Save only the artboard

I have large text that extends out past the artboart boundaries. why in gods name anyone would want to include this when they save is beyond me, kind of defeats the purpose of the artboard. also, there is no easily identifiable way to exclude the work outside the artboard when exporting (jpeg). i tried to just find a selection tool (rectangle) like in photoshop so i could select the artboard and then maybe select the inverse and cut. but thats a no-go. so, how do i do it?

The area outside the Artboard is part of the Work Area and may contain artwork that needs to be kept.
Depending on the version, you may do different things to limit what is Exported.
In the newest version(s), I believe the Artboard is used to crop for export.
In older versions, you may create a rectangle where you want the image borders and Object>Crop Area (or Crop Marks)>Make.

Is it possible to save only the ARTBoard Area into a new AI document by using JSX.
for example in the above image I want only the yellow marked drawing ,that is inside the artboard area, to be save in the new document [AI file] by using JSX.

What you see in the document is what you will see when you save it.
I recommend saving as a psd then if you really want to you can merge the layer or flatten (merge will leave the background transparent whereas flatten will give you a white backgound if there are any transparent areas in the document)
(ctrl-e or ctrl-shift-e {windows} cmd-e or cmd-shift-e {Mac})
Or you can leave the layers alone and create a composite (A new merge layer on top of the other layers)
(ctrl-shift-alt-e {windows} cmd-shift-opt-e {mac})
That said not all formats support layers or transparency. An example of that is jpg when you save with that format you will get a single flattened layer that will have a white background anyplace there was transparency.
To recap:
1)Always work on a duplicate file when doing destructive work so you can return later and undo what you did.
2)When ever possible use non-destructive edits such as a composite layer.
3)If you require layers or transparency it is required that you use a format that supports them like tiff or psd
4)Use jpg as a file for sharing and never as the master file. Because the format is destructive and throws out data each time you open and save it.

Save only active artboard as PDF

Hi all,
I have a CS4 .ai file with about 90 artboards. I would like to be able to save only the current artboard and related layers and artwork as a uniquely named PDF. So far I have only been able to save a PDF with all artboards enumerated as different files, save the current artboard as an .eps but neither fit my need. It would be great if I could get some help on the appropriate applescript to perform this task as well.

I do understand that when you do a 'Save as' and select PDF that it auto-checks and disables the 'Use Artboards' box and then allows you to save all or a range of artboards. However, since I am trying to build this into a script I was hoping for a way to save just the active artboard without having to know the artboard number. In contrast is there a way that I can do the following in a applescript:
- fetch the number of the current artboard
- save as pdf with a range of 'insert that number here'

Save only the bounding box region of image as png?

Hi,
I'd like to save each layer's item as png.
If possible, i'd like save only the bounding box of image(of an item), and the corresponding bounding box's origin/size info(relative to artboard's origin) somewhere as text file.
To do this,
I need to be able to get a bounding box of an item.
and possibly artboard's origin. (because I'm not sure where a bounding box's coordinate's origin is).

If I understand you correctly you have one table with a bunch of yes/no values (SA, SC, SS, etc.). Then for each record in that table you want to output a string listing all the fields from the first table which = yes (i.e are checked). Perhaps

I am about to do a clean reinstall of Firefox. I want to save ONLY the Bookmarks and Extensions and NOTHING ELSE from the Firefox Profile. How can I do this please?

TimeMachine to save ONLY the current version of Apps? Not the older ones...

I update my apps a lot, or I modify them (XSlimmer, Trimmit, Monolingual, etc...)...
Therefore, I have TimeMachine that saves me all the old (and heavy) versions of all my apps.
Ho can I get TimeMachine to save only the current (last) version of the apps stored on my internal HD?

I ment, I have the lastest versions of my apps on my internal HD, but TimeMachine (on an external HD, obviously) saves ALL the versions of them (the older and bulkier ones too, which take space for nothing)...
I'd like to know if I can tell TimeMachine to save only the latest versions of the apps (and not the older ones...)

How do I save only the VISIBLE objects in AI to Pdf or jpeg.

I have multiple layers but only want to save the currently visible elements objects out in a PDF or JPEG,
how do I do this without having to tediously double click each layer and choose "do not print" (layer).
would be nice to have a preference in prefs to "not print hidden layers".

You can choose to have your non-visable Illustrator layers preserved but invisible in your PDF, or removed completely. To remove them, select Acrobat 5 compatibility or earlier, or deselect the preserve layers option. If you include your invisible layers there is a possibility they will re-appear in some PDF viewers.

How can save only the checked values in a record as a string?

I have a question on form where the user can choose multiple checkboxes. Due to the type of form that it is there will only be one record written. I am using Access as a comprehensive form as opposed to a database in this instance.
Once industry submits this application (form) to us I upload some data to Oracle database which works fine. Now, I need to upload some of the data to a workflow software. I figured out how to do everything except the following:
In this record there are over 20 checkboxes. Each check box has a name/Record source such as SA (Surface Area), SC (Surface Contour), SS (Sleep Slope), ect. The user will select several of these checkboxes. I need to look at each chk box field. If the value
= true, write the fullname of each field to a table as a string with each field seperated with a comma. For instance,
If SA, SC and SS were checked on the form Surface Area,Surface Contour,Sleep Slope would be added to the Procedure_Value field in a table (see function ExportTable). Next I convert the table into a text file

How do I save only the bookmark folder, so I can reload Firefox

I am running XP SP3 and Mozilla 23.0.1 I want to save my Bookmarks and remove the mozilla I have now and reload a clean copy, than install the Bookmarks back. I would like the location on my hard drive. I think it is C:\Documents & Settings\Sue\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\6x4px2ey.default Let me know if this is the correct location or give me the correct location.

Display and save only the measured FRF curve for impact test

hi,
Im very new to Labview. I would like to do a simple impact test using Labview.
The frequency range of my interest is only 0-200Hz. It is mean that I could like to capture the FRF for this frequency after I excite the system.
My question is how can I capture and display the results for FRF onyl after I excite the system.
My current condition is when I start the measurement there is some reading (may be is noise) showing in my graph indicator (setting at 0-200Hz).
When Im exciting the system using hammer, the curve of FRF is appear for a while and turn again into some noise reading (similar with before excitation).
How can I let my graph indicator show and stop at the FRF curve even after excitation?

For SDHD card in a Canon XA10,
should I transfer and save the AVCHD or BDMV folders, inclusive?
Unclear if saving BDMV has all the important stuff and metadata one needs for Premiere.
Does it need the Canon folder and what is it for?
Does it need the CVINFO folder and what is it for?

Illustrator CS6 does not save PDFs to artboard

I have had this problem more than once. The first time it happened, I uninstalled AI and did a fresh install which fixed it for a short time. When I save a PDF out of AI, it does not save to the artboard constraints.
This is a screen shot of my AI document which has 2 pages.
When I save as PDF, this is what the file looks like:
(Pg 1)
(Pg 2)
After the original file has been saved (incorrectly) I can open it and save it again and it will be fine. Any ideas?

Got the same in AICS6 with the second artboard as a copy of the first as you've done.

When I try open a .pdf file my Adobe Reader 11 only allows the download / save opening the related window and don't show me both options 1) open with ... and 2) save as.... probably someone flagged the choise... always perform this way ....

What is your operating system?
Open a PDF from where? If online, in what browser?

Print to PDF only saves to the desktop

When I try to "Print to PDF" it gives be the dialogue box to tell the program where to save the file. I can pick any location I wish but when I click save; the file is not there...unless I tell it to save to the desktop. I have tried adjusting the properties but nothing I can find will allow it to save the file anywhere but the desktop. This only started happening after installing one of the latest Adobe software upgrades. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It's incredibly inconvenient to save everything to my desktop, then go move the file where it's supposed to go later.

I have just tried Print to PDF from Word 2010 (on Windows 7 with Acrobat XI), and I had no problem whatsoever to place the result into my Documents folder.
Could it be a permission problem on your target folders?
P.S. does Save as PDF have the same problem?

How can I delete ONLY the GPS coordinates from my Hi Res images WITHOUT "Save four Web" or Lightroom

I take hi res pics of rare wildlife and plants with both my Camera's and iPhone's GPS deliberately ENABLED. Use the photos and their GPS coordinates to document and plot my sightings with dates on maps. CANNOT disclose those locations to others. I do want to keep the metadata in my pics to the very end.
Use Photohop Extended CS 6 MAC. Save files as hi res TIFF or PSD and sometimes e-mail/upload my pics to the web when I'm done.
I CANNOT use "Save for Web" to delete my metadata — I don't want the jpeg's lossy compression. Need to preserve color profiles.
Don't have Lightroom.
How do use Photoshop to remove ONLY the GPS coordinates from my hi res images EXIF data??? Want to keep other EXIF data.
Surely Adobe can provide this life-saving service?

Yep, as others mentioned, just use Bridge and delete the entries there. You can select a whole batch of files and do them all at once.
