Save manual ordering of images in a project?

Hi there,
I have a project with images from lots of different cameras which I have edited down ready for making up an Aperture book. I have also laboriously re-ordered the images, into rough "chapter" order. The little indicator at top left correctly enough has the ordfer labelled as "manual" - my question is, can I close down Aperture and have the images appear in the same order when I open the programme again? Ideally, I'd like to pull the whole lot into the book and have them arrange themselves in the same, manual order in the book, so I can then resize, finetune etc.
Thanks for your help!
Binger

The little indicator at top left correctly enough has the ordfer labelled as "manual" - my question is, can I close down Aperture and have the images appear in the same order when I open the programme again?
This is an undocumented feature - at least I have never seen a written guarantee-, but so far Aperture has always preserved my manual ordering of images in library items, like projects, albums, slideshow,... and always shown the same sequence of images as before after quitting and reopening.
But what is your Aperture version? Your profile signature says Mac OS X (10.5.6). I have never used Aperture on this system, so I cannot make any guarantees for earlier Aperture versions. I only tested on Aperture 3.2.4 and later. And in some cases Aperture will shuffle images around when using manually arranged images for a product, like for a slideshow. The recommended workflow is to do the manual arranging in the final album, not before adding to the album, this is safer. Or to add tags to the images that you can use for sorting, like numbered version names or headlines.
But if you already have decided on the images you want to use, why not create the book with these images at once, before you quit Aperture? You do not have to finish the book in one go - my books ususally take a full month to finish
To create a book from the images in your project select them all at once in the Browser and use the command "File > New > Book". Then check, if they arrived in the correct sort order in the book album and quit.

  • Print images in contacts in Manual order?

i want to print my contact sheet in the order that i have manually organized them. i have the Project set to "Manual" but i seem to be missing a setting in the print dialog. is there a way to do this? should i create an album first or something?
i have tried to do a google search on this with terms like "manual" and "contact sheet" and "printing" and "aperture" and this is basically a black hole. also, i am not seeing anthing in the help explaining how to control the order of the prints in contact sheets.
    thanks for any help

    hi leonie.
thanks i am on 6.05 and on Lion.
this was an uber annoying issue. i had images set to "Manual" since i arranged them in order of how they needed to show up (and print out) and then i basically had to fiddle around by changing from Manual to "by Date" or whatever and then going back to Manual - and i just keep testing by going to Print until they showed up in the correct "Manual" order.
totally annoying and totally weird since there did not seem to be any rational explanation for how they were showing up out of Manual order. i mean, they did not seem to show up in By Date order or By Name order or whatever but to be honest i wasn't trying to determine this necessarily.
also, i tried to set the rows and columns in a set order by doing rows from 6 down to 3 and then columns from 6 down to 3 because it /almost/ seemed like doing this in some order would keep them organized by Manual.
anyway, i thought i was missing some setting in the Print Dialog that would tell it to print in Manual order and then i started to think that i had some sort of page order setting wrong.
finally got them printed out but i guess i will have to try and figure this out next time because it is not very efficient.
    THANKS

  • Creating a manual sort order for images in LR?

So I have been using LR for a few weeks now, and generally once I am done editing and processing, I amend the order of the images by manually dragging the images about in either library or develop mode. I find sorting them into like groups makes it easier for others to look through them. Now, suddunly, LR is letting me 'drag' amd image, but it wont 'drop' it in the desired spot.
I feel like I must have accidently pushed some strange button...but I can't figure out where?

Hey! I solved my own question!  In case anyone else is stumped, here is the answer:
There seem to be two issued LR is picky about:
    1. You need to select the image, not the surrounding grey 'slide mount' area.
    2. Near as I can figure, it wasnt letting me sort because I was in  'previous import', under catalogue. When I selected the 'date' of the image under 'folder' it worked!

  • I created project save as image but final project doesnt show up anywhere

i stayed up literally all night working on a christmas slide show project
i already saved it as an image file once
woke up and stated it was complete
    great
    went to burn it
however its not anywhere on my computer
stated if finished in 48 minutes
    ok where is it
not where i selected it to save
    this is odd
i have done this before no problem
    other than beginners bad luck
the think is i am saving it now
and my hard drive light is flashing
set it save to a folder
    however its not there
    disc space is being used
    and on my last one
    disc space was taken
    yet its not there
i did a search on my computer for it
    the title
    even did a .img search
    nothing
ok its doing all the work
    where exactly is it going?
i save it as an image
    burn thru external hard drive
    as i said before
    it stated complete
ok where was it completed to?

If you haven't done any other projects in iDVD, open it and Save As Disc Image again -- but before you click Okay, look to see where iDVD wants to store the file -- chances are that's where the others are stored.

  • Identifying images in Photostream Project as being elsewhere in the database?

my aperture database is stuck on 3.4.5 because my mac pro is stuck on lion and i cannot figure out how to SORT my library with respect to these Projects.
basically i have changed my PS settings over the last couple of years (including my import settings) and i can no longer figure out if images that are in PS project are /solely/ in these projects or if they also reside elsewhere in the database. this relates (in part) to a confusion i had about what photo stream was doing but also about what the settings were doing.
so i have a huge issue where i don't know if SOME of the images in these Projects are basically "originals" in my database (it is the only instance of them in the database) or if they represent basically copies of images that are stored in their correct place in a Project that "thematically" sorts my images.
i mean, ideally i want to get all my images sorted THEMATICALLY in a Project and not simply have SOME of them only in the PS Projects. i also don't want to have to drag out /all/ of the images, sort all of them into thematically named Projects and then have to delete the ones that came in twice. this will be a nightmare and represent possibly three weeks of work.
anyway, i am upgrading to a new laptop with a larger hard drive and i am wondering if i migrate my library onto this new computer with a newer OS (and presumably a newer version of Aperture) can i sort this out easier/easily?
right now under my current OS i do not believe there is a way to see if the images in my PhotoStream Projects are basically duplicates of other images that have already been sorted into thematically named Projects of if in fact i need to move some images out of these PS Projects in order to get them where they belong.
hopefully someone understands the predicament and if not can ask me to clarify as i am pretty much dead in the water with an unsorted database AFAIK.
    THANKS

Yes you are right concerning iPhoto retaining the full size photo, in my earlier post I was incorrect to assume that PS pushed the lower quality photo to iPhoto, it doesn't, but it does push a lower quality image to your other idevices. This quoted from the FAQ....
On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices.
Your device holds two copies of the same photo, one in PS, the other in whatever album you save your photo to, or the camera roll. My point is that PS is supposed to be a temporary folder, holding the images for 30 days, allowing you time to save the ones you want. As it is now, it's duplicating every photo, and storing them on the same device twice. Not what I want, nor what it's intended to do. If you have an iPhone, you can check this by using Camera+ or an app which shows metadata. Take a photo, import it into Camera+ then click info, look at the file size, then load the same photo from PS, again click info and look at the file size. Two different sizes, meaning two copies of the same photo, one being lower quality.
I just want it to do the task it's supposed to, which is temporarily hold my images, letting me save the ones I want, and then clearing after a month.

  • Trying to create a book and have sorted 900 photos in manual order...the book application resorts my photos and i have to search 900 photos each time. how can i set the sorting

trying to create an Aperture book and have sorted 900 photos in manual order...the book application resorts my photos and i have to search 900 photos each time to place a photo. how can i set the sorting to stay in my manual setup?

    1.  If you manually sort Images in a Project, and then create a new Book w. "Include selected Images" checked, your manual sort order will be preserved.
    2.  As a workaround for when you have already created a Book, batch rename your Images with a leading index or counter after setting the order manually.  You'll have to create a Naming Preset, e.g.: "{Index}_{Version Name}".  The renaming should go in the order that you selected the Images, so be sure to select the first one first, and then use "Edit→Select all" to extend the selection to all Images.  Once the Images are in your Book, a sort on Version Name should be the same as the manual sort you created.
    3.  At the risk of stating the obvious, you could create the Book, import the Images, and then sort them.  The Book -- it is, to Aperture, just a special kind of Album -- retains its own manual sort order.  I recommend using Albums this way.  Use Projects to cull and develop Images, and use Albums for output.  Sorting for a Book (or any output) is better done in the container devoted to that output (and not in the Project, which is more general).

  • Creation of Manual Orders in PPDS in /sapapo/rrp4

    Hi All,
We are using PPDS for production planning. In the process of generating a plan in short term horizon, after executing the scheduling heuristic, user wants flexibility of manually creating some orders.
We are using /sapapo/rrp4, where user can create manually orders in PPDS.
Last week, during some reading , came to know that , manual order creation in /sapapo/rrp4, only creates orders in Live Cache, it does not save orders in APO data base.
So, if i understand , live cache goes down, then all my order information will be lost. I long run , is it going to create a problem.
Has anyone worked in same kind of requirement.
    thanks,
    Rao

    Hi
Most of transaction data in APO is stored in live cache whether created by heuristic or manually.
Of course if live cache goes down there will be problems but it will be no better if orders are created by heuristic..

  • Reversed order of images emailed from LR5 on a Mac

This has been a problem ever since LR3 and on previous versions of the MacOS. I hoped that it would be fixed in LR5, but not yet. When I select multiple images for email in LR5 on a Mac running Mavericks, the preview shows the images in the correct order, but in the email message itself, the order is reversed so that the last image is first and the first image is last. Nothing helps. If you select the images in a different order, the result is the same backwards order. Others have noted this problem, see messages from Bud, AJ, and SC in the middle of this page of comments on Julianne Kost's blog starting in December 2012: Lightroom – How Do You Change the Order of Images, Before Renaming? « Julieanne Kost's Blog
The only workaround is to create a separate export for each image or to export a folder of images and manually add them to a single email. I can't imagine that this would be a hard bug to fix, so please, Adobe, do so!
In addition, it would be helpful if there were a space between images in the email so that the images don't all run together in one long strip. There should be a way to have this happen by setting up a style or template so that it does not have to be done manually.

    SASanderson wrote:
Do you have a suggestion for automatically adding a space between images?
I don't think you have control if using the native email feature (but I could be wrong). I'm not a Mac expert, but I suspect the solution would be something like exporting to an applescript and having that talk to apple-mail. Or running an apple-script after exporting to the emailer to add the space post-facto. Or, if you could find a special Mac email plugin which had more flexibility..
I use an Outlook macro for formatting messages with emails exported by Lightroom, but that wouldn't help you on the Mac (other than perhaps conceptually).
Sorry I can't be more help.

  • Images in multiple projects or other workflow with a similar result?

Maybe I'm doing this the wrong way, I'm new to Aperture and open to suggestions. What I have is a number of projects each of which contain some images I'd like to submit to a stock site. I thought that the best process would be to create a "Stock photo submissions" project, and copy the images into that. From there I can edit and annotate the photos, for example, noting where they are submitted.
However, when I drag a photo to the project I get a stern-sounding warning about moving the photo. It does seem to still be linked in the previous project. However one day I might clean up the stock project, and it appears that this would delete them altogether?
    Suggestions?

Images reside in 1 (and only 1) project.
You can have multiple albums, and albums can hold images from many projects.
However, if I were you, I'd use smart albums to do this instead. What I do is to create a keyword (I use _ISC for "iStock Candidate") for each picture I want to consider submitting to stock. Then I create a smart album for all images with that keyword. Voila, it's easy. No needing to worry about where they are. Any time you want to consider the image for stock, just add the keyword (you can use the keywords bar to simplify this).
I further expand this as such
_ISC - iStock Candidates (reconsider if I want to submit, then adjust and keyword)
_ISS - iStock Submitted (photos I've submitted and am awaiting approval)
_ISR - Photos iStock has rejected (they have a litany of reasons, some frustrating )
_ISA - iStock Accepted -- on iStock and available for sale
To "move" an image from a smart album to another, I click on the new keyword in my keywords panel, and then shift-click the old keyword which removes it from the image. Takes about a second.
I also have codes like this for other stock services -- to ensure I don't submit the same image to multiple services and violate any exclusivity agreements I may have for specific images.
There may be better ways, but using smart albums is very flexible and an easy way to not have to manually do anything other than click a button.

  • Images in Multiple Projects

I want to use some images in more than one project. If I put them in the first project along with all my other images, they can all be seen from the project folder. If I then put them in another project, I can put them in a folder, but not in the project file itself. In order to do that, Aperture says it will move the masters to the new project. This then prevents me from seeing them in the first project file. In both projects, I want to be able to see all the files that are in each project directly.
I hope this makes sense. I will appreciate any help in making this work.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

Thanks for answering my question. It seems intuitive that you should be able to have images in multiple projects so that you can open the project and see all the images you are working with. If that is not possible in Aperture, I'm sure I can just work with albums.
The functional ability I really want is to be able to have smart albums in each project that pull their content from all the other albums that are in the project. I realize now that I can accomplish this by using albums rather than projects.

  • Pop up in manual orders but not in EDI

    Hi Friends,
    Please help me.
I have  anice issue. When the user try to create a sales order he is getting a pop up or a warrning message saying that the line item has to be a delivery quanity of 20 40 60,when 1 box + 20 pices ,viz. This pop up is only displaying when creating manual orders but when an order comes and saves through EDI and when the user opens it thorugh va02 this pop up is not displaying , therefore if the order is 35 for a material it is just saving with 35 instead of 20 or 40.
This is making the user to waste his time at the time of delivery , in ware house. So the user is asking the same functionality appeared in EDI which is currently in Manual orders.
The system gives the pop up after checking Material Master, Sales org, Delivery unit feild.
Hope evey one understands this or come back to me. Please help me wether any standard functionalty is there or we have to add a besopk for this.

  • PSE7 ~ I'm inserting a .jpg image into a project, need to resize smaller and it ends up blurry!

    Please help!
I am creating a birthday invitation for my daughter using PSE7.  I found a few .jpeg images on the web that I want to use.  The images should be okay size-wise (a 66kb image) when I try to insert this image onto the invitation (size of the invite is 5x7) - image takes up maybe 1/6th of overall invitation.  When I insert this image into the project, it is HUGE.  I need to resize it to reduce, but when I do for some reason it becomes very blurry.  I can't figure this out!  At the very least a 66kb image should be able to be inserted onto this 5x7 invitation as a 1" square and be crisp at that size??  Ugghh!
I hope I am being clear in my request...the image in question is pictured below.  When this image is inserted into my PSE project, it would be about 2" high on a 5"x7" invitation...
Also, when I save the whole invitation as a jpg for printing, it's only 120kb file size...shouldn't it be much larger?  Am I missing a global setting somewhere that's messing everything up??  Many thanks in advance to anybody offering suggestions...

You're thinking in the wrong terms. You need to be focusing more on ppi (pixels per inch) rather than the file size in KB. Start by  making sure your main image is at 300 ppi (you may have to start over from scratch). If the graphics are now way too small when you bring them in, remove them and try a lower resolution, but you don't want to go below about 220 usually (it depends on your printer how low you can go and get away with it).
Go to Image>Resize>Image size to check your invite's ppi, but my guess is that you started at something like 72 ppi. If you did, I'd start over, unless you have enough pixels that when you change the ppi to 300 (with Resample Image turned OFF) it's still large enough.

  • Still images into a project

    Hello.
I am working on an SD NTSC-Anamorphic project and want to bring some still images into the project. The images were shot with a Canon 350D (Rebel XT) in Raw format and currently are in TIFF format as converted by Aperture. When I import the images I am finding a noticable degredation in quality when comparing the images in "Preview" to the Viewer to the Canvas. Once the images are in the timeline and I look at them on the canvas they look alot fuzzier.
Should I be using a different file format? Is there a setting I've overlooked somewhere?
Thanks for any and all suggestions...

    Hi,
I have read the comments above and all are valid but they do not look to me to answer your core question.
I had been asking the same question on forums for a long time and had similar responses and finally fixed the issue by purchasing a Photoshop book called WOW.
One of the earlier comments really hits the nail on the head but does not seem to offer the fix (I'm not trying to be critical here because all information does help).
First of all you need to reduce the size of the file for video - this is, in my experience best done in Photoshop not FCP (Photoshop WOW book comes with DVD and automatic actions to do this).
I call this the 'resize' step and put all my photos through this stage first (it does help to have an action for landscape and one for portrait to ensure that they are kept separate for the next step).
Then you need to 'rescale' the image to the size of your project in FCP (I assume that you are using widescreen as I do). To do this you need to create a blank document in widescreen format and then drop or drag your resized photo into the widescreen format and it will take on the same format as the blank widescreen document. Get rid of any layers and save the document in TIFF or JPEG it is up to you - you can keep the layers if you want to but you need to be aware of the issues of layers being imported into FCP.
I felt like I had found my fountain of youth when I sorted this out properly (the stress was definitely make me age).
Some comments suggest that the latest FCP does a better job of compressing the photos than the older versions but I wouldn't know as I use FCP 4.5HD and this may be so. However, it is commonly accepted, I believe, that formating the photo in photoshop is the better option.
It fixed all my headaches at least because I wanted the flexibility of FCP with photos just as you do.
Good luck and no intention to dislocate any noses out there, the willingness of people helping to provide assistance out there is fantastic.

  • How do I view multiple images from different projects at the same time?

    Hello
I've been trying to find the answer in the user manual, but no luck so far.
I did find how to open 2 projects at once, but I can only see one image at a time in the viewer and I have to keep going back and forth between projects to compare images. (These are scans of old photos and I want to eliminate the ones that are poorer quality, so need to compare numerous images from 2 sets of scans)
How can I view an image from one project at the same time as an image from another? I know that it can be done in the same project by apple-clicking the second, third etc image, but this doesn't work if the images are from different projects.
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

    Thank you again Tony
I've now created an album, independent of the projects, and dragged test images into it and it does just the job I needed. Now i just need to keep my brain sorted with which ones are which while i'm working

  • Cryptsetup: do I need to manually losetup an image?

I'm new to dm-crypt and trying to create/use a encrypted image file. I followed the wiki page of dm-crypt and everything works.
But in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … oop_device , an image file is first setup as a loop device using losetup. And accidentally, I find out that cryptsetup seems to be able to handle the image file directly, i.e. it's ok to do "cryptsetup open crypt.img secret". So why the wiki page instructs us to manually losetup the image before running cryptsetup? Is there any benefit of doing so? Or will letting cryptsetup handling image file as device dangerous?
    Thank you!

    This is how it works.
First, you start with an image file at a path like "/home/ink/crypt.img".
Second,a loop device is attached to the file and you end up with an address like "/dev/loop0".
Third, cryptseup creates an encryption mapper in "/dev/mapper" with an address like "/dev/mapper/crypt.img"
Fourth, the file system in the encryption mapper at "/dev/mapper/luks.img" is mounted and the volume is accessed.
When done, all above steps are taken in reverse order.
First, the file system on the encryption mapper is unmounted.
    Second,the encryption mapper is closed.
    Third,the loop device is detached.
Fourth, you end up where you started, with a locked volume.
To check if the volume is locked, the place to  look for it is in "/dev/mapper".If its encryption mapper is not there, then the volume is not open.
Its not possible to have an unlocked volume that is not baked by a loop device so if the loop device is gone, then then volume is probably also
locked so you should be safe.
I do not use GNOME so i cant test for you but if the encryption mapper is gone and the loop device is also gone when you unmount the volume, then
your volume is probably safe as somebody else auto does all the mentioned reversed steps for you.
