Save InD CS3 Print Presets

I am running CS3 Premium under Win XPro. I have just received my upgrade to CS4. Do I need to do anything special to save my print presets in InDesign CS3 for use with CS4 before I install?

Homeboy,
You specifically asked if you needed anything special to do this. (I read do but my mind processed if you needed anything) I informed you first that you did not. Next, I described the process with the tools you already had. (InDesign)
To top it off, Peter comes and steals my thunder. I'm reporting Peter's post as abuse.
BTW, all of this typed with a .
I'm glad Peter's post navigated you through my befuddled mind.
Buko… so… we meet again.

  • Distribution of InDesign CS3 Print Presets

Is there a way to "mass" distribute InDesign Print Presets for InDesign CS3?
Have a large list of Print Presets saved on a server. Would like to "push" them out to over 20 production Macs with CS3, using something like Apple Remote Desktop. Each Print Preset that exists on the server are also on one specific Mac. Each has a unique name. But can NOT find these names when doing a search on the Mac. Where are they actually being stored?

The CS3 print presets are stored in the ID Preferences (~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/ Version 5.0/InDesign Defaults).
Here is a link to an InDesign Secrets article which talks about how to export the presets to a .prst file:
This article covers CS and CS2, but I'm guessing it's the same for CS3.

  • InDesign CS3 Print Presets

Have a print preset that creates a PDF w/thumbnails, used successfully in CS2, which put the PDF file on the desktop. Loaded all our print presets into CS3, looks like file was created, but cannot for the life of me figure out where the file went! Looked everywhere in Finder ... any ideas?
(Would love to export to PDF w/thumbnails, but I don't see a way to do that?)

No, that setting only puts the thumbnails in the side bar.
I'd love to see your script that included them as an extra page. Can you share? Oh, wait, I think I misunderstood, You mean you want to print what amounts to a contact sheet of PDF pages.
Your script may have some code that is CS2 specific (thought I'd expect it throw an error) which could be corrected by one of the folks who write scripts.
Another possibility is doing it out of bridge, but I don't know what that would take, either.

  • How to save CS3 print presets?

    Greetings,
Here is my issue: When I go to the print dialog and choose save preset, I make the changes ( I want a tabloid preset that selects tray 4 from our Splash server/Docucolor 12 setup) but when I select the "Printer" button and choose "Paper Feed" and switch it from Auto select to Tray 4, it won't retain my Tray 4 setting. It remembers everything else. This causes the print job to go to the error queue with the error "no 11x17 paper trays installed" - when there are and paper is in there.
I want to be able to share this preset with the other designers in the office.
Mac OS 10.4.11/Adobe CS3 Design Standard
    Any thoughts?

Are the optional trays listed in the printer setup for your printer? Maybe they need to be activated.

  • Print presets from CS3 to CS4

Is it possible to install the CS3 print presets on CS4 so I don't have to recreate them?   Anyone know where they would be?  I'm on Windows Vista.  I don't see them in the Presets folder (hm).
    Thanks, Phyllis

You have to go into CS3 and open the preset "define" dialog. Select the ones you want, then save to an external file. In the same dialog in CS4 pick "load" and find your saved file.

  • Can CS4 import printing presets from CS3?

I found the preset folder in the CS3 folder but nothing in there were caller printer presets.  I see presets for workspace, swatches, and many other things but not printing.  We just upgraded here and I have about 20-30 presets that I REALLY do not want to have to recreate from scratch again!

    Yes
    You open up CS3
    File>Print Presets
    Select the Preset and SAVE
    Open up CS4
    File>Print Presets
    Select Load
    Find Saved file
    Done

  • Aperture 3.0.2 will not save Print Presets

I am extremely frustrated right now as I burn through very expensive paper. Aperture 3.0.2 will not save any of my Print Presets. I have two Epson Printers a Epson Photo 900 and and Epson R2400. I want to print to the Epson R2400 and when I do, the photo comes out all screwed up it keeps putting in Adobe PDF 9 as the printer. I had my printer completely dialed in and could print orders with no problem in Aperture 2.0 lost all those settings upgrading to 3.0. Attempted to duplicate them, but it will not save my Printer or Paper Size. I have an order to fill and it's looking like it's going to cost me money because of all the paper I am wasting trying to get this to print. Tried numerous posted tricks and nothing is working.

I discovered the image quality was a more basic duh thing. Had to clean my print heads. However, the Presets will STILL not save my printer or paper size.

  • File spooling but not printing - InD CS3

I am at a loss as to why InD CS3 (and Acrobat and Reader) will not print to a shared printer. Illustrator CS3 and Photoshop CS3 will print to this shared printer. Why not InD CS3? This has been ongoing since CS3 came out.
The file spools, all images and fonts are downloaded but the file never appears in the print queue. Not on the originating machine or the sharing machine. It just vanishes.
CS3 Pro versions Loaded on Mac G5 dual 2gig (non-intel) running Tiger. Three other machines have the same issue. All various machine configs (G4 single/Tiger, G5 dual 1.8/Tiger, and an Intel iMac/Leopard).
    - Printer is shared through a networked G3 running Jaguar (yeah, yeah, working on it).
    - The printer is an Epson SP1400
    - All drivers updated on all machines.
    - All CS3 patches done.
    - Permissions done.
    - OnyX system maintenance done.
    - Preferences trashed. Machines restarted (printer and macs).
    - The InD CS3 file can be printed from CS3 to a networked Panasonic postscript printer. So it's not the file.
    - The InD file can be saved down using Interchange to CS2 and that will print to the shared printer.
    - The InD CS3 file will print to this printer if the printer is connected directly to the machine it is printing from.
Apple and Epson have pointed out that because other CS3 apps do print to the printer, there is something going on with InD, Acrobat and Reader and the sharing function. Is it the G3 and Jag? Or something to do with CUPS or .local or a sharing protocol? Please help me out with this.

Anything interesting in the logs on the printing machine or the sharing machine?
In the Print button in the Adobe Print dialog, click the popup to Error Handling and tell it to cough up an error page if it fails to print. Maybe the printer will give you feedback about why it's failing then.
If that does nothing, then what if you print the file to postscript and drop the PS file onto the printer icon in the Dock? That would at least guarantee you were getting a file and let you experiment with why it isn't making it all the way through the process.
A final thought is to raster it completely [make a Transparency Flattener set to 100% raster @ whatever DPI] and see if just a bitmap will print correctly. That tells you if it's something weird with the postscript at least.
It's all guesses, really. But at least it might give you something new to play with... Best of luck!

  • Print Presets Do Not Save

So at some point in recent history — all my print presets are completely useless in all applications. Everytime I print a document — it defualts back to paper size = Other no matter what printer I select.
Making matters worse, is that when I create a print preset it ignores every detail that you would actually save a preset for and retains only the printer name. Scale, paper size, etc are all ignored.
So everytime I print a file I have to select every detail over and over and it is really **** frustrating and shocking that something so basic would be so broken on a Apple release.

First off, let's not rush to blame Lion.  My first thoughts on this is that it's a permissions issue.  Have you tried locating the printing preset prefs file(s) and deleting them?  Doing so and setting the presets again, should create a new file with the proper permissions.  You will find the preset prefs files in /Users/UserName/Library/Preferences.  The file is called something like "com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter".  You will have a .plist file and a plist.lockfile.  Delete them both.  Also, you will find a separate file for each printer.
Another thing to try is to upgrade your printer drivers to their latest versions.  That fixed a lot of printing issues for some of my clients who had similar issues.
It never hurts to do a repair of your home folde'rs ACLs.  Here's a great article on how to do that:

  • Conversion problem from PM7 Win to InD CS3

My client sent 400 CAD images to a design company in India to have them converted into PM7 sheets to for printed here in the US!!!!
I just received the PM files-I do have a copy of PM 7 on an XP Win PC.
The printer also happens to have PM7 but is having difficulty converting the files to .PDF for printing.  My solution, I think, is to open the .PMD (PM7) on my Mac using InD CS3, making page order changes, and converting to .PDF for printing.  Seems there is distortion when I open in CS3.  I understand there is a FREE Plug-in for Pagemaker 7 that is available.  I have never configured a Plug in-only used native ones.  Can anyone advise or does anyone have another fix?
    Many thanks
    Gail B

OH YEAH!  IDIOTIC from my point of view.
They brought the files into PM& (because this is what they have and
this company does not want to spend $ on upgrading-which if fine if
they were only working in house-a manufacturer) that's why they sent
it India-thought they could save $  NOT!  I could have done it right
in the first place.)  They needed borders and text and logos etc place
on the final pages.  The India firm mis-placed certain pages-this is a
double side print and they neglected to take into consideration that T
of C and others are single sided print- and so on.   So do you think I
have to stay in PM7 .  I thought the reason the distortion was
happening was because they DID NOT embed the CAD images.
Thanks for any help on this lovely Sunday morning in NJ

  • How to create a Print Preset

I am migrating from a Windows environment to a mac. I have also updated my software from PS CS3 to Elements 12. In the Windows environment when printing my note cards all I had to do was click on print, which brought up a dialog box. I then clicked on page setup which brought me to an area where I selected a preset which had all of the settings needed to print my note cards. How do I duplicate this in Elements 12 and the mac environment?
    Thx

In the OS X window that opens after you click Print in the PSE print window, click the Show Details button to expand the window and make your choices for paper, ink, etc, then click the Presets menu at the top of the window and choose Save Current Settings as Preset:

  • Importing print presets doesn't bring all settings

This isn't the first time. I saved my print presets to desktop out of CS4.  I load into CS5. All that imports is the NAME. The tray is default, any other settings like duplex, make booklet, staple, etc. all default. OK. Maybe CS6 fixes this. I export my print presets to desktop, load them into CS6 and all that comes in is my menu of preset names. Is there anyway to import presets so they actually retain all the settings I spent a lot of time creating. A bit tedious to have to redo every one from scratch. I exported my entire library of exports. Should I be exporting/loading one at a time? That's as much a waste as creating them from scratch.

In ID when you click Printer... (not Page Setup...) you should get a printer specific dialog with a Presets popup. There isn't a way to save both the InDesign settings and your printer specific settings in one preset:
If you click on the Presets popup you should see a Save at the bottom of the popup list
This preset for printing to my GCC's manual feed is also available in Mail and other apps

  • Color Settings\Colorsync settings don't stick when setting printing presets

    Hello
Posting this here, instead of in the iPhoto Forum
In the "Print" dialog box (the dialog box you see after you pass through the iPhoto dialog box - same type of box as with most other OS X applications), there is a down menu to give you access to several categories of settings related to the print job.
Here of course you can save printing presets (paper type, print quality, color management, etc).
Why do ColorSync settings under the "Color Matching" dropdown not get saved with the other presets? Every time, the profile setting defaults to "Automatic". Is this a bug or is there something I am not doing correctly? Is there a good reason why they aren't saved along with other settings? Apple on-screen Help says "some settings cannot be saved in a profile, but this would seem to be a very handy thing?
I use an Epson Artisan 800.
Alternatively, can someone tell me what the behavior is of the "Automatic" setting?
I recently profiled the printer and I am just looking for an easy/quick way at the time of printing to apply one of the three profiles based on the type of paper that is being used. I just figured this would be the easiest way to do it? (my question applies to any application - I posted here because this is of particular importance with iPhoto)
BTW Is it me or is there surprisingly little information online about ColorSync workflows/behavior/relationships in OS X?
Many thanks for any and all advice.
    Justin

    Hi Scott,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
First of all please update the RDC version to RDP 8.1 for better functionality. Then try to install below updates for windows 7 and check the result.

  • Where are the Printing Presets in Acrobat located on Mac?

I have just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 from Snow Leopard 10.6.8. All of my applications seem to be working fine, however my printing presets in Acrobat Pro X 10.1.13 are missing. Can I restore them from a Time Machine backup and if so where would they located? There seem to be a number of Library files related to Acrobat, but I'm not sure which ones contain the printing presets. I'm printing to an Epson Stylus Pro 3880. I don't want to have to re-create all the printing presets for that machine if I don't have to. I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on how to restore my much needed presets.

    Kelvin:
Did you save the presets and give them a unique name so they could be selected at a later time?
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
