Save for web clears GPS data

Hello. I select to preserve all meta data from within Save for Web, and yet GPS data is cleared the exported png.
Is this expected behavior? (And therefore saving all data is not correct?)
Thank you.

You do have options to include metadata in SFW from "All" to "None".
Choosing "All" in SFW does include EXIF and GPS metadata in jpegs but not in pngs.
So SFW is a bit uneven in that department.
The link you gave is correct in the sense that Save As does not give you the option to remove metadata, but on the other hand "none" isn't the only metadata option in SFW.

  • Removing Exif Data with out using "Save for Web"

I have very large files.  I need to remove thw EXIF data.  I do not want to use "save for web" because it impacts the quality and size (recompresses) of the files.  I need the files to remain un changed except for the removal of the EXIF data.
I have a large number of files to do this to.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Thanks Tai Lao for the shortcuts.
I have RAW files to start.  I "process" them and convert to jpg.  Then send them to the client.  But there are times the client doesn't need to be able to view the EXIF data, soooo....
    1. I'm working on seting up an action to convert the processed RAW files to TIFF first,
    2. then, using the shortcuts you listed, set up an action to take the tiff files through the process to strip them of the EXIF data and,
    3. then convert the resulting "EXIF-less" TIFF files to jpg - also using an action.  I'm going to try to build one action to do the whole thing but so far I'm still experimenting... I have to keep the file names...
    Anyway, I'll post my findings.
    Thanks
To whomever left the info about Exiftool - Thanks for that info as well.  I'll check it out but is seems a bit too complicated for large numbers of files.

  • CS3:   Save For Web  and keeping EXIF data???

I thought CS3 made a change to allow maintaining EXIF data within a file when using the Save For Web Option. I have Not found any option or preference for this. And when I use the Save For Web option, I loose the original time/date the images were captured. Since I use 2 different cameras where the file names are different, I rely on this Image Creation date when sorting them within an on-line gallery.
So my question is, IS there truly a way within CS3 to maintain an images EXIF data?
    thanks;

    [advertising link deleted]

I've done this in the past, however... These images then show a color shift when displayed in a web gallery. I am trying to avoid this, that's why when I heard (thru several sources) that in CS3 the "{Save for Web" could/would leave EXIF data intact vs. earlier versions of Photoshop. The "Save for Web" option does display image colors correctly.
This is bad enough, when, while calibrated, colors in Wen galleries appear different between my Mac and PC displays (desktop & laptops)
...but then this is a different issue all together.

  • Photoshop cs5 + Save For Web appends file names

    Hey everyone :
Anyone know of a fix or a preference i can set? Hopefully, the response isn't "Can't do that anymore".
    Example file name/structure:
    Filename_partof-filename.version-01.00.psd
    Issue (save for web):
    CS3 - Filename_partof-filename.version-01.00.jpg
    CS5 - Filename_partof-filename.jpg
Using a period as part of the file name was never a problem before CS5/5.5. Having to re-type half the file name in the SaveForWeb dialog is aggreviating/annoying to say the least. I know I can use hypens and underscores, etc but after using photoshop since v3 and using periods as part of my naming convention for 15 years, ...like I said, it's just an annoyance.
    Anyone come across this? Suggestions?
    Thanks tons,
    Greg

    Adobe Photoshop Version: 12.0.4 (12.0.4x20110407 [20110407.r.1265 2011/04/07:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch]) x64
...yep, everything up to date (more or less).
This isn't a recent CS5 issue but a CS5 issue from the day it was released...I just got aggreviated enough today with it to come here and see if I could find an answer. It's definitely a SaveForWeb issue and not SaveAs.
Here's a similar post from back in March 2011...http://forums.adobe.com/message/3509172#3509172
    Just to be clear...
    - Open new/old PS file
    - Save with name.name.v.01.psd
    - Quit PS
    - Re-open file
    - SaveForWeb
...if you're able to save it out with the file name in tact, I have no idea how.
I've tried 4 different CS5 Photoshops and they all truncate the name after the first period.

  • IPTC issues with Save for Web

I have images with the copyright notice field, copyright status, provider and source fields filled in.
When I do a save for web, I'm trying to adjust the IPTC data that gets saved but nothing I do seems to work. On thumbnails, I don't need any of that data but I can't get it removed. No matter what I select, there's always stuff in the copyright notice field.
Similarly, if I try to simply change the copyright status field and leave everything else as is, I usually lose (data gets wiped out) provider and source and I get extra data put into the copyright URL field which wasn't there before.
I also get the file data cannot be read error when opening up these files sometimes because photoshops seems to mess up how it writes the IPTC data. Image data seems file, it's only when photoshop fills in the copyright url with the same data from the copyright notice without asking me.
In CS2, I had to use ImageReady because it would wipe out all the data and then I just used iView to easily put back in the 3 fields I was using. Now that IR is gone, I figure I need to migrate this to CS3 but no matter what combination of options I select, it seems metadata handling is horribly inconsistent.
Can anyone tell me how it works? I've tried making a script step to set the data I want, I've tried working with an image with the fields the way I want them and then doing the save for web so it records the data I want, I've tried both with and without the include XMP option but I can't seem to get anything to work properly.
Edit: Didn't make it clear but I'm trying to record a batch action where I scale images to 6 different sizes and then do a save for web at each size.
    Please help.
    Thanks

Depending on your use of the image in context, won't the transparent strip "disappear?"
The only solution I know is to open it in Photoshop and manually crop out the transparent strip. AI or Save for Web also seems to antialias the edge of free-standing art over a transparent background. I just make the artwork slightly larger than the final cropped size, save for web, then crop in Photoshop.

When trying to Save for web & Devices I get this error:

I’m running Windows 7/64bit, Home Premium, CS5 trial. This only happens running the 32 bit version of CS5 it works for the 64 bit version.

EXIF is a file format used by digital cameras to store metadata associated with an image.
This metadata can be any of several things:
    date/time
    f-stop
    shutter speed
    camera make/model
    lens make/model
    GPS location
Some photo libraries (such as Flikr) will display the EXIF data alongside the photo.

  • .gif preview slow in Save for Web

I am having an issue in Save for Web where the .gif animation preview works very slow and choppy. I am an advertising designer and many times I need to work on animated .gif banners. I am working with Photoshop CS6. When I play the animation in the frame timeline the animation speed works as intended, a little choppy but the timing isn't too bad. However when I go into the Save for Web screen and play the animation it always appears a lot slower and looks choppy. Anything se to 0.0 or No Delay runs as if its set to .1 seconds. Now if I export the file and open it in Chrome the animation speed seems to go back to normal. This wasn't always the case, I tested this 2 or 3 months ago and the animation speed in the export was also slow and choppy but it must have been fixed in one of the updates since then.
My issue is I don't want to have to preview everything in Chrome after I export it, and then possibly have to go back and tweak it then save again, preview again etc. I have never encountered this issue in previous versions on Photoshop or other machines. Ususally my experience has been the opposite, the frame timeline has always been slower, but previewing in Save fro Web has shown a pretty accurate preview.
I also have a HP laptop running Windows 7, photoshop CS6 and I don't encounter this issue at all. It seems that everyones default answer on all of the forums is "different browsers handle .gif animation speeds differently, etc.." but int he past I have saved a .gif on my mac and it was slow and choppy in the Chrome, then I saved the same file on my PC transfered it back to the mac and previewed in Chrome and the animation played quickly and smoothly.
I can't see it being a hardware issue because the machine I am using is farily new. iMac Late 2013/2013, 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB, running OSX 10.8.4 Mountain Lion.
Could it possibly be a setting or preference that needs to be changed? As I stated above it seems that now when I export the animation works fine in the browser the preview is just slow, but I have read that many people are having this issue so hopedully someone will have a solution.

I don't use a Mac but the first the first thing I do when I have performance problems with Photoshop on my PC is to do some house cleaning.  I reset my Photoshop Preference to a saved copy I made when Photoshop was working well.  I Also clean my disk up clearing caches and temp files so the plenty of scratch space.  I close all applications and look at the machine CPU utilization. Then try Photoshop to see if it is back to its normal performance.

LIke I said, I sure hope somebody can help me out.   Any suggestions would be appreciated.   The only thing I could think that might be causing this is the fact that I upgraded to Maverick (Apple OSX) about 2.5 weeks ago.  But this problem didn't start until about 3 days ago, so surely that's not the issue.  Anyway, figured it was worth mentioning.
    Please let me know.
    Thank you,
Jamie Richards, a fellow Photoshop addict

I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
    1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
    2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
    3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.
Thank god. It took forever to get this cleared up!!

  • Animated Gif - Save for web not showing full frame range

    Hey,
I'm trying to export an animated gif with 52 frames - I'm using the timeline in CS6, it's exported correctly in the past but when I try and save for web only a seemingly arbitrary number of rames appear in the animation. With no clear route to rectify this, I've tried to affect the outcome by simply moving things around on the timeline.
I've had a variety of frame ranges (and frames) numbering between 2 and 6 frames, far off my 52 target. It's a simple image and equally simple transition to keep filesize down but I'm completely bamboozled by this. It looks like a bug but any advice I could get would be much appreciated.

If it worked in the past with CS6 try resetting your CS6 Photoshop Preferences.  If you still have the problem after that.  Up load the PSD file to a server and post a link to it.

  • Objects outside doc size not showing in Save for web

    Hi there guys,
For no apparent reason Ai CS3 started to hide elements outside the document size when saving for web. It was working perfect this morning but then it stopped. I have tried may documents, checked for crop marks, trim marks, clipping masks but I can't figure out what's wrong. I know I can make the document size bigger but this will slow me down a bit. Does anyone know why this is happening? Why I can't see the elements outside the doc's boundaries when I save for web? Let me know if I wasn't clear enough.
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Dan

You, you are my savior, Jesse!!! You, you are! Man, I was going nuts with this. I guess I must've checked it accidently. Well, new trick learned here. Thanks a million.

  • CS5 bug rendering anti-aliased text in 'Save for web'

Seems like there's a bit of a bug when using 'Save for web and devices' with thin weights of type in CS5 for Mac. Although thin type looks fine while working in Illustrator, as soon as you enter the 'Save for web' dialogue, it gets badly mangled. Looks like this issue has been present at least since CS4. It does not happen in Photoshop. It looks particularly bad for light text on a dark background.
Some people may say "sure, Illustrator is not really meant for intensive bitmap work". However, with features like 'pixel preview' and 'snap to pixel', Illustrator has (generally) become a very viable tool for web design, and personally I much prefer it to Photoshop. It is also clear that Adobe intends it to be usable in this manner. So the anti-aliasing render bug is definitely a problem. Just surprised they didn't address it when CS5 was born.
I put up some example images on http://www.thesheep.co.uk/2011/06/24/illustrator-save-for-web-anti-aliasing-problems/ to illustrate the problem.
Does anyone have any clever work-arounds for this? It's a bit annoying to have to move stuff over to PS before exporting, but maybe that's what I have to do. Hopefully Adobe will address this soon.

    Hi,
I am experiencing this same problem of pixelated gifs when I use the "save for web" dialog from Illustrator, but this solution has not worked for me. I have tried the trick of using type-optimized anti-aliasing, but it doesn't change the output at all. I've done this from within the "Image size" tab as well as through Effect>Rasterize>Options)Anti-aliasing: Type Optimized. My image is a logo made entirely from text, although for some of it I used "outline path", so I'm not sure if it still qualifies as text...I'm a newbie at this stuff, so the technical details are still quite opaque to me.
Does anyone know of a solution to this that does not require me to add Photoshop to my workflow?
    I'm using Illustrator in CS5, version 15.0.2.
    Thanks in advance
    Jonathan

  • Help please with output settings in Save For Web Photoshop CS4

I am new to CS4 Photoshop so have been watching tutorials on Lynda.com. According to that tutorial I should have the ability to save a photo as an image in the Output Settings dialog box. The only options my panel gives me are:
    HTML
    Slices
    Background
    Saving Files
I don't have the option for Images Only or for HTML & Images. Are these two hidden somewhere?
I have been experimenting with Save For Web, but when I click on Save I get a panel that lists all the images saved in a folder named "Photos" but I cannot find in that folder any of the images that I optimized and saved for the web. Where are they to be found? Images that show up in Bridge are not my optimized images either.I would be grateful for some assistance with this.

Those settings, HTML, Slices, etc, are the Output Settings you don't normally need to change aonything in there.
Leave it at default and you will just save a version of the image stripped of unnecessary data and reduced to the degree you specified next to the file format choice.
When you press Save in the SfW interface it calls up a Windows OS Save dialog box showing the last used location.
The destination can be changed in the normal way. The Images you already saved will be in the the location that was in that dialog when you saved them.
There is a lot more information in the help pages on this topic!  (Hint.)

  • Crop tool doesn't work in Save for Web GRRRRRR

    Hi,
I'm working with Illustrator CS3 and seem to have a problem with the crop area tool. When exporting an image in "save for web", however, Illustrator just ignores the settings and crops to the artboard.
Is this a know bug? Or my computer going nuts? What should I do?
I took this from the lost archive⦠I seems that slices influence this.
Anybody any clues? (AI 13.02/ OS X 10.4.10)
    thnx

Basically, I would do this as James does. However, James is assuming you know what he means by "Use two applications of Transform effect to make the 3 x 4 array." Since you or another reader may not, I offer the following recipe that I prepared some time ago for a class. It's for 8-up business cards that will fit on letter-size stock.
    SETTING UP THE ELEMENTS
New document, rename Layer 1 to Cards.
Make a rectangle 3.5 X 2 inches (the size of a standard business card). Give it no stroke and a light gray fill (so you can see it as reference; you can clear the fill later).
Make a single set of crop marks for the top left corner. I made a 27-pt. square (3/8 inch) - no stroke or fill - and another at 18 pts (1/4 inch) - .25 stroke, no fill. Copy a horizontal segment from the smaller square, paste, and drag it to snap its left anchor to the bottom left anchor of the larger square. Copy a vertical segment from the small square, paste, and drag it to snap its upper anchor to the top right corner of the larger square. Delete the small square and group the segments/large square. Drag this group into the Symbols panel so you never have to make one again. The group on the page is now a Symbol; drag it by its lower right anchor to snap to the upper left corner of the business card rectangle. The two quarter-inch crop marks are offset from the card by 1/8 inch.
    Select the crop symbol.
Go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
Move Horizontal: 3.5 inches (the width of the card)
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1.
Reference Point (tic-tac-toe thing): right column
    Reflect X: On
OK. The crop marks appear on the upper right corner of the card.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    (Warning box: Apply New Effect)
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: lower row
    Reflect Y: On
OK. Crop marks appear on all four corners of the card.
At this point you can give the card rectangle a fill and stroke of None, and save the card/crop marks combination as a symbol. Call it BC.
Delete all the unused Symbols and Save Symbol Library: "BC"
Target the Card layer (click on the circle)
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 4 inches
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. A copy of the card with its crop marks appears 1/2 inch to right of original.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2.5 inches
    Copies: 3
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. 3 new rows of cards and crops appear below the first row
You now have crop marks for 8-up business cards; the original crop symbol and card rectangle are selected.
Go to the Graphic Styles panel and make this a new graphic style; name it BC 8-Up. Delete all the unused Graphic Styles, and Save Graphic Style Library as "BC 8-UP"
    USING THE ELEMENTS
New document. Drag out an instance of the BC symbol, and put it in the upper left corner of your letter-size page.
Click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. Eight blank business cards are laid out.
New layer. Over the top left business card create or place any combination of type or art you want repeated on all the cards.
Target the layer and click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. The artwork appears in place on all the cards. Any editing you do in the top left card is instantly reflected in the others. Also, because the style is applied to the layer, anything you put on this layer will have the style applied to it.
New layer. Over the top left business card place any type you want to be different on each card. With it selected as an object, click the BC 8-Up style - the type appears on all the cards.
Object > Expand Appearance. The type on each card is now individually editable.

  • Matte in Save for Web matte is adding a border

I have an image that has a transparent background and a thick black border across the top.
When I go to Save for Web and select a white matte, it adds a ~1px white border to the top of the image.  Why is it doing that and how can I get it to stop (other than adding white layers for the background).?
    And where is 4-up?
It would be really nice if Adobe would list features they delete when listing "What's New".

I tried nudging the straight black border up a pixel, but that didn't work.
And I'm not using "clip to artboard" so the placement on the artboard is irrelevant.
I know what mattes are for, I have jagged lines and text within the image.  I prefer not to add a white object to the back of every graph, and I'd prefer not to have 20 artboards on this one page.
I never saw a matte add pixels to straight lines before and never outside the boundaries of the image.  Surely that is not what Adobe intended.
