Save metadata for specific folder

I want to know if the metadata for each FOLDER I add can be stored separate from all the metadata file, so I could delete just a folder for later recuperate it individually and have it´s metadata???
Thanks for all your help

Metadata is not associated with folders.
Metadata is associated with photos. All metadata in Lightroom is stored in the Lightroom catalog (and there is no option to turn this off). Optionally, SOME (but not all) metadata can be stored in the photo itself (or in sidecar file in the case of RAW photos)
so I could delete just a folder for later recuperate it individually and have it´s metadata???
If you are planning to remove photos from Lightroom and then return them to Lightroom at some later point, then I would advise you to abandon this plan. Just leave the photos in Lightroom. Why? Because as I said, you could optionally store SOME (but not all) metadata with the photos, and so it is possible that some of the metadata is lost in this process (specifically, collections, edit history, pick flags, virtual copies, stacks and a few other things would be lost in this process). I also would advise you not to remove photos from Lightroom and restore them at a later time because it is more work than just leaving the photos in Lightroom, and prone to human errors.

I have scanned a document, how do I save to a specific folder on an external drive from the Preview application?

There is no 'Save as' in Lion.  If it's a new document then select File -> Save will bring up a standard 'Save' dialog box which will allow you to specify the location.  Otherwise select File -> Duplicate and then save the duplicate.

  • How to save in a specific folder if i'm no more able to see the subdirectories?

suddenly today I discovered that I'm no more able to choose a specific document when I have to attach it to an e-mail and at the same time I'm no more able to make a  save as in a specific folder. I'm able only to see the main directories like desktop, home, documents on the left side but when I'm trying to go into the sud directories of each folder I'm not able to do this and even if I click for instance on the folder document I do not see any document. The strange thing is that if I want to open a specific document I'm able to navigate anywhere! Is there someone able to help me?

Yes, I'm seeing exactly the same of your above screenshot but when I click on the right arrow I see only the main folders on the left (preferred folders, home etc. but without any specific file in those folders and even clicking on those ones I'm not able to navigate through them i.e. to expand them)
yes it is happening in Safari too (see below screenshot) while for instance is not happening with Aperture

I have JFileChooser code, which I have been using in past many times. However in current application I am using different enviroment (where I have more network drives), it cannot access specific folder (this folder is not on local hard disk).
It does not refresh view after I click on specific folder and it slows down. However if I click back arrow, it will return regularly and I am able to open neighbor folders without any problem.
    All ideas are welcome...

The exclamation mark will cause command history expansion.
You need to use single quotes: e.g.: echo 'testuser:R0na!do8'|chpasswd

  • Firefox is not prompting to save password for specific user on specific site. How can I correct this?

I am using saved passwords feature. The site in question is a common webmail site. I have more than one account for this site. Usernames and passwords for each account were stored in Firefox 'Remember Passwords' feature. I unintentionally deleted one entry from the dropdown list that is displayed when I go to the site's login page. Now, when I log in to this account, Firefox will not prompt to save the password. If I display my saved passwords list, there are entries for the other accounts on this site, but none for the user account in question. The Saved Passwords 'Exceptions' list is empty. How can I get Firefox to re-prompt to save the password for this user on this site? (Note: When I speak of 'user', I am not referring to user account on the PC or a specific Firefox user profile.)

I am using Avast free version. Today I removed the LAN cable out of the 24 port switching hub and plugged directly into the router port. Now the program runs fast when checking for emails. Looks like all the emails are showing up. I do have other computers plugged into the switching hub with no problems. The hub is brand new. My thinking is the cable connector might be to blame. I will try re-crimping the wires. As for now, things are running good. I will keep investigating. Thanks

  • Bridge won't save metadata for .mov files

    Hi.
I could be trying to do something that Bridge can't do (though I have read that it should). I am trying to add metadata to .mov files. Bridge allows me to enter the text both under 'File info' and in the Metadada IPTC Core fields, however when I 'apply' or click OK they don't save.
Well, in the IPTC Core when I click 'apply' they are there until I select another file then go back and they aren't.
I am using Bridge CS5 on a PC with XP.
    Thanks

Thanks Curt Y. Under 'run as' there was two options both of which were noted as administrator - though I could only use one as we don't have the password for the other. I'm not using an external drive.
The strange thing is that there is no problem applying the metadata to images, just mov files.

  • How to save metadata in .xmp also for .jpgs?

In LR 2.5, I have selected "save the metadata in .xmp files" in the Catalog Settings, and I have NOT selected "include develop settings inside jpeg, tiff, ...  I notice however that the metadata is saved in .xmp files only for photos in RAW format (which for me is .ORF, the Olympus RAW format).
In jpegs, the metadata seems to be saved in the jpeg.  This is not ideal in my situation, because when I back up photos using rsync (or the time machine), all jpegs where I have modified metadata will be backed up again, causing a lot of data to be backed up, when a tiny .xmp would in fact be enough.  Is there a way to ensure that the jpegs per se are not touched, and all information is stored in sidecar .xmp files?
Second question: if I select "store all metadata in xmp", when is this stored?  Whenever I make a change?  Or do I have to explicitly select the command "save metadata" for a folder?
    Many thanks! Luca.

A reason RAWs are the only ones with XMP sidecars and JPGs don't, besides the fact it is easy to save metadata in JPGs compared to RAWs, is that when a camera shoots RAW + JPG both files have the same name except for the extension and so when an XMP with the same name except for the extension exists, it wouldn't be clear whether its metadata was for the RAW or for the JPG.
I am on a PC, so am not sure how TimeMachine works, but a well-done backup stores file differences, not the entire file, for each cycle, and also uses block-checksums to see what parts of the files have changed, so it doesn't need to read the entire backup file, nor store entire files as part of the backup process.
There is a Save Metadata to Files command and there is a Automatically Save Metadata... preference.  Either one writes things out to the XMP for RAWs or the image files themselves for formats that support this.  I usually have Automatically Save Metadata... enabled but I also explicitly write it out to the files before doing things like purging files off my main work drive and moving them off to a backup device because LR seems to do the Automatic Save Metadata... operation in the background and it's never clear when it is finished.

  • Why can't I save for web in a specific folder using actions?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save in a specific folder desitnations when using Actions and Saving For Web with CS6 PS for Windows. It ALWAYS defaults to last folder used. I am not Batch Processing, just using Actions on one image at a time. I have 3 of these actions. Action one is for "Thumbnail" folder, Action two is for "Full" folder, and Action three is for "Large" folder. All these actions are doing is saving for web into these folders (path displays correctly in Action script). HOWEVER after I successfully  use Action one and save into the Thumbnail folder and move on to Action 2, it wants to save back into Thumbnail AND NOT into Full folder. In short I now have 3 actions saving to the same folder even though my recording designated 3 different locations. HELP!

Ok...I switched to my home Mac and was having similar issues with the toggle Save for Web window on. Saving to same folder even in Mac OS. Tried your way by keeping toggle off and it worked, saving diff images to different folders. I guess I have to figure a work around for the naming conventions however. My original is a 5 digit number lets say 11111.jpg. When I duplicate / use a sizing action I get two additional photos named 11111 copy.jpg.  That is why I kept toggle window on in CS3 so I could simply paste the 11111 name back in the dialogue window so I'd have three diff size photos in three diff folders named 11111.jpg.
These steps might seem super basic but I do these steps for a website all day everyday three months straight without issue and I guess I have to adjust. I usually use orignal photos and have to rename.  Is there a way to Duplicate images as the same 11111.jpg instead of 11111 copy.jpg? That way I can just rename the photo at the beginning (red_flower_000ddafjdflj to 11111.jpg) and not use toggle (or rename at all).

  • Selecting images for "Save metadata to file"

To improve performance we're being "encouraged" to turn off "Automatically write changes". Which means I now have many images scattered throughout the catalog that have metadata changes of some sort on a regular basis. I agree that with the automatic write turned on, LR's performance is horrendous for any kind of metadata change, but turning it off means having to regularly and frequently manually save changes.
Is there some mechanism that can be used to select ONLY those images that NEED to have the file updated rather than displaying all 36,000 images and starting the "Save metadata to file" and rendering LR unusable for hours? There HAS to be a better way than this blind, sledgehammer approach.

    >Is there some mechanism that can be used to select ONLY those images that NEED to have the file updated rather than displaying all... There HAS to be a better way than this blind, sledgehammer approach.
Lightroom will only update those images that need to be updated. In other words, only those images were the metadata change date stored in the catalog is newer than the metadata change date stored in the file. The same criteria applies to the auto write to XMP feature. Furthermore, selecting a folder and choosing
Save Metadata from the folder context menu is
much faster than selecting the files and choosing the
Save Metadata to File command found under the Metadata menu.
It's also worth noting that any time you select multiple files Lightroom will spend time "accumulating" existing metadata. IMO, this is one of Lr's most painful and unnecessary performance drags. The more files you select the longer Lr will take to accumulate the metadata. So, you really should avoid selecting large numbers of files. If you can't avoid making such a selection then it's best that you deselect them immediately after issuing the Save/Read metadata command. Doing so will save yourself a
    lot of time.

  • Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? and...

    1. Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? in other words, all Lr settings, ratings, Picks, keywords, etc?
    and
    2. does Lr automatically read the metadata from those XMP files when the images are imported into a different catalog?

Does Save Metadata to file save EVERYTHING? in other words, all Lr settings, ratings, Picks, keywords, etc?
Everything, with the exception of flags, color labels, collection membership, and stacking.
Does Lr automatically read the metadata from those XMP files when the images are imported into a different catalog?
Yes. Note that XMP files are created for raw files only; for other image formats (JPEG, TIFF, PNG, DNG), the metadata is stored within the file itself. Unfortunately, LR doesn't save metadata for videos (either in XMP sidecars or the video file).

  • How to save metadatas in RAW files (and not in external .XMP sidecar file)

    Hello,
I would like to save metadatas (for example keywords) inside the RAW files, and not in external .XMP sidecar file.
How to do this in Lightroom ?
    Thanks
    Josh
PS: is XMP a file format (= .XMP files) or a metadata format that can be embedded either in a .XMP sidecar file or in the RAW itself ?

    MarvinFoster wrote:
It's a horridly named catalog setting since if you are using DNG you don't have XMP files but it does the same thing, it updates the dng with the catalog settings.
XMP does not mean XMP FILES per se.
XMP is a metadata format/standard. so it´s not horrible named but simply missunderstood.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Metadata_Platform
XMP can be used in several file formats such as PDF, JPEG, JPEG 2000, JPEG XR, GIF, PNG, HTML, TIFF, Adobe Illustrator, PSD, MP3, MP4, Audio Video Interleave, WAV, RF64, Audio Interchange File Format, PostScript, Encapsulated PostScript, and proposed for DjVu. In a typical edited JPEG file, XMP information is typically included alongside Exif and IPTC Information Interchange Model data.

  • Move specific folder of all the mailbox to Archive

    Hi,
I am doing IMAP migration for an organisation from Google Apps to Office 365(Enterprise E3 plan). After the completion of migration, I could see "All Mails" label/folder in the Office 365 mailbox. "All Mails" folder has duplicate mails
of Inbox, Sent items & Archived mails. It's very difficult to delete duplicated mails in thousand of mails in "All Mails" folder. As a result I want archive the "All Mails" folder of all the mailbox in Office 365.
I have enabled Archive for all the mailbox but in result the default retention policy has been applied and the older mails have been moved archive.
    Kindly let me know,
    1. How could I restore the archived mails to the previous folders of all the mailbox as an admin?
    2. How could I enable Archive retention policy for specific folder of all the mailbox as an admin? or How could I move "All Mails" folder of all mailbox to Online archive as an admin?
    Awaiting for proper response..
    Thanks in Advance...

    Ah, exactly my question.
I used IconComposer in the Developer tools to create a custom folder icon but now i can't find any way to get it onto the folder.
Folder icons are simply a file within the folder which has the name 'Icon ' and is set to be invisible. The final character in the filename is a 'Return' +(ASCII 13)+ and i can't find a way to get it into a filename.
For Tiger i had a contextual menu which would copy an icon from one file/folder to another, but it doesn't handle the new huge Leopard icons properly.

  • Assign specific metadata for folder structures in the Content Server

Assign specific metadata for folder structures in the Content Server
    Hi to all,
I working with Oracle Content Server 10g and Desktop Integration Suite and I will like to know how can I restrict or enable some specific metadatas from the default metadata, for differents content folder. This is different from the function: Information Field Inherit Configuration.
    tnks!

I am a bit unclear about your question:
    - do you ask about metadata assigned to folders, or
    - do you ask about metadata assigned to items in folders?
Starting from #2, if you forget about folders, there is standard functionality that you can use to restrict, enable, ... metadata for an item. Read this chapter: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/doc.1111/e10978/c04_metadata.htm#sthref288 to get full details.
I am not sure whether you can use anything of this functionality (profiles, option lists, etc.) when you check in a new folder. I doubt it, though. The logic of folders is slightly different - whilst e.g. profiles correspond to "content item", you don't find such a correspondence in folder's hierarchy (why a folder could not contain various content types, for instance?)
Last question is, from where you want to use this functionality - even for items. In 10g, Desktop Integration Suite's functionality was rather limited (often it was supposed that a user will just 'throw' an item to a folder, and metadata will be inherited from folders). You might have to upgrade your DIS to 11g; it should work even with 10g Content Server, but make sure you verify it before mass upgrade. In 11g, DIS should offer profiles, etc. with full capabilities.

This can be done with JavaScript, but only with the help of code you place in a folder-level JavaScript, since the SaveAs document method can only be run from a privileged context. More information is in the Acrobat JavaScript reference.
For some sample code, see example 1 here: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.168.html
