Save for web & devices' Full page instead of content

I have updated from CS3 to CS5. When I save using "save to web & devices"  it brings it up in full page rather than content size, which I am accustomed to in CS3. No, I do not have the artboard ticked in the export dialog box. I am at a loss, please help, I use this feature frequently. Thanks.

Thanks, you guys are very helpful!  It reduced the size to nearly the artwork size, but not completely, it left some white space to ther right and below.
This brings up another question though. Do I have to go through the "image size" tab process every time I save  to web?
Here is what I am doing:
I created a vector drawing at 48"x24". I resized to 10"x5 . When I click save for web I get the warning window saying that "the image exceeds the size...".  I am sure I get this message because the artboard is still 48x24. When I get past that window I have to  uncheck clip to artboard eaxch time I save to web. Is this normal for CS5? Hope not. I didn't have these additional steps in CS3.
I also noticed that there seems to still be more res pixalation than I had in CS3.
THANKS

  • Save for Web & Devices 2-up view not appearing side by side

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue. In Photoshop CS4, when I used to go  to the Save for Web & Devices screen, I liked using the 2-up view so I could see the difference between my original and the optimized versions. However, I've tried doing this in CS4 now and I remember seeing (in CS3 I believe) where the layout of the 2-up view was side by side (vertically) so you could have the original on the left and the optimized on the right. Now, in CS4, at least on my machine (mac OSX tiger), the 2-up view only displays the original and optimized horizontally (with the original on top and the optimized below). Is this a fixed layout for the 2-up view or can this be changed? Is this normal is something corrupted? I've looked everywhere for a button or setting to click (that I could think of) and have not been able to find a place where the layout setting can be changed. I know it's a very small issue for most people, but I really preferred viewing the two versions side by side vertically instead of one on top of the other. I'm assuming that this is just a setting somewhere that the user could change but I don't know - perhaps this interface update is new to CS4 and is not customizable?
Anyone have any information or solutions to this?

Thanks so much...that was so easy, but I don't think I would ever have found it!
It works now, I just resized the window and it's now side by side...funny how this was not described in the help file when I looked it up!
    Thanks again.

  • CS5 Photoshop - Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error

    Hi folks,
I know similar threads exists, but this one is different. For some reason, out of the blue, I can't use 'Save for Web' anymore. When I choose 'save for web', it opens the preview dialog nicely, up until I save & get this error:
"Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error
Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
Cleared all my settings, and the error remains.
I uninstalled PS CS5, installed it again... still get this error.
Hope someone knows how to fix it!
    Tx!
MacBookPro3,1, running all the latest updates (OSX 10.6.4), CS5 Master Collection.
Luckily still have CS4 Master Collection installed (and Flash CS3).
(I've just got to get this off my chest, CS5 has so much issues that I stopped using it, I'm not getting paid for playing crashtestdummie. Please don't rush any future CS collections and try fixing bugs instead. )

    Hi Wade,
Tx, but 99% of my time, I work on my local system (scratch disk also). Already had problems working with the company's network (files get locked or corrupted while trying to save), so we've learned the hard way not to use the network.
I guess that's somewhat expected if you work with a Mac, in a professional Windows environment.
Meanwhile, I'm a step closer in finding a solution myself. A colleague gave me a great tip, if you create an extra user account on the system, you start with a clean library. On my second account, PS CS5 is working just fine. So clearly, something went wrong in my library. Maybe permissions like you've said. At this point, I could try to fix it by copying files from the one user to the other. But I would like to wait for that connect session so they can see what's wrong.

  • Save for web & devices - Background question

    Hi,
The save for web & devices option is very useful, but there's one thing that causes me a problem & I don't know whether there's an easy solution to it.
Many of the transparent images I create are intended to sit across two or more background colours. As far as I can tell the matte background can only be a solid colour, so the image looks great on one area of the page, but has an unwanted border when over a different area.
Is there anyway to use a bitmap for the background matte, so that the edges of the image are adjusted correctly for its intended location on the page?
I'm just trying to avoid what I do at the moment which is split the image, save the parts with the correct matte colour, then recombine the pieces.
I suspect that the answer will either be 'No', or 'Yes, if you're using CS3+x', but I thought I'd ask anyway.
    Using CS3 by the way.
    Many thanks,
    Paul

And the good news is that Photoshop handled transparent and partially transparent PNGs from way back.

  • Photoshop CS5 Save for Web & Devices

In "Save for Web & Devices", the buttons are cut off at the bottom :\ is there a way to fix this? Here's a screenshot.
click to view full size. As you can see, they're pretty hard to click, though not impossible...

You probably need to use a higher screen resolution.
    1024x768 or higher.
You could also try to resize the save for web dialog by using
the lower right corner to resize.

  • Save For Web & Devices Won't Export Gif Format

    Hi:
I had previously exported a web page created on PS as .jpg slices. Now when I try to export - Save For Web & Devices/Gif - it still saves as .jpg slices. TIA for any advice.

Make sure to select all (command-a) in the SFW dialog to change the settings of linked slices.

  • Save for Web & Devices problems

Hi. I have sliced all my pieces in PS. I then went to Save for Web and Devices. For some reason my slice tool cannot be grabbed (I click on it and it doesn't turn to slicer). Also, the color table is all gray. No colors. I am going nuts! I have tried everything to make them appear.
I am very new to PS. I am taking a DW class (didnt know I had to have extensive knowledge in PS first, so now learning both programs for school), and my project was due last night. I need to hand it in Thur night but I can't do the things I need to in order to get it ready for DW.
Please help somebody! Thank you so much!

There is no slice tool inside Save for Web and Devices dialog, you should slice the image first and then select File > Save for Web & Device

  • 'Save for Web & Devices' selects multiple artboards - AI CS4

I have a simple, two-artboard document (like the old FreeHand days!) but, when I go to 'Save for Web & Devices' to optimise it, the graphic from both pages appear as one optimised image. How can I get it to select only the artboard I am viewing?
    Many thanks.

Well, one way would be to create an artboard that's the size of your art. You can do this easily enough by choosing the Artboard Tool and clicking once on your artwork. Alternatively, you can define slices.

  • Save for Web & Devices... Illustrator CS4

    Hi
I am having trouble saving for web from Illustrator CS4. What I'm finding happens is, when you go to Save for Web & Devices... you can see a pixel of white at the top of the image that runs the full width of the document. At first I thought it was the preview and wouldn't really be there once I had saved it but it was. I first noticed this with a document that contained 2 slices so I thought that the slices I had drawn were inaccurate but they weren't. The images do not increase by a pixel but not sure whether the images distort by a pixel or whether the bottom pixel is cropped off. This doesn't happen with every single file and I've experienced it on more than one machine.
Has anybody else experienced this and know how to fix it?
    Richard.

Please post in the Illy forum.

  • Another save for web devices error - File already exists?

I've been using the same Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7 for about a year now, and only now this problem occurs to me.
Whenever I try to preview gifs in any browser (tried a few), I get the error message "Could not complete this operation. A file by this name already exists."
Tried renaming the files, replacing them, creating new ones, tried to enter preview on old files that previously worked, but always get the same error message.
I did some research and tried deleting both the main Save for Web and Devices pref file, and the other so called "hidden one" in the plugins folder. I've tried reinstalling photoshop from scratch. Nothing works.
Please help me. I'm near desperate :/

Ah, sorry, now I see what you're doing.
I haven't had the issue myself, but I can guess that one or more of the temporary files it needs to create in order to show them in your browser must be failing in creation.  Check the permissions on the folder identified by your TEMP environment variable - you should have Full Control of your TEMP area..
Specifically, it creates a "Save for Web" subfolder there.  You might be able to delete that entirely in order to start afresh.
Just to test, I've opened Photoshop CS4, entered Save for Web & Devices, and pressed the Preview button myself and it worked okay here...  Your TEMP area is likely different than mine.

  • Quick Trim option in Save for Web & Devices

    Hi,
a feature to do a quick Trim in Save for Web & Devices dialogue would be great, especially if it was enabled with a checkbox, then when you enable it, it activates a dialogue with the three options that already exist in Trim option (Transparent pixels, Top left color, Bottom right color).
Let me know what you think.

I need to figure out why my trim option is always grayed out. It's saved in PSD format, yet the option to trim the transparent pixels is grayed out. why is that? what am I doing wrong? I must have to change something.
    Thanks in advance, Linda

  • Save for web & devices not working (CS4)

I noticed today that I can't save for web & devices any more. when I try it shuts down the program and gives me the following message to send a crash report:
Adobe has detected that the application Adobe Illustrator CS4 has unexpectedly quit.
this started as a Photoshop CS4 problem where I also can't save for web & devices any more. before people jump down my throat again for mentioning this Photoshop problem on the Illustrator forum - this is for context only. I have the same problem in both applications. I just include this information here in case it helps. the Photoshop message I get is:
The operation can not be completed.
savign for web & devices worked totally fine up till last night in Photoshop. haven't saved anything out of Illustrator for web & devices in a while but it used to work just fine.
I have a PC and use Windows 7. All my Adobe products are up-to-date.
Any help is much appreciated. Thx a lot!

thank you very much. at least it happened before. I was seriously doubting myself. tried trashing preference files multiple times, but that didn't help. will reinstall everything and see if that does the trick.
    thanks again!

  • Save for Web & Devices window doesn't fit @ 1366 x 768

I'm using a MacBook Air running at 1366 x 768, or within Adobe CS5 requirement tolerances, but whenever I try to 'Save for Web & Devices', the dialogue box that pops up is much too big, vertically speaking, for my screen. Attempting to minimize/maximize doesn't rectify the problem--a substantial portion of the window, including the buttons necessary to execute the save action, are in the not-visible portion of the window. If I hit ENTER/RETURN, I can complete the process, but this is clearly a bug: I should be able to resize the window, or scroll within it.
Is there something else I can do, short of pursue a fix from Adobe? Some setting I've overlooked? I'm running Lion, but this problem started on a Snow Leopard install.

…Yep, that seems to work, but I shouldn't have to hide the Dock, right?…
Wrong!  Yes, you do have to hide the Dock if you want to share the Adobe Photoshop minimum required space with Apple's Dock, which in my opinion should be invisible when not needed, which in turn is for a split second every half hour or more.  I'm sick and tired of Apple shoving ugly, intrusive OS features down our throats (see footnote * in next paragraph).  I want the computer to do what I want, not what Apple wants.

  • Using "Save for Web & Devices" for a Organization Chart with Text

I created a document in CS3 Illustrator that is an Organization Chart. It contains rectangles, lines, and text. It looks great in Illustrator.
I have tried to save it using "Save for Web & Devices" to create a JPEG and a GIF so that I can pop it into a Dreamweaver document as an image and it keeps coming out blurry.
I have tried changing its size and resolution. I have tried opening and exporting it into Photoshop to try to "clean" it up. Nothing seems to be working.
I'm obviously unlettered in this modus operandi!

    Thanks for the response.
The background is transparent and will end up on a white background eventually.
I tried to make it clear in Dreamweaver by scaling it and it did seem to improve it somewhat. But it still doesn't look like the clear copy in Illustrator that I started with...
I also need to be able to embed this in a Word document to print for a hardcopy manual.
I had this same problem with Freehand a few years ago.
