Save key commands

Hi!
I want to save my key commands is there anyone who knows how to do that?
/Erik

They're saved automatically in your Logic preferences file.
If you're wanting to make a back-up of your key commands, simply copy the Logic preferences file to a safe place.
user(~)/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro
This is something everyone should do anyhow.

  • How do you save key commands/trash logic prefs??

    hey,
how do you trash your logic prefs and save your key commands in os x. Please for give the simplicity of my question but getting under the hood in os 9 made a lot more sense to me than doing it in os x.
    thanks!
    ej

    find in your user area:
    ~/Library/Preferences/
    com.apple.logic.pro
drag this file to the desktop (do not copy)
Boot Logic (prefs are not initialized)
    open key commands window
    select import key commands
make your way to the desktop and choose the file you just moved
you can then do what you want with the old prefs file-but don't move it to the prefs folder)
    Cheers

  • Save key commands set without quitting program

When I change I couple of key commands do I have to quit Logic and restart to have the changes saved or is there a smarter solution? (I remember a command "Save preferences" on Atari:-)

Aha! They finally have fixed this problem. I'm relieved to hear that. Thanx.

  • Saving Key Commands . . .

Okay. I did a search and read the posts on here (there are, of course, several relating to the issue of Key Commands) . . . but - sorry - I'm still not getting it. The com.apple.logic.pro.plist file . . . what about it? The posts say that it's THAT file that has the key commands in it . . . but I don't know what to DO with that file once I find it.
As per one post, I moved it from the preferences folder to the desktop, then I opened Logic, and then opened my KC window (in Logic) and clicked on the "import key commands" button, and went to select the file I just moved to the desktop, but it didn't let me import it. Unfortunately, I initialized all my KC's before doing this, thinking that it would work . . . and it didn't . . . So I lost all my personal KC's . . .
So how is it exactly that KC's are saved?
One of the commads in the KC window in Logic says "save Key Commands". When I click that, it says something like "now your key commands can be saved as text on your desktop", but it doesn't tell you HOW to do that, or how to find it, access it . . . etc . . .
Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm simply just not getting it.
Is there a KC file OUTSIDE of Logic where I can see my KC's?
    Ugh . . .
Thank you for all your help, everyone, in advance,
    Javier Calderon

Hallo. It is possible to import another KEy Commands "file". I am not in studio right now but I try to describe best I can:
There is the "plist" file in Preferences folder but this file is not what you are looking for. In the same directory (I guess it is user/Library/Preferences ) there is a FOLDER called com.applle.LogicPro or similar. Inside THIS folder there are more files and maybe another folder probably. One of the files IS actually the file with your Logic preferences, where the keycommands are "stored". This file should have some kind of Logic icon, the file you mentioned -if I remember things right - has only a blank white clipping icon or so... when I was importing keycommands after reinstalling the system, in Keycommands window in Logic I choosed "Import" from the menu in toreehat window (it is under "Initialize" and so...) and in the popup window I found my old Logic prefs file which I stored on different HD as a backup before reinstalling the system.... After I choosed this file another popup window opened and it said something like "..Your current "preferences" file is now stored as "preferences.bak" " . Which means that as soon as you import keycommands from somewhere else, your current keycommands should be stored as a backup if you want to recall them back. I am sorry I do not remember the proper name of the "preferences" file, but again you can find it inside the folder called probably com.apple.LogicPro inside user/Library/Preferences.

  • How can i save my key commands???

    Please help!
There is Import Key Command... only in option menu(no Save)
So how can i save my KC and what type of file is?

    HD>(users)>Library>Preferences>Logic>>> com.apple.logic.pro
that's the file where your Key commands are saved .
if you can not find it this way, just type>>>
    com.apple.logic.pro in Spotlight.

  • Key Command for Option Clicking a Marker

Option Clicking a Marker does just what I want. It sets the playhead to the beginning of that marker without selecting the marker. Now if I could make the Keypad behave the same way, I could save myself a lot of damage to my Marker tracks. Right now a keypad # selects the marker, moves the playhead to it and sets the locators around it. preferences to make this more granular would be welcome.
The option keypad numbers seem to be unused in the default key commands. Perhaps the option key could be set to trigger the same behaviour as option clicking a marker. it makes it intuitive (meaning I tried it.)

The only way I can think of is to use a Macro app like QuicKeys assigning a KeyStrokes to a sequence of two key commands:
    For example:
ctr+opt+cmd+1 triggers 1 (go to Marker 1) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
ctr+opt+cmd+2 triggers 2 (go to Marker 2) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
ctr+opt+cmd+3 triggers 3 (go to Marker 3) followed by sh+opt+D (Deselect All)
You can assign the QuickKeys commands (ctr+opt+cmd+1, etc) to the keypads and they will move the Playhead to that Marker and selects the Marker. However, QuicKeys sends the second KeyCommand right away and deselects the Marker.
No deleting of selected Marker by accident anymore.
The KeyCommands in Logic are already very powerful, but when combined with QuicKeys (or any other Macro app) that lets you fire up a sequence of KeyCommands or mouse click on specific areas on the Logic interface per key commands, then it gets really powerful. Combine that with multi-touch gestures on your TrackPad using the amazing BetterTouchTool app, an you can take your customized workflow to a whole new level.
    Hope that helps

  • Key commands are not stored in a separate file

On page 44 in the Logic Reference it says that key commands are stored in a separate preference file.
But that's not right is it? I believe the key commands are stored in the general preferences file for logic.

I believe it's actually a mistake in the manual and in
the way Logic is supposed to work.
I don't, as Logic has stored the key commands within the Logic preferences files since version 1.
What's probably happening is that when you use the setup assistant, the various template key commands (Pro Tools one and so on) are stored in various files. The setup assistant puts the necessary startup template keycommands file into the prefs directory, which when Logic loads, it sees them, parses them and inserts them into the preferences, which then behave like normal.
It saves the setup assistant from accessing Logic's preference files directly.

  • Can't assign personal key commands

    Hello,
I recently had to reinstall Logic Pro 9 and neglected to backup/save my personal key commands.
In reentering these commands I'm having a problem with one specific personal key command for Solo Off For All that Logic won't accept. I have gone into the Logic Preference>Key Commands, scrolled down to Solo Off For All clicked on the Learn By Key Label and entered my command which is the TAB key followed by the letter 's'. The 's' gets entered but nothing else. Before doing the delete and reinstall of Logic Pro this command had been working fine for me.
    Thanks and Best to All
    Lautarese

    Hi Bill,
What you say makes sense. However I'm mystified as to why it worked for me before reinstalling Logic Pro from the Apps Store.
I picked the TAB key because all the other modifiers seem to be used for default Key Commands that I'd rather not replace.
    Thanks Mate.
    Best,
    Jason

You may not like what I'm about to tell you, but it is the absolute truth:
I just went to Photoshop 13 ("CS6") on my machine running under Snow Leopard, and pressed Command+M, which immediately brought up the Curves adjustment dialog box.

  • Key command for "undo" not customizable anymore?

    Hi!
In the LP8 manual the key cmd. for "undo" is claimed to be exchangeable by the user, but it is not (dimmed).
I used to set it to <cmd.-y) - similar to protools, because <cmd.-z> is a rel cripple grip.
it still works with importing my old LP7 prefs, but is reset to <cmd.-z> each time I launch LP8 again.
    Help!
    cheers!

Apple probably made this move because it's universal among all of Apple's apps (and generally accepted throughout most applications for the Mac).
hm - final cut's key commands are fully custumizable, too (at least until FCP5) wich is an apple app even more than logic.
an other reason might be this: when setting for example <y> for undo in LP7, you can't use the y in the save-as.. dialog box for naming anymore, because the y will be interpreted as undo. that's why I chose <cmd.-y>.
and why restricting only the system shortcuts if there was the "danger" of getting too familiar with those, what about "stop", "play", "rew", "mute", "solo", "divide", etc.? those commands exist in other apple apps as well.
I must admit, that I am just too clumsy for typing <cmd.-z> on a german keyboard more than twice a month. but my editing temper requires a lot more.
where to get detailed instructions for changing the system shortcuts in general?
    cheers!

  • 9.1 Key Commands bug?

    EDIT:
Nevermind, I guess. Now it's working. OF COURSE immediately after I type this message it starts working properly.
I'm really not going crazy, am I?
So I've been working with 9.0.X flawlessly for some time now... just updated to 9.1 and none of my "cmd" key commands work unless I CLICK on the menu and then hit cmd+key
    Example:
cmd2 should bring up the mixer window, cmd6 the piano roll, cmdS saves, cmdQ quits, etc... but... none of them work??
Any thoughts? Tried resetting my key commands with a no-go. Manually updated my key commands with a no-go.
ANY shortcut using the CMD key modifier simply does not work in 9.1 for me.
Relaunched the older version - works fine - launched 9.1 - not working.
I'm not big on "clicking" things in menus since I love just mashing the appropriate buttons.
    Anyone else?

I too have been having issues. At random times key commands like "save" "undo", etc... suddenly do nothing. I can see something happening up on the menu bar when I hit these commands, but nothing actually happens. I can still manually mouse over to save and have it work, but the key commands do not without restarting.

  • Strange Key Commands Issue - Please Help

I understand how to make/delete and export key commands.
I made a key command preference that I like that doesn't involve the screen set key commands ... herein lies the issue.
I delete the commands (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) that are assigned to screen sets because I want to use them for other things. I save the preset. If I keep logic open everything is hunky dory, but if I close logic and re-open it the screen set key commands are suddenly part of my preset again.
    I'm running Logic 8 btw.
I thought Logic might automatically be initializing it's key commands from their provided key commands list, but after removing them I found that was not the case.
I also tried deleting my com.apple.logic.pro.plist file but still the screen set key commands keep showing up.
Does anyone know a way to keep Logic from adding them back into the key commands everytime I start it up?

    WAIT!!!
I found a way around it:
instead of using "learn by key label" I used "learn by key position" and then the numbers on the number pad can be whatever I want!
    YESSSSSS.
    thanks again for your help!
LOL, OK, you never mentioned the keypad... I just assumed you were after the top row number keys... but those on the numpad are indeed available (or set in limestone). Good persistance! And thanks for reporting your solution.

  • Is there a key command for ejecting a dvd or cd from a firewire dvd drive?

I have looked in the chats with no luck. I have two optical drives connected to my G5 powermac one internal and one firewire, and can't remember
the key command to eject a disc from the external one without dragging it to the trash. I know I used to do that it. option / eject button/ or control/ eject but that does not work. I know you can click on the disc icon then do command/e. But I think there is a way to eject it with a key command and not have to click on the disc first. In other words when you hit the keyboards eject button you can eject the disc in the internal super drive with one push of the keyboards eject button. I want to be able to do that with my external dvd drive.
    Any clue?
    Thanks.

hmm, it might not be possible without some third party hack.
    Try the following link:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050520155515566
You'll need to paste the provided script into Script Editor, save it as an application and bind a keyboard shortcut to it using one of many many application launchers like Quciksilver, Butler, Quickeys, ikeys or Spark (suggested by the above link).
    sorry that script is outdated.
    here is the correct one:
    property drawerstatus : true
    if drawerstatus is true then
do shell script "drutil -drive external tray eject"
    else
do shell script "drutil -drive external tray close"
    end if
    set drawerstatus to not drawerstatus

  • Logic crashes when using the "Close Project without Saving" key command

The "Close Project without Saving" key command does not work in LP8. When I try to use it, Logic crashes. This is reproducible on my system. Can anyone try and confirm this?

For me this shortcut is quite important on stage when I have to switch songs as fast as possible. It also is foolproof because on stage I never want to save with all the controller changes I did during a performance.
Just hit the key command, load the next song, done.

  • Lost my Save As command

Since upgrading my OS to Mountain Lion I have lost the 'Save As' command in both pages and numbers.  I can rename a file, but then the original file is written over not saved.  Any ideas?  Many thanks.

With Mountain Lion, the old Save As... functionality can be almost fully restored in System Preferences.
I have set Cmd-Shift-S as a keyboard shortcut for Save As...
    (in System Preferences->Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts).
Since doing that, it not only works using the shortcut, but the Save As... command appears in the File menu in Cocoa applications such as TextEdit, Mail, TeXShop, etc, WITHOUT having to hold the option key down.
Also, you can disable auto-save in System Preferences->General by marking the box titled
"Ask to keep changes when closing documents".
This, together with the other box, "Close windows when quitting an application", which restores the pre-Lion behavior on quitting and restarting applications (i.e. not reopening any windows that were open on the last quit), almost allows for the total restoration of the traditional workflows that so many people loudly asked for.
AFAICT the only difference now is that if you Save As... a file "A" to a new file "B", not just "B" but also "A" record the last changes. There are two workarounds if you don't want that:
    - reopen file "A" and choose "Revert to: Previous Save"
    - use duplicate and revert instead of Save As...
