I choose "save for web", I must define a destination. What happens is all optimized files from within the structure are saved in a single location.
Here's an example of the folder structure
    Folder A
         - Subfolder A1
         - Subfolder A2
    Folder B
         - Subfolder B1
         - Subfolder B2
              -Subfolder B2.2
    Folder C
         -Subfolder C1
    Summary
Is it possible for me to use a Photoshop Action with "save for web", and overwrite my files without moving them from the structure?

No need to re-invent the wheel.
Just learn how to use the Image Processor, Image Processor Pro, or Dr. Brown's Services 1-2-3 in Photoshop and/or Bridge.

  • Actions and Save for Web

I have tried to research this on my own searching the forum and asking users far more advanced than I am to no avail. I thought it might be possible that someone here would know whether what I want is feasible.
I use the "Optimize to file size" feature in the Save For Web Panel constantly. I am planning on doing a large amount of conversions in the near future (by which I mean resaving .jpegs at a certain dimension and resolution. As far as the dimension and resolution go, there is no difficulty creating an action to do that. But the icing on the cake for me is have them all processed through Save for Web at a certain file size (for the sake of argument, say 500K). Yes, I know that the resulting images will vary in quality (obviously) because the end result will very much depend on their file size to begin with but that is not an issue for me for my purposes.
Save for Web has various presets and allows you to save presets; however, it does not allow you to save the Optimize to file size as a preset. When I try to record an action, and go to the Save for Web, use the Optimize etcetera, the action created lists the quality of the image I process to record the action. So, for example, if my image is less than 500K, the quality recorded in the action is 100. If my image exceeds 500K, the quality might be 86 and that is what the action records. For whatever reason, what is recorded is the quality rather than the 500K. I am not sure if this is being written clearly enough to explain. I want every image to end up being 500K regardless of what the final quality is (quality being the difference between the original image and the image as saved by Save for Web). But actions are saving the attribute of quality rather than file size.  Sigh. I think I am just repeating myself trying to make it clear but probably failing. In case a screen shot helps clarify, here it is. If this can't be done, I would love to know that so I can give up trying.

I want every image to end up being 500K regardless of what the final quality is (quality being the difference between the original image and the image as saved by Save for Web).
You may have to resort to Scripting for this task … it may need a fairly convoluted approach but I think it has come up before, so someone may be able to help you over at

  • Why can't I save for web in a specific folder using actions?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save in a specific folder desitnations when using Actions and Saving For Web with CS6 PS for Windows. It ALWAYS defaults to last folder used. I am not Batch Processing, just using Actions on one image at a time. I have 3 of these actions. Action one is for "Thumbnail" folder, Action two is for "Full" folder, and Action three is for "Large" folder. All these actions are doing is saving for web into these folders (path displays correctly in Action script). HOWEVER after I successfully  use Action one and save into the Thumbnail folder and move on to Action 2, it wants to save back into Thumbnail AND NOT into Full folder. In short I now have 3 actions saving to the same folder even though my recording designated 3 different locations. HELP!

Ok...I switched to my home Mac and was having similar issues with the toggle Save for Web window on. Saving to same folder even in Mac OS. Tried your way by keeping toggle off and it worked, saving diff images to different folders. I guess I have to figure a work around for the naming conventions however. My original is a 5 digit number lets say 11111.jpg. When I duplicate / use a sizing action I get two additional photos named 11111 copy.jpg.  That is why I kept toggle window on in CS3 so I could simply paste the 11111 name back in the dialogue window so I'd have three diff size photos in three diff folders named 11111.jpg.
These steps might seem super basic but I do these steps for a website all day everyday three months straight without issue and I guess I have to adjust. I usually use orignal photos and have to rename.  Is there a way to Duplicate images as the same 11111.jpg instead of 11111 copy.jpg? That way I can just rename the photo at the beginning (red_flower_000ddafjdflj to 11111.jpg) and not use toggle (or rename at all).

  • Override action "save as" command with save for web batch processing

    Hi everyone,
I've created an action that uses the save for web dialogue to optimise images for the web. When I use the batch command to process a full folder of images, even though I have "Override action "save as" command" checked, it ignores this and still uses the location that was used when the action was created.
Apparently this is a known issue in CS6 and previous versions but I wondered if anyone knows whether this has been fixed in Photoshop CC?
    Appreciate any advice.
    Thanks

Since save for web is an export plugin, none of the destination options have any effect on where the files are saved
    or the file names.
Save for web only saves the files to the folder specified when you recorded the action.
(it's always been that way and still is in photoshop cc)
You might look at the Image Processor Pro
(included in Dr. Brown’s Services 2.3.1)
(has a save for web option)

  • "Save for web" overwrite (rather than a save-as) within an action?

    Hello.
I have created an action with the last step being a 'save for web' save.
The action works well with regards to saving the processed image(s) to the folder specified in the save for web dialog when recording the action.
I however now need to use the save for web command and have it overwrite the open image in place (then close it).
I can't see how to do this, is it possible?
    Thanks,
    Richard.

in your actions palette you have the ability to tag the action to stop during playback and give you the opportunity to change the export variables.  Check the box to the left of the export command in your actions setup.  That with pause the action during it's run and allow you to make the changes on the fly.
There are also some interesting naming conventions allowed in Bridge that may work well in conjunction with the ability to run Photoshop action commands from Bridge.
If this doesn't do what you want take a screen grab and post it to the list so I can see what your working with.
