Save iDVD project and burn elsewhere?

I am creating a DVD for a friend but my MacBook doesn't have a Super Drive and so I wanted to know if I could create the project and save it as a .ISO or something and burn on my Windows XP machine.
I am considering buying an external DVD burner but to be honest I don't do it that often and could do without the expense.

It's going to be a bit tricky to do it exactly the way you want because dual layer disc images are not reliable (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6733.html). Can you export your project from iMovie as a full-size Quicktime file and transfer it to the MacBook? You may also be able to link the two Macs and burn from the MacBook that way.

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto. The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT, the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet.After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not. The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not. I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536. Please enlightenme. Once again, thank you so much,I really appreciate the time you offered.

IDVD project not burning!

I've done my project and it goes through the whole process of preparing, mulitplexing etc and says it has finished but doesn't actually burn anything on to the disc! Any suggestions??

i would start all over, delete that iDVD project and then "Share" your iMovie project to Media Browser, at the highest resolution your movie will allow, that is slow. Then open iDVD, find that movie in media browser and pull it into the iDVD screen and try burning again. these things are finnicky and one little error and they dont work.

I recommend that you use SHARE/TO MEDIA BROWSER in Large size. Then in iDVD, you open the Media Browser and navigate to your project. You can drag it into your iDVD project from there.
You can also use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and save to the location of your choice. You can then drag and drop into iDVD.

Burned iDVD project and the slideshow is messed up.

I made a project and played it on my computer to preview before it was burned and it was fine so I burned it. But when I put it in my DVD player and my Vaio, the slideshow portion of the DVD is messed up. Plus when I put it in my Mac it doesnt even play. There is a green screen where the transition WOULD have been, then one of the pictures comes up, green screen, then another picture, etc. So instead of my transition I have a green screen.
Also, this is the 2nd DVD I've burned. I changed the transition in the 1st one to see if that would solve the problem but my 2nd one is messed up too. On the first DVD I get weird iDVD images (icons, theme stuff, etc) that pop up randomly on the picture as the transition starts.
What's up with this?

Before going any further, give this basic remedy a try. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
Do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
As far as the disk image, I made one but my computer wont even play it.
Did you use your computer's DVD player? If you cannot find the player, use Spotlight to locate it. Look for "DVD player".
To view a disk image, first double-click on the icon for your project. Then open your DVD player by double-clicking on the icon in the applications folder. Another way to view the disc image is to open DVD Player in your Applications folder, then use its Open command to select your disc image.
Besides, I burned the disk image to a DVD and its just a file, not a playable DVD.
If the disk image does not play properly on your computer's DVD player, then the burned disk also will not work.
Did you use Disk Utility to burn the disk? A DVD that is burned via the Finder will not work on a standard DVD player.
For troubleshooting purposes, try to create a project using another account. Create the disk image, and see if you can get it to play. If things work correctly, then the problem lies within your account. If it persists, you might have to do a reinstall of iDVD.

How do I paste .mov video in to iDVD 3 and burn?

I have a nearly 2 GB video .mov file I want to burn to a DVD so I can play it in my television DVD player, but when I paste the file into iDVD 3 and put the disk in to burn it does not work. What am I doing wrong?

• Time = Movie duration + Menu time (can take 15 min or even more. I have movies on 500Mb that do not fit and on 50Gb that fit's nicely)
iDVD - cares about Video codec
.mov is no video codec - it is a container as -avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc and can hold codecs that works nicely and most often not.
• Open Your movie in QuickTime-player. OK - then here open Inspector (cmd-I) and read Video format/codec: nnnnnnnnn
What does it say ?
iDVD 3 - is so old that I no longer have any Mac that runs it - so I'm limited to test out where the problem lies.

I'm finished with project and burned to DVD.... Can I delete?

What is everyone's opinion on what to do with the their projects once they are completely finished burning all of their projects to DVD? I really like keeping my HD nice and neat and don't want a bunch of video taking up space. I have burned the DVD to watch and made a backup DVD of the important video's. I will keep the backup DVD in a safe place. Do you think I would be ok to delete all of my projects and clips that I have created?

I keep everything. This has let me do some really interesting things. I have videos going back to when my children were small. This January, I made a movie showing scenes from my daughter's 18th, 17th, 16th, 12th, 8th, 6th, 5,4,3,2,1, birthdays and the day she was born. This was simple in iMovie because the footage was all there and you can combine clips from multiple events in a single project.
This also gives you flexibility for the future. If BluRay or something beyond BluRay becomes popular, you can easily share you movies to the new format.
You can get an external 1 Terabyte drive ( or pick a size you like). It needs to be formatted as MAC OS Extended (journaled). (If it comes at FAT32, you can reformat it using DISK UTILITY)
I use Firewire 800, but if you have a recent MacBook, you may not have Firewire so USB will work fine.
Open iMovie and click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. You will see an icon for your disk in the Events list. Hold down the command key while dragging the event to the icon for the disk in the event list.
Projects work similarly. Command-drag the project to the external drive in the project list.

Simple Instructions for pasting video into IDVD 3 and burning DVD?

Many times I have tried to paste a video file into iDVD 3 and then tried to burn but it does not work, you click the burn icon in iDVD and it does not ask for a disk. I have a 700MB video file, it is in .avi originally but I can convert it to a different file type if needed, what file types burn in iDVD? And how do you paste the video file into iDVD 3 properly so it will burn? Because I must of been doing something wrong. I have -R disks.

.avi - is most probably the problem as it is no video format - but a container
Containers:
.avi, .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc - are no video format/codecs but containers
Formats/Codecs:
MPEG-4, H.264, AIC, streamingDV and many more are Codecs - this can or can not be opened by iMovie, iDVD or FinalCut so this info is important.
So convert the codec inside it to streamingDV .dv or to AIC and You can import it into iDVD from File Menu down to Import.
To find out what's in the .avi container
- Open it with QuickTime-player and here
- open Inspector (cmd+I) and
- read Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnn

Interlacing problems with iDVD Preview and burning - comb effect appalling.

When using iDVD to burn content onto DVDs, I suffer from "comb effect" interlacing related problems both in the iDVD Preview and with the final product played on a computer. I have yet to play the disc in a "real" DVD player.
I am editing HDV (60i) footage with FCE 4, exporting (both interlaced and de-interlaced - same problem) to 1920x1080 HD at a Quicktime movie, and then importing the clips to iDVD.
The clips are short (under 10 minutes) and play back perfectly on Quicktime.
Once imported to iDVD, the iDVD Preview displays (especially with motion scenes) four areas of horizontal jagged edge areas, which are spectacularly distracting.

I have tried various settings using iDVD, but have not been met with success. In other, similar discussions, people have had luck with other software programs, but I am reluctant to spend great gobs of money if the Apple Discussion Brain Trust can find a way to circumvent.

I am new to magic iDVD. I am using it for my home movies. I have 25 short movies saved to a project and burned. When I put it in the DVD player it makes me select a frame each time. Is there a way to just have them play back to back automatically?

You can either share it directly to iDVD by choosing Share > iDVD or you can export it using your favorite preferred settings by choosing Export to Quicktime. With the former method, iDVD will open automatically, with the latter method, open iDVD and drag in your movie. With both: choose a theme for your menu (what people will see when the DVD first starts playing) - you should play around a little to learn how to use iDVD. In any case, when done, you can burn directly from iDVD.

Idvd project and DVD SP

hi all
bit of a flat panic now, i was going to use IDVD to burn my project off to give to a customer but the videos have been exported in 16:9 from FCP but will only play in QT in 4:3 same for Idvd
so i tried to open the project in DVDSP but it wont open
i have IDVD 7. something
DVDSP 2
FCS 2
any ideas or hep taken ASAP as this has to go to REPODUCTION first thing in the morn

Ok, if your videos are 16:9 then bring them into iDVD and make sure you have iDVD set up for 16:9. If you bring your video into QuickTime Player it will appear to be 4:3. Don't bring your video into QuickTime Player.
Burn a disc and pop it into a DVD player and you will see that everything is 16:9.

Finalizing a Project and burning a DVD of it in iMovie 10.0.1

I'm using iMovie 10.0.1 and want to burn my project to a DVD. The share icon does not let me do this and I'm not sure if I need to finalize a project as I did in the prior version. What do I need to do?
