Save movie frame as jpg?

Is there a way, and if so how do you do it, to save a movie frame as a JPG?  I have Lion OS and the most up to date versions of iLife software.
Thanks

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip from the Finder into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

I used to be able to save still frames as .jpg files and put them in iphoto with the previous version of iMovie but can't seem to do that with the new version, or am I missing something?

  • How do I save a movie frame as a still picture?

I like to pause my HD movies and use grab to save a frame as a photo but this new version of quicktime puts a control bar inside the movie frame so my grabs include the control bar. It goes away when running a movie but comes back when in pause and you are trying to use grab. The old quicktime did not have this issue.
If not, is there an alternative way to save a frame?
    Thanks

If not, is there an alternative way to save a frame?
Or, if you have MPEG Streamclip (free) installed and want some additional/limiterd editing options, simply open the movie in it, move playhead to the desired frame, and select the "Export Frame" File menu option to access additional options as depicted below:

  • How do I save a frame as a .jpg like in iMovie?

I'm fairly new to Final Cut, but have used iMovie for a long time and I can't figure out how to save a frame as a .jpg like I would in iMovie. Thanks!

Good suggestion Skip. I did another one that showed interlacing artifacts and a futher one with the Deinterlace filter in FCE operative. Here they are:-

  • Can I copy one frame of a movie using iMove and save the frame as a file that can be printed like a picture?

Can I copy one frame of a movie using iMovie and save the frame as a file that can be printed like a picture?  If so, how do I do that?

You could if you want a postcard sized print.
Printers need a lot more "dots" per inch and even a 1920X1080 video doesn't have enough "dots" to make more than a postcard.
Look at the "More Like This" links at the right side of this page for instructions.

  • Simple frame-to-jpg capture

    Hi,
I'm looking for the simplest way to make JPG's from paused Quicktime movies. I have QT X, which doesn't do it, and which puts the control bezel in the way of screen capture programs. I also have QT 7 (not Pro), which allows me to copy one frame and then open it in Preview (subsequent copies show as a mis-interlaced smear). I'm using Skitch (a good screen-grabbing program), but there are too many steps (and I don't know that the screen grab is as good as an export). I would like to pause a movie, hit "Save this frame as high-quality JPG", and then move on.
    Thanks.

QuickTime Player Pro ($30) can export a frame (or all of them from a selection) to image formats.
Image files from video will be "low quality" (can't print them except at postage stamp size) so we have to ask why you want them in the first place?

  • Save Current Frame produces blurry stills, but didn't before

10.10.1 - final cut pro 10.1.2 - File > Share > "Save Current Frame" produces blurry stills now, jpg and psd. the source is not blurry (as i look at the frames in the Project window). i've done this for years on FCP and got acceptable results. any tips if i accidentally changed some preference. my source are imported old MiniDV tapes stored in default FCP library.
    thanks for any info!

this NEVER would have been solved if TW didn't solve it LOL! THANK YOU! in 1999 i was a windoz user and i wanted to make some movies. windoz required me buying special "media disks", special software, extra powerful mother board... and a friend in the media business said, "get the new imac dv with imovie 1". for the next 5 years i made incredible movies using the sony mini dv tapes and mac. people thought i was a professional but the simplicity of the imac dv was the genius (and it's creators). i started using fcp a few years back always made frame stills, i've never had a problem and never heard of "interlacing"  until tom's post above. i don't think i just set this as a default? and i don't know why anyone would want interlacing if it makes your still frames/movies blurry LOL! i can read up on it later.
here is a youtube showing how to turn it off. THANKS again Tom!!!!

below is a successful frame capture after changing to the Project Properties to 720p (and not 720i = interlace which seem to be the new default?)

  • Movie frame in Indesign

I want to delete movie frame from Indesign using Indesign Javascript. It is giving problem in exporting the jpg files so i want to delete the movie frames.
Can anyone help me on this please....

If you're using Director MX2004 or 11 then _movie.frame should work fine - it always does for me anyway. the frame is the verbose syntax equivalent.
Do you generally use Lingo's dot-syntax or its verbose syntax? If the latter then I'm wondering whether the problem is occurring because the dot-syntax _movie.frame is causing an ambiguity within your verbose-syntax code.
Also, the problem may be that you're using the put command - this outputs a value to the message window, but doesn't make that value available to the rest of your handler or script.
The following should work just fine from a behaviour, then:
    on printFrame me
         printFrom(_movie.frame, _movie.frame)
    end
(look-up printFrom() in the scripting dictionary to find out more about it)

  • How do i save a frame to a image file?

im trying to save a frame from Final Cut Pro 5 to my hard disk to save and edit with an editor such as Photoshop. how do i save it. what menu options do i use?

The first thing you should do is check out the manual. This is a very, very basic export procedure; File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. Then choose still image from the format menu and your file type (JPG, TIF, PSD, etc) from the Option Menu.

  • How do I export a .MOV frame as a PNG?

How do I export a .MOV frame as a PNG? Currently, I can only seem to export as a .PCT through "Export Movie to Picture", even when I select "Use: PNG".
Currently, the workaround I use is to export using "Export Movie to BMP", and then converting to PNG with an image editor (but this would be unnecessary if QuickTime is capable of a direct conversion to PNG).

It doesn't seem to be a simple as simply changing the extension.
I ran into this problem when trying to masquerade a QT pct file as a png file as a preview for a flash video. When embedded in the flash player, it would not appear in any browser. (BTW --- It appeared just fine as a plain img in any browser.)
Here was my rather specific fix, which shows that simply changing extensions doesn't always fool every application:
    1. Open the png file in a text editor (in my case, emacs) which will let you edit binaries as ASCII text.
    2. Look through the file. Assuming that non-ASCII characters are shown in octal with a preceding \, you'll see the following
    \377\377\211PNG
    3. Delete everything until just after the two \377 characters, so that the file starts with \211PNG. (If you are editing in hex, look for ff ff 89 50, and delete up through the ff ff.)
    4. Save the file.
After doing this, it embedded just fine.
So.... simply swapping the pct extension for png isn't a true fix in all ways. I'm guessing that pulling off the start of the file tears off the wrapper alluded to above.

  • Exporting Frames as JPGs?

.. or did i miss the point of your question?
.. just if the OP happened to post in the wrong section of this board.. and is using iM08.. there, indeed, is no 'save freeze', but the official workaround is:
    place playhead at wanted position
    ctrl-click 'Add Still to Project'
select new clip in Project window..
    ctrl-click 'Reveal in Finder'..
tadaah.. there it is, COPY jpeg to other location..
you see, Sue, I'm still alive and busy..

  • Can I convert a DVD video to Quicktime, and edit the frames in .jpg files?

I received a DVD of my wedding. It plays well as a movie on my Windows laptop, running Windows 8.1.
I would like to remove differents frames, as .jpg files, to send people.
Can this be done by converting the DVD movie into Quicktime, removing the desired frames, and saving as .jpg files?

Unfortunately, one can not create a screen dump of a frame from a program like Windows' Snipping Tool. Rather, the frame appear blank (black).
Is there any program that can create an editable image file, like most screen dumps, from a movie frame?
    Yes: iMovie
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

    Hi Clarkett99,
To use an external hard drive for your iTunes library, see the steps in this article -
