Save for Web error: Could not complete operation
Hi everyone.
I'm having trouble using the Save For Web function on Photoshop CS6. The initial dialog opens fine and I can select any file type to save to etc.
Once I click 'Save...' I get the error "Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occurred."
I have looked up this error and from previous threads I have tried deleting the Save for Web library files and restarting, however this doesn't work (Unless I am deleting the wrong file?).
I'm running a 2.6 GHz Retina Macbook Pro with the latest update installed for Photoshop. I have 16 GB ram.
Strangely, I have a PC running the same version of Photoshop CS6 and it works fine for this function.
Any idea what this could be? I have posted my system info below.

I found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!

3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.

i have a core2duo, xp sp3 running 8GB of ram
3.5GB as my main memory, 4.5GB as my virtual memory.
setup by Gavotte Ramdisk.
and my photoshop cs3 scratch disk is set to a 500GB drive with more 300GB of free space. and i let photoshop cs3 uses upto 100% of the memory (1707MB) and i'm pretty sure i've read all the memory optimization for photoshop cs3 that i could find on the web...
yet i still get this error when trying to save an image using save for web.
my image dimension is 2560x1600 72dpi and saving using jpg high quality 60 settings, the image size is showing 702K. but once i click on save, this msg shows up...

Could not write the file, there is not enough scratch memory available.
what's going on? can somebody help me out?I have 200gb available on my hard drive as well. I am also experiencing the same issue. Plenty of RAM, plenty of hard drive space. I'm getting more an more of the not enough scratch disk errors, even though I've got 2 scratch disks on separate volumes. I know the files I'm working on a pretty large, but normally I'm saving web versions from print resolution files. Photoshop should handle it. Older versions on slower machines would. I'm sure the error is something else, even though it's telling me that there is not enough room.
For me it appears it's only with the preview though. -

Layer Comps To Files - Export error: Could not complete this operation. There are no user slices
I have been using the Export Layer Comps To Files scrips that ships with Adobe Photoshop CS5 for a while and found it very useful, apart from the numbers it automatically adds as a prefix to the layercomp name.
A friend pointed me in the direction of a altered version of this scrips which removes the numbers and only exports the layer comp name, gerat I thought. Not great! After using this successfully for a while the scrip started to throw up errors whenever I attempted to export. Either "No layer comps found" or "Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error: Could not complete this operation. There are no user slices." As I knew there were layercomps for the first error and knew that I had not created any slices for the second error I was pretty miffed. Fortunately I had the foresight to make a copy of the original script from the Photoshop presets library.
I have since deleted the offending script out of my presets folder and copied the original script back in however the error still persists. I constantly receive Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error: Could not complete this operation. There are no user slices. I have searched the forums and around the net to try and find a solution for this problem but none seem to present themselves. I am perplex how this error can persist when the original script is now being used.
If there's is anyone out there who can help me resolve this I'd be most grateful. As I say I've tried to resolve this myself and am pretty computer savvy but this one has defeated me

This has happened to me too and I think I know what causes it.
It happens when you...
1) Do "Save for Web" with the "All User Slices" selected in the dropdown menu "Slices".
(This can only be done with a file that has a user slice)
2) Then try to use the "Layer Comp to Files" script to a file that doesn't have any slices.
To avoid this you need to once open a file that "has" a user slice and save with
the "All Slices" option in the "Slices" menu and then go back to the file you want
to run the script to.
When you run the script, the saved "Slices" option from the previous export seems to
be used and causes an error when there are no user slice.
I also found a fix to the script to avoid this error to come out.
This can be also applied to the fix to "remove the numbers" added to the head of the
exported file names.
The number removal script goes something like this...
var fileNameBody = exportInfo.fileNamePrefix;
if (fileNameBody != "") fileNameBody += "_";
fileNameBody += compRef.name;
this should replace the "Layer Comps to Files.jsx" lines 188-190.
In addition to that, the script below needs to be added below line 818 and line 863.
(This line numbers are those before any alterations to the "Layer Comps to Files.jsx" script)

This sets the "Save for Web" "Slices" settings to "All User Slices". -
when I open a raw file (NEF Nikon 7100) and apply setting then click save, I get an error ( could not complete your request because of a program error ). Ideas?
Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos. -
Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I have operating with CS4. Photoshop produces and error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
Assuming you mean 5D Mark III, Photoshop CS4 cannot directly open raw files from your camera.
Generally speaking, Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras when they released a new major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS4 is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
You can double check this yourself:
First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.

a) Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift during startup,
or (if a) does not work)
b) Move the folder
a) is easy but irreversible, b) is more thorough and reversible, so if you like your settings and do not want to destroy them in vain, use b). -

LIke I said, I sure hope somebody can help me out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The only thing I could think that might be causing this is the fact that I upgraded to Maverick (Apple OSX) about 2.5 weeks ago. But this problem didn't start until about 3 days ago, so surely that's not the issue. Anyway, figured it was worth mentioning.

Jamie Richards, a fellow Photoshop addictI found the solution (took forever to consolidate all the answers) for OS X 10.9 + Maverick. Finally!
1. Change permissions (as AOTPR says) to your User/Library/Preferences file so that your admin and user (the one you are using) has read + write permissions within the Get Info pane (command+I). You may have to add them with the sign.
2. Delete Adobe save for web 12.0 Prefs & Adobe save for web 13.0 Prefs files within the User/ Library/ Preferences folder. These may be hidden for some people, so when in a finder window, hold Option(alt) and click Go from the main top menu (keep holding Option/Alt) and click Library — the full Preferences folder should open for you.
3. Change the view when in Save for web pane in PS. If you have it in Cover Flow — it won't work. Change it to another view like List or Columns view.
Presto! Works for me on Maverick.

Help: Sudden save for web error in CS6
Hi everybody
Everything was peachy until yesterday evening – now (morning after) I started my computer, and suddenly 'Save for web' doesn't work anymore. When choosing 'Save for web' in the menu, the 'Save for web' window opens just fine, but no matter which settings I choose or change, as soon as I click the save-button, I get the following error: 'Could not complete this operation. An unknown operating system error has occured.'
I have not changed any settings since yesterday, I did not update either Photoshop or the system, and I tried restarting both Photoshop and the computer several times – no effect. I deleted Photoshops prefs, again no effect. I've seen people post their system-info, if you need to see that, I put it here
I'm on a MacPro, 10.8.2, with Photoshop Extended 13.0.4 (as part of CS6 Premium), x64
I also have CS4, CS5 and CS 5.5 on this machine, and just tested Photoshop 5.1 (12.1), and here 'Save for web' works just fine.
I can see from other posts in the forum that I'm not the only one with this problem, but I could not find an answer or solution to this.
Please help – I have a lot of work to do (involving 'Save for web'), and I can do that in an older version of Photoshop, but I shouldn't have to fall back on that, after having payed for and installed CS6.

Hans *troubled*Delete the Save for Web prefs. On Windows this is in
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Save For Web AI\16.0
On Mac it's in
User:Hans:Preferences:Adobe
and so on.

When I try saving an Illustrator file using Save For Web in CS6, if the file isn't split up into slices I get an error "Could not complete this operation. There are no user slices." If I open the file in CS5, it exports perfectly fine (and with the XHTML page creation that used to be part of Save For Web that I'm pissed has been stripped out...)
Can anybody explain why this is happening? I never had to create slices to make images export w/ Save For Web in the past.I had this problem too. I think I've fixed it.
Try:
Open Illustrator and start a new document.
Create a new slice (Shift+K) anywhere on the document.
File > Save for Web...
In the bottom right corner there is an option for “Export”. Change this to “All Slices”.
Save that out so that Illustrator retains that option as default.

Activation Error: Could not complete the iTunes... (help!)
Activation Error: "Could not complete the iTunes Store request. The store may be busy. Check your Internet connection or try again later"
Ok that is the error I get every time I set my new iPhone in the dock.
Details:
I bought the 8GB iPhone at the Kenwood Mall in Cincinnati OH, brought it home installed version 7.3 of iTunes, plugged in the dock and the iPhone, I went through the activation process and after agreeing to all the terms and licenses, the iPhone said "activated," but iTunes was still trying to connect to AT&T for something and eventually timed out. I remove the iPhone and it seems to sync and all features seem to work fine including making and receiving calls. BUT... everytime I place the iPhone in the dock, I get the above error. I click OK and every works fine. This happens everytime I place the iPhone in dock. How do I get rid of it??? Is there still something else that needs to be done on my account. BTW, my Internet is working fine, as I am typing this message via my Internet connection in IE on apple's site.

Dell XPS Gen-2 Windows XP Pro 1GB Mem, SP2I bought the 8GB model, only had a 45 minute wait in line at ATT store. Performed activation via iTunes over 10 hours ago with porting of old T-mobile number. Still receiving message that activation is not completed. Called ATT and after 3 transfers, 35 minute hold times and then a recorded message that "due to extremely high call volumes" we will not be able to answer your call" it then proceeds to disconnect you. Finally kept trying and talked with ATT rep. in portability and they confirmed my porting has been approved but that my account still shows iPhone not registered. They then provided 877-800-3701 for problems with iPhone activation. After speaking with this representative, he would not work with me until I provided Web Order #. I told him that I purchased the phone in person at store, so he said that I would need to contact the store to obtain this number and without this number they could not verify that I had the phone and therefore it couldn't be activated. I called the store and left message. A store rep. called me back and told me that I would need to contact that same 877 number as they could not support me. ***!! To make matters worse, my old phone is now been ported and deactivated so I am phone-less and have a iPhone sitting in the dock that is completely useless. I am very disgusted at this point and don't know what to do. I was not expecting such an awful customer experience with an Apple product. Anyone have any thoughts? I drove by the AT&T store and there is a huge line of buyers, so I am not sure what to do at this point.

I could not find an answer to my problem so I'm posting this messages for help. I have Squirrelmail working to the extent that I can login to webmail, set preferences, recieve messages and send messages. However, after a message is sent or I try deleting a message I run into errors of they type below:

Query: COPY 10 "Deleted Messages"
Reason Given: Permission denied

I recieve the message at the destination address - no problem there. Anyone experienceed and fixed similar issues? BTW, this is a server install and am doing the test with one user so far.
Thanks in advance!Problem fixed! Thanks to all who viewed this question. I went to the Squirrelmail discussion list at SourceForge.net and got a clue to my problem. Turned out had nothing to do with Squirrelmail. It was my Cyrus configuration file.
Poking around I had earlier changed the admin username from cyrusimap to soemthing else. That was the mistake. I looked at the default config file and changed it back, restated the mail service and have no problems deleting mail or having messages saved in the sent folder.
Turns out Squirrelmail is a web-based imap mail client. So be careful. Don't arbitrarly change ports or admin users in config files.

Type layer error: Could not complete your request because of a program error.
I am trying to rebuild text in a photo. I clicked the type tool, clicked on the background layer (knowing a new one should form) and got this error:
Could not complete your request because of a program error.
Then I made a new blank layer, clicked on it and got the same error.
I quit, relaunched started typing the new layer without a hitch. But when I selected to change the font (to any font), I got the same error
I switched to Firefox to search for the problem and went back to PSCS5. Now I can change the font! After switching applications and clicking on the type layer, I get the error again! Then it's fixed. Then it comes back.
Anyone have this problem or a solution?
I'm using Mac OS 10.5.8 with PSCS5 12.0.1Most likely you have a corrupt font which is causing problems for some of the type/font code.
Try validating your fonts with FontBook as a first step.
